Mark gave me this book. Well written but i would say that this book deals with adhd as creative, smart people ( most are) but not the ones with lower IQ’s who may struggle her with learning disabilities. Thanks Mark.
This book is all about ADD and ADHD. If you know anyone with ADD, then I highly recommend this book. To be honest, this book had the worst grammar and proof-reading that I have ever seen in a book. That is the reason I only gave this 4 stars. The book even came with a list of known mistakes and asked that if I found any more that I emailed the author and they would send me a free T-shirt. I found several dozen more blatant misspellings and ignored many sentences or phrases with poor grammar. I do like the T-shirt they sent me.
I heard Mark Patey speak live on this topic and it was that presentation that drove me to buy his book. I concur with his assertion that ADD is not a disorder, but a gift with challenges. I like that he talks about how to magnify the gift and compensate for the challenges. This book is mainly written for educators and parents of children with ADD, but also for those with ADD.
It took me a while to finish this book because my teenage (ADHD) son took my book. He rarely reads, never non-fiction, but he finished this a few days. It was engaging and readable. There are facts, but not so many to make it hard to read. There are engaging stories and helpful chapter summaries to help those who are frequently distracted. At it's core this book is about how to live and even excel with ADHD in a straightforward and simple manner. A refreshing optimistic and upbeat change from the majority of what is out there on this subject today.
I may have liked this more if I hadn't read it out loud with my husband. I read faster alone, and so at times it just felt a bit laborious and slow. He seemed to be a bit redundant in the things he said, but I found his perspective very insightful and helpful.
