In a land where magic whispers through bloodlines and secrets stain royal halls, Adalet—known to all as Karma—has never known peace. Born the daughter of a village prostitute and burdened with her presumptuous expectations, her life begins in the shadows. When she helps her dying mother find release, Adalet is cast into another the court of her estranged father, King Elron, where she is seen as a shameful relic of his past.
There, amidst cold stares and political games, arrives Emperor Roak of Ro—a man feared for his power and respected for his cunning. Seeking to secure peace through marriage, Roak accepts Elron's proposal of one of his daughter's hand. But it isn’t beauty or titles that intrigue him—it’s the soul he sees behind Adalet’s guarded eyes.
Bound by shared gifts and haunted pasts, Karma and Roak are drawn together in a web of destiny, deception, and desire. But in a realm divided by war and ruled by secrets, love may be the most dangerous magic of all.
What a great story of found family, redemption, sacrifice. Kay did an amazing job with this story. It shows that no matter what life throws at you, if you keep pushing and fighting, good can come out of anything, as long as you believe in yourself and stay true to who you are.
Karma has been through hell her entire life, her mother a prostitute, her father a king who wanted nothing to do with her, but was forced to allow her to live in the castle when her mother takes ill and passes away. Forced into a life that she didn’t want all thanks to her mothers doing, she fights through it and get the life she never thought possible.
I absolutely love the relationship between Karma and Roak. The found family she has come to love as her own in so many characters throw this story. It’s beautiful and I loved it.
