I write sexy, page turning, romance. Whether you like alpha males that bite, or bad boys who make you shiver, i've got you covered. http://amzn.to/2soRP7H
This book was recommended by one of my best friends she was 40% in and loving it when I got the rec and since most reviewers seem to be of a similar mind I couldn't wait to start. Before I really begin I have to say that this book is in desperate need of editing to the extent where I was having to re-read parts because the wrong word or name had been used, normally grammatical errors don't really bother me that much but this interrupted the flow so be warned. Now the blurb is good so I'll skip my usual summary and just get straight on with my opinion. I enjoyed this book, I have to say that because I'm going to start on the things which annoyed me and so I need to say now that as soon as I've finished this book I'm moving onto the next one 'Nora's Choice' I don't give 5 stars often or easily so my 3.5 to 4 stars for this shows how much I liked it. So this book is about Tessa who was born with the ability to read human minds, we're told that this ability makes having a social life impossible since she can hear people that she thought were her friends lying to her face, men that she thought had feelings for her thinking about other women etc. So I can see how that would become a real problem I can't imagine being bombarded by the thoughts of others constantly. She didn’t seek out the company of others, never having friends or boyfriends, avoiding social situations at all costs. But then we're told the gift was completely at her control. To listen to others thoughts she had to extend her mind and probe into theirs; it was a blessing beyond belief that she didn’t just have their thoughts thrust upon her. So now I'm confused if she can control it then she doesn't have to live the life she does, I can see the temptation to use it would be great but as we read on we discover the control she has over it and how she has to concentrate and push for it to work which means she wouldn't do this in a normal social situation so she could have a life after all. While I liked Casstiel and his crew Tessa annoyed me a lot of the time, I know with the life she's led I tried to be sympathetic but it was difficult and at times and she came very close to TSTL.
It's nothing major I know but I had to stop and re-read that scene again but with some beta readers and editing this book could be so much better because the characters and the story are there.
It actually took me almost 24 hours after reading this to be able to sit down and focus enough to write a review. I had never heard of Alice K. Wayne until I was lucky enough to catch her hour during a book release party. I was extra super lucky to win this e-book.
Quick side note: DO NOT be fooled by this cover! It has a new much much hotter cover now!
I know that when most of us see a paranormal book now we kind of roll our eyes but this book had such an interesting concept to me. What if werewolves and vampires weren't fighting? What if they didn't hate humans? Alice did a great job of bringing some fresh air to the genre while at the same time keeping some of the most important staples: super strength, stamina (in and out of the bedroom *ahem*, super fast healing etc. And let's take a moment to talk about my personal favorite: mates. I simply love the concept of mates! Especially when its done in a none porno way. Like ok we get it your matse but lets not immediately start stripping. No one in this book doesn't exercise their own free will. Even to the point of annoying at times (I'm looking at you Nora!).
Cass and Tessa's story was beautiful. Tessa came out of her shell and it was beautiful! I loved how not only was Cass smoking hot but he truly loved Tessa. He didn't want her to change he wanted her to become the best HER she could be. Ahh the feeeeellllsss!!!
I don't wanna give away any spoilers but Quinn was by far one of the most interesting characters. I would even go as far as to qualify his story as a plot twist. I thought for sure we were heading in an obvious direction and then whoops....not so much! I'm really hoping we learn more about him in the next book....well him and someone special but again...don't wanna spoil anything!
Nora got on my nerves. I know she had a traumatic past and all but she really needed to stop talking. She was a good friend to Tessa though and I appreciated her wanting Tessa to find her happiness even if it was something Nora herself never wanted.
As far as the Hunters---just F those guys. That's all I'm gonna say.
Jax, Kain, Memphis and Sebastien were all great for some extra hot man candy and comic relief. Definitely hoping we can find some mates in their future. Next book pretty please????
Anyway, this is a MUST read if you're into the paranormal. I really can't stress that enough. But be warned you will not want to put this book down!!!
This plot draws you in from the beginning and keeps you hooked! There is a good combination of romance and suspense. The characters are well thought out and the way the author describes them makes it easy to picture what they look like throughout the book. After you finish reading it will leave you wanting more. I can't wait for the second book to come out.
This book is rated R for its sexual content and language.
This book has been a pleasure to read. It is focused around two main characters point of view. One of the characters, Tessa, is a Outcast amongst her family and friends. She carries a gift that gives her insight on those around her. Thus making her feel different. Two species in this book. One is known as the humans, the other is known as the breed. The breed would be for paranormal type beings. When one of these breeds starts to have dreams, He realizes he can't get that woman out of his mind. The story is quite well done. Thorough plot. And Tessa, is one of the characters, that have the most sass and independent personality. Then there is her best friend that is willing to do anything and everything with Tessa. When Tessa find out news on her brother, that has been missing for a long time, she takes the info and runs to the nearest embassy (where The Breed) are, and ask for their help to find her brother.
Check out the book if you haven't already. It's definitely worth the read!
Loved it. It has editing issues but the story was awesome! I am going to read the second book in this series. for All my friends, please read this book if you can take the errors because it really is a good story.
This is my first Alice Wayne story and I was in need of a PNR story, so I jumped right in with just the blurb to let me know what I was getting into. I didn't want to know anything when I was going in so I was surprised about this book, to say the least.
So it took me a bit to get into this book at first. I wasn't sure if I had missed something or not but you start to figure things out once you get into the book. Casstiel and his group of vampires and werewolves are there to protect the world from bad people. And with all the Hunters out there trying to kill the PNR's out there a big war is coming that they might not be ready for.
But while Casstiel and his group are in the middle of something they didn't see coming he meets his bonded mate Tessa who has been hiding her ability to read humans minds. But she is afraid to tell anyone about this ability for fear she will be hurt or taken by the Hunters. But with Casstiel by her side, she just might be able to handle her ability and become the mate she wants to be.
Good beginning to this new series. I have to say I also liked that this series doesn't just stick with one set of couples. We get the start of different couples falling for each other so that we can go to the next book easily. I liked that.
Great start to a series! I loved Casstiel and Tessa's story. Big, alpha male. Sweet, shy female. It was great to see Tessa open up throughout the book and become the person everyone knew she could be, except for her. Cass was a strong, badass male, and once he met Tessa, there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for her. Love it! I also enjoyed seeing Nora's story being set up. Can't wait to read it. I need more of Ghost, Jax, Kane, Memphis, and Sebastian, too!
This was a really fantastic read! I have no clue why I waited so long to read it. This was a debut novel that was written really well, and captivated me right from the start. It's an erotic paranormal romance with a very unique story line, reminiscent of Jeaniene Frost's creativity.
I thought that Castiel was very true to his character. He was alpha male to a T, yet he was also very sweet and patient (for the most part). He loved Tessa with all he had. The chemistry between these two was hot and I loved every minute of this story.
Tessa was a shy, vulnerable woman who kept mostly to herself at first; however, being around the Breed and meeting Castiel opened up a whole new world for her. She became incredibly strong and brave, bold and confident, sexy and inspired. I really enjoyed watching her character progress.
This author had very good character development, an overall well thought out story line for this series, and characters that were engaging, witty and truly fascinating. Not only do you get a good sense of who all the players are, but the set up for the next book was done flawlessly. This is an author to watch!
There were some editing issues, including a mix up with a characters name, but as this is a debut novel that was written so well, it did not affect my rating. I absolutely recommend this book and series! Go buy it now. Book 2, Nora's Choice comes out soon, and I cannot wait!
This book blew me away. The story line is so well developed that the images and characters jump off the pages. I never knew what was coming next and I loved that.
Tessa is human with powers that she keeps hidden so she can fit into the crowd. Casstiel is a vampire that eludes sexuality. When they come together their chemistry will ignite you. I loved all the extra characters as well. The escapades between Nora and Tessa aka Lucy & Ethel will crack you up.
This book will be in my top reads of 2016 without a doubt. There really is just so much depth to all scenes. I am excited to jump into Nora's story next to see how things develop between her and Quinn.
This book is absolutely a 5 star read! One click now!
After having read many different kind of books it blew my mind to read this book it is a mix of all my fav book wrapped into one. It is paranormal, vampires and werewolves. It has romance of course we're would we be without cupids arrow. Action we have to have epic fights between good and evil. And of course make sure you have the tissues cause there are moments your gonna need them. So like I said this book has everything hurry read it fast you are so missing out if you haven't yet.
Even though I liked the story so far, I was appalled by the grammatical errors. Seriously, this needs some serious beta reading and editing.
If I had a printed version, I'd sure be tempted to get the big red pen out and send a corrected version back to the author/editors. Things like "She through her shoulders back" or the way words were ripped in two when they are actually just one (un kept/umkempt, make shift/makeshift etc.) ruined the otherwise OK story for me.
I am a HUGE Paranormal fan... and this book was phenomenal. We know all the stories about Vampires and Werewolves being enemies, but what if they were friends instead and the real enemies were humans?
Vampires and Werewolves are known as the Breed.
Tessa Roberts is no ordinary human, she has the ability to read other human minds. After her brother Quinn is attacked and kidnapped by Werewolves, she goes looking for him. With her gift she is able to find out things about The Breed that she never knew existed and ends up at a Shelter for victims of The Breed. After looking for years a new clue is found and so Tessa must go to The Breed Embassy to meet the leader of the defence team Casstiel.
Casstiel is the leader of his team and a Vampire. It’s his job to look after the Breed and keep and eye on the Hunters, but his mind is always being consumed by his dream girl. When an alert for missing person Quinn is reported he must investigate where he has been, starting with his sister Tessa. But he never expected that Tessa would be the girl from his dreams. Now that he had her in front of him in the flesh there is no way he was going to let her go.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. This was Alice K Wayne’s debut book and I must say the storyline is good but it is in need of a new edit, I found that there were parts that need to be changed, like wrong names being used, words being misplaced or spelt. I am one to usually be able to understand and go on with these type of errors but i did find myself having to reread parts to understand what was going on. It was addictive, and had me on the edge of my seat. This book didn’t just follow Casstiel and Tessa it also followed secondary characters, although I did enjoy having other POV’s having a warning who’s POV we were reading would help as well, as I found that at times it took me a while to understand and adjust to who we were following.
Other than that I really enjoyed reading Casstiel and Tessa’s story and can’t wait to read Nora’s Choice and see what is next for this wonderful characters.
Cass and Tessa were good together and the story kept me interested until the end but, that being said, there were way too many gaping holes. Spoilers- Tessa has a mind reading gift but does't use it on the Hunters in the first encounter with them. In fact she doesn't use it or tell anyone until 60% of the book. During the first Hunter encounter, he mentioned that she would've run into a secret military training facilitory if they hadn't stopped her- but it's never mentioned again. She and her girlfriend, Nora keep getting into situations that really make them TSTL, and almost gets everyone killed and yet the guys just get over their anger quickly and basically just pat them on the head and give them a cute nickname- Lucy and Ethel. As far as I could tell Cass didn't use any protection with her over and over, and it's never mentioned. Again, very stupid. The healer tells her at the beginning that she'll lose her gift if she hooks up with a Breed, but it's never mentioned when Tessa has Cass finally takes her blood. And what about all the sexual dreams Cass and her brother have, that both the girls seem to have no knowledge of? There's an abrupt ending, and no epilogue! I could go on and on. I won't be reading any more of this series. Sorry- not sorry.
I found the story strong and unique. There is a unique coexistence between the werewolves, vampires and humans in this story, and they work together for a greater good. How Casstiel and Tessa find each other is mere happenstance, but when they realize they were meant for each other and need each other to fight against the Hunters, it completely changes the direction of the story. She and her friend, Nora, are as thick as thieves, and it's that relationship that brings attention to Tessa's brother, changing the tides in this war and bringing people together who might never have found each other.
The action is non-stop and wrought with danger. The love story is steamy and romantic. The characters are colorful and interesting. I loved it from beginning to end. If this is a first taste of what this author has to offer, she has a good start in her writing career. I'm looking forward to the next one.
The Breed Casstiel's Vow by Alice K. Wayne is the first book in this series. Meet Tessa Roberts, together with her parents she lives at a shelter and they're looking for her missing brother, Quinn. Quinn was captivated years ago and there's no trace of him - till the Breed - a conglomerate of werewolf and vampire warriors find him on camera. Now everything is about to change. Tessa vivts the defense departement and there she meets Casstiel. Casstiel is the squad leader, team member of the defense departement, a alpha vampire and doesn't care for humans in general. Only Tessa brings all his inner alphaness to sing. He's possessive to put it mildly. Together they go through danger, enemies and traitors to fight for law and love. Casstiel's Vow is a captivating pnr read. I read the book, cover to cover in one sitting, I simply couldn't put it down. The story is addicting and I loved the sidekicks too. Casstiel's Vow is told in a dual pov and the story continues in Nora's Choice.
That was a very well written modern take on vampires and werewolves! It was immediately apparent how well thought out the characters and plot were. I was intrigued then sucked right into nonstop action before I had time to even remember my blood type! I won't give spoilers but I will say the weres weren't the ones I wanted to leash! Talk about think before you act...yikes! Character flaws just make them all the more believable and relatable though. I'm so happy this is a series...cmere book two! Let me lic-...er read you all up!
This is the first book I've read from this author and I'm a fan. The writing is amazing and there's an intentional semi cliffhanger. The characters are relatable and there's in depth character development. I enjoyed reading about the Breed culture and society and how it functions. I thought Tessa and Nora are a bit juvenile, refusing to listen to reason, and not learning from their mistakes, which seems to always put themselves and others in danger. There's a lot of action and suspense as well as steamy romance. I kept turning the pages wanting to know what happened and why. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book.
SO, I am really glad I gave this book a shot. I have been a bit disappointed in any new paranormal series. They just have been so tired. This story isn't exactly different from a lot of them out there but it seems to combine a few ideas and come out shining on its own. THIS is why the 4 stars, although the writing maybe should have received more like 3. STILL, I really liked the story and am really hoping for a bit more in the following books.
This was ok. Nothing too spectacular. About 3/4 of the way in, I kind of lost steam, and it took a few days just to get through it to finish it. The action was picking up, the big fight was going on, and I just didn't care enough to read more.
Tessa was just annoying to me. Casstiel was a big huge alpha fighter, but we really didn't see too much of that side of him. Mostly he was a love struck I want my woman kind of guy.
This book is great. I love it. It's different and full of drama and love and action and the alpha is hot hot hot. I love the heroine as well, despite her silliness. I can't believe this book has so few reviews! I hope it becomes really popular because this author deserves to have her stories read. I can't wait to read the next book!
I had read many supernatural books over the years, but found this breed concept interesting and could see it play out that way in society. I really liked the way the connection was with the main characters. The only let down was her “gift”. I really feel the author could have played that up more and at least made her more valuable to the team.
DNF at 44%. So boring, no world building whoch just made everything confusing, no character stood out enough to make me even like the book, except maybe Ghost. Tessa and Nora are both TSTL, and Tessa has this amazing ability but hasn't even used it yet, which is such a common annoyance to me in books, specifically this ability. Castiel is only an okay character,
I haven't read anything this fresh and new for years, and I'm an avid reader. The Breed has pulled me in, and now I must cut this short so I can one-click Nora's Choice! **Runs with arms flailing**
Intriguing, suspenseful, twists and turns, keeps you guessing.
Excellent beginning of a series. I didn't even expect the ending! Read it straight through and there was always something happening. Lots of action. Picture perfect writing!
This series is new for me yet I feel like there was a connection between the ideas. The Breed also happens to be the name in Lara Adrian's books as well so I am curious as to how the ideas are kind of similar.
I downloaded The Breed: Casstiel's Vow as a free ebook from Amazon. Really interesting characters, a nicely layered plot, made this a fun read. There were a couple weak spots, but the pacing kept me glued to the storyline.
New author for me. Well written, sexy, action packed twist and turns. Casstiel and Tessa seemed a bit wishy washy at times but as story goes on Tessa comes out of her shell and Casstiel is the leader he has always been.
