The Forgotten Cottage

Rate this book
Someone vanished without a trace decades ago. Now Sunnie Cameron is living in their house.

After a difficult divorce, Sunnie is ready to leave her past behind—even if it means moving into a run-down cottage in the quiet village of Hazelwood. The house is old, the roof leaks, and the townspeople seem more curious than welcoming. Still, there’s something about Hazelwood that feels like it could be home.

But when a bookshelf collapses during renovations, revealing a hidden room that hasn’t been touched in nearly a hundred years, Sunnie finds herself drawn into the cottage’s mysterious past. Tucked inside are forgotten journals, tender love letters, and hints of a long-buried story the town would rather leave alone.

With the help of her quirky neighbor Mrs. Dalloway and Oliver, the charming bookstore owner who knows more than he lets on, Sunnie begins to piece together a puzzle that could change everything she thought she knew about her new home—and herself.

What really happened all those years ago? Why was the room sealed off? And as old secrets come to light, will Sunnie finally find the sense of belonging she’s been searching for all along?

The Forgotten Cottage by Sage Parker – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a powerful and emotional conclusion to a beautifully written story. Everything finally comes together for Sunnie, Mrs. Dalloway, and Oliver as they uncover the long-hidden truth behind the mysterious disappearance of Emma Harris and the fate of her baby, Lucy. The secrets they uncover involve more people than anyone could have imagined and shine a light on the town’s dark past.

Sunnie’s discovery of hidden clues—some in the most unexpected places—keeps you guessing and engaged. The layers of mystery unfold in such a compelling way that it’s hard to put the book down. The story is rich with emotional moments, and some parts are genuinely heartbreaking, especially the glimpse into Emma’s tragic life and the pain she endured.

On the personal side, I loved seeing Sunnie’s growth. When her ex tries to worm his way back into her life after being dumped, she doesn’t hesitate to stand up for herself. It’s a bold, satisfying moment that shows how far she’s come.

This novel blends small-town intrigue, historical secrets, and emotional healing in such a powerful way. If you enjoy stories about uncovering the past, finding where you truly belong, and strong character development, this is one to add to your list. A deeply satisfying ending to a moving and unforgettable journey.

Finally the end & what an ending it is! It all finally coming together. Sunnie, Mrs. Dalloway & Oliver’s finally get the results they have been trying to get for so long! They had to do a lot of research, but they got the answers they needed. The finally get all the answers about the mysterious Emma Harris’s disappearance & her baby, Lucy that supposedly died. All of this involved a lot of people & lots of secrets finally brought to light. Sunnie found lots of hints & some of them in strange places. I don’t even know how she found some of them! This was a very emotional & heartbreaking series that you really don’t want to end! The final letter that Emma wrote to Joseph was really heartbreaking. She went through so much in her short life! I can’t believe Sunnie’s ex came & wanted her to take him back after his girlfriend kick him to the curb! She sure put him in his place in short order. She definitely didn’t spare any words! I think you will really like this series & the way it all ended up. Get this series & get to reading!

I received this ARC series for free through Booksprout & am giving my review for free & in my own words

Sunnie is still searching for answers to the secrets in her house. She found a death certificate that didn't make any sense. Oliver had a friend in the publishing business that without Sunnie's permission sent a few chapters of her manuscript of her book that got into a box by mistake that Oliver had taken home from Sunnie's. His friend loved what he read and asked for the rest of the manuscript and decided to publish Sunnie's book. She was delighted but the question of the death certificate was still on her mind. Oliver came to her house after closing the book shop and explained everything. He is a great great grandchild and didn't want the town to know as it would cause problems for him. He and Sunnie write a book about the history of the town and at Founder's Day they announce that he is a relative of the owners of the town and he gets down on one knee and asks Sunnie to be his wife and she accepts of course!.

Sunnie finds a death certificate that doesn't make sense. After doing research she learns that Oliver is a Hazel family member. He didn't want to tell anyone and have people treat him differently. Oliver reads Sunnie's book and loves it. He shows it to a literary friend, and they want to buy her book for a lot of money. Sunnie's ex comes to ask her to give them another try. His girlfriend kicked him out and he doesn't have the money to pay out the divorce. Sunnie stands up for herself and kicks him out. They work together and learn so much about Emma's life after she left. She wrote letters to Joseph begging him to let her see the children. He never allowed it, and Emma couldn't live with the sorrow. Sunnie and Oliver write a book together about the story and reveal it to the town at a celebration. At the end, Oliver proposes, and she says yes! I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

We finish up book six and the series understanding where the people from the house, from the town and who are now a new part of the town are in their lives or deaths. We find that some we thought had lived actually died and some had relatives that we did not know were related. Oliver confesses to Sunnie that one of the characters she has been working on is actually his relative. She understands and their relationship progresses.
Sunnie and Oliver decide to write a book together about the town and all that they have found out and it goes to the number one list. Now Sunnie is writing more stories that are being published and she is where she always knew she should be.
I read the epilogue but must say I was not overwhelmed by it as much as I usually am with Sage's books. It kinda fell flat but did tie up some more loose ends. Anyway, as in the stories I love "THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER".

What a wonderful cozy mystery. I did not expect to learn of Oliver's familial connections to the Hazel family. That bit of information took me by surprise but makes a whole lot of sense. Finding out what truly happened to Emma broke my heart and I could feel the emotions going through Sunnie, Oliver, and Mrs. Dalloway when Sunnie read Emma's final letter to Joseph through the pages. Sunnie made me cheer when she finally put her ex-husband in place and sent him packing. Mrs. Dalloway's character gave me the warm and fuzzies as a grandma should. Sunnie becoming friends with Mrs. Dalloway was a blessing for both. The ending was so sweet and tied up the storyline in a nice big red bow! Sage Parker's books are truly wonderful to read, and she never disappoints!.

This book was a cozy mystery filled with lots of unanswered questions. The answers were found and by the end I was able to close the book and be left with complete satisfaction at how the series ended.

The final book in this series was all that I expected and so much more. Sunnie finally has all her answers and her and Mrs Dalloway did all their research with some help from Oliver finally uncovered the truth about Emma Hazel and her family and it was great discovery to learn the connections between the characters. Sad to say goodbye to this series as it really captured my imagination but I think Sage Parker did this book justice with all the information she provided. This was an amazing ending.

Sunnie had no idea when she initially moved to Hazelwood into the cottage that the Hazel family had originally built what all would transpire in her life. The mysteries revealed took on a life of their own. The solving of these mysteries and her learning to appreciate the people in this small town caused Sunnie to really change, grow and learn to feel appreciated and loved. Great book. So thankful I had the chance to read this advance copy.

The Forgotten Cottage, Book 6 is the thrilling conclusion of the story of Sunnie, the divorcee who has come to town to start over. She is continuing to try and solve the mystery of her cottage and the disappearance of Emma.

Wow, this was an amazing conclusion. More is revealed about Emma and Lucy. There were so many people involved and twists I didn't see coming. Sunnie stands up to her ex too which was amazing. This was such a great story. I'm sad that it is over!

Forgotten Cottage - Book 6 continues the unraveling of the mystery which enveloped Hazelwood. Sunny and Oliver’s relationship becomes stronger despite James resurfacing. Showing up unannounced, James wishes to reconcile with.Sunnie who sends him away. Afterward Sunnie, Oliver, and Mrs. Dalloway resume their search of the documents found in the secret room.

This could’ve been one book, but the six part series felt as though I was on the Historical search with the Characters. An entertaining read filled with mystery, deception, friendship, and romance.

Saved the best for last. Sunnie's story included many people in the small town of Hazelwood as well as her knack for discovering historical facts. She finally solves the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the founding family's matriarch. Also we find out who Oliver really is. I highly recommend this book to all women's fiction readers.

more than one of the pieces that has been missing bubble up for Sunnie to discover them.

Heartbreak, mistakes, misjudgements and sudden joyful surprise tied with wonder and melancholy.

This is a bittersweet bundle of joys and sorrows and mysteries, and next life stages and phases - tangled and touching.

I can’t believe that this is the last book in a terrific series by Sage. There is nothing I didn’t like about reading this clean small town story except it ended. :) It’s too bad that there isn’t a real town like Hazelwood that is picture perfect. This book as well as the series gets 5 stars all across the board.

This series must be read in order. The mystery of what happened to the founding family will be solved as well as the questions the main character has regarding her own life. Be prepared as some of the answers are unsettling. Will they publicize what truly happened or keep it secret? How did the secret room come about and who's responsible for all of the clues?

The Forgotten Cottage

This was a truly interesting story. It is about discovering the past in Hazel wood. Sunnie had bought this cottage in HAZELWood s her new home. She found a room, that had been closed off. I side, there was a whole room of very old clothes, books, etc. Enjoy as she and others unravel this mystery.p
