One scorching look. One sinful night. One man who ruined me for anyone else.
I wasn’t looking for anything more than a night at The Players Club to forget my troubles. But then Ford Perish crashed into my life with a body made for sin and a smoldering stare that promised things no man ever dared to offer me.
When trouble at work turned into a full-blown threat, Ford became more than a temptation. He became my full-time bodyguard. My living, breathing, test of control. Living under the same roof as this infuriating man was delicious torture. He invaded my space, my mind, and my body until there was no part of me he didn’t own.
The danger closing in was real, but nothing terrified me more than the way Ford touched the places inside of me I swore no man would ever reach. He didn’t ask me to be perfect. He didn’t try to fix me. He wanted the real me—the troublemaker, the survivor, the woman who needed a man strong enough to break down her walls without breaking her spirit.
In the end, it wasn’t the threats that wrecked me—it was him. And somewhere between the danger and the desire I found the kind of love that didn’t hurt, but healed.
Playing with Trouble is a high-heat contemporary romance with bodyguard protection, forced proximity, possessive hero energy, emotional healing, and romantic suspense. Perfect for readers who love enemies to lovers, intense chemistry, protective alpha heroes, strong heroines, and love that grows hotter—and deeper—under pressure.
Violet has been raised with a life of trauma, between her father leaving and her mother choosing bad men who wouldn't stay. She's built walls around herself that no one can break down, until Ford decides he's the man for the job.
*****
This was a cute BDSM romance, with slow emotional burn, but fast spice. I usually love a book with a brat as they're full of banter, push-back, mouthy and independent leads, and general fun. Unfortunately I couldn't connect with Violet, as despite being an older lead she was immature, rude, abrasive, inappropriate, and generally surly. I was surprised that she was looking for someone who could "keep up with her" and yet that meant being victim to her moods, arrogance and snarky replies. It felt like a negative stereotype that a lot of people perpetuate with brats in the BDSM community, and not like actual brats themselves who come from a more playful source that's looking to push back to earn their trust and submission.
The male lead was decent, and the communication was well done, as well as the background suspense plot. I just struggled too much to identify with an FMC who I wouldn't enjoy in real life, that I kept me unengaged throughout. All in all it was a cute and easy read, just not something I'd yell to everyone about.

Thank you to The Author Agency for the advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Right off the bat! We are delivered a story that’s impossible to step away from, blending intensity with genuine heart. But you will quickly learn, this isn't just a story. It's an exhilarating dive into a world of passion, danger, and unexpected love.
I am obsessed that the characters are both relatable and deeply human. They are flawed, self-aware, and incredibly likable. However, digging deeper the true home run is the emotional depth Wilde brings to their relationship. Seriously, to bring such genuine and pure connection grips the readers more because it felt authentic and earned. Playing with Trouble is a journey of healing and self-discovery, wrapped in a seductive and emotionally charged narrative. If you’re searching for a story that delivers both heart and heat, this one deserves a spot at the top of your TBR.
I have to say i'm was not a huge fan of Violet. She really got on my nerves with her attitude, but by the time i was was half way through this book, it started to become more clear why she is the way she is and it was all a protective wall to keep her from get hurt.
Ford on the other hand has had my interest ever since he was introduced to us. He calm presence, but freak behind closed doors spoke to me on so many levels. The way he handled her was a thing of beauty and when she finally let herself feel and be with him, everything click in place and I was rooting hard for them to find a way to sail into the sunset.
This story was not my favorite but I still liked it. She was a handful and he was just the man for the job to keep her in check.

I received an ARC of Playing with Trouble, by Erika Wilde in return for an honest review.
⚠️Warning & Full Disclosure: I started Playing with Trouble not knowing that there were prominent scenes of BDSM activity. If you are uncomfortable or offended by open-door BDSM activity, this is not a book for you.
If however, you want some major 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ in your reads - then this series may be of interest.
PWT features independent, stubborn, ‘brat’ - Violet (FMC) who has been threatened at work, forcing 24/7 close proximity with Ford (MMC) as her bodyguard.
No strangers to each other, Violet’s sister is marrying Ford’s close friend and coworker, yet that doesn’t mean there’s any playing nicely when these two get together.
Though the attraction is 🔥 🔥, Violet’s history means her walls are high and her trust is low. Opening up to and relying on Ford is not in her DNA and she is not prepared for the ways in which her life changes with him forced into it.
Both of them fearing for Violet’s life provide twists and turns to their story, & beyond any BDSM activity - at its core Playing with Trouble is very much a heart-strings pulling romance. 💘
Playing with Trouble is book #2 in the Players Club Sinners Series.
Playing with Trouble is the second book in the Players Club Sinners series. The story finds Violet Corbin and Ford Perish fulfilling needs in each other that are at the core. It may have started with just one night of toe curling and soul searing pleasure but it will become a lot more when danger comes for Violet and Ford is the one who will protect what is his.
Playing with Trouble is the next book in the Players Club Sinners series and brings us the story of Ford and Violet😍
Violet is best known for being a bit brash and difficult but Ford knows he can tame the brat😁 When Ford is hired on to protect Violet after a threat and some near miss incidents, she’s unsure how she will keep her walls up around him with him in her space all the time. But it soon becomes clear they are more attracted to each other than first thought, and the danger itself is coming from a source closer than either suspected😳
A great story and I can’t wait for the next book in the series🙌 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️🩹
Erika Wilde has another BDSM light story that involves supporting characters from the Players Club series. The female main character is a strong Brat who enjoys submitting to the Male Main character. The story was somewhat predictable but it still flowed very well and was enjoyable to read. Spice was similar to her other books - about 2 chili peppers. If you like a mild BDSM kink, definitely worth the read.

Violet needs to let go and have some fun, so is off to club with her sister. If she can find someone to give her what she needs, surely it will be at this invite only, exclusive club. Unfortunately, (or is it fortunately?), the only man to catch her eye is Ford Perish, the guy who likes to get under her skin. Well, they can have this night for what it is - fun with no strings, then go their separate ways. Right?
Ford is going to take this chance with Violet, knowing it will never go further, though he'd like it to go much further, because he's more drawn to Violet than he's ever been to anyone. He wants to see her submit to him, knowing she needs it, but also knowing she won't let him into her heart, where he ultimately wants. And he's right because she takes off after, telling him never again. Until he's hired to protect her, then all bets are off. Now he's going to show her that not only can he protect her from whoever is after her, he can be her safe spot, the one she can give her trust (and her heart) to.
Violet grew up learning that she couldn't trust anyone but herself, so she built walls around herself and didn't let anyone in but her brother then sister. She didn't believe she could ever submit to anyone, could ever trust another with her heart. Then Ford came into her life and seemed determined to show her everything she never thought she could have - trust, submission, love. They may have started off as a ons, but with their intense chemistry and deepening connection backing him, Ford gently (and not so gently *wink*) stole his way past her walls. I love this couple - tough, defiant Violet just yearning for something she couldn't bring herself to voice, finding the perfect partner in Ford, the man who refused to let her keep running from him. The spice is delicious, the characters are lovable, and their friends and family are awesome. Can't wait for the next Players Club couple to fall in love now.

If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: “Erika Wilde has done it again!”
Playing with Trouble is the second book in her latest series, Players Club Sinners. This is a Lip Smacking (5 🍋) read with Cayenne (3.75 🌶️) level of spice.
Ten Things to Know: 🍋 Feisty, Headstrong Heroine 🍋 Dominant, Possessive Alpha Hero 🍋 S*x Club/BDSM 🍋 Enemies to Lovers 🍋 Brat Tamer 🍋 Punishment and Praise 🍋 Protector Romance 🍋 Forced Proximity 🍋 Fake Relationship 🍋 Forbidden Attraction
Violet Corbin has emotional trauma from her mother and the relationships she showed to both Violet and her half-brother, Christopher. Men seemed to be coming through a revolving door, making promises that they never intended to keep, leading to Violet developing severe trust issues.
For the longest time, she only had Christopher, until she had done a DNA ancestry test and found her two half-sisters, Madison (Playing by His Rules) and Andrea (Playing with Forever). *Note: You find out more about Violet and Andrea’s relationship in Playing with Forever. Andrea moved to Vegas to be close to Violet. There is tension between them when it comes to Violet’s brother Christopher. *
Because of her past, Violet protects herself with her strong, feisty, and prickly attitude, leading to many not being able to get close to her.
A chance to experience the Players Club is hard to come by, but when Violet gets an invitation from Andrea, she is only looking for one night of fun, no strings attached. It’s supposed to be a distraction, nothing more.
Finding Andrea’s fiancé, Chase Noble’s co-workers around the pool, Violet can’t help but bait Ford Perish, whom she met when Chase invited everyone to go indoor sky diving. Her bratty behavior from before and her goading of Ford led to him showing her exactly what he can do for a brat like her. I love that we get to experience more of what the Players Club has to offer and how Wilde shows some spicy and creative ways to approach Violet’s first visit.
The chemistry between them has been growing since they first met. Ford and Violet seem to be tailor-made for each other, even if they don’t see it. So, when a series of events leads to Violet’s boss hiring Noble and Associates to protect her, it only seems fitting that Ford becomes her bodyguard, there to protect and serve her 24/7.
Can Ford really keep his promise to keep Violet safe, or will he be like all the other men who have come into her life, unable to keep his promise?
This book shows more kink and BDSM elements; however, the spice does not take away from the plot at all. This book is a fast-paced, suspenseful read with just the right amount of wit and steamy banter.
*An advance reader copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.*
Violet Corbin is hoping a night at the Players Club will be the distraction she needs. She’s looking for a night of fun… nothing more serious. When she runs into a couple of her sister’s fiancé’s co-workers by the pool, one of them catches her eye. Ford Perish is intrigued by Violet, who he met before. She’s loud, brash and goes for what she wants. And that night, she wants Ford.
Their evening in one of the fantasy suites is nothing Violet has ever experienced before. It left her completely satisfied and opened new ideas for her to ponder. What she didn’t expect was for Ford to be so attentive once they were done. That made her uncomfortable and had her leaving the Club pretty quickly.
When a situation arises that may have been connected to something in her professional life, the casino she works for hires her a full-time bodyguard from Noble and Associates to be with her 24/7 until they can get to the bottom of it. Of course, that bodyguard turns out to be Ford. She enjoyed her evening with Ford, but that’s all it was… an evening. Violet has always been able to take care of herself and her little brother. Her father didn’t stick around, and her mother was always off chasing her next great love. It left Violet with a strong distrust for men. Which is why she decided to make Ford life difficult as possible.
But being in one another’s company all day and night, Violet’s defenses start to wear down. There’s definitely a strong connection between the two of them. Neither one can stop thinking about their night together. The brattiness turns into foreplay. Their scenes melt the words right off the pages. And when her townhouse is broken into and everything she owns is destroyed, Ford moves her into his condo.
I’m going to stop right there, since what comes next is why Violet is being targeted and who it really is about. But let’s just say that what Ford proposes to get her out of this tangled web doesn’t make Violet happy. Will she realize that what Ford’s doing is not only for the greater good but because he actually has real feelings for her? Will Violet realize that not all men are like her father and that she does deserve to be loved?
“To make her believe she was enough. Enough to be loved. Enough to be mine.”
Erika Wilde creates characters that can see the best in each other, not in rose-colored glasses, but with all their flaws hanging out for the world to see. She doesn’t want them to change, but for them to realize that they deserve love and respect for who they are. This book made me forget about the world for a while and lose myself in the story. Can’t wait for the next book in this steamy series.
Violet Corbin hasn’t had an easy road. Life has dealt her more than her fair share of pain and heartbreak, and it shows. Guarded, sharp-tongued, and dripping with sarcasm, she uses her bratty attitude as armor because letting someone in means giving them the power to hurt her. Between her emotional walls and the responsibility of caring for her younger brother, love is the last thing on her mind. Enter Ford Perish, ex-military, now a bodyguard, and the walking definition of calm, control, and quiet dominance. He and Violet move in the same circles, and while she pushes people away, Ford can’t seem to resist the challenge she presents. Her defiance intrigues him, and his steady intensity unnerves her. One steamy night at the Players Club was supposed to be it for them… but fate, as always, has other plans. When Violet faces a dangerous threat at work, her employer hires a bodyguard, who turns out to be none other than Ford. Because, of course. Forced into close quarters 24/7, their simmering attraction becomes impossible to ignore. The tension between them crackles, their banter is sharp and addictive, and beneath it all is a growing emotional connection neither expected. I’ll admit it took me a while to warm up to Violet. Her brattiness was top-tier, but her rudeness and rough edges made it hard to like her at first. Still, as her layers peeled back, her pain and vulnerability became impossible to miss. Ford, for his part, doesn’t just tolerate her fire, he meets it, matches it, and gently tames it without breaking her spirit. He’s protective, possessive, and utterly devoted, but what makes him irresistible is how he helps Violet see her own strength and worth. When danger closes in and Ford moves Violet into his home for her safety, their emotional bond deepens just as the external threat intensifies. The eventual reveal of who’s behind it all ties the suspense together in a satisfying way, but it’s their emotional journey that truly shines. This is a slow-burn BDSM romance that’s as emotionally charged as it is spicy. Yes, the heat is off the charts, but it’s the heart that lingers. Violet and Ford don’t try to fix each other, they simply see one another, flaws and all, and learn that love doesn’t have to mean losing control. A story of healing, trust, and surrender, both emotional and physical, this book delivers passion, vulnerability, and the kind of connection that burns slow and deep. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
🔥 Enemies to Lovers 🖤 Bodyguard Romance 🔥 Forced Proximity 🖤 Possessive Hero 🔥 Strong Heroine 🖤 Emotional Healing 🔥 Forbidden Attraction 🖤 Protective Alpha 🔥 Found Safety in Love
Star: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25
Playing with Trouble by Erika Wilde is an addictive blend of heat, danger, and heartfelt emotion that perfectly captures what makes enemies-to-lovers romances so intoxicating. As book two in The Players Club Sinners series, it turns the temperature up even higher with a forbidden mix of lust, tension, and vulnerability that keeps you hooked until the very last page.
Violet is a woman who’s been through her share of pain, strong, independent, and unapologetically bold. She’s not looking for love, or even a second chance at trust, when she visits The Players Club for a night of distraction. But Ford Perish changes everything. One look, one night, and suddenly she’s caught in a connection that feels both dangerous and inevitable. Ford is the kind of hero you can’t help but fall for protective, possessive, and intense in all the right ways. He doesn’t try to tame Violet; instead, he challenges her to face her fears and embrace her power.
When a threat from Violet’s professional life escalates, Ford steps in as her full-time bodyguard, and the forced proximity sets off a delicious storm of temptation and emotional chaos. Their dynamic is pure fire constant push and pull, sharp banter, and undeniable attraction. Erika Wilde crafts their relationship with just the right balance of passion and depth, showing how both characters evolve as they navigate danger, desire, and the walls they’ve built around their hearts.
What makes this story stand out isn’t just the spice though there’s plenty of that it’s the emotional intimacy that grows between Ford and Violet. Beneath the possessiveness and tension lies a deep tenderness. Ford doesn’t want to fix her; he wants to see her, flaws and all. Their connection becomes a safe haven, not despite the chaos, but because of it.
Erika Wilde’s writing is sensual and sharp, with just enough suspense to keep your pulse racing alongside the romance. Every stolen glance, every heated argument, and every quiet moment of vulnerability feels earned and deeply satisfying.
I loved this book! PLAYING WITH TROUBLE, Players Club Sinners #2, was one sizzling hot, sexy, delicious story which I couldn't devour quick enough. A fake relationship, protective and dominant alpha, feisty heroine romance which had me constantly smiling and fanning myself.
Violet Corbin hasn't had the greatest life, she has issues with trust and believes love only leads to being vulnerable. She has a bratty and sarcastic attitude, mainly to keep others from getting close. She also has the added stress of looking after her younger brother. Ford Perish is ex-military and now works as a bodyguard. He and Violet know each other through mutual friends, and he's always felt a pull toward her, mainly because of her bratty behavior and his need to tame her. One night at the Players Club was all they were meant to share, but plans don't always work out, do they?
When Violet is threatened at work her employer a bodyguard is hired to watch over her, of course that bodyguard happens to be Ford. Being in close proximity only deepens the tension between them and also their connection. I loved Violet's constant teasing of Ford, her brattiness was spectacular, and Ford's reactions were exactly as I expected an alpha to be. Let's just say, Ford knows how to keep a brat under control. When the threat against Violet worsens Ford quickly changes her living arrangements, his family becomes involved, and relationship statuses are slightly exaggerated. There is more to the threats against Violet, and when it is revealed who is behind them everything finally begins to add up.
Erika Wilde has delivered another entertaining story. Her characters were relatable and likeable, even with the flaws they both willingly acknowledge. Another wonderful addition to this series, and now I can't wait for Playing For Surrender, Tate Holland's story. Make sure to download the NSFW Bonus Scene ... it's hot!
Playing with Trouble by @erikawilde1 has been out for a little over a week now and it was fantastic. I had been looking forward to Ford and Violet since I met them in Playing with Forever. I can’t wait for more in this series.

Playing with Trouble is a steamy, enemies to lovers romance featuring a possessive hero, rebellious heroine, and a collision of hearts that leave them both reeling from a love they never saw coming.
Playing with Trouble is an exhilarating journey into the world of passion, danger, and unexpected love. Erika Wilde masterfully crafts a narrative that grips you from the first page and doesn’t let go until the last.
The chemistry between Ford and Violet, is electric. Ford, with his smoldering looks and protective nature, is the quintessential possessive hero that readers adore. The way he intrudes into Violet's life, transforming her escape into a thrilling game of desire and vulnerability, is both captivating and relatable. Wilde's portrayal of their dynamic is a delicious blend of tension and tenderness that had me rooting for them every step of the way.
What truly stands out is the depth of the characters. Violet’s journey from a troubled past to discovering her strength is beautifully written. Ford doesn’t just guard her body; he protects her spirit, encouraging her to embrace her true self. Their relationship evolves from one of mere attraction to a profound connection that feels genuine and heartfelt.
The stakes are high, and the danger lurking in the background adds a thrilling dimension to the romance. Wilde expertly balances the suspense with steamy moments, leaving readers breathless and eager for more. The enemies-to-lovers trope is executed flawlessly, with witty banter and palpable tension that keeps you turning the pages.
Playing with Trouble is not just a romance; it's a story of healing and self-discovery wrapped in a tantalizing package. If you're looking for a book that offers both heart and heat, this one is a must-read. Wilde has crafted a tale that lingers long after the last page, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!
Oh my, the men of the Players Club Sinners series just keep getting sexier with each new book. I’ve loved this entire universe starting with the Marriage Diaries(Dean & Jillian Noble). Erika Wilde’s newest Players Club Sinners installment is Playing With Trouble featuring the sexy and formidable Ford Perish and the gorgeous and beautiful “brat” Violet Corbin. This author never disappoints with all aspects of her books. Writing style, beautiful and heartfelt characters that are well developed, sexy, and a bit of suspense that make the fall even harder for the women their hearts decide to love. Ford Perish is a security specialist with Noble & Associates who very much likes to “run the show” during the between-the-sheets scenes. Ford is definitely one gorgeous and smart hunk of a man with the biggest heart. Violet Corbin is a well respected card dealer of a Las Vegas casino. Her road to adulthood was not easy and as she watched her mom during these times she learned that men were not trustworthy. Will Ford be able to crack Violet’s defenses and protect her long enough to find a forever kind of love? Read and find out!! I am totally in love with this series. The between-the-sheets scenes you wonder about? Well, you will definitely need a fan! Because not only are these scenes spicy there are elements of much spicier activities going on at the Players Club. Whether you have read an Erika Wilde book before or are new to this author I’m quite confident you will completely and utterly fall in love with Ford and Violet.
Playing with Trouble is book two in the Players Club Sinners series and is the story of Violet and Ford. This is an enemies(ish) to lovers, BDSM, close proximity romance.
Violet has lived a tough life and being an out-spoken, brash brat is her defense against the world. Ford is driven and as someone who works security, control is part of his nature. Having crossed paths before, Violet and Ford have an attraction to one another and when they see one another at the Players Club, Violet can't help but be a brat. As much as she was hoping for someone to be able to handle her attitude, she never expected Ford to be the one to step up to her challenge. When danger comes looking for Violet, Ford is the one to protect her as her bodyguard but such close proximity has them being more than just a job for Ford.
This story was hot as Hades from the get go and the chemistry between Ford and Violet was even hotter. Violet is the ultimate brat but it is her insecurities that make that her default. Ford sees through Violet's brattiness and sees her for the woman underneath the snark and attitude. I appreciated how Ford was so patient with Violet and let her be herself and not try to change her but allowed her to submit to what she needed. The way that Ford's family embraced Violet was beautiful and gave her the feeling of being a part of a family she had never had.
If you are looking for a super spicy book, with some angst, intrigue and a whole lot of heart, this is the book for you. I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving an honest review to show my appreciation.
"My biggest distraction was about to become my most tempting challenge."
⭐⭐⭐⭐
We love a bodyguard romance with a bratty FMC.
This is my first of Erika Wilde's books, and I'm sure it won't be the last. We're introduced to the spice and what we can expect from the get-go. The spice is SPICING right off the bat, with some hefty BDSM scenes that go for quite some time.
I really enjoyed Ford. As someone who absolutely HATES miscommunication in books - his communication level was off the charts, and it was a breath of fresh air. I'm always here for a man who speaks his mind and states what he wants and when he wants it. He's a broody guy who softens for his family and those he loves - and we crave it.
Violet is a complex character. She's bratty and she's stubborn. She has these walls up that she simply will not let fall. Until Ford barrels on in and causes them to crumble. She's just trying to get through life without betrayal and trusts nobody. Girl's a little traumatised.
Maybe, perfect wasn't about being flawless. Maybe, perfect was about being seen exactly as I was - bratty, defiant, damaged, even - and having him accept me anyway."
Considering the length of this book was, to me, on the smaller side, it packed a punch with the amount of plot and character development - especially considering the level of spice within it.
Thank you, Erika Wilde and The Author Agency, for the opportunity to read this eARC!
Violet has an invitation to go to the “Player’s Club” that her sister Andrea and Chase attend. She is looking forward to a little bit of sin to relieve stress. Ford Perish remembers Violet and her brattiness. He plans to tame that a bit. He likes her fire but she needs to learn to listen to a dom. What starts off as a job to protect her becomes a whole lot more. These two met in the last book, Playing with Forever. Ford works with Chase in Security. He has already experienced Violet’s sharp tongue. When these two finally have a scene, Violet is shaken. She has never given control over to anyone. Trusting Ford tempts her and makes her want more. She doesn’t know if she wants what her sister has nor can trust it will last. Ford is a player but when he is with Violet, he can see the big picture. She is perfect for him but to get her to see that and not run is the hard part. And what is the deal with her brother Christopher. He kept acting sketchy. I wasn’t sure if he was loving brother or a user. We learn what is going on with him I am so glad that Vi decided to give her and Ford a chance. He gives her a loving extended family and an outlet to let her brat out. Looking forward to Tate’s story. I loved the bonus story too. That was fun.

Playing with Trouble is the second story in the Players Club Sinners series. I am loving this series and these characters.
Violet has had a difficult past. She had a mother who had trust issues and she does also. She had only had her half brother Christopher until she discovered that she had two half sisters. Andrea has become close to her and has moved to be closer to her. She has invited Violet to the Players Club. When she gets to the club, she sees Andrea's fiancee' Chase's co-workers. One of them is Ford. She has met Ford previously through Chase. Violet and Ford have amazing chemistry. They banter and then he invites her to one of the rooms. After they spend time together she leaves.
Violet works at a casino and is having trouble with a previous customer. The casino decides to hire a bodyguard for her. The person shows up and Violet can't believe it. Of course it is Ford. As they spend more time together Ford wears her down and she begins to trust him. After a situation with her home Ford moves her in with him to protect her.
I love how Violet was such a strong and independent person. She has survived the past and has come out better for it. Ford is so good for her. They have amazing chemistry and he is very protective. Amazing story. Highly recommended.
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy for an honest review.

Playing With Trouble is Violet Corbin and Ford Perish's story. Violet is in danger and the casino she works for hires her a full-time bodyguard from Noble and Associates. Ford Perish is the man. She just wanted a night of fun with him and now he is there full time for her. Due to her family she has a strong distrust for men but when everything she owns is destroyed, she has little choice but to trust Ford. This is a struggle.
Book 2 of the Players Club Sinners can be read as a stand alone; however, I like that the story builds along with the characters from earlier books. Erika Wilde writes about complex, and yes, a little troubled characters. You will find these characters are well developed with chemistry off the charts. Ford has incredible patience too and wants to break through Violet's walls, to gain her trust. The suspense builds while they try to figure out who is out to get Violet.
Playing With Trouble is another book by Erika Wilde that had me turning pages for several reasons: great characters, love the world created around them, mystery surrounding the bad guy and most of all the chemisty between Violet and Ford. It is a must read.
was pure, explosive chemistry from start to finish. Erika Wilde didn’t just write a romance—she wrote a full-on emotional inferno. I swear, the tension between Ford and our heroine could power a small city.
From the very first scene at The Players Club, I was gone. That one look? That one night? Yeah, I knew I was in for it. Ford Perish is everything—brooding, possessive, maddeningly protective—and somehow still manages to be the exact man she needs. Their dynamic was the perfect mix of enemies-to-lovers snark, heart-melting vulnerability, and the kind of steam that fogs up every page.
But what really got me wasn’t just the heat—it was the heart. Beneath all that danger and desire, this book is about trust and healing. He doesn’t try to fix her. He just sees her. And that? That wrecked me in the best way. Watching her let down her guard piece by piece while he matched her strength for strength… ugh. PERFECTION.
This book is raw, sexy, and achingly emotional. It’s the kind of story that makes you blush, cry, and grin all in the same breath. Erika Wilde absolutely nailed it—“Playing with Trouble” is everything I want in a steamy, heartfelt romance. Ford Perish, you can bodyguard me any day.
I am voluntarily writing this honest review after reading a #gifted ARC via Booksprout. Playing With Trouble is Book 2 in the Players Club Sinners series by Erika Wilde. Violet spent one sinful night with Ford at the Players Club and was determined not to look back. But, when her life was in danger, Ford was assigned to be her 24/7 bodyguard. Would Violet be able to resist his personal brand of dominance? This contemporary romance with a touch of romantic suspense is a spicy, open door, first person, dual POV novel which touched on tropes such as BDSM, s3x club, fake dating, heroine in danger, and bodyguard. I found it to be an enjoyable, easy to read book and a perfect book to follow having struggled with my last read. It is a connected standalone novel and would stand fine on its’ own, but the reading experience was enhanced by my having also reviewed the first book in the series and having familiarity with the characters. I loved Violet’s independent nature and feistiness and I loved the way Ford loved it too. The couple had sparks firing on a regular basis for their witty banter, and the emotional component added to the value of the story. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy spicy, BDSM themed, contemporary romantic suspense.
What a way to follow up the first novel in this series.
Violet and Ford are pure fire and if you read Playing with Forever, you were introduced to these two and their fireworks there.
Violet, a sassy brat who has had a hard life, so much so that she has sworn off love and any true connections, because for her, “everybody leaves,” or everyone she has ever been with has told her that she is “too much.” However, threats to her life have her now being protected by the one man who could change everything.
Ford, this man is a walking green DOM flag (I have no idea if that is a real thing, but it is for Ford). Assigned with protecting Violet from the threats that have started having her looking over her shoulder. Ford is the one man who actually sees Violet. He accepts her for who she is and shows her every day that she is worthy of the kind of love she sees in movies and romance novels, and then at night he “punishes” her for her bratty behavior, and he is an excellent punisher.
The way that these two develop comes together excellently. The dislike of lovers—it hits all the right spots. Watching Ford break down Violet’s walls one heavy brick at a time was written beautifully. The tension rolls off of the page. The frustration Ford feels and the uncertainty Violet feels are real and authentic.
The spice! Prepare for many cold showers, because the spice is spicy and this is not a slow burn. This is an early burn and the burn burns so good!
I cannot wait to see where this series goes next.
Thank you Erika Wilde and The Author Agency for the ARC
This is the second book of the Players Club Sinners series, but it can be read as a standalone book. Some people from the first book will make appearances in this book if you did read it.
Ford works with Chase from book one. Violet is the half-sister of Andrea from book one. Ford and Violet met and a skydiving simulator in book one, but they had a rocky start. In this book, they run into each other at a sex club that Chase, Andrea, and Ford all belong to and Violet was invited to. After some verbal banter, there is a hot sex scene and they part ways. Then Violet is a victim of a hit and run and the Casino that employs her as a card dealer hires Ford and Chase's security business to guard Violet. So now Violet and Ford will be together day and night until the issue is resolved. Violet has fun pushing Ford's buttons and Ford has fun teaching Violet who is really in charge. As time goes by though, feelings get involved and things get more complicated. Will Violet be safe from whoever is trying to scare and harm her? Will they find a way to stay together when the threat is gone? Have fun reading Playing With Trouble to find out!
Violet grew up never having family she could count on. She took care of her younger half brothers because her mother was too busy chasing love to care about her kids. When she met her half sisters she let Andrea get closer and eventually they bought a townhouse together. Now Andrea has found her hea (previous book in this series). Andrea getsViolet a guess pass to the 5ex club to let off tension where she spends the evening with Ford, Chase’s (Andrea’s fiancé)coworker and friend. When Violet is run off the road the casino she works for hires security to watch her thinking it’s someone who lost big at her table and blamed her. When the security firm sends Ford, who works with things get interesting. Violet is snarky, independent and basically a brat but the night at the club she submitted to Ford completely. Can Ford convince Violet that they have more than 1 night between them and to believe she can trust him enough to let him live her.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved this addition to the Players Club series. Ford and Violet were everything!!
Ford is a protector and a Dom and loves to tame. Violet is a brat and is wants someone who can handle ee but does not want to tame her outside of the bedroom or change her in anyway. Ford just might be that guy.
Ford is hired to be Violets bodyguard after a horrible hit and run that is suspected to be from a high roller from her job at the casino who lost a lot of money and wants revenge. Other misfortunes happen while Ford is watching out for Violet and they are also getting closer together and finding they have a true connection. Violet may have found her person that is willing to be patient with her and let her be her true self with her walls and mistrust of love. Ford is so patient and understanding with Violet even when he is frustrated with her. He realizes she is his person and is willing to do what it takes to keep her in his life.
Such a great story and I can't wait for the next one!!
This is another smoking hot book with suspense thrown in. Violet was someone I felt sorry for because of how she and her brother were brought up with little love and attention. All they saw was their mother with one man after another. I could understand why Violet hardened her heart, trusted no one, and felt every man left her. When Violet went to the club with her sister and her sister’s fiancé, she was looking for a special man with no commitment. Violet found that in Ford. When a player at Violet’s poker table threatens her and then she gets sideswiped, her company pays for a 24 hour bodyguard to keep her safe. I wish I could have seen her face when she saw that Ford was her bodyguard! Ford was so patient with Violet, but let her know he was in charge. I loved watching the two get to know each other better. I was heartbroken for Violet when they found who was behind all the terrible things happening to her. I enjoyed the book and encourage you to read it.
