Enemies Abroad: In viaggio con il nemico

Rate this book
Io e Noah Peterson siamo nemici.

***quotes are spoilery***

this was “The Hating Game: Teachers Version, Rome Edition, À la R.S. Grey” that didnt quite pack a punch, but still compulsively readable and i would recommend to those who’ve been missing the authors enemies to lovers content.

➝ instead of an office desk across from each other, you get two classrooms standing next to each other;
➝ instead of a wedding, you get a three summer week, school trip to Rome, Italy;
➝ instead of an elevator kiss, you get a that shakes the “enemies” scale the MCs have going on;
➝ you get the same OM drama that manages to be drama-free and still effectively serves its purpose;
➝ instead of paintball, you get a day at ;

Books are my love language. Picking up a story and getting lost in a fictional world—to me, there’s nothing better. The fact that he’s taken the time to read these books might as well be a bouquet of red roses, a mixtape left on my front doorstep, a silent speech delivered on white poster boards at Christmas time.

➝ instead of “bedroom blue,” you get a H who - which okay, *soowns* 😍
➝ the H is of course freakishly tall, Hulk-sized big, insanely hot, and superhero gorgeous;
➝ the h isnt short (tall-ish), but she has the same love for books as Lucy and teaches English.

i know by the way im comparing, i probably make the book sound like a dud, but i dont mean anything negative by it. the book managed to stand on its own, and all the similarities felt nostalgic to me instead of offensive/insulting. the dynamic between the MCs and the way the enemies to lovers was handled just really took me back to THG.

“We were destined to hate each other from the get-go. I can’t remember what exactly set her against me, but does it even matter?”

“[...] I probably made a bad joke about the overzealous person who took the time to organize the coffee station in the corner. It looked like someone had laid out the croissants with a ruler. They were in such a straight line. Turns out, it was the teacher next door. I think her feelings were hurt. Maybe it all went downhill from there.”

“Somewhere along the way…in spite of the fighting and the antics and the bad blood…I started to develop real feelings for her.”

the book didnt go into specifics about the reason behind the “enemies” status, but it did mention that it might have something to do with lol. i think the author tried to evade this topic to avoid criticism by having the MCs admit that theyve gotten so used to being enemies that they didnt particularly remember the why. 😂 i didnt really take an issue with this.

Just to be crystal clear, right here, sitting on the beach, I know. Deep down, I KNOW. Noah’s making his intentions pretty clear.
But I’m not ready to admit it yet. It’s like my brain is padding my heart, trying to keep it safe from the truth.

the H didnt really have depth besides the superficial, but i liked that he wasnt a coward/being dismissive about his feelings for the h. he coaxed the h into opening up about it. the h wasnt too clueless either. she had her moment of misunderstanding, was suspicious of the Hs motives, but eventually let up. i liked watching their relationship morphed into smth more.

“I know you feel the same. I don’t think this is one-sided.” His eyes grow wide with panic. “Jesus, tell me it’s not one-sided. I’ll die right now if it is.”

the romance was pretty slow burn. i enjoyed reading about the trip, which made me want to both travel to Italy and escape it altogether cause the summer heat really seemed unbearable. theres really nothing i would warn against in this book cause it was overall a lovely read and the closest thing you’d find to a comeback of R.S. Greys ~enemies to lovers~ glory days.

awww Rome, I miss you so!!!

Although this book is not the author's best work, there is much to enjoy. Most of all I really appreciated the drama free ending, because I'm not kidding, I was holding my breath expecting it all to implode. Fortunately that wasn't so.

The romance was slow burn, and almost fade to black. And overall I would have loved a bit more one on one time between the couple. But I really enjoyed their connection, even though it was built on almost childish bickering at times, I was glad to see them move away from it eventually.

When they showed their real feelings they were adorable together!!

Overall it was a quick and easy read that will make you want to visit Italy ASAP!!!

RS Grey writing another enemy to lovers book? A win for 2022😮‍💨 We are finally saved!

Noah and Audrey both work at a middle school. Audrey is an English teacher, whereas Noah is a math teacher. They're fortunate enough that they are classroom neighbors and get to share a classroom wall and can't escape each other. When the principal announces that volunteers are needed to oversee their Italy trip, no one wants to do it until they are promised a $2,500 bonus. Noah and Audrey, unsurprisingly, jump at the chance to volunteer while also attempting to persuade the others to drop out.

However, that plan falls through, and they'll have to spend three weeks in Italy together. When they arrive in Italy, they meet Lorenzo Ricci, the head of the summer study abroad programs at St. Cecilia's International School. He takes a liking to Audrey right away. Noah, on the other hand, isn't too fond of it.

And he dislikes it when Lorenzo and Audrey go out for breakfast together. It's fine to admit that you're jealous, Noah; we all know you are. It's not long until one of the females chaperoning for the other school who is staying with them asks Noah out on a date. It doesn't help that Audrey was the one who helped him get this date, so he goes to talk with her. She ends up proposing a double date because she doesn't want him to make any conclusions about why she helped.

Double dates can't be all bad, right? Even if it does not turn out the way they had hoped. Especially when their dates show interest in each other, prompting both of them to leave them alone to go get some food. They don't, however, grab food. It's more like they'll devour each other's faces instead. I'd call that a win for me.

This kiss has obviously ruffled some feathers, and they must now sort it out. Especially considering they have opposing viewpoints on this kiss. Noah isn't going to let Audrey get away with not talking about what happened.

*thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review*

Dear R.S. Grey, I think someone edited all the spice out of your book

The set up for this was very 'The Hating Game' which I was super excited about because I love enemies to lovers so so much.

Instantly I noticed a lot of parallels between the books and was settled in to devour it but then the focus just kind of became about things in Rome, sightseeing, school kids, some secondary love interests. I wanted the sexual tension and romance between Audrey and Noah to sizzle and instead we got...*gasp* a clean read folks...a clean romance book and honestly I don't need 10,000 sex scenes in a book but to fade to black not once, twice but 3 times and yeesh. I know you know how to write incredible spice R.S. Grey so I felt a bit let down and deceived here because there was hardly any tension at all. Noah was so... passive and Audrey at times was so awful that I just didn't see any sparks between them besides the fact that we're told over and over how good looking they both are.

Definitely not my favorite by this author by a long shot.

Witty (and R.S. Grey-brand of cute) banter? check
Scenic location? check
Anything else? ehh....

I have read every single R.S. Grey book out there. I can't help it. Her writing makes me laugh and feel fuzzy inside. But lately, her books have just been a miss for me :/

Enemies Abroad is about Noah and Audrey, the two chaperons of a middle-school study abroad trip to Rome. Although surrounded by beautiful and historical architecture, scrumptious food, and cannolis- I repeat, cannolis, Noah and Audrey have a problem with the assignment: they hate each other. In typical R.S. Grey fashion, the heroine is lovable yet goofy and the love interest is stoic yet secretly sentimental. And that's not a problem. We clearly know what we're getting into with this book.

My issue is that beyond the truly funny banter between Noah and Audrey (and the flashback to when we all used our closed fists to practice french kissing- don't deny it), there is very little else in this read.

Conflict? Never heard of it.
Characterization? Does a love for food count as a personality trait?
Secondary characters? Try again.

There just isn't much substance to any of the characters or the situation (case and point: why do Nathan and Audrey hate each other? It's the question of 2022). This could be due to its concise (aka short) length (298 pages on my kindle), but either way, it was hard to become invested in Audrey/Nathan when it felt like we were just dropping in here and there to listen to their funny lines.

Also, there was no steam (temperature: 98.0 F). Color me disappointed.

"Every day I wake up and think, Good morning to everyone except Noah Peterson."

This was very quick and cute read. I love enemies to lovers and even tho the reason behind the "enemies" part was very vague and kinda ridiculous i didn't mind.
I only wished the relationship between Noah and Audrey was more developed and not so rushed.

Otherwise the chemistry, the banter, the jealosy, the slowburn, italy in summer - everything was on point.

The way this book hyped me up with all the witty banter between the leads, the awkward moments, the brewing romance and most of all, the tension so thick it was so palpable…

…only to disappoint on the *actual* romance part.

Where’s the mercy, Ms. Grey?? It’s like the fast forward button was hit right when the leads finally got together and before I know it, the book’s finished. Like, whaaaat?

Thanks to the free tour around Rome though. But also… no thanks. I feel like a child sulking so just… let me be. 🥺😢😩

4/5 ⭐️ R.S. Grey never fails to put a smile on my face with her books. If I’m ever looking for a funny and sweet romance book, I always turn to her. Her writing just brings me so much comfort!

This book literally had me laughing out loud at times. The banter between Audrey and Noah was so good! I adored them so much. I loved Audrey’s character. She was hilarious!! She would be such a fun friend to have!

I loved the premise of the story and how the majority of this book was spent in Rome. It just gave me great summer vibes! I adored it!

The romance was a slow burn and there wasn’t really any spice but I loved it anyway! I liked how their transition from “enemies” to lovers was handled and I fell in love with their romance.

I did wish we had Noah’s POV though. That was the only thing missing.

Ah, enemies to lovers (mostly) never fails - and this was no execption! Set in Rome, my love, and filled with hilarious banter, this was the perfect cozy rom-com! The only thing that prevented it was the lack of a twist. You know, when everything falls apart and they still find their way back....I do so love those :)

R.S. Grey produces a fun, lighthearted and easy to read story with a sprinkle of sexiness and great wanderlust satisfaction.

Plot : After major incentives are dangled in front of them, Audrey Cohen and Noah Peterson agree to chaperon the summer trip organized by the middle school they work at. It’s perfect on paper. An all expense trip to Rome, Italy plus a $2,500 bonus. The catch is that Audrey and Noah are infamous at the school for their animosity and the pranks they play on each other. Can they survive three weeks together while tending to a gaggle of thirteen-year-olds?

Heroine : Audrey is an English teacher who tries her best to be liked by her students and peers. Mostly though, she’s in denial that Noah wants to get to know her and is convinced that he’s out to get her. Hence all the pranking.

Hero : We get to know Noah through Audrey’s eyes. He’s the cool teacher who takes everything in stride until they get to Rome and Lorenzo, their teacher/tour guide takes an interest in Audrey. After which, Noah seems to decide it's time for Audrey to realize he's the guy for her.

Sexiness : Audrey and Noah’s romance is a very slow burn and close door sexy times. They had been classroom neighbors for years. But being forced to interact as chaperons they figure out that they not only balance each other out, but that they’re perfect for one another.

Facts : Enemies Abroad is a standalone rom-com by author R.S. Grey. Written if first person and from the heroine’s POV except for the epilogue with a happy ending. Other tropes: enemies to lovers | travel

As always, this novel by R.S. Grey did not disappoint! This novel was filled with some of my favourite tropes aside from the obvious and alluded to one of being enemies-to-lovers. I will not spoil the other tropes involved because they are a treat for readers to discover as they read this charming story.

More than containing some of my favourite tropes, I loved both of these characters! I love when I can honestly say that I love both of the main characters because sometimes my interest can lean towards one more than the other. Not in this case. The character of Audrey was relatable and hilarious and Noah was charming while being equally as comedic.

As well, I loved the travel component of this novel. It was the necessary escape to a foreign land that I needed while being stranded in the midst of current world issues. I also do have to mention that I appreciated that what is currently going on in the world (in regards to a certain virus) didn’t play a part in this story. This was a story that gave me the ability to escape from that and for that, I’m thankful.

Each time I read an R.S. Grey novel, I’m always surprised with the level of enjoyment I have while reading. I keep thinking that she’s achieved the best with each novel and that there’s nowhere else for her to go. I’m happy to say that I’m wrong and that I’ll be just as eager for her next book.

**Thank you to R.S. Grey for sending me an e-ARC to read and review.**

❤❤❤ 5+++ Audrey & Noah stars! ❤❤❤

I LOOOVED THIS BOOK!!!

I absolutely inhaled it, cover to cover! In fact, it's safe to say that this is MY FAVOURITE READ THIS YEAR (well, so far anyway. It's only March afterall!)

I loved Audrey (hilarious!)
I loved Noah (sarcastic men are my weakness!)
I loved them as enemies, and I loved them as lovers.
R.S Grey has a reputation for writing excellent enemies-to-lovers romances and I can totally see why! The banter and the chemistry are perfectly timed and intertwined and leaves you wanting more. In fact, the worst thing about the book is that it ended.

I loved the Rome vacation and the food. Lorenzo, Giuseppe, pasta and wine... all so divine!
I loved the middle-schoolers and the teachers, the staffroom antics and the road trips.

This was such a fun. A Perfectly paced, slow-burn delight! I was completely emersed in the pages and caught myself smiling with abandon on more than one occasion.

I needed something light and witty. Something that reminded me why I fell in love with romance to begin with.
This had no hidden 'message' or moral lesson.
It was not trying to embrace diversity or highlight social-justice issues.
It was not trying for OTT eroticism or manipulative pulling of heart-strings.
No one dies.
No one is a billionnaire boss, or a tattoed rebel with a chip on his shoulder.
No one is a recluse suffering from amnesia.
No one is forbidden fruit.
There's no drama.
No vampires or dukes or mafia bosses.

This is just a simple story about every-day characters, who flirt and banter and sweep you into their world for a few hours. And sometimes, when it's done this well, that's all I'm looking for!

Loved it!

Enemies Abroad is a rom com in case you can't tell from the title already, it's an enemies to lovers romance! It takes place in Italy, where two teachers, Noah and Audrey, have to spend their summer in Rome with a class of middle school students! 🤭

This book took me back to summertime and back to Italy and I ate it up!! Also, the slow burn, the hate to love romance, the forced proximity and the humor was just my cup of tea, or should I say espresso? 😉😍 If you're loving such books, I definitely recommend this one ❤️

If you loved The Hating Game, this book definitely gives such vibes, but consider it Rome summer edition with the classic R.S. Grey writing style. A light, fun and delightful romantic read to get lost and travel through its pages in the streets of Italy, along with our protagonists. 😍❤️

Cute
I love slow burs so gave this a chance
MCs go through a trip to Italy to Saint Cecilia Academy summer seminar and this is a mistake because this VERY high profil music school top ten in the world is a university !!
Mild interest for Italian guy Lorenzo R va and a double date that start their relationship … they kiss IMO as usual a lot of stereotypes on Italy and Italians … but she plays this like this not bad neither remarkable

Review by Lisa Kane

I adore this author's stories! She's funny, her characters are usually a little quirky with some sass thrown in and are truly likeable. The heroines may be a little insecure sometimes, but they are strong and there's not a doormat to be found. The guys are usually a little bossy, confidant but not obnoxious. The pages of her romances fly as I devour their stories.

Enemies Abroad fits right into my description. Audrey Cohen and Noah Peterson are both teachers at the same middle school. Their classrooms are right next to each other and their relationship-well they aren't exactly enemies but they seem to push each other's buttons. The reader only has Audrey's POV (except for a short epilogue from Noah's) so while we know Audrey's thoughts, we can only pick up on Noah's from Audrey. And sometimes those are way off base.

When an accident leaves an opening for two teachers to chaperone a three week class trip to Italy, along with a $2500 bonus, both Noah and Audrey show interest. Neither one backs down and they are both Italy bound!

Noah is not your average supervilain. "Radiating kindness" and "using clear and concise communication" will not help me here. I need to know how to set trip wires with dental floss, how to whittle my lip liner down to a shank in fifteen seconds flat, how to survive on a diet of spite for twenty-one days straight.

Audrey is a rigid planner. That's actually putting it mildly. She prefers every minute of the day to be precisely arranged and to follow the schedule. Not possible with nine kids with strong wills. Noah is struggling with his jealousy (Audrey for some reason doesn't pick up on this!) over the Italian guide assigned to the study abroad groups. Lorenzo, the guide, seems to have quite the interest in Audrey.

"Should we set up some ground rules?" he finally asks.

My heart skips a beat then races to catch up.

"Like what?"

"Like no sleeping with the program director?"

Now it's my turn to hold back a snort.

"Finding your tempted?" I hold my hands in defeat. "Hey, go for it."

Noah doesn't like my cutesy act.

Nothing like a little competition to light a fire under a certain hero's butt. Audrey is pretty dense when it comes to Noah's interest. She's suspicious of any gesture he makes. I have to say, she got on my nerves. As much as it seemed they shared mutual disdain for each other, really it's Audrey who keeps that going. Noah feeds off of her reactions. The lady doth protest too much.

"You think I'm going to up and leave you at the airport when we fly back to the States? Check you off my list? Nice knowin' ya?"

It would be impossible for these two not to explore their feelings in the Eternal City. The descriptions of the excursions, the glorious food and desserts and the vibrancy of Rome...just add to this story.

Enemies Abroad is well worth the trip, think of it as a vacation for your romantic soul without all the pesky packing.

"It was only a matter of time."

I’m on alert every time Rachel publishes a book and when it’s enemies to lovers well, then I’m more than excited.

Audrey and Noah were so fun to follow around in Rome. I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers and forced proximity and they had it all. I really liked to see the way their relationship developed and know more about both characters.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book, there were only some parts were I got a little bored since I don’t fell that they added something to the story.
If you’re looking for a fun and good read then you seriously need to pick this book!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a 100% honest review

Enemies Abroad is a slow burn, enemies to lovers romance from the brilliant mind of R.S. Grey and it has officially become one of my favourite comfort reads, I could not get enough of it!

Audrey and Noah are colleagues at Lindale Middle School, and are going to be spending the next three weeks together in Italy, chaperoning a group of eighth grade students on a study abroad program.

From the first page I was captivated by these two characters; their banter was full of wit and their chemistry was undeniable — it floated off the page in waves.

Audrey and Noah's relationship was well-developed throughout, the moments that they shared being understated and pure which made me swoon!

I also loved the vivid imagery of the Italian landscape and food, it was described so beautifully, I could clearly envision myself seeing the sights and eating the food.

Enemies Abroad has it all:

Enemies-to-lovers ✓
Forced proximity ✓
Fiery slow-burn ✓
Banter to the max ✓
Pure, swoon-worthy moments ✓

I absolutely loved every minute of this novel, I never wanted it to end!

And once again I am reminded why I love R.S. Grey's writing style so much.

Her most recent books haven't quite reached that level her earlier books did in my opinion, but now, with Enemies Abroad , I think she is finally back! I really enjoyed this one and everything just seemed to fall into place; the setting, the enemies to lovers trope, jealousy (but not knowing why, at least in Audrey's case), pining from afar for a long time (in Noah's case) and hilarious and witty banter that makes you feel like you are watching tennis from reading all the back-and-forth.

The book mostly takes place in Italy, and oh I cannot describe how much I miss traveling! The excursions they did, the food, the scenery - I really, really wanted to trade place with them. (and finding my own love story there too wouldn't be a trouble. at all.)

The only improvement I would have liked is having the story told from Noah's PoV as well as Audrey's. I just love seeing everything from both sides (and the pining! the angst! the longing!).

Enemies Abroad made me want to reread all my favourites by R.S. Grey again and made me so excited for her next release (whenever that may be), because this book shows exactly why her light and heartwarming stories are so captivating. It doesn't hurt that they are hilarious too and will leave you with a smile on your face.

A big thank you to the author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

R.S. Grey hit this one out of the park! I LOVED this one! I raced through it and then felt giddy at the ending! It was so good! No one writes enemies to lovers quite as well as R.S. Grey and this was the ultimate enemies to lovers. The hilarious ways that they got back at each other, their witty banter and smoking chemistry was perfect. Both Audrey and Noah were wonderful characters and so easy to love. All the secondary characters brought so much to the story as well. The setting in Rome made me wish I was there right now. I only have 2 small complaints. I do wish it was dual POV and it was so slow burn that you got very little time with them actually together at the end. But, that’s really me being selfish and wanting more time with these characters. It’s lighthearted, funny and just a pure joy to read! This is a book I know I will reread in the future. Definitely recommend this one!

RS Grey is one of my go-to authors for rom-coms. Her books are always light, funny, and swoon-worthy.

This book follows Audrey and her nemesis, Noah. These two have clashed since they met 3 years ago. They constantly needle each other. Needless to say, they don’t get along. Now, they’re stuck chaperoning a 3-week summer trip to Rome with some of their middle school students. It’s a recipe for disaster…or is it? You know what they say, there is a fine line between love and hate.

If you’re looking for a cute, easy read, then look no further! Enemies Abroad is an entertaining, funny read. You won’t be able to stop turning the pages!

I didn't rate this book higher because there wasn't any conflict between the love interests after they got together which is unusual. Usually, there is some type of hurdle they have to overcome together. I also didn't rate it higher because I never understood why Noah and Audrey were enemies.

Overall, I enjoyed this book! The chemistry between the two main characters is evident from their first encounter in the book. I couldn’t wait to see them finally admit their feelings to each other! RS Grey never disappoints.

Thanks to the author for sending me an early copy in exchange for an honest review!

i absolutely adored this book. enemies to lovers with forced proximity is what dreams are made of and this one was perfect. this book is seriously an rs grey classic with the laugh out loud comedy and sizzling romance - sprinkle in a hint of angst and it’s a book you can’t forget. if you’re a fan of sally throne’s “the hating game” then i would highly recommend this one! the only thing i wish was that it wasn’t fade to black on the smut scenes. i hope rs grey writes more books with this trope since she never misses with it.

I ADORED THIS. teachers of the same school, noah and audrey are enemies at work. when volunteering to chaperone a group of eighth graders in rome comes with a bonus check, both of them signed up for the job. it soon becomes obvious that there’s a thin line between love and hate. following audrey’s perspective, it might seem as if noah has something out against her but to the rest of us, he’s enamored by her. while audrey says it’s only hate, she’s weirdly aware of noah’s likes and dislikes. they watched each other closely during their time in school and it’s all going to explode in rome.

r.s. grey has did it again, this time with an enemies-to-lovers, one bed trope. i absolutely loved it. the attraction between audrey and noah was extremely obvious to everyone else except them. rather, audrey doesn’t want to admit but noah’s feelings were pretty much written in black and white. i loved exploring rome with the two of them and watching their “hate” blossom into something else.

this is probably one of my favorite books by the author. it feels soft and fluffy with a sexual tension that’s just off the roof. once noah’s intentions were clear, i just want them to be together. i had so much fun.
