This book was ok. It was cute. But it is lacking depth, plot, and character development. Some characters are suddenly introduced and then just leave. The characters in the story seem to have some name inconsistency, the main characters name just kinda changes and there’s no explanation for exactly why and then she is referred to by both names after different t times in the book, as well as the aunt. Then at one point a character gives the MC a key to a room that seems like she has already been into without the key. The MC’s suspicious friend just seems to show up and then just doesn’t go away, with no relationship development or explanation. Then whats worse js that character keeps giving the MC hints on what to do but never explains anything! It just feels very unfulfilling, you get right to the brink of new information, something that could’ve been developed and become very interesting very quickly, and then it just dissipates. The storyline does get a bit better. I would’ve liked more details and more interaction from characters. I don’t think everything resolved itself by the end. I still enjoyed the story.
It’s an okay read. I’ve read worse, so I didn’t go to one star. It feels very much like it was written by AI. I won’t make assumptions, but that’s the vibe I get from the sentence structure and poor editing.
The premise of the storyline is enjoyable and would be a good book if written with more depth. There’s a difference between “cozy” and “such low stakes its boring.” This book falls into the latter category.
I didn’t feel compelled to finish this book because it’s neither plot nor character driven. It just moves along at a slow, painful, strange clip, meandering through the storytelling like there’s no linear process. All of these reasons are why I suspect it’s either AI generated or heavily AI assisted. I use AI frequently to help in research for my business and personal life. This book feels very much like those engagements. Seems **almost** human, but it’s missing complexity. I DNF’d it halfway through.
This was all purple prose and not plot. While I don’t expect heavy character development in a novella-length story, I still want to like/enjoy the characters and this offered nothing. The concept had promise but didn’t deliver.
One passage in particular made me question if this author utilized AI; “the baker was snuffing the last candles of his oven”. First, are ovens in this world candle powered? Did it mean to say flames, and if so, snuffing isn’t quite the right descriptor either. Second, the town baker is very clearly shown to be a woman up to this point, supported by the fact that she brings the MC baked goods every day, so it’s not like she’s a total background character. A weird inconsistency that is the sort of thing AI likes to generate.
All in all, not the cozy tea shop story I was hoping for.
I am giving it three stars because I DNFd it, so don’t want to rate it lower without full commitment.
When Lila inherits her aunt's tea tavern in the village of Eldhollow, she finds a new home and welcoming community. Serving soothing teas and dispensing quiet truths comes naturally to Lila, but she soon learns that there's more to her role. Lila must decide if she will answer the call to become a guardian of the ancient network of earth magic that sustains the tavern and village.
This story was full of cozy comfort and gentle wisdom. While many of the characters remain mysterious or appear only briefly, there is a feeling of warmth that lingers. I look forward to returning to the Enchanted Tea Taven for future tales.
With a touch more editing and polishing this book could shine even brighter. There were a few inconsistencies in the characters names and their spelling, and in certain other details.
The book is quite good….but, the description refers to the main character as “Wren”. However, there is no reference to Wren (only Lila) until 2/3 of the way into the book. So, that was kinda confusing. There is lots of tea information which I, as a tea drinker, found quite interesting. There are charming characters, a wonderful cat, magic, and lots of magical wisdom, and no cliffhanger ending. Plus a short story was included at the end of the book…so, that was nice. A really good book for curling up in a comfy chair with a pot of tea on a cold or rainy day.
Although I read this in one, short sitting (because I didn't want to put it down), it was also because I loved the way human interactions were shown. Lila was portrayed as very human in her self-doubts, fears, and foibles. Trust took time. But she kept going, and grew into her new position in spite of herself. This book is definitely on my "reread" list. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Found this gem of a book browsing Amazon and enrolled into a kindle trial just so i could read it. This was absolutely worth every second of my time and cherished the time I spent with this story in my lap! Finally found THE BOOK my heart & soul have been longing all these years - THANK YOU!
What a wonderful, cozy book. I very much enjoyed the story. It feels very comforting and reminds you of what is important. I especially enjoyed having a cup of tea with the tavern.
I enjoyed this and it was a quick read but it isn't necessarily a book that I will remember a year from now. The MC is sweet and I believe that is why I am giving it three stars. I started with the audible version and it was awful. I wanted a book for a rainy evening and this worked.
Disjointed, confused, barely a plot. Felt like an AI written book. Barely any structure, barely any plot, and no real storyline to follow. Characters are barely there, with no real background or context as to why they are there. Give it a miss and save your money. Badly AI written book
As a lover of teas, magic and taverns, I savored this story. It is well worth your attention. Make sure to have a cup of tea beside you while you read.
I had high hopes for this book and I was simply disappointed. the concept and idea for this book was promising, but the plot and and characters made this tale fall flat.
