Katie Flynn was born in Norwich and attended Norwich High School, where she was extremely happy and extremely undistinguished. Published at the tender age of eight, in Enid Blyton's Sunny Stories, she joined a Writers’ Circle as an adult, publishing short stories, articles, etc; only turning to novels in 1971 because the postal strike cut off her main source of income! At first she wrote under several different names – Judith Saxton, Judy Turner, Lydia Balmain, Judith Arden – but her Katie Flynn books were a delight to write and proved far more popular than she had dreamed. She has now published nearly ninety novels, twenty-seven of which are Flynns. Her most recent titles are: Lost Days of Summer and Christmas Wishes.
I have been wanting to try reading Katie Flynn books from a very long time. Seems like I couldn't have picked a better book than this. A nice light read set in the 1930s and 40s about a young girl. Her friendships, her family, her dreams, her aspirations, and finally a wonderful love story. I loved the author's writing style. Definitely would pick more of her books if I ever want a light hearted cozy read.
I live on Daisy Street so I was keen to read this book. I learnt a few things about how the area used to be, for example, I didn't realise there was a school where the newer houses have been built. I could relate to the family's concern about taking in lodgers; these houses are tiny.
I didn't like the ending at all and I found the main character deeply disappointing. There's nothing worse than finishing a book and realising it's wasted your time!
This book brought back happy memorys to me i was brought up around daisy st and went to daisy st school p, learned first aid in stanley hospital so it was most enjoyable but it gave me the insite of the war and going in the shelters what my mam & granny had to do very interesting book
A lovely read set in 1930`s Liverpool. The story is mainly about Kathy growing up in Liverpool and then joining the war effort during the second world war. Although from a quite a poor area of Liverpool Kathy`s parents wanted the best for her and did their utmost to ensure that she was well educated. Tragedy did strike early but Kathy was still able to continue with her education.
Love all Katie Flynn books, easy to read, great stories and well written. All the characters come to life , and it's easy to get lost in their stories.
Not the best dragged on and the chapters went for far to long I've loved all Katie's books and I won't give in after just one bad one. But yes not my favorite.
I love the way you can lose youself in a Katie Flynn book. This one was set in war time and the 2 girls eventually join the RAF and are going out with 2 lads also working in the raf on bomber planes.
