Book Review I was not a regular viewer of General Hospital, but during the 1990s and 2000s, I kept very close tabs on all the story lines, history and actors on each of the daytime dramas. I liked knowing the spoilers, comparing shows and seeing which actresses and actors were moving from show to show. It made sense that I'd read this book all about GH. Just like the ATWT, DOOL and GL books, it was very useful in learning all the family connections, seeing older pictures and getting immersed in the history. A great book to flip thru, a few pages at a time, to keep close to the shows you enjoy. :)

I am a huge fan of this show and grew up on the various characters from Robin, Dawn, Brenda, Jax, Steve, Colton, the Quartermaines and so many more. This book cuts off during the mid 90s so it ends on some great storylines with Lily's death/Jax and BRenda marry, Stone & Robin, and of course Maxie's heart.
I cannot sell this book hard enough--it is a great breakdown of all the storylines up to that point and makes things I never even got to read be exciting from early Luke & Laura, Terry & Patrick/Kevin, Steve and Audrey.... Just great
I have been watching General Hospital since I was way too young to be watching General Hospital. I watched Steve Burtons debut episode in 1991. I use to watch a show called Out of This world...(age appropriate) and on that show Steve Burton played the main characters boyfriend, and I thought he was just great... I think I saw in the TV guide that he was leaving Out of this World for General Hospital... no problem I'll just watch that! It's worth mentioning that I was like 7... so there ya go
All of the cast were given copies of this book. Anna Lee gave me her copy for Christmas 1995. It has been signed by the following actors: Bradford Anderson, Brandon Brash, Julie Marie German, Derk Cheetwood, Drew Cheetwood, Michael Cole, Scott Egan, Kiko Ellsworth, Brian Gaskell, Blake Gibbons, Jim Gibbons, Carolyn Hennesy, Jonathan Jackson, Anne Jeffreys, Lindze Letherman, Lisa LoCicero, Stephen Macht, Ronnie Mario, Robin Mattson, Rick Moses, Haley Pullos, Ingo Rademacher, Aaron Refvem, Tristan Rogrs, Kirsten Storms, Kellie Sullivan, Jason Thompson, Bruce Weitz, & Dominic Zamprogna.
It seems crazy to suddenly get back into a soap opera that I hadn't watched since the mid to late 80s but recently I did when someone sent me a YouTube link to Luke and Laura's wedding on their November wedding anniversary. I found that there was a spotty record of videotaped episodes of the show from 1978 to the present with 1982 on very well covered. To my surprise the writing, acting and direction of the show is great and really rises to great heights, no wonder the soap opera form was at its heyday at that period of time. It prompted me to take a gander at the current show which I found quite wanting. Not only are the story lines grim, but the dialog and the characters don't hold up. There is no sense of community nor do people seem to like each other very much. The 80s show did have at the center a feeling for community, non-violence and "love in the afternoon". Anyway I ordered this book from the library because of my renewed interest. The book spends a lot of time on synopsis of plot lines through 1995 when the book was published with a few reminisces from characters and actors, present and past. My all time favorite actors and characters, Genie Francis (Laura) and Tony Geary (Luke) aren't interviewed or covered very much. They probably weren't willing but it is still a huge gap. Ironic so it seems, those two characters are the ones that I find I am loath to see end badly but the current soap isn't equipped to cover a story like theirs anymore which derives on sensationalism and violence. Yes there was the ice princess but the worst part of that story took place during a four month writers' strike in which the producer chose not to hire scabs but write the ending itself. Maybe an an authorized scrapbook would have been more meaty and had a deeper sense of time and place. This book is rather shallow.
This book was great for me. As a long time fan, who wants to know everything about the show, this was a great way for me to go back way before I started watching. I still refer to it when I am curious about the premise of an event that relates to the past.
