Amelia Hutchins is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author of the Monsters, The Fae Chronicles, and Nine Realm series. She is an admitted coffee addict who drinks magical potions of caffeine and turns them into magical worlds. She writes alpha-hole males and the alpha women who knock them on their arse, hard. Amelia doesn’t write romance. She writes fast-paced books that go hard against traditional standards. Sometimes a story isn’t about the romantic aspect; it’s about rising to a challenge, breaking through them like wrecking balls, and shaking up entire worlds to discover who they are. WITHIN THE DARKNESS Moon-Kissed Book 2 TBA THE DARKEST FAE King of the Shadow Fae Coming Soon King of the Night Fae Queen of the Stars
Fate Series Whispers of Fate (Intro to Kahleena’s book)
If you’re following the Fae Chronicles, Elite Guards, and Monsters series, the reading order is as follows.
Fighting Destiny Taunting Destiny Escaping Destiny Seducing Destiny A Demon’s Dark Embrace Playing with Monsters Unraveling Destiny Sleeping with Monsters Claiming the Dragon King Oh, Holy Knight Becoming his Monster A Demon’s Plaything The Winter Court If She’s Wicked Embracing Destiny Crowning Destiny Revealing the Monster Whispers of Fate
Remi is an idiot (blame it on the baby brain I guess) for 89% of the book before she finally has the balls to stand up to Rhys and leave him.
Rhys continues to treat Remi like shit for no good reason. Dude seriously has more mood swings than Remi and she’s the one who’s pregnant.
We were promised a grovel but his half assed apology (if you can even call it that) and his excuses were just pathetic. Remi gave in to quickly. She should have let Nyx be her baby’s daddy instead of this tool.
Seriously Rhys is horrible, how to you treat the woman carrying your child so abysmally? He threw her out, renounced her and their child, froze all her accounts so she had no money, turned the entire town against her so she would be blacklisted and left her to live in squalor WHILE PREGNANT but wouldn’t let her leave either to seek a life somewhere else FOR 4 FUCKING MONTHS. She couldn’t even see an OBGYN to make sure her baby was ok and then only when she’s attacked he comes swooping in expecting her to fall on his dick and be grateful but still emotionally, mentally and physically (he chokes her a lot and pins her up against walls) abuses her WHILE SHE’S PREGNANT!! He even left her with an untreated bullet wound which got infected. The only reason she didn’t die or lose the baby is because of some seriously crazy plot armor.
She should have melted his internal organs and moved on with her baby and Nyx. I think I’m officially over the over-the-top Alpha-holes who treat their women like shit but then claim they love them at the very end.
Also there were so many random characters in this book.
Spoilers ahead! This review is going to hurt as I usually love Amelia’s writing and Bulletproof Damsel is my second favourite to her Monsters series, I am really disappointed by how this story played out, the three stars is a push for me.
Bulletproof Damsel ended with Remi being firm on standing on her two feet and throwing a big fuck you to Rhys, that crumbled very quickly in Silverproof Damsel. Remi became a jellyfish of a woman who ran straight to the man who did everything he could to break her as soon as it got tough.
There were parts of this story that were absolutely what I wanted to see, there were hints of the bad bitch we saw in the first book but not enough to satisfy me.
There was more effort on describing the rooms of the Onyx Wing than there was in explaining the what, where, when, details of the relationship between Illeron and Donte. I was also pissed to see Remi held so much power and she let Rhys lock her away like a pet, the fight was not there and it really ruined the book for me.
The part where Nyota was hurt with the silver, Remi states she knew the silver was hers, her blood, sweat and tears went into that silver. Later Remi states the silver wasn’t hers, then she pulled the silver which was hers from Nyota. Maybe I’ve fucked up and not read it right and I’ll take the hit on this, but page 177 Remi said “the horror shot through me at the knowledge of it being my silver wielded against the Van Helsings”then on page 293 Remi said “The Silversmith who forged the metal could remove it from her system. I can’t, I wasn’t the one who forged that silver”. That really bothered me.
There were also some silly things where I don’t think enough attention to detail was given such as when Rhys noticed Remi had been hurt in a dreamscape, then later when he fed from her he acted shocked that she had been hurt and made a statement that he is honour bound to not feed from her if she is injured…..he knew she was injured.
Another thing Rhys told Remi he could smell her arousal, she asked if he could smell her arousal like it was new information. Rhys is an incubus, arousal is his afternoon snack, and also is not new information.
I’m sorry I have picked this book a part, however, it just did not hit the mark I was hoping for.
I’ve read almost all of her books. This was plain awful. Even beyond the serious issue with the content and subject matter that she tries to relieve herself of responsibility for with an extremely condescending halfa$$ed warning. It isn’t actually a warning, it’s a defensive and accusatory statement punctuated with bold words that I guess are supposed to somehow make it more powerful (sadly, they add no value).
Plain and simple this book was beyond $tupid.
I rely heavily on others reviews. I see far too many that gush about how amazing a book is only to read something riddled with errors and lacking entertainment it’s meant to provide. I don’t want to be mean, but I won’t give a sunshiney review that only leads to disappointment. Particularly if you have to spend money. Not every book out there is great and deserves 5 stars. Most do not. More so now with self-publishing in play.
Now, this book…
I’ve thought before that books had the worst MFC, but this so easily tops any others. Not only because she is obnoxious. She is TSTL on a level I’ve not seen before. She is so weak it’s astonishing especially given that she’s supposed to be all strong and bada$s.
There is so much wrong with this book I won’t even list them all. It completely lacks imagination. Utilizes “steamy” scenes over plot. The editing is severely lacking (same as all of her books). There are phrases and character actions that she uses repeatedly in this one as well as her others. The whole “ruin me” thing (clearly a go to for her. And just way too high school cringe speak to belong) The offering mercy for which he has none to offer. Again she overuses this in all her books. This character can’t stop the incessant shivers he causes in every single interaction. Or wetting the suddenly dry lips. Or chewing on the bottom lip. The thundering heart beat so loud she can hear nothing else.
The characters are more inconsistent than any I’ve read. Esp Remi. From one paragraph to the next it’s like whiplash.
The authors penchant for making every. single. MFC that she writes as being literally unable to control themselves around the MMC is questionable to say the least. In this case it happens literally every single interaction, including when he’s in the midst of being abusive on repeated occasions. He actually tells her she’s trash. He puts her down, belittles her, intentionally hurts her, locks her up to be his prisoner, accuses her of all kinds of things and physically hurts her. Yet WHILE he is doing so she can’t control her need for him. Because you know, he’s hot. WTAF? She is listening to this and hoping and wishing in her internal dialogue that they will live happily ever after? The sheer level of screwed up - ness this (and her other books) reveals is breathtaking.
Far too many people now are easily influenced by all forms of media. Glamorizing this $hit is just pathetic. No matter what kind of poor excuse for a warning you add to a book. You have to pay before you can even read the bs warning no less.
I really liked the Nine realms series. Own all digital and print. This is the last book of hers I will purchase or read. Just that turned off of her work now.
I should add too that the warning that none of these types of supernatural characters are human she actually contradicts herself in the book multiple times. They are immortals. Most with gifts depending on the type of immortal. As she mentions more than once, those without these abilities are mortals. Not humans vs non-humans. It just happens to be convenient to state in the defensive warning.
If you love books where the MMC enjoys continuously verbally and emotionally, and sometimes physically abusing the MFC. Then this book just might be for you!
This isn't the storytelling or character development I expect from this author. This will be the last book I purchase, as her writing style appears to have shifted in recent works. ✨✨ Storyline: 📙📙The book was filled with smut, smut, and more smut. I skipped an entire chapter and still encountered more smut. Only in the final quarter did we finally delve into the story and elements we expect from this author. It felt as though the narrative only took off just as it was coming to an end. At times, it seemed like another character from a different series she had written was influencing this one, as some lines were replicated verbatim. It might have felt different had it been penned by an author who customarily uses smut to progress their story, but it truly seemed out of character for this one. As someone who appreciates a bit of smut alongside a storyline, this was unsatisfying for me. Intimacy Level: 🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒If you enjoy 75% smut paired with some storytelling, then this book is ideal for you. Character Building: ➷➷I did not perceive much character growth in the latter half of the story. Honestly, it felt as if these were entirely different characters compared to the first book. HEA: Yes Overall View: ✨✨This is not the kind of narrative and character development I've come to expect from this author. While it's a solid smut book, had it set that tone from the very beginning, I would have rated it 4 stars as that would have matched my expectations. However, transitioning from the first book to this one felt like encountering two distinct stories, and I found myself confused at times, needing to reread certain pages to grasp the context. In conclusion, I recommend anyone who enjoyed the first book to read this conclusion but approach it with the right expectations and stay with it until the end. It improves.
Rhys was an absolute dick to Remi for most of the book (might sound terrible but it was so good 😏), but Remi our young silversmith finality stood up to him and gave him the reality check he needed.
I would love to eventually have more of the side characters stories . Please 🥹
I don’t get this book. I normally love her work, but this book reads like a mashup of plot lines from her other books.
Spoilers!
Why wasn’t Illeron dealt with after he was caught on video admitting to nearly murdering his sister and framing Remi for it? Months go by and he’s free to terrorize Remi gain. Rhys seems like he changed and then does a complete 180, as if the last chunk of the book didn’t happen. The plot reminds me way too much of Ryder and Synthia in the far chronicles, with a bit of the Chaos books mixed in. Some characters in this book are nearly copy and paste replicas of characters from other books. The plot is disjointed and there are so many inconsistencies.
Remi’s father swears to hurt Rhys if he hurts Remi. Rhys states: “She’s a part of my soul. I cannot hurt her without hurting myself. I ensured it to be so when I claimed her.” That is so not the way he’s treated her through most of the book! There is no explanation for Rhys extreme changes in character. He hurts her a lot!
He freezes her funds, apologizes for it, then keeps them frozen while she’s out on her own pregnant with their child.
When Rhys grovels to Remi at the end to get her back, it didn’t feel deserved. He was awful to her and doesn’t deserve her quick acceptance of him and his apology.
I don’t understand why it’s brought up that Remi is actually immortal: “No one other than Winchester knew I’d been forced to become immortal by my mother. She hadn’t told the others.” Then towards the end of the book she tells Winnie that she’s not sure if she’ll live long enough to become immortal. So many inconsistencies.
This book started off with potential but then it’s choppy as if many changes were made during the writing process that weren’t kept track of so it jumps around and creates plot holes. It gets repetitive. It reminds me too much of Ryder and Synthia from the Fae chronicles.

It has been 4 long years since the first book. I was so excited when Silverproof damsel was finally announced! I also love the surprise release. I was happy to get an ending for Rhys and Remi. My favorite part had to be when Remi finally said her peace to Rhys. I was mentally cheering her on. I needed more grovel though. He needed to spend more time begging for forgiveness.
The other part is there is a lot of copy editing needed. Many sentences were obviously missing words and there was one spot where a small one line sentence was done twice but worded differently like she couldn’t decide which one to use. This felt very hurried and needed another round of editing.
I love me some Amelia Hutchins; LO9R is one of my favorite series, ever.
This book, however, gave me whiplash. I know that she writes “assholes”, I really don’t like Rhys in these books. The first 5% and the last 10% are the only plot driven, original parts. Everything else is just: I hate you and want to make your life miserable, no I have to have you and you must be with me, get away your mother ruined my life, but you are all I need, and then back to get out, I will never want or love you.
It could have been so much more and I am disappointed. 2.5 from me and that bothers me.
I’ve been a longtime fan of Amelia Hutchins and absolutely loved Silverproof Damsel. Amelia has a special way of creating intense characters and emotionally charged moments, and I’ve always admired her storytelling. That said, Bulletproof Damsel didn’t quite land the same way for me.
Like Queen of Chaos, this book felt rushed. There were quite a few repetitive lines and dialogue that echoed her past books, which made parts of the story feel recycled rather than fresh. The pacing was off—major plot points came and went quickly, and the ending felt like it just happened out of nowhere. The epilogue didn’t offer much closure and instead left several loose ends and unanswered questions.
While I enjoy steamy romance, the amount of smut in this book took over the storyline. Remi seemed to be constantly turned on, which started to feel overdone and distracted from the emotional depth and character development I usually expect from Amelia's work.
I know Amelia has had a tough time recently and is juggling a lot of projects. I respect her hustle and passion, but I wish this book had been given more time to develop. There’s still a lot to love in her writing, but Bulletproof Damsel felt like it needed another round of edits and a bit more patience before release.
Still rooting for Amelia, but hoping future books get the time and attention they deserve.
This book was absolutely awful. I don’t know how I finished it. There was not one single plot line in the entire book other than the main characters whiny immature repetitive disposition. I think they repeated the same five sentences 3 million times throughout the book. The writing was super clunky. I don’t even know what the point of writing this wise. It could’ve just been a second epilogue to the last book. I thought this series was gonna be interesting because I liked the world in setting behind it all, but alas, it ended up just being an absolute dumpster fire to read.
minimal spoilers ahead ... I struggled with how to rate this. Amelia is my favorite author so I hate to not give this story five stars. I re-read bulletproof right before this because Amelia had given the heads up that silverproof was coming in her FB group. I just can't fathom how Remi is written for the first half of this book. She was such an independent badass in the first book, and then in this book she gets treated like ab-so-LUTE garbage by Rhyse for the first half of the book and still gets it on with him whenever the occasion arises. For me this just didn't jive with the first book. I enjoyed the second half of the book a lot more than the first. Authors need to strike a delicate balance for the readers with their male characters when they are assholes - and in the first half I think Rhyse was taken too far into the asshole spectrum, he was emotionally and verbally abusive multiple times towards someone who in the end he claimed to have been in love with at that time? it just doesn't jive. I have read many enemies to lovers books and this one doesn't sit right. I couldn't just ignore what an unfathomable d bag he was prior to the second half and just say oh well all is forgiven, he does actually love her after all. Calling her a poisonous whore repeatedly earlier in the story had that one fall flat for me. I am glad for the HEA and I am glad this book was a duology (at least in terms of these two MC's). I hope being done this one allows Amelia's creative juices to flow for some of the other series we are waiting on.
No one can write this crazy and incoherent but still draw you in so good. Rhys is such a dumbass which makes it a little irritating to read.
In the middle of the book when Remi moved to Rhys she is suddenly praising him in the sky about what a gentlemen he is. Must be the hormones.
A large part in the Onyx wing takes place inside her head. A lot of fever dream like monologue. I felt detached from the story and her character. Mood swing Rhys feels like an unstable partner not fit for the job.
The ending, after Nyota was saved, seemed better and written completely different. But still Rhys made a childish mistake again which caused her more sorrow. Only to say alllll the right things in tge end. End was 3 stars but rest of the book 2 i.m.o.

The book starts out, and even runs great… right until you hit the chapter for 2 Months Later. Then it reads like the draft for a third book. Suddenly it’s quickly summarized and wrapped up. There are a few surprise last minute character who die within a page or two. Some themes that never play out, and some things that are mentioned but then never come to fruition/are forgotten? Yes that is a question mark and it’s on purpose. I can honestly say it’s a good book and I enjoyed it. However, it’s not what I have come to expect from this author.
This sucks!! Waited all this time for this ending and this is what we get. Author and I use that loosely these days added so much fluff and kept repeating stuff over and over. She took a strong female character and made her weak. Don’t get me started on how I feel about taking parts of one of her other series and using it here. The vibes of this story felt forced. I used to buy all of her books and that will cease thanks to this. I will buy what is left of the nine realms but no more books after that. Such a waste of money and talent or should I say the potential.
Holy shite! What is this sorcery?!! Good gods, the depth of emotions I felt while reading this book - from absolute rage to tear filled eyes with joy and every range in between.
This book is raw and exquisitely beautiful at the same time. Did these characters beat each other up? Yea, they did. But they were able to rise above the hate and rage and find some joy and love. That’s what draws me so deeply into Amelia’s books. The true enemies to lovers, the hate to love, the deeply raw emotion and the undeniable attraction no matter how hard they fight one another. Her characters have depth and emotion that oozes from the pages. Rhys is truly an alpha asshole hell bent in his revenge; but his sweet soft side, when he allows it is kind and glorious to see. Remi is a bit naive and feels the world views her just as weak as her mother has made her feel. But she rises from the ashes of the torment, gives zero fucks and takes no prisoners. She is loyal to her friends to a, sometimes, detrimental fault. But that’s the way she is built. She only wants to be loved for herself and not be taken advantage of or used. The strength she shows is utterly amazing.
I thoroughly devoured this book while barely coming up for air. Amelia’s worlds just have a way of sucking me and sinking its teeth in to the core. The story moves quickly and, like book 1, is teeming with incredible action and drama. Along with more secrets revealed.
𝑩𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒇 𝑫𝒂𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍 and 𝑺𝒊𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒇 𝑫𝒂𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍 are amazing read that I recommend to anyone that loves dark fantasy, true enemies to lovers, plots that are deep, dark, depraved and toe curling spice!! Along with every other book Amelia has written 🥵 SERIOUSLY - Read 👏🏻 The 👏🏻 Books 👏🏻
75% of the book is sex, leaving a mediocre space for the story arc. Heroine repeatedly walked over by a man who sexually abuses and threatens her constantly, but it's all alright because it's only because he is emotionally damaged so all is forgiven. What message is this book sending women?????
I have no idea what I just read. It was a hot mess. In short, the heroine is naive and pathetic. The hero is a despicable asshole. The storytelling is sloppy. It seems like the author spent a day writing this or the publisher accidentally published the outline.
I keep doing this to myself. I liked the Nine Realms (still unfinished) series (okay it was years ago, unsure if I would still like it now) but all other books I've read by Amelia have been sort of awful. I need to stop trying.
The writing is insufferable. SO repetitive. The same ridiculous language over and over again. In this series particularly, the worldbuilding is nonexistent. I have no idea what's happening, there are too many characters to keep track of, and so far it's just the FMC (Remington) being pregnant, hunted by someone, and arguing with Rhys (the MMC). Rhys is crazy and it's not in a fun way or even particularly dark. He wants to protect Remington but also hates her and disowned her but also wants her back and wants to hook up with her but also thinks she's stupid. It's annoying and chaotic. and again NOT IN A GOOD WAY. It's not tense and drama filled and whatever this was going for - it's unreadable and makes absolutely no sense. Entire paragraphs are just mumbo jumbo. Ok, I'm going to stop there. I don't recommend and I'm not sure what the point it...
😅 The word-vomiting that comes out of Remi is beyond hilarious. And at the crazy pace it does too. She just can't help herself and it's absolutely hilarious to read, its even disturbing at times. I never get bored with her banter, especially when Rhys is close in proximity 😂 Then there's always the following.."Sh*t up, Remington!" Cracks me up each time. It's a little too late for that darling Remi 🤣 Love this FMC ❤️🤣 I cannot get enough of her.
Remi is too soft for this cruel world, filled with immortals. Too nice or actually, too naive. And someone is taking advantage of that fact. Like a certain, Van Helsing. And she's totally addicted to said Van Helsing. Never mind how its the worst addiction she could have. I mean, I get it the incubus is..🔥🥵 but at the same time, he treats her like trash. His mood swings gives us whiplash. One second he's all over her, the next he's throwing her out and making fun of her. RUDE! Makes me want to throw my Kindle all the darn time. He better grovel the a-hole. Beg her for forgiveness, redeem himself, plead on his knees and worship the ground she walks on! He doesn't deserve her and he knows it too. Anyway.. Enjoy 🤭
I was truly excited about this book's release, as I have always been a huge fan of this author. Her writing style is unparalleled, and I've cherished every one of her previous works. So, it pains me to say that I struggled with this latest installment.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the beginning. Despite my best efforts to engage with the story, reading just a page at a time, setting it down, and trying again—I ultimately had to give up. I found myself searching for other reviews, wondering if I was alone in my disappointment.
The shift in writing style and character development was jarring. I had to reread sections just to grasp what was happening, but it felt disjointed and confusing.
I know the author has faced challenges in her life, which I empathize with, but this book lacked the vibrant energy and connection that I have come to love from her work.
☹️It's a sad moment for me as a devoted reader, but I hope that she will find her way back to the brilliance that has captivated so many of us in the past.
Amelia came to us once again with the banger of all bangers.
I have no idea how to exactly explain what sort of addiction I have to Amelia's books, but whew.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. Rhys is a sweet asshole baby. He's swoony one moment and the next, you're cheering on Remi for having boundaries and sticking to them until the big, bad Alpha backs down.
Rhys has a mouth on him, and jeeeze 🔥.
if you loved LOT9R and Fae Chronicles, you're going to love this duet. it's fast-paced, action packed, full of snark and cruelty, but mixed with some sugar and spice.
🏍️ Enemies to lovers (I don't just mean they were enemies for a bit. I mean they're enemies). 🔥 Snark and hilarious banter 🏍️ pregnancy trope 🔥 deceit and political intrigue 🏍️ who did this to you? 🔥 Morally Gray MMC 🏍️ Badass FMC
thank you so much to Amelia and team for the ARC. This might be my newest favorite Amelia book.
Firstly, thank you Amelia for a chance to review an e-arc. This duet had me in a chokehold!
- Dark Romance - Fantasy / Supernaturual - Witches / Demons - Enemies to Lovers - Family Rivals
Remi has been rejected by her "mate" in front of not just her enemies, but her family as well. She not only just had to end the life of someone she thought she cared about - But has to deal with losing the other half of heart for a past, she wasn't even a part of. While Rhys blames Remi for his past, Remi has a future she has to look forward to. A future she has to concentrate on for the sake of someone else (no spoilers here guys).
But with enemies coming out of the woodwork for a creation that Rhys & Remi completed with their love, Rhys needs to put his pride to the side & be the man that Remi fell in love with. But of course he needs to make it up to Remi first. Rhys' brothers even are rooting for him to get back with Remi, but can Remi ever truly forgive Rhys for blaming her for a past mistake he made and she had nothing to do with?
This book was full of growth and compassion. Remi & Rhys truly had to face their past demons to move forward in not just their own life, but a life they deserve to have with each other.
4.5/5 stars with 3/5 steam.
I have tried my best to keep this review spoiler free. Please read this duet in order.
Four stars for this book. I have read both, but I will review the second one and say something about both in general. The FMC had a bit of Aria vibes. Remi was too forgiving, which is something we cannot accuse A.H. FMCs of being that often. She is a bit on the weak side. People wrote that Rhys is horrible, but have you met Knox? He was also a bit different from what we are used to when it comes to her books. Her guys don't come around until book 3 at least! The magic was interesting, but I needed more of that. The explanation in the end was a bit confusing for me. The book has spice, but you know that if you read her books. Four stars from me because of the plot in book 2. There was not much of that compared to the spice; however, A.H. is back to writing and we are excited, so let's not be harsh. I am hoping to see Aria and Knox's ending, the second book of King of the Shadow Fae, etc.
Not only is this duology just a more condensed version of LOT9R, and I mean copied concept, romance, characters, phrases, everything, but it’s very poorly written. As are the authors other books. Which I have enjoyed regardless of the constant typos and lack of editing. The book’s phrases are repetitive. Leading to many eye rolls. There was so much written description of the dang Onyx wing, but a rushed and lack-luster ending. I can not believe she fit what she did into the last 10% of this book. Very rushed. I should have known this book was going to be disappointing after reading the first, but I’m a glutton for punishment and wanted to know how the story ended. Now that I finished this series I guess I don’t need the ending to LOT9R. I hate that I’m so negative about this book, but everyone who rated it highly either didn’t really read it or hasn’t read LOT9R.
