Throughout my life I have had a fascination with bears, and "Grizzlies in Their Backyards" was a fascinating novel to read! Set in the early 1900s, British Columbia wilderness, Beth Day's book tells the true story of a courageous couple who abandon city life for the rugged coastal BC wilderness. Amongst descriptions of the duo's wonderous yet often brutal adventures, author Beth Day also includes much knowledge about the lives of grizzly bears in Canada. Day writes with great talent, providing Canadian west coast scenery descriptions that paint clear images and also describes various individual animal behavior, allowing a feel for each unique animal personality. Grizzlies in Their Backyard relates the lives of 2 intrepid pioneers, who live hard but incredible lives in the Canadian wilderness. As an adventure novel or an information source, Beth Day's "Grizzlies in Their Backyard" is a joy to read!
I really liked this book. I go to Glendale Cove and that Area every summer and I'm a huge Grizzly lover. When I read it I really wanted to go to that house of theirs. Unfortunately it's further into the Woods than you might think, and therefore it is very dangerous. But one day I Will definitely visit what's left of the Stanton's house.
Some very interesting stories about some very interesting people. I couldn't help but disagree with the actions taken on several occasions.. But a Good read for anyone into reading about pioneer days, bush life or wildlife.
