“The conquerors forced them out through blood and dragonfire.”

Three hundred years ago, when all was lost, the Druids stifled their own magic to choke out the enemy’s dragons. But now they need them to fight on their side, and Aiya Velanyon is the key.

Try as she might, her dragon eggs still won't hatch. She's given them her blood, and all the magic that she has to offer. In spite of that, they remain dormant, glowing with the quiet promise of ancient beings that have called out to her since she was born.

Agrona, who had once masqueraded as Aiya’s friend, is reeling from the loss of the dragon eggs. But who-- or what-- is she, and what is it that she truly wants?

"Just as the dragons are in your blood, the forest is in mine.”

Draven Arthmael spent his entire life protecting the rolling hills and deep forests of Glenmara. He's no stranger to the monsters that lurk in the shadows; creatures that most will only ever see in the most harrowing of nightmares.

But something ancient in the forest is awakening. The veil between realms is thinning, and danger unfolds by the day. Can he protect his people from what’s to come, when the shadow of myth bleeds into truth?

I absolutely loved this book—just as much as the first—and once again found it impossible to put down. From the very beginning, the story is action-packed and balanced beautifully with a strong romantic plot that kept me completely hooked. This installment continues following Draven and Aiya as they navigate the life they’re building together, and I really enjoyed seeing their relationship deepen as they confront more complex emotions and challenges.
We learn significantly more about Draven’s backstory, as well as the druid and the world surrounding them, which added depth and richness to the narrative. The character development felt natural and meaningful, especially as the story explored heavier, more emotional themes. Like the first book, this one delivers its share of heartbreak—sometimes painful, but always impactful and well-earned.
One of my favorite elements was the use of the Gaidhlig language. At first, I was a bit unsure about not having immediate translations, but I quickly realized how intentional that choice was. Since Aiya herself doesn’t understand the language, it allowed me to experience that same confusion and immersion right alongside her. The inclusion of a glossary and translations at the end was the perfect touch and made the experience feel even more thoughtful.
Overall, this is a fantastic continuation of the first book, expanding the world, deepening the characters, and raising the emotional stakes. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next and am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

ARC REVIEW. No spoilers here, you NEED to discover all the feels for yourself!

HOLY CRAP! I NEED book 3 NOW!

Coming off of Book 1- A Wlidfire in the Grove, expectations were high going into Book 2 and I was not disappointed.
Heartbreak that can be felt while reading is real and the tears I shed whilst reading and still do when thinking about those moments just, well it just...
Esmeray Sultan has created a series that invades your mind, with characters you relate to and truly care about. The way you are pulled into the lives of these characters, the emotions that are drawn out and just laid bare, WOW!
I literally could not stop reading this beautifully written book, I think I only slept for 4ish hours since starting it because I needed to know what happened next.
I don't know if I can ever get past some of the heartbreaks, fears, signs of truth, love and the building of friendships that are more akin to family. I would say I will try, but this book mimics real life in so many ways that it may not be possible.

Please do yourself a favour, get a box of tissues, some snackies and immerse yourself in the wonderful world that I can not wait to be brought back to (hopefully soon)!

Honestly I loved this one more than the first one and I liked the first one. The emotions are raw and definitely felt each one while reading. so many things happen and I just love how relationships were developed. I did like some of the different povs. The timeline is a bit fast paced with quite a few time jumps but that's ok. Each character is very well described. That ending though!!!! When is the third one coming out????

I loved this book! It felt real.. I really liked the fact that for once our main characters have to work for their food and clothes. The interactions between characters felt real, the day to day life too!
I'm sad about the horse... devastated actually:((.

Aiya is settling into life among the druids, frequently alone because Draven is out protecting the village. I loved when the dragon eggs finally hatched! Aiya had an immediate change to her personality, like a mother would to protect her children. The action was non stop. The story is an epic adventure.

Thank you for the early copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.

The second novel in the druid and the dragon queen series is full of twist and turns to keep you on your feet. Esmeray really captures the scene and emotions of each setting and character. The relationship between the fmc and mmc really blossoms as the story progressed. Over all I can not wait to see what this series leads.
