The Chaos We KeepBy S.C. Howard

Multi-POV romantic suspense where trauma gets trigger-happy and exes shoot first, ask never.

Stella’s Officially-Unofficial Breakdown, Also Known The Book Summary

So. Doc. You’re here to help me unpack my shit? Fantastic. Buckle the hell up and prepare to be wildly underqualified.

Here’s the I went to Celeste’s estate for our usual “girls’ night”—which, in our world, means tactical gear, whiskey, and possibly hiding a body before dessert. She’s mafia royalty. I’m her best friend with enough emotional baggage to get charged extra at the airport. Our version of self-care is target practice and rage baking.

Everything was supposed to be fine. And then someone decided to crash the party with a f*cking tactical hit squad. One of them brought a rocket launcher. A motherf*cking rocket launcher, doc. To girls’ night. Who the f*ck does that? Pretty f*cking rude if you ask me.

They weren’t just aiming for Celeste. They were hunting. Spreading through the house like ghosts with gunpowder breath and bad intentions.

And in the middle of that chaos? Him.
Rian Murphy.
My ex. My ghost. My unfinished symphony of sex, secrets, and spectacular betrayal. We haven’t spoken in five years—not since he vanished like a coward with a jawline. Now he’s back. In my line of sight. Wearing black tactical gear and that same haunted smirk like it’s part of his goddamn uniform.

So I shot him.
In the leg.
On sight.
Therapeutic, really.

Now we’re knee-deep in blood, smoke, trauma, and mafia secrets that could flatten entire bloodlines. There are knives. There are secrets. There’s enough emotional damage to keep your therapy office booked for the next decade.

This book?
It’s not just my story.
It’s a confession.
A love letter to chaos.
A “f*ck you” to closure.
And maybe, if I don’t bleed out first, a roadmap to what happens when you mix vengeance, heartbreak, and tactical dogs.

You still taking notes, doc?
Because shit’s about to get worse.

And I brought snacks.
And a knife.

🔥 Exes with unfinished business and excellent aim
🔥 Girls' Night meets John Wick
🔥 Dogs that kill. Trauma that bites back.
🔥 Mafia intrigue, blackout rage, and emotionally weaponized banter

Trigger warnings? Yes.
Chill? Absolutely not.

If you like your romance toxic, your women feral, and your men bleeding for redemption, welcome to the f*cking show.

S. C. Howard knocked it out of the park with their debut novel Ghosted!

I stumbled across this gem on my FYP today on TikTok, and I am so glad I did. What first grabbed my attention was the character art (I mean, hot ginger with Celtic ink and a gorgeous badass woman? Yes, please). Then I read the video slides, and I was hooked. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down.

The banter and wit are fantastic. The back-and-forth between the FMC and her bestie reminds me so much of myself and my own best friend. The only difference is we’re not quite as amazing - or deadly - as these fictional besties, but that’s half the fun of reading!

This is a multi-POV book, and while some POV shifts happen toward the end of chapters, they’re well placed and build perfectly into what’s coming next. The pacing flows naturally, and every switch feels intentional and adds to the story.

⚠️ Note: This is an adult-themed book with adult content warnings...so definitely not one for younger readers.

If you loved The Ruinous Love Series, Harley Diamond, Rook & Rebel, or How I Accidentally Took Over the Mafia, then Ghosted needs to be at the top of your TBR.

I honestly just could not finish this. The writing style is all over the place. I wanted to like it so bad.
