She came home to escape a scandal—only to confront the grief she never dared face. Two years after her husband's tragic death, Clara Hayes returns to Martha’s Vineyard, where the sea is restless, and the past is louder than ever.
Once a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, Clara’s world implodes when a high-profile malpractice case forces her into an unwanted sabbatical. Seeking solitude, she retreats to the weathered beach house she and her late husband once dreamed of restoring.
But the island isn’t quiet. It whispers of unfinished love, family wounds, and truths long buried. Reconnecting with her estranged sister, Evie, and Jack’s former best friend, Daniel—who harbors secrets of his own—Clara is forced to choose between clinging to who she was and discovering who she might become.
Set against the salt-swept charm of Martha’s Vineyard, The Edge of Yesterday is a deeply moving story about love after loss, the courage to start over, and the healing that only home can bring.

I voluntarily read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book of two sisters reconnecting after years apart and so much going on for them both. It's how they faced their problems and learned how to be there for each other again. Really enjoyed it!
This book was about two sisters, each grappling with some heavy duty issues. I thought this was another really good book! Just as good as her most previous one. It was intense at times and also had some sad moments. I liked Clara and Evie’s stories and how they grew as the story went on. It was a hard to put down book!
After a long back list of series romance books, Kimberly Thomas has turned her talent to women's fiction. In my opinion, her last book -Queen of the Orchard - and her newest book would be considered women's fiction - a literary genre characterized by stories centered around women's experiences, emotional journeys, and personal growth, often exploring themes of identity, relationships, and overcoming adversity.
Clara is a world renowned surgeon who goes back home to Martha's Vineyard after a high-profile malpractice case forces her into an unwanted sabbatical. She grew up there but left after her beloved husband Jack died two years earlier. When she left she stopped all contact with her sister. Instead of offering peace and solace, her house brings back many memories of her husband and the happy life that they shared. Eventually she begins to communicate with her sister again and with Daniel, her husband's best friend and begins to find a more peaceful life. But life doesn't get too peaceful as she continues to fight the hospital that she had dedicated her life to and now finds out that they are giving her no support in the malpractice case. Can she solve the mystery behind the case before the hospital totally discredits her and her accomplishments.
There is a dual plot line with Clara's sister Evie who owned the islands most popular bakery. The mayor of the town wants to buy the bakery and other nearby stores to sell the land to someone who wants to put in more up to date businesses destroying the nostalgic stores associated with the town. The mayor tries all kinds of underhanded ways to put Evie out of business. Will she be able to keep her bakery and will the sisters become close enough to fight the mayor together?
The descriptions of Martha's vineyard were so well written that you could almost hear the waves and smell the salt air. I love stories about sisters and both of these sisters were well written and believable. Clara is fighting dual demons - her grief over her husband's death and her fight in the malpractice case. Evie is fighting to maintain her life on the island without losing the bakery that she loves. This is a deeply moving story about loss, finding the courage and strength to start over and learning to accept happiness again. They say that you can never go home but for Clara, home is where she was able to find happiness and peace in her life with the help and love of her sister.
