Good to the Last Death #14

Semi-Charmed Midlife

Rate this book
Welcome to my midlife. It’s a hot mess. It’s complicated. It’s hilarious. And, if I’m not careful, it’s going to kill me.

The entity in charge of everything—and I mean everything—has lost Its ever-loving mind, and it’s up to me and my nearest and dearest to fix it. This deity is dangerous and out for blood—my daughter’s included.

So, we’re going after it before it comes after us. I’ve called in the troops, and we’re ready to rumble.

My ride-or-die?

Hotter-than-Hades Grim Reaper. Check

The three people who can potentially defeat the Higher Power?

Daughter who’s six months old but looks twenty. Check.

A human-ish best friend with too much Botox. Check.

Eight-inch magical cannibal. Unfortunately, check.

What could go wrong? I refuse to answer that question. So far, I’ve had a chaotic yet wonderful midlife, thanks to a fair amount of luck. But with end of existence is at stake, it’s going to take more than a semi-charmed kind of life to win.

I’d really like to live the rest of my midlife in peace… not pieces.

Every book is a cliffhanger…

And they keep getting shorter. This one only had one LOL moment. While the crew is back (Daisy, Tim, Gideon,Jennifer) they’re stuck in a loop from book to book. I hope the next one is better.

Robyn Peterman is clearly determined to make sure midlife never, ever calms down, and Semi‑Charmed Midlife is another gloriously chaotic reminder that peace is a myth and sanity is optional. Our heroine’s life is still a hot mess — complicated, hilarious, and one wrong move away from killing her — and I loved every second of it.

The entity in charge of, well, everything has officially lost Its ever‑loving mind, and now it’s gunning for her daughter. Absolutely not. Over her immortal, midlife‑exhausted body. So she gathers her nearest and dearest and prepares to rumble with a deity who’s forgotten how to behave.

Her ride‑or‑die?
The hotter‑than‑Hades Grim Reaper. Check.

The three people who might actually be able to defeat the Higher Power?
A six‑month‑old daughter who looks twenty. Check.
A human‑ish best friend with more Botox than blood. Check.
An eight‑inch magical cannibal. Unfortunately, check.

What could go wrong. She refuses to answer that question.

This installment is everything I adore about the series: fast, funny, heartfelt, and wildly unhinged. The stakes are massive, the humor is razor‑sharp, and the emotional beats land exactly where they should. Peterman balances absurdity and heart with her signature flair, delivering another supernatural midlife adventure that’s impossible to put down.

She’s had a semi‑charmed life so far, but with the end of existence on the line, she’s going to need more than luck to win. And honestly? I’m rooting for her every step of the way.

As always, this series wouldn't fly without Jessica Almasy. She makes all the crazy work. If this narrator isn't dripping in awards, she well should be!

This specific book is disappointing to me as a long-time reader because I just want the story to END. I am enjoying it, but not the way the author drags it all out. I know the author is capable of ending a series because that's what she did (clunkily) with the Cecily Bloom series. [That one was all wrapped up in an epilogue.]

The first two chapters in this are exactly the same as the last 2 of book 13. What a waste of pages/audio time.

I'm getting tired, y'all. This little bits of nothing strung out between trivia contests is not my jam. And I still don't know who Xander and Catriona are, other than capable soldiers.

The reveal of the new 3rd of the trinity was nice, though. If you wondered about that thanks to the cliffhanger at the end of abook 13, skip to chapter 3 and get going. The character is delightful in the role.

Other than that, I'm in the awkward position between wanting to give up on the series but feeling a real end has to be here soon. Right? RIGHT?!

From surprises to laughs and pure emotion

First, the dedication is the bestest! How to start reading a Robyn Peterman book with a huge laugh… and continue laughing throughout.

Is Candy Vargo still cussing "politically correctly”? What about the massive hook we were left with in the previous book? What in the world will happen with the horrible Higher Power? Will It get what It deserves?

So many questions, and all answered, with huge amounts of laughs (on our end), a lot of emotion, and action aplenty!

Brilliant from start to finish!

The zombies and fake, evil Tom Hanks made this a rough read.

My opinion of this book is skewed. For some stupid reason, I thought that this was the final book in the series (which it's definitely not). So the further I got into the book the more anxious (and confused) I became about how there wasn't possibly enough time left in the book to wrap up the entire plot of the series. Then I got frustrated and complained to myself that not much of anything happened in this book (as far as big plot points) before reminding myself that that's not true, the big reveals just seem smaller when you're expecting a book that has events so big that they wrap up the series! So... this book would be perfectly enjoyable if you read it as another regular book in the series and not a huge ending that wraps up everything. My lower amount of enjoyment was my own fault for having unrealistic expectations of this book.

Hmmm - so I'd honestly give this a 3.5. Lots of repetition - like how many times do we need to know that June makes cookies? Or that Candy Vargo loves Gram and was getting scolded again by her?

It's was almost like the author was giving us catch up content for every other chapter. A couple of battles and things around the Higher Power along with it's designated replacement. But this book was a ton of saying the same thing over and over and over again.

I love all the characters in this world (obviously I'm 14 books in now) so I'll continue just for the sake of finishing the series. I just hope the next book offers a little more and is more like the writing at the beginning of the series.

Amazing ride as always!!!

Robyn Peterman nailed it once again!! Every single one of these books in this series is incredible, and this one follows suit!! I am hanging on a ledge, waiting for the next one. Unfortunately there's a glitch with the links and pre-order is not live yet but looks like it will be soon!! I hope this series is here to stay for a long time to come, as I have grown to adore the characters! I have never left as hard as I have with her books, nor have I ever been so invested in an author! Everything she has written is pure gold in my opinion. On that note, happy reading!!

Another win!

I love the craziness that is the Good to the Last Death series by Robyn Peterman. This latest installment takes everything to the next level. The worst part is I really can’t tell you much more without spoilers! Just know that Daisy, Gideon, Gram, Mr. Jackson, Candy Vargo, Tim, Charlie, June, Jennifer, Sh—-Ritchie, Alana Catherine, demons, angels, and so much more are waiting to make you hold your breath and laugh out loud!

OMG 😲

When Daisy screamed, I nearly did too!!

Being left hanging, nasty, but oh so wonderfully evil 😂😂

Alana is growing up WAY to fast, literally.

Jennifer finding out who her dad is. Any guesses??

A wedding unlike any before.

The love and devastation of losing the one you love, but not by death.

Can't wait for book 15, already pre-ordered.

These books are flipping brilliant ❤❤❤

Wow!! Hilarious

This book had all the feelings it was laughing out loud funny, there was some sadness, and some beautiful moments. Ms. Peterman's imagination took us on a journey in this book. I love this and how the characters and the scenes are written so I can see everything happening as I read. I have a ton more things to say but I fear I will start giving away all the good stuff. A must read!

This story will make you laugh out loud. Daisy and Gideon now find out who the third in the Trinity is and what a surprise that is. All three of the Trinity must be protected in order to save the world. Jennifer finds out who her real father is and, again, what a surprise! Gram gets married. Demons help protect everyone against the Higher Power. That's all I'm going to reveal. This story has danger, action, humor and many surprises.

I love the series but it feels like Robyn is rushing to pump out content and not fleshing out stories and dropping cliff hangers just to keep numbers. They’re almost like short stories now. I’d prefer if she would flesh out something more and take her time and give a better story. Perhaps too much pressure from having too many ongoing series. I love them all though. Just don’t want author burnout and quality drop for quantity.

Crazy, exhilarating, fun and so much more

I love this series, filled with laugh out loud moments, yet peppered with love, understanding, acceptance and loyalty.

All the Candy Vargo cursing, Higher Power megalomania, loved up Daisy and Gideon stolen moments and ghostly Gram shenanigans you’d expect and a good few surprises too.

semi I charmed Midlife: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel: Good to the Last Death, book 14

Well I was quite surprised with many of the occurrences in this book. Quite a few surprises but if if you have fooled the series it still has violence, nasty words and thoughts but surprisingly many true human feelings.

As much as I love these books, Peterman needs to wrap up the series. It's getting really repetitive and I hate that the first two chapters of every book is the exact same as the last two chapters of the one before it. The only reason I keep going is to listen to the reader, Jessica Almasy. She is a gem and a delight.

So much good…and bad!

There’s an awful lot going on in this installment. Lots to smile about - including some new characters - but also lots to be upset about, and that ending… I can’t wait until the next book comes out!
