I absolutely devoured this book and fell in love with Bailey & Wes! But their story is also full of so many struggles and yes, it did make me cry my eyes out at least once. Their banter is so good from the start and I was eating it up. She is so freaking sassy and I love that energy, especially directed towards Wes. They are exactly what the other needs and seeing them come together had my heart happy.

Audiobook:
Narrated in dual by Helena Walters & Sean Masters and I think they were perfect choices for Bailey & Wes!! I could not stop listening and they brought these characters to life! Would definitely recommend the audio!

Bailey and Wes

I received an ALC copy of this. This is the second book of the series can be read/listened to as a standalone but I would recommend you read/listen to the first one. I'm going to let you know from listening to this I'm a new listener to this series and author and now have a list of books to check out from her because there are characters from other series which I read a review that Bailey appeared in a different series so there are crossovers. Any way I enjoyed listening to Bailey and Wes's story, the narrators did a good job.I found this funny and entertaining from the beginning with them and the sparing and bantering, the friends and their jabs, the chemistry between them explosive, then there is some heartfelt moments as both are dealing with issues from certain points in their pasts and reunions.

I listened to this through BookFunnel courtesy of Home Cooked Books.

Ughhh Wes & Bailey were breaking my dang heart. These are 2 very broken people that end up needing each other and falling in love.

I was LIVING for their banter and the sass that Bailey consistently gave Wes. She just didn't know that he loved the sass. They definitely were in sync when it came to *spicy time* and the spice was sooooo freaking hott. 🥵

I do feel that the ending was a little rushed. I would have liked more moments of them happy and in love.

Overall, it was a heartwrenching love story with a hard earned happy ending. I'm SOOOO excited for Parker & Lily.

Scars of You is a profound look at grief, trauma, and the healing power of love. As the second installment in the Amity series, it builds beautifully on the world Madi Danielle has created. I highly recommend reading the first book to fully appreciate the depth of these characters. Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The story follows Wes and Bailey, whom we first met as secondary characters. Their history is messy. One night years ago left Bailey harboring a deep resentment toward Wes, leading to years of explosive tension and constant bickering. However, as the layers are peeled back, we see two people struggling to stay afloat. Bailey’s journey through grief, trauma and her eventual realization that her small-town friends are her true found family is deeply moving. Wes, an army veteran, struggles with the weight of a mission gone wrong, and his survivor’s guilt is portrayed with incredible sensitivity.
The "push and pull" dynamic is expertly paced. Their banter provides much-needed levity, but the heart of the book lies in their shared trauma. The mental health representation is some of the best I have read, making their intimate connection feel earned and authentic. The third act is particularly heart-breaking and provides a raw look at the reality of living with a traumatic past. It was a joy to see Jameson, Sutton, Lily, Parker, and Jerry Lee again. This is a beautiful, "heals the soul" kind of story. Please check trigger warnings before reading.

This is book 2 in Danielle's Amity series and the first I've read/listened to. This book deals with some very heavy issues, so please be aware of triggers before delving in. So, our main characters are Bailey and Wes. These two not only have a shared history of a seemingly one-night stand but also share friends and are neighbors so really, there is no escaping each other, especially when the chemistry is still there. They deal with it in the most childish ways - by getting on each other's nerves (classic). The narration for the audio version was great. The narrators did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life and depth to their lives bringing out emotions that just reading doesn't quite get thru in the same way. I also loved that both our main characters had some heavy trauma in their lives that they were both dealing with which both pushed everyone away and drew each other together. I loved the steam and kink level, and the support Wes gave so freely to Bailey. The humor that the talking bird delivered was much needed and a great relief from some of the depth. So much to love about this book and yet it was filled with hurt and heartbreak too. A tale of survival that thankfully ends happily! Definitely looking forward to reading/listening to more from Danielle.

This book was given to me for free thanks to HCB and I voluntarily provided this review.

The hold these two broken souls have me! They are both so broken and have traumatic pasts, and it was such a beautiful journey to their happily ever after. The 3rd act had tears flowing, what a heartbreaking look into someone’s reality.

Bailey and Wes despise each other and everything they do grinds the gears of the other. I loved the flow and pace of this book, the enemies to lovers timeline was perfect. It never felt rushed or forced. When the tension finally snapped the h8 smashing had me blushing and questioning my own preferences. I loved how they showed they truly cared before their feelings were shared.

I loved the side characters in this book. Jameson and Sutton of course were amazing. We get a glimpse into Lily and Parker, and I have some theories on how their story will pan out. JERRY LEE, my all-time favorite bird with verbal diarrhea. Meeting Bailey's family has me moving her Denver Dragon's hockey series up on my TBR!

Helena Walters and Seas Masters narrate this book, and they did a phenomenal job bringing this story to life! I recommend an immersive reading of this book, especially if you'd like to take a trip out of our own reality!

Thank you Madi Danielle for the advanced copies! I love this town and these characters so much! Can't wait for Lily and Parker’s story!

WOW this book gave me some amazing banter but it will also take you on an emotional ride! This was the first book I've listened to by Madi Danielle and I was really impressed with her writing style. I loved these characters along with the side characters. You will also have a blast with Jerry Lee the bird that just says whatever he wants. I was laughing so hard when that bird was in a chapter.

The narrators Sean Masters and Helena Walters did a fantastic job telling this story. They held my attention and kept me entertained the entire time. I couldn't have asked for better narrators.

Bailey and Wes had a night together three years ago and now they are neighbors. Bailey is sassy and because of that these two will have such amazing banter and chemistry. Even those these two don't see eye to eye at first they are a lot more alike them they know. They both have trauma and anxiety but as time goes by they start to see each other in a different light.

This is an emotional book and there are a lot of layers but through everything you'll find beauty. I was laughing so hard, smiling like crazy, swooning, getting emotional but I was left with a wonderful ending. I definitely look forward to the next book in this series.

Thank you Madi Danielle and Home Cooked Books for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.

This is my first experience reading Madi Danielle and I was not sure what to expect tbh, but I was hooked on Scars of You from the very beginning of this book.

This is the story of Wes and Bailey. These two are neighbors and unfortunately they do not seem to get along with each other.

Wes, is ex-military and is dealing with a lot of not only guilt and survival but he’s dealing with the men in his unit that were left are no longer living. He has a lot of PTSD and pretty much prefers to be alone.

Bailey, on the other hand, is dealing with her own issues. She has grief from how she was raised and due to this situation, has pretty much distanced herself from her siblings. She feels seeing her again would be triggersome.

Wes and Bailey had all this bottled up tension between them just begging to come out or they would explode. Their push-and-pull was done perfectly too. Wes loved to get under Baileys skin and they had the perfect amount of banter too.

I think what sets this book apart is part is the trauma. They both had shared trauma, all be it different, that helped them have a more intimate connection and bond. They helped each other through it. They felt raw and it was beautifully done.

Helena Walters and Sean Masters were fantastic in this audiobook. Helena is newer to me but I thought both were excellent showcasing not only the raw emotion but the banter as well. Sean also did great showing Wes’s different sides with the gruff tone at times.

Highly recommend this book.

The literal perfect way to start off 2026! This was my first ARC of the new year and I fell in love with the story line and the characters from the beginning. I read this book in 24 hours because I couldn’t put it down and was completely sucked into the story.

Wes and Bailey could not be more perfect for each other if they tried. Two broken souls who escaped to the small town of Amity to start their lives over again. Wes, who was running from his demons and PTSD from war, and Bailey who was running from the very traumatic childhood she had. Both of them found comfort in the small town, but didn’t realize the real comfort they both needed was with each other.

Their backstories were heartbreaking and watching them overcome those demons and face their fears had me balling my eyes out. My heart broke for both of them. But watching them love each other, take care of one another, and support one another through all of the darkness was a literal fairytale.

And their chemistry!? Off the freaking charts! The spice was spicing in this one y’all and I was all here for it. I also really loved that we got to spend a few chapters with Bailey’s family who are from the Denver Dragon series that I also loved!

This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last! I did enjoy this one, but at times I felt like I was missing something. As I said this is my first book, but this is the second book in this series. I think maybe reading the first one first I would have had more of a connection to some of the characters.

I think this review is a more of a me problem than the books problem. I did enjoy the book! The narrators were super good! They made it able to get locked in and in the zone, where I think if I was reading it in my own it would have been a much longer read. I could see myself doing a re-listen of this one after I read/listen to the first book.

This book did have me laughing at times and then feeling all the feels! The author did a good job at balancing the heavy with some light. This book does deal with heavy topics. If you like content warnings make sure to check them out!

Overall it was a good book! One that I would recommend! I will be reading more from this author for sure!!

So if you’re in the mood for close proximity, alpha hero, ex-military, neighbors to lovers romance look no further.

SCARS OF YOU by Madi Danielle was the second book of the series. I enjoyed Wes and Bailey story and their one night from three years ago turns into a neighbors to lovers romance. The mental health aspects are balanced well. I really enjoyed the dynamic between them the push and pull they have. The connection they form from a shared understanding of trauma and anxiety.
Bailey was sweet and reclusive. She was full of sass with Wes that made the chemistry and banter fun to read. Wes was wounded in so many ways after being forced from what he thought would be a life long military career. He was all hot and alpha when it came to smex neeeing the control. This is filled with emotion, love, spice and healing together. If you love animals you have rescue pups and a bad mouth cockatoo and they are always fun.

Dual narration by Sean Masters & Helena Walters. 9.5 hours long. Both narrators did an amazing job bringing out Wes and Bailey’s emotions, feelings and personalities.

People aren´t broken, just bruised.
Scars of You is the epitome of the healing power of love.
The book covers the story pf Bailey and Wes - two different people, but with so much in common beyond the surface.
While Bailey struggles with her family trauma and the scars left in her heart, Wes fights his own demons and his own mind with survivor´s guilt from his time in the military.
They both are scared of showing weakness and vulnerability.
They bicker constantly and get on each other´s nerves, but the rush they feel while doing it, brings life into their cold hearts. Their story unfolds in a beautiful way and you get to witness their walls coming down and love finding its way back to them.
Madi Danielle deals with heavy topics on a deep level, but balances it out with the wit, banter, spice and romantic gestures.
The message of this book is clear:
When you find the person who not only allows you to be yourself without secrets, but also heals every part of your soul, don´t let go.
A beautifully written story full of love, heart break, scars, trauma, unconditional support and spicy moments that will make you blush and swoon.
Thank you for the ARC.

ALC & E-ARC REVIEW
5 stars

man oh man.. I’m not sure I would have rather spent my Christmas Eve night with anyone else than these two.

I’ve been craving Wes & Baileys story since book 1 (Embers of You) in the series because they are truly enemies. any time Wes comes around Bailey has something to say about it. Turns out these two are neighbors, and they actually have spent the night together- once- years ago.. but that’s not going to change the fact that Wes- drives Bailey crazy.

When the tension finally snaps, and the possessive side of Wes breaks free- yall better have a fan blowing on you because it is HOT HOT HOT.. and I loved every second of it.

Both the MMC and FMC are struggling with some pretty deep issues they will have to over come, but I love how the author let them over come them together. They leaned on each other after they gave up fight one another. It truly was such an amazing book that I think everyone will find the perfect amount of all the things you are wanting to feel!

Madi doesnt even disappoint!

I am at a complete loss for words. This book was beautiful, heart-wrenching, and so beautifully written.

You have now arrived at your destination, Amity, Washington.

Bailey Collee is a successful business owner with a troubled past. She had a traumatic childhood, and she’s since been running from her past because she thinks everyone else is better off without her in it.

Enter Wes, the bane of her existence. He’s her next door neighbor who is an Army veteran with some severe PTSD that will just take your heart and twist it. Him at the dog shelter? The sweetest ever!

There’s some serious tension between these two and they couldn’t be more perfect for each other because they both know some of the darker sides of life, in their own ways. They are able to really be there for the each other when they need it most. I think Danielle did such a good job writing about some difficult topics that the reader could really feel.

And then there’s Jerry Lee saying, “Shut up, Vern!” Who is Vern?! Haha

ARC Review

Oh. My. God. I have been looking forward to Bailey Collee’s story since first hearing of her in “The Hat Trick” and Madi Danielle did NOT disappoint. These characters grabbed my attention even further in book 1 of the Amity series, but wow. Getting to know each of them on a deeper level and seeing their trauma unfold was utterly beautiful as much as it was truly heart breaking. The tears that I shed were from deep inside and tore me apart. I had anticipated some parts of this story (as one can do with a romance novel), but - Madi’s path of taking you there is anything but what I expected.
I love these 2 characters deeply and completely, and their own discovery of what a family can be.

I cannot praise this book enough. I have loved everything I’ve read by Madi Danielle, but I’ll be surprised if she can top the love, heart break, trauma and pure filth that this book delivers.

Enjoy!

Gahhhhhh my whole heartttttt it's on the fritz. It was laughing, then melting, then breaking before melting after being put back together again. Wes and Bailey were so meant to be and I loved watching them fall in love.

Both of these souls were so broken, but in each other they found the missing pieces. Wes in particular hurt my heart. What that man went through both in the past and in the book was absolutely shattering... (please check your triggers) I was so happy Bailey was able to pick him up because I wouldn't have survived any other outcome.

Their happy ever after was sweet as pie though and omgggg I can't wait to read Madi's hockey series. It's been on my tbr, but after this crossover I have some major FOMO.

The audio was fantastic. I absolutely loved Sean Masters and Helena Walters in this one. They brought these characters to life so perfectly. Thank you so much to Madi Danielle and Home Cooked Books for the advanced copies!

Dual narration - Sean Masters & Helena Walters
I always love Sean Masters he is truly talented. Helena was perfect in this book I really enjoyed her performance.

This was so good. I loved the comfort and love that Bailey found in Wes. And the support that Wes find in Bailey.

These two are neighbors and do not get along. Wes loves to get Bailey revved up and the banter is sooooo good.

Bailey is dealing with grief and has distanced herself from her family feeling they are better off without her. Making friends in this small town that she finally realizes they are also part of her family.

Wes is dealing with survivors guilt after a military opp goes wrong and he looses friends in the accident.

They find what they need in each other. There are also dogs in this book and you can’t go wrong with dogs!

Dual Narration by Helena Walters and Sean Masters

Tropes:

Second-Chance Connection

I was hooked on Scars of You from the very first chapter. This book explores heavy themes with emotional depth, and the tension between Bailey and Wes was perfectly done. Their push-and-pull dynamic, combined with a shared understanding of trauma, created an intense and deeply satisfying connection. Their chemistry between them was explosive, but what really stood out was how they supported each other through their personal struggles. Their bond felt authentic, healing, and earned.

Helena Walters and Sean Masters was phenomenal. Both narrators brought so much emotion and nuance to their roles, making the story even more immersive.

I am a new reader/listener to Madi Danielle books. I am excited to dive into her backlog of books!

Scars of you is the second book in the Amity series. Even though it is a standalone I would recommend reading the first book in the series. You’ll get glimpses of Wes and Bailey’s story there, plus a better introduction to the recurring characters who pop up throughout the series.

Wes and Bailey hooked up 3 years ago, and both haven’t stopped thinking for that night. They become neighbors and both act like they don’t like one another. They keep getting thrown together in various different ways. Until they can’t stop being around each other.

Please check your triggers, this books handles heavy emotional topics, but was done beautifully.

I received an ALC for this book- and both narrators did a great job!

Thank you home cooked books for allowing me to listen for my honest review.

I fell for both Wes and Bailey so fast from all the banter they gave us! I loved them in Embers of You but their book was top notch banter! This woman was pushing his buttons so hard bc she knew she’d get a reaction from him!

But Wes was a big old softy at heart for the people he cared about. He was especially a big ole softy for Bailey. Man knew how to take care of her inside and outside the bedroom, even if he didn’t think he deserved her.

It took the 3 years to finally cross the line again but these two needed each other in every sense of the word. The hurt and comfort in this book made me want to hug both Wes and Bailey so tight.

Thank you to Madi Danielle for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

ARC Review | Scars of You by Madi Danielle

Huge thank you to Madi Danielle for sending me an ARC of Scars of You.

This was such a beautiful, emotionally rich story. Watching both main characters navigate their complex PTSD—individually and together—while trying to find their way to one another was handled with so much care and tenderness. Their healing wasn’t rushed, and the growth felt raw, honest, and deeply human.

And listen… throw some dogs into the mix and I’m already halfway gone, so that absolutely didn’t hurt. 🐶

All in all, I really enjoyed this one. It left my heart full in that soft, bruised-but-healing kind of way—and I will be starting book one of the Amity series immediately. Like, right now. No notes.

Thank you Madi for this ARC🫶🏻

Bailey and Wes are neighbors who hooked up 3 years ago but have been strangers since. Wes is a former military pilot that struggles with PTSD. He’s avoiding love and attachment because he thinks he’s weak.

Bailey came from a rough upbringing and struggles with her relationship with her family. She and Wes reconnect through their mutual friends leading to a hook up relationship. After some time, they become more. Wes’ mental health threatens to break them apart.

I loved the shelter pups and appreciated the PTSD representation in this story! Check TW! I’m so glad Bailey and Wes found their happy ending! 🐶🌻

I received an ALC of this book and absolutely loved it. I knew I was going to be all in for Wes and Bailey after reading Embers of You, and I 100% was. This book touches on some heavy topics, so definitely check the trigger warnings before you read, but I was so emotionally invested in Wes and Bailey’s struggles and thought the blend of spice + emotion in their story was PERFECT.

While you could absolutely read this book on its own, I would recommend at least reading Embers of You first so you can get more background before picking this one up. You can also read Madi’s Denver dragons series before to get even more!

I love the Amity series so much and cannot wait for the next book!

I loved this story so much, there was so much healing for both the characters who had very hard and dark pasts. This story hit strong on ptsd for both characters and how they both came through and healed each other slowly. This starts off as an enemies to lovers second chance romance. The spice was great in this story and both narrators did an absolutely amazing job bringing these two characters to life.

Bailey and Wes’s story was one of growth and challenges between one another. I loved how the vulnerability was given to a MMC with his past with the military and PTSD. I wished the growth may have happened a little earlier in the story but enjoyed how it was written in the end. Really captured me and pushed me to finish this story. Bailey’s story was a little hard to bond with just because there was little to with on her past but I enjoy a fierce FMC and stubborn as well.

I knew these two would be fire! But scorch me what a hot enemies to lovers!!

If you read embers you know these two have been more hate than anything. But one night they did more than hate. And Wes has decided he wants what Bailey makes him feel. Even if he has to provoke her to get it. But can they overcome their past and accept they may be just what the other needs?

These 2 are beautifully broken but perfectly whole together. I really enjoyed this one.
