She was supposed to be a background girl. He made her the center of his obsession.
Anjanae never meant to catch anyone’s attention, least of all Pavel Volodin. Cold. Quiet. Lethal. He watches her from the shadows at Aethelburg Academy, always too close but never saying a word. When she stumbles too deep into Bratva secrets, he doesn’t warn her. He takes her. Chains her safety to his and drags her into a world of power plays, blood, and control. Pavel was forged to protect the Bratva’s future, not to fall for the soft girl with fear in her eyes and iron in her spine. But Anjanae’s silence says too much. Her tears break something in him. Her obedience turns him savage. What starts as survival turns into fixation, and what begins as control ends in ruin. She is not just his responsibility anymore. She is his weakness. His problem. His girl. And when the Red Crescent comes for her, Pavel will show them exactly what he was built to do.

This is the 2nd book I have read by this new author and I liked both main characters, however, the story arc did not flow well. It would have been a better reading experience if the ✍️provided more explanation of the red crescent earlier in the story. Additionally, the MFC on the cover is a woman of color, but she is consistently & bafflingly described as "pale skin' in almost every other page of the book😨- It was quite disorienting. Despite these issues, I rated the 📗4 stars because Pavel, the MMC is an alphalicous, monstrous viper with strikingly cunning, strategic skills who unalives enemies with surgical precision!!! I also appreciated the growth of the the MFC - Anjanae coming into her own warrior stance , so they have the enhanced ability to effectively defend each other in their fight against the enemy. The story has an unfinished vibe as it ends on a HFN!
