Fairy Hearsed

In Mistbrook Manor, crochet and coffins make the perfect pattern for murder!

Lyra Moore has spent years keeping a low profile in Orchard Hollow. Sure, she’s a fairy, but she much prefers running the Mistbrook Manor Funeral Home to getting tangled up in magic. Unfortunately, trouble seems to have a way of finding her—especially when it involves the dearly departed.

When a retired librarian is found strangled with silk yarn in the middle of the local crochet club’s weekly meeting, everyone is quick to call it a tragic accident. But Lyra’s gut tells her otherwise, and her cursed, talking cat Theo (who has far too many opinions) agrees. The victim had just uncovered a long-lost crochet pattern rumored to hold a valuable secret—and it seems someone was willing to kill to get their hands on it.

With a town full of nosy shopkeepers, bickering club members, and one particularly attractive fae prince getting in her way, Lyra starts unraveling the case one thread at a time. But when another body turns up, things go from bad to worse. It’s clear the murderer isn’t ready to cast off their deadly plans just yet.

Between dodging magical mishaps, keeping her fairy identity under wraps, and avoiding a complicated dating life, Lyra has her hands full. Can she untangle the clues before the killer strikes again? Or will she find herself stitched into the next crime scene?

Crochet can be deadly who knew?

Loving this series! It’s about a group of morticians who take it upon themselves to investigate odd deaths that the police may not have caught as crimes in their small towns. Lyra is a fairy with very unique magic who fled her home and a forced engagement/marriage and stumbled upon these people and this group who have quickly become her found family. In this installment Lyra has a lot of plates in the air. She’s trying to figure out her wonky magic with no one to confide in as she’s the only fairy in this realm besides that pesky fiancé who’s turned up. She’s got a new case that is perplexing and two men her aforementioned fiancée who’s trying to convince her to return home and Finn a human who she finds alluring but is hesitant for a few reasons. This story is a little wacky, a lot entertaining and the mystery is very well done! Stands ok alone but better if read in order for context to the issues and world building, plus more fun stories!! Definitely recommend giving this one a try!

Fairy Hearsed is the third book in Sage's Mistbrook Manor series. While the books are interconnected, this paranormal cozy mystery can be appreciated on its own.

Lyra Moore is a fairy who fled Fairy in order to escape an arranged marriage. She now lives in Orchard Hollow and runs Mistbrook Manor Funeral Home. She is also a member of the Grim Wardens, a secret society of undertakers who solve crimes.

When Lyra accompanies her friend Ellie Blackwood, another member of the Grim Wardens, to Tangled Skeins, a yarn shop in Orchard Hollow, she meets members of the crochet club including Sylvia Plumwell. Lyra is shocked when Sylvia's body is delivered to her mortuary, shortly thereafter. Lyra isn't too certain Sylvia's passing was an accident. As a member of the Grim Wardens, it is no surprise that Lyra jumps into investigation mode. Why was Sylvia at the shop at night when it belongs to Lillian Everwood? What was she doing? And why does it appear she might have been strangled with silk yarn?

In this book, Lyra gets a little help from the very handsome Finn O'Malley, another member of the Grim Wardens, but also, quite unexpectedly, from Rhyven. Rhyven happens to be the Shadow Court Prince to whom she was betrothed, and the reason why she fled Fairy. What exactly is he up to? Why is he being nice and helpful?

I quite love the world Sage has created. If you haven't checked out her Orchard Hollow series yet, I would encourage you to do so. It takes place in the same small town and I love that there are characters we met in the Orchard Hollow books that make appearances in Mistbrook Manor books.

I am quickly becoming as big a fan of Lyra Moore, as I am of Piper Addison. Sage's characters may be paranormals but they've also still quite relatable. I love that they are quirky, and often clumsy, and have big hearts. There's always more than meets the eye. In this book, Lyra solves the mystery but she also delves further into her portal magic abilities, and we learn a little more about Rhyven who might not be as originally thought. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series. Lyra is a fun and likable character and I'm curious what will happen now that we have a potential love triangle in the works.

I highly recommend checking out Sage's works. If cozy mysteries aren't your cup of tea, she has a slew of fantasy novels as well.

When I see a cozy paranormal that interests me, I am almost obsessed with getting my hands on it. This series started that way, and I was happy to see this third book in the series. Lyra is a fairy living incognito in the human world to avoid her arranged marriage, but he showed up trying to woo her. However, she’s already established herself and doesn’t want to go back…especially because of Finn. Anyway, this is another mystery that she and her group solve by trying to get justice for their funeral clients that might get overlooked. While I wasn’t exactly sure of the villian’s motives, I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. Fans of this series will definitely like this latest in the series. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
