Along with Dan Murphy, Jane and her dogs Shady and Tahoe are hiking the Pacific Coast Trail when a series of earthquakes create emergency conditions. Jane will answer the call to assist a rescue operation–until she and her companions become stranded only to find they have become the object of someone’s twisted hunt.
Finding their way through the High Sierras, Jane, Dan and her dogs will join forces in a struggle for survival against nature and those seeking ill advantage in its mayhem. Here, with nothing but herself, her dogs, and the man that loves her, Jane will face the God of nature and men who pervert his justice. Here she will race to find answers before the ground beneath her gives way and the world around her crumbles and explodes.
Eduardo Suastegui has loved to daydream since he was a child. With formal education in math and science, affirmed through hands-on engineering experience in designing, building, and integrating gadgets of varying complexity, that daydreaming fed technological innovation. On the side, it also fueled artistic expression.
Of late that daydreaming has engendered stories about hackers, rogue AIs, and space travel, with more than a few stories about a dog trainer and her military K9s sprinkled in. Rumor has it he may even have a Western or two in him.
Eduardo loves to dive into fast-flowing, character-driven stories. With each of the books he reads or writes, he hopes to continue that adventure. For him, a great story is one that moves ahead, but which also moves you. More than anything, through his writing he hopes to connect with readers and so share a piece of himself with those who pick up all that daydreaming turned into written words.
This is the last book I will read in the series. Great writing, interesting characters but I read for entertainment and I do not find the death of dogs entertaining. Third book of the series, two dogs have died and a quick look at the next book indicates another one dies in that one as well. My personal motto for books with main characters that are animals is that the author can kill off anyone in the book except the dog/horse so I'm done with this series.

I don’t like being forced to sign up to an authors website when I’m already paying Kindle to be able to read this series. This book should follow after The book titled Rover. Well there is a book in between that you can only get if you sign up to the author’s website.
There seems to be a lot of information that occurred in the in between book such as the loss of Shadow, the marriage of Jane to Dan and the loss of getting on the Olympic shot put team.
Jane has a lot of issues and without that in between book, I can’t track what’s new. I won’t continue reading.
I liked the story, kept me intrigued from start to finish. Better than the 2nd book which was better than the first. I still am not sure that I can visualize Jane, I don’t like her grammar, it grates on me and I find it disrupting. I like that she’s strong, understand that the PTSD drives her much of the time; I get that the bilateral prosthesis/amputations also have caused complex emotions and while I’m not an expert I have a medical background and come from military life so the instability and emotional pendulum are realistic. I guess she’s growing in me and I’m headed to the 4th book, bad grammar and all.
I gave this book a 4 rather than 5 because of the poor, if not nonexistent, proofreading! "chin instead of shin", "dosing instead of dozing", "riffle instead of rifle", just a few but you get the point. Also, to me, the use of "ain't " is way overdone for a woman with a college degree in English Lit. and an Army Major. All said is a distraction from a really good series, which I'll continue to read.
The best so far in this series outside of the initial confusion on where Tahoe came from and what happened to Shadow. The author loves to confuse you by leaving out the details to then later give you the facts that straightens thing out. An unusual style of writing that would normally cause me to stop reading but because my wife has already finished these books she is helping me figure out what is going on which keeps me interested in the adventure.
Love this store so much, & how Jane finally realized how much Tahoe was just like Showdow, his dad . its so amazing how dogs can read your mind by looking in your eye and feeling just how you are feeling. This is such an amazing story , I always love reading awesome stories about dogs and their handlers. How close they are , but its so amazing how they stay strong throughout rough times. Cindy Riley
A truly beautiful story. It is inspirational to all disabled readers. I have seen improvements in prosthetics in the last twenty years. The story is ful of drama intrigue and humor. Many unexpected events in the story leave the reader guessing, often inaccurately, as to what comes next. Well written and definitely a book that I can recommend to other people.
I really love this author. He's a great storyteller. Jane and Dan are married and on a delayed honeymoon hiking the Pacific Coast Trail. They run into some trouble, her legs are stolen and then find out they were set up by the government to find out who's trying to steal the intelligence. She gets new improved legs. Intrigue follows .
Word of advice, when the going gets tough in this one don't hold your breath!
I was so deep in this one I about fell off the couch when I ran out breath! Dang, gotta feel for them when all the carp hits the fan! Fell in love with Tahoe!
The story line kept me from putting my tablet down. I didn't want to leave the action. I am looking forward to reading the next book. I hope it is as gripping.
The story was good but I didn’t like how there was a big jump from #2 and #3. I would have liked to to read all the in between stuff. Filling in the blanks here and there was not good. Hopefully #4 doesn’t jump so far ahead.
Such a good read although I did think that there was just too much time taken over the 'search'. The characters, humans as well as dogs were well portrayed, the dogs were a big part of the whole, the courage, loyalty and deep bond were very touching.
This is the last book in the series I will read. The subject matter is interesting, but the struggle for the main character is sad and disturbing. War is horrific.
Very good. Love this series. It is inspirational and informative. Love to read about working dogs. Also highlights the incredible sacrifices both our soldiers and 4 legged soldiers make for us.
Tahoe-1 (Tracking Jane Book 3) by Eduardo Suastegui is a page-turner. It continues the story of Major Jane McMurtry, now Murphy. She and her husband Dan and her dogs Shady and Tahoe are hiking the Pacific Coast Trail when their lives are turned dangerous with forces of nature and evil men taking turns plaguing what was to have been their honeymoon.
It is a compelling book. Jane is adjusting to working with Tahoe and beginning to think he is Shadow's offspring. I gave it four stars. It needs some editing for homonymns.
"Without saying a word, Dan and I trade leashes. Tahoe and I take the lead. He pulls me ahead and it's like Shadow is there. A leaner, younger, ungainly version of him, down to the dark, almost black coat. I focus on that, wanting to believe he is Shadow. I quicken my step to keep up."
