Traveling from Springfield to the frontier, Caleb at twenty years old, and his newly married wife on seventeen years old Nettie find out just how dangerous and hard traveling what seems like the endless plains on their way to the promised land on the western frontier. While traveling the endless plains, they get separated from their wagon train which ends up being attacked leaving them on their own for hundreds of miles in hostile territory finally making their way to Fort Laramie in the Nebraska Territory.
Shortly after arriving at Fort Laramie, Caleb agrees to scout for the fort while providing a means of living and housing himself and Nettie. Young Caleb Miller, known as the orphan kid, wanted adventure as well as Nettie for a wife. He was alone at a young age and used to hard work. It was 1857 and people were headed west for land, opportunity and challenge itself. Caleb and Nettie were filled with dreams; joined a wagon train; and problems ensued. This is the storyline, and I loved it. They met up with Cheyenne who hated whites, Arapaho who weren't nearly as threatening, and those that would steal a horse right from under you. Life had its hardships every day. This is a great read, and I loved it.
After a few months reading the 21 book series of Grizzley Killer comes, Caleb & Nettie. This author continues to weave actual places into the tapestry of his stories so well you feel you are on the plains or in the mountains with the characters of his books. You think you’d know these fictitious people if you were to run into them in a history book or in a museum. Looking forward to the rest of this series.
Another fantastic book. The start of a new series. Action packed, fear, love, laughter, doubt, happiness, intreging. Draws you in from start to finish. You don't want to quit reading. Thank you, can't wait for the next book.
Very well written and enjoyable book. Thanks for sharing this book with us and our family. Keep inserting facts about the frontier geography. This puts more vision in the context and more awareness of our history.
Another amazing read from Mr. Warenski. All the exciting elements needed for a fantastic read. I predict this series to be as successful as Grizzly Killer. Highly recommended.
