You first met Chad Rogers and Chloe Atwood in Florida Heat, now you get to read their story.
Old family ties broken, childhood pain healed and true love revealed—one step at a time.
One phone call sends Chad Rogers back to the one place he’s been avoiding—home. Being at his mother’s side after she is shot, he faces the younger brother who tormented him during childhood and his ex-lover, Chloe Atwood.
Chloe Atwood is engaged to a family friend. Chad Rogers steps back into her world, spinning it off its axis. She sees him in a new light this time around, leaving her to question if they can have a future together.
Living her own romance story is what inspired Jody to write romance novels because it was never her dream to become a writer. Jody left a job opportunity in a different state because she met a man and fell in love. After losing her real-life law enforcement hero of nearly 30 years, she is finding her way back to the world of writing romance.
Based on her life’s experiences and journey, Jody lives by the belief, “We may not understand why something happens, but the higher power does. And he has plans for us that we don’t know about.” In short, this is Jody’s life—met a man and got engaged after knowing each other for three months, having to leave a job and become a stay at home mother, become a writer and published author, surprise four-year post-vasectomy baby, and the untimely loss of her beloved husband. It is after each event that she would learn the purpose as to why they happened. Although, Jody is waiting for the reason to present itself on the last loss.
Jody spends time at the soccer field watching her youngest and favorite MLS team, the Minnesota United FC, play. In her youth, Jody enjoyed reading V.C. Andrews' the Dollanganger series (starting with Flowers in the Attic), S.E. Hinton, and Stephen King to name a few. As an adult, her list of authors and choice in genres have broadened.
Jody and her husband were lucky enough to travel to the Bahamas and Florida, and drive through many states on their way to Quantico, Virginia. They took their three children on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. She has also visited Montana and Cancun, Mexico. All of these experiences have inspired her stories.
TEXAS TWO STEP by Jody Vitek is a fast moving story full of suspense, intrigue, kidnapping, conspiracy, and romance. Chole Atwood, one of the main characters is from an influential family working as the development director for a women’s shelter in Dallas, Texas. Chad Rogers, the other main character, is also from Dallas, but years earlier he leaves town for reasons only he knows and refuses to come back - not even for love. Readers are given the backstory of both Chole and Chad and how they met when Chole was visiting a friend in Florida. Vitek creates support characters both good and bad and provides the backstory on each as they enter the fast moving story.
The author builds intrigue when she put the reader inside Chole’s head so they can see and feel her experiences. Vitek builds action and suspense and increases the momentum of the plot. Dramatic action unfolds at the shelter. An estranged husband enters the shelter demanding his wife leave with him. Chole is visiting Linda, the director of the center, and tries to stop the man from leaving with his wife. In the struggle the estranged husband pulls a gun, Linda the director pushes Chole to the ground to keep her from being shot. The director takes a bullet. Chad’s sister calls and tells him their mother has been shot and is in the hospital.
Readers are in the middle of all the action. Nothing has been able to bring Chad back to Dallas until his mother has been shot. When he returns to see his mother, he runs into the one person he did not want to see, Chole Atwood. He is still in love with her. Fate brings them together again.
Chole’s family is pushing her to change her career and are not supportive of her decisions. Her fiancé is acting strangely and becoming possessive. She is also upset that Chad has come back Dallas the day before her engagement party. Chole senses she still has feelings for Chad. Vitek keeps her readers on the edge of their seats as they wait to see how events unfold. The story is a great mix of intrigue, suspense and people getting a second chance. A good read.
When Chloe Atwood’s co-worker, Linda is shot, the last person she expected to see by Linda’s hospital beside was her ex-lover Chad. Two years previously, they had met in Florida, but in the few weeks they spent together proved they were more than friends. Chloe returned home to Texas, they continued to talk on the phone, but when Chloe asked Chad to come to Texas he refused, not giving any explanation as to why. Did their relationship end due to Chad’s lack of openness and honesty? Or, that he never really loved her? The longer Chad stays in Texas, the more Chloe realises, feelings for him still lingered. She wasn’t over him. The only problem is Chloe is now engaged to someone else. As this wonderful story of true love, broken families and lies unfolds, we find that Chloe has more problems to worry about, when she becomes a victim herself. Praise to Ms Vitek, this story had me riveted from the start.
This book is the perfect mix of second chance love and a suspense romance novel. You get to meet to super handsome and lovable Chad Rodgers and his family, including his adorable mother. Then we meet Chloe Atwood who has a less then satisfactory fiance and her family is sometimes very questionable on their support. You also get Maggie and Trenton who have their own book and even though it was before this book you still get the urge to read their story. This book has kidnapping, a couple shootings, and stolen money. It's all mixed in there along with finding the love that you want, and finding the happiness you deserve. This book pulls you in from the beginning and it keeps you there until the end. Definitely a book you should read.
This is the second book of the Texas girlfriends series and you could read them separately but, you will not want to miss one minute of this amazing series. Jody's characters are strong and sexy. With a story that will keep you turning the pages well into the night. Chad met the love of his life but, couldn't face the demons from his past. Chloe moves on to someone she thought she knew but, things change and the past and future collide. Very suspenseful and will hold your interest for hours.
Returning home presents lots of conflict for Chad Rogers. Family and an ex-girlfriend stir his emotions. You can never go home? This time it's a good read and never isn't never. This is a Texas Girlfriends book, second in the series so I was really glad to see these characters from book one. If you like a romance, you'll like this Texan romance for sure.
