Like Clockwork: Borrowed Time

Rate this book
In a gear-driven desert city where time is god, Ettrin Alavaster is the great imbalance. Born with a savant-like ability to solve equations he puts the skill to good use by leading starving outsiders in to the city through its clockwork underbelly.
However, when a chance encounter brings Ettrin face to face with a man claiming to be his idol, the legendary magician Ruloff Valisto, things get complicated.
All too soon Ettrin's infatuation with Ruloff entangles him in the heist of the world's greatest religious artifact.
Now, alongside a fire-eater, a mechanic, a budding magician and of course Ruloff himself, Ettrin sets out on an epic adventure across an analog world fraught with thieves, cut-throats, ancient machines fighting long-forgotten wars, and demons trapped in acoustic prisons. To make matters worse, they are pursued at every turn by a battle-hardened religious zealot under the control of an android headpiece that will stop at nothing to see the artifact returned.
When Ettrin finally discovers Ruloff's motivations for stealing the famed artifact he also finds the fate of the clockwork city may hang in the balance.
