This was a sweet romance. I was in the mood for a historical western after watching Mail Order Bride. Passionflix has it on their app and I hadn't seen it for awhile. Anyway, this really hit the spot. While it was a bit slow going it never lost my interest. It was definitely a slow burn romance and it took awhile for them to even consummate their marriage.

It had some old tropes with the heroine in danger, etc. Tho, she wasn't incapable, she could take quite good care of herself. The villain's received their comeuppance and well, the last one, I didn't see coming, how that was handled.

Anyway, I enjoyed this book and will definitely read the last one.

This was a nice story but had a slower pace. I like the author's Bride series better, her writing was more polished by then but this was still a pretty good book for a first book by an author. The story had nice details, it just could have been more exciting.

I picked this book for the cover. The story had good bones, but the pacing felt off. I would have like a little more slice of life, day to day. This book jumped from one thing to the next.
I appreciated the main characters tried to make the best of their marriage.. but it still felt off with Alina still carrying a grudge against Beau through the first 1/4 of the book, for their first meeting.

synopsis:
alina is sure that her father is still alive, but her stepmother gains control of her father's fortune and house. alina flees in fear of her life. she winds up in wyoming territory, working in a saloon as an accountant. on new years, she is mistaken for one of the girls who works there by beau. when beau realizes that alina is not what he thinks she is, he leaves, and comes back, repentant. alina does not forgive him, until her stepmother and stepbrother show up. at that point in time, she agrees to a marriage in name only until either her cousin comes to get her or her father returns alive. as alina and beau learn to live together in his house on the homestead he inherited from his brother, alina comes to appreciate the wild country that surrounds her. however, the settlers in the area have been having a string of bad luck, and it appears that no one is safe.

what i liked: the story. the characters were so well drawn. alina's faith in her father being alive, her relationship with beau and her cousin were wonderful. beau was so gentle and patient. i liked the feeling of being in the wilderness with them, with all the problems and all the triumphs.

what i didn't like: alina's refusal to forgive beau for what was an honest mistake, even though he kept apologizing didn't seem to be necessary.
