La Bete est Morts! republished in 1977 by Futuropolis., oversized (or 9 inches x 12) hard back Edition. The English hardback edition was released in 1985 and includes the introduction from a Dutch edition; a dedication from Uderzo and a monochrome selection of Calvo’s wartime and post-war cartoons.

With both Editor Victor Dancette and writer Jacques Zimmermann providing scripts, and beginning as early as 1941, Calvo began translating the history of the conflict into a staggeringly beautiful and passionately vehement dark fable, outlining the betrayal of the European nations by literal Wolves in the Fold.

¡Una auténtica joya! Un libro que toda persona debería leer y tener en sus estanterías.

Siempre es necesario leer y saber más sobre uno de los peores momentos de la historia de la humanidad, si además, lo hacemos bajo un formato tan original y cuidado, la experiencia es inigualable.

Reino de Cordelia ha sabido hacerle justicia a esta historia recuperada con una edición deliciosa. La narración es detallada, delicada y está llena de emoción y coraje. Pero sin duda, lo mejor es el dibujo minucioso, colorista y satírico.

Un ouvrage difficile à évaluer car on le lit pour la dimension historique et non pour l'histoire. J'en avais beaucoup entendu parler dans le cadre d'un travail sur la 2GM et particulièrement dans l'ouvrage de Didier Pasamonik et Joël Kotek sur la Shoah dans la BD et j'étais donc ravie de le lire car truffé de références qu'il est agréable de trouver. En revanche le récit historique (dans le sens réécriture de l'histoire pour forger un mythe national) est très lourd. Il illustre bien le mythe resistencialiste qui apparaît à la fin de la guerre avec la volonté de faire de tous les Français des résistants (ce qui était loin d'être le cas) et la quasi(absence) de la Shoah dont on ne parle que dans deux cases. C'est donc à la fois un récit qui n'en parle pas mais qui a aussi le "mérite" (ce qui est rarissime à l'époque) de l'évoquer même en ne parlant que de déportation et éludant la question du génocide.
