Shots of tequila in Mexico is the dream...Sipping tea in the Yorkshire countryside is her reality...
Sent to live with her cousin Elsie in the Yorkshire countryside, Rose has only one thing on her mind; joining her friends as a club rep in Mexico.
When she hears about a council incentive offering the promise of free flights to the person who clocks the most volunteering hours at the local care home, she’s got her plan set. But she doesn’t plan on bonding with the old ladies, going after the village bad boy and trying to persuade Elsie not to become a Nun.
Soon she’s questioning who her real friends are and whether her old life is one she wants to return to.
Can the village win her over and will she win the chance to leave it behind? Will she even want to?
Amazon Bestselling Author Laura Barnard lives in Hertfordshire, UK and writes British, quirky laugh out loud romantic comedy.
In her spare time she enjoys drinking her body weight in tea, cuddling dogs, matchmaking her friends, binging True Crime, dancing in Popworld, indulging in the power nap and reading past her bedtime.
This is horribly written, to the point when I- a novel completist- could not bear to read more than 25% before I quit.
Rose, that narrator, is 23 but acts more like 13. She throws fits, and is so emotionally volatile as to seem in need of psychiatric care. I got really bored about her simpering will-she-won't-she sleep with the local Bad Boy- which she does at the first possible opportunity. And regrets it. Maybe.
Chick Lit depends on likeable protagonists. Not only is Rose horrible herself, pretty much everyone she encounters is also horrible. Really, do not bother.
I saw this cover and thought ohh is this really a book for me? I have to admit the cover matters to me and I usually go for the more darker mysterious looking ones than the bright ones.I have a friend who always (well, alot of the times) reads books with bright pink, colourful covers and it reminded me of her! But when I read an excerpt I was eager to start it and see how it went. And as you can see, It went well ;)
“And it’s like my mum always said, be with a man that ruins your lipstick, not your mascara.”
This is the first book I have read by Laura Barnard and she is from England woop! I love it when I find new authors from England I'm all like I know an author that live kinda.. close by *pats back* LOL. I got stuck into this book and was looking forward to what would happen. There were a lot of things that I didn't expect and then there were others that were predictable such as certain things would come to light..it had to happen yet I was hoping it wouldn't.
Rose at the starting is a selfish brat and I thought I would end up hating her or getting really annoyed (that didn't happen though) , she doesn't know what true friends are and how family will always stick by you and how you should never let go of true love. She doesn't care for anyone's feelings at the start, she just wants what she thinks is best for her.As the novel continues she finds out that there is a lot more to the village and the friendships she has created here are ones that wouldn't use her or leave her. But in the end will she leave them?
“God, he’s hot. He’s making me stupid.”
We meet James before we meet William but as soon as I met William I was like yup that's the one I like! I do like a guy who is open with his emotions but I did feel at times he needed to be a bit closed. Is that weird? Haha I still really liked his character. The winking was odd but funny. And I really wanted James and Elsie to have their own book, I really want to know more about them especially James and the relationship between the brothers.
This book has a bit of everything, it had me laughing at some of the silly things Rose does, rolling my eyes, cringing, wanting to smack some sense into her and parts of this book also made my heart hurt. It's a fun book with a lot of heart.Oh and the fanny fart part was just hilarious!
*ARC provided by the author for an honest review* Thanks Laura! :)
I can't finish this book. I wanted to finish this book. I wanted to like it and think it was charming, and all of that other lovely stuff you hope when you pick out a book. Granted, this isn't the type of book I usually go for, but I recently had some success in the "chick-lit" genre with another book and decided to give this one a try.
Now, for the explaining portion.
I cannot stand Rose. The way she behaves is absolutely abhorrent. Yes, she's only 23 years old (cough cough), but that doesn't mean she has to be such a dick about everything. She keeps going on about how she isn't a blonde bimbo, but her actions kind of prove otherwise. Example: she doesn't understand why her cousin would want to be a nun, and doesn't respect that about her, and at one point even asks her why she's bothering with it at all. In addition to this, she has so far had no character development other than maybe changing her mind about the elderly a little, and starting to crush on Will, while being in a casual relationship with someone else.
The writing isn't the worst I've seen, but it's not the best either, and occasionally characters will do things for no apparent reason (like Wills winking. wtf), characters can go from hot to cold at the drop of a hat, and their arcs are boring because they're so slow.
“I’ve never trusted religion; all that stuff about heaven and hell. It always sounds like they’re threatening you, and I swear half the people attending church are only there because they’re terrified they’ll be struck down otherwise.”
“’No,’ I say as sexily as I can. I attempt a giggle, but it comes out more as a fog horn noise. Sexy. Real sexy, Rose. This is so much easier when I’m drunk.”
“God, he’s hot. He’s making me stupid.”
I really wish the church grave yard wasn’t across the road from the pub. Visions of a zombie Michael Jackson emerging from it and forcing me to dance clouds my head.”
“I’m stunned into silence, my mouth gaping open so wide he can probably see my tonsils.”
“And it’s like my mum always said, be with a man that ruins your lipstick, not your mascara.”
My Review:
This is one of the funniest books I have read in a very long time, I laughed so much I had to stop reading to wipe my eyes. Ms. Barnard’s writing is refreshing, sassy, crisp, clever, irreverent, self-depreciating, hysterically funny, and also quite moving at times. Beside the tears of laughter, I also had a bit of an ugly cry – she is a crafty one and got me both ways. A fantastic read from across the pond. I learned many new and odd sayings I hope to weave into my conversations like “I am so chuffed,” “playing silly beggar,” “bodge jobbed it,” “being on at me,” and curious less than complimentary words like wally, ta, weable, and slagging. I love learning new ways to be snarky. I enjoyed each quirky character residing in this little village, and would gladly bribe the author to write a complete book spotlighting each one, as I am not wanting to leave them just yet.
I really enjoyed this book, from the title it wasn't what I expected, but I was impressed all the same! It's set in the Yorkshire countryside (near me) and I loved reading the Yorkshire-isms... I love how the author kept the speak authentic to the area and didn't try to change it to make it main stream. I found this book to have a little bit of everything, laughs, emotion, betrayal and some downright eye rolling stuff ... It was brilliant. Rose is a 23 year old self-centred not so adult woman who is sent from the London outskirts to live with her cousin in the Yorkshire country side. All Rose wants to do is go to Mexico to meet up with her best friend who is already working out there. So when she finds out that volunteering at the local nursing home could get her that flight to Mexico she does everything she can to make sure she wins it. However through the course of this book Rose develops some relationships and a closeness to some of the villagers and leaving is harder than she thought it would be. I don't want to give too much away but this book tugged at my heart strings, had me laughing out loud and wishing I knew a lady like Betty!!
4 Star review of Tequila & Tea Bags by Laura Barnard
Audio Review:
Having read or listened to several books by Laura Barnard I was interested to listen to Tequila & Tea Bags narrated by Deborah Balm who is a new narrator to me.
I was drawn in by the blurb of this book and was excited to dive in. Deborah Balm dod a good job with the narration and I found her voice pleasant to listen to.
The characters were intriguing, although at times I was extremely frustrated by Rosie. She was self centred and annoyed me on numerous occasions. Although having said that her friendship with Elsie had me laughing a bit; I really liked Elsie.
Tequila & Tea Bags was a fast paced book that kept me entertained and was well written and performed.
This book made me cry with absolute laughter (especially the poo and Peggy part) and also made me cry my eyes out and gave me severe heart ache (Betty part). Really enjoyed it apart from I felt there was too much swearing when it wasn't needed.
I got absolutely hooked on this book. I liked how Rose was sent to live with Elsie due to her immature behaviour. I thought that I would not like Rose but towards the end I realised she was a little bit misunderstood and had never been loved properly.
I really liked Will as he was very intriguing as he was quite reserved, rude and flirtatious at times. I really enjoyed how he got close with Rose and how they ended up seeing each other secretly.
Romantic comedy and chick-lit fans will LOVE Laura Barnard‘s work, and Tequila & Tea Bags is no exception! Poor Rose! She’s young and hasn’t a clue which direction to go in. With no real true friends, apart from Janey who is swanning off to Mexico for a good time, and no solid boyfriend, she spends her time living the high life, drinking and having sex! After her parents have had enough they decide to drive her up to a small village in Yorkshire where she can stay with her cousin Elsie who is preparing to become a nun!
As you can probably imagine, the idea of living somewhere so quiet and remote does not excite Rose one bit. It isn’t long before Rose, the new girl in the village, is becoming distracting and causing problems for many of the residents, although unintentionally.
Tequila & Tea Bags is a fun and emotional read. Rose is so easy to like and relate to – she even has elements of my younger self as she is impatient to have a good time and wanting to let herself go, and yet she has such a big heart that many don’t see because of her actions sometimes. As soon as people begin to see the good in her, they then find out about her latest capers and they get pulled away again!
Because of the connection I could make with Rose, I mean, she is so lovable but also flawed, it makes the story believable, down-to-earth and full of feeling. Mix this with humour and the magic of romance, which lifts the reader’s spirits, and it is a delightful read. I was so involved with the storyline that I found myself cringing at times as I could see another shenanigan unfold and Rose getting into deeper trouble.
There are also many loveable characters in Tequila & Tea Bags. Aside from the elderly residents in the care home – some of whom you’ll love dearly – there are also Will, James (the one Rose was warned to stay clear of), Riley (the vile ex of Rose’s love interest), her new friends in Megan and Lauren, as well as the elderly couple living next door who carry out sexual role play pretending to be The Black Eyed Peas!! Many of the locals have their own stories that Rose learns about and becomes involved with during her stay, however to go into too much detail about these characters now would spoil all the fun.
My final point on Laura Barnard‘s stories is that they are packed with solid characters and storylines for many of them, which really supports the main story. There is always something happening, even if the main character has a moment of solace. And the read truly is an emotional rollercoaster as you find yourself laughing out loud, cringing, telling the characters off and drawn to tears at times. I love Laura Barnard‘s books and can’t wait to read her next story!

Rating: 4.5 Stars
Tequila & Tea Bags is a romantic comedy in the likes of Confessions of a Shopaholic, Bridget Jones’ Diary and Wallbanger. It is irreverant and hilarious, filled with drama and love, anger and tears. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Rose is one of those characters who is completely ridiculous but you fall in love with her anyways. She is always up to her eyeballs in crazy stunts, and finds herself in the most insane situations. The things she did in order to try to win that incentive contest were just nuts. She started out as a bit of a spoiled brat, who was mostly concerned about herself and getting out of Yorkshire, but evolved into a character with a lot of heart. While in the beginning she had some pretty shallow relationships with people, she became someone who people could rely on. Someone that they felt comfortable around and who they could trust. She was constantly seeking to help people, in her own way, even when they didn’t always want it.
Cousin Elsie was an interesting character who started out a bit uptight. She was a nun in training after all, but she definitely relaxed some more throughout the story. Some of the things she said and did were just too funny for words. Betty was the kind of woman we all want to be when we get older. She was not afraid to speak her mind, and I loved every minute of her interaction with Rose.
I didn’t start out liking Will much at first, but he definitely grew on me the more the story went along. He gave off a real tight-ass persona to others, but beneath all of that, he had a heart that was broken. There was a lot of hurt buried underneath there. His immediate dislike of Rose developed into something more the longer they were around each other, and they were able to open up to one another. The banter between the two was something I thoroughly enjoyed and I definitely fell for him. Who doesn’t love a strong man with a good comeback and a bit of a wounded soul?
I thought that the writing style was really funny. You never knew what to expect from moment to moment, only that it might be completely over the top hysterical. There were some words that I wasn’t sure what the meant initially, since I am not from that area, but I figured them out. I actually found myself reading this book while trying out various accents for each character.
Overall, if you love books with characters that will make you laugh, cringe, and almost pee your pants (or a different result if you are Rose), then this book is just for you! I absolutely recommend this book. It was just what I needed.
Tequila & Tea Bags is the first book by Laura Barnard that I have read and I absolutely loved it. Isn't it so great when you take up a new book not knowing whether you will like it or not and then totally adore it! Same happened when I took up this book to read. I had just heard about the book from a friend, loved the colourful cover and was intrigued by the blurb so much that I wanted to check it out as soon as possible. So when Laura contacted me about reviewing the book, I jumped at the chance!
Tequila & Tea Bags is the story of Rose who just wants to enjoy Tequila shots in Mexico but is instead sent to the quaint, cozy village in Yorkshire where the favourite drink is tea! Sticking out like a sore thumb in the village, Rose's adventures take her on a journey of self-discovery, finding love and a whole new perspective to life!
Laura's writing style is simple and she uses typical Yorkshire lingo with sayings and phrases people from there will instantly recognize. I had some difficulty here since I am from India and unaware of the common terms used there but it didn't hamper my total interest and engagement in the book. I loved the vivid images the author creates in the story of the laid back village with its simple life, the tea loving people which made them dear to me since I, too, am a lover of tea and the humourous accounts of Rose's adventures here. Laura has expertly balanced humour, emotional play, romance, drama and some motivating scenarios beautifully in the book.
The events, scenarios and dialogues flow so fluidly that they created a mental picture in my mind and easily transported me to the breathtaking beauty of Yorkshire and the simplicity of the village.
The characters are admirably sketched and although, initially I didn't like Rose much but as the story progressed I came to like and understand her better. I also liked Will and Betty and am so glad I read this book. :)
All in all, Tequila & Tea Bags is a must-read, entertaining book that had me laughing, smiling, enjoying, sometimes misty eyed but eventually sighing with happiness. 4.5 out of 5 and recommended to readers above the age of eighteen because it has some sex scenes in it. Go read the book and I am sure you will love it. Laura Barnard is a talented writer and I am totally going to read the other books by her.
I received the book from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
* I received this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review*
I'm Originally from the North East of England, and I really enjoyed reading this book, The title is quite apt, Rose (a Southerner!) wants to be Chugging on Tequila in Mexico but instead she's been sent to her Cousin in Yorkshire where the favourite tipple is Tea (well Non Alcoholic choice that is) her parents have sent her there to try and steer her from her delinquent ways! Of course she sticks out like a sore thumb in the village, for one shes a Southerner and she's from the City so being stuck in a quaint boring Country village is like hell for her!
I loved reading this book, it was like a trip down memory lane with a side order of giggles, some bits had me in tears too but overall this is a lighthearted book...
The writing flows well, I am glad that the Author used lots of local sayings, some I haven't heard for a few years! “I am so chuffed,” “playing silly beggar's (that's one of my mums favourites!!),” “bodge job” (this is when you fix something and it looks ok but it probably won't last long!)
I also loved the part where Rose ends up volunteering at the local nursing home, although it was more to do with an incentive plan that if won could win her the tickets to meet her friend in Mexico, she ends up liking the work and the residents she meets, I just think that having this mix of generations in the plot line gave this story more 'Heart' And of course some of the things she does to make sure she wins it are some of the funniest.
I am really glad that I got the opportunity to review this book for the blog Tour, and I think it would make an ideal read for the Summer Hols (well its nearly summer here in Australia!)
My Favourite character was Betty (you will have to read the book to find out who she is), and the Epilogue finished off the book perfectly.
My favourite passage in the book is when Will talks about the last time he was with his mum, oh boy that was so well written, so emotional but beautifully descriptive. When you read the book you will know what I mean when you read it.
So in ending - I would recommend this book to all readers, its got some sex in it but overall its a book that is about finding love and where you truly belong.
Crazy stunts, nights spent in random beds, and other crazy antics litter Rose’s life. Her parents have had enough and send Rose away for a while. ‘Banished’ if you will to a house in the country with a long lost cousin. The one thought that drives Rose is finding a way to head off to sunny Mexico to join her friend as a employee at a club. Which is every young gals dream….or maybe not!!!
Rose finds life a bit stifling living with her cousin Elsie. After all - who wants to devote their life to becoming a nun?? Rose quickly finds herself plotting a way to high tale it to Mexico, and the lengths she goes to are hilarious. After landing a part time gig at a local bar, Rose finds herself milking a contest at the local nursing home. The antics that ensue are absolutely hilarious!! Desperation calls for drastic measures.
As Rose begins to reap the most hours at the nursing home, she begins to develop relationships with some of the residents. Something that is surprising to herself, Will, and Elsie. Along the way, Rose begins to form new friendships, have a love affair, and continue to put her unique twist on making a mockery of life. Oh - when will the humiliation end? What Rose doesn’t realize is that during her quest to escape the confines of life in the country, other residents start to discover what a beautiful soul Rose possesses. Even if it comes with some unbelievable antics that leave everyone shaking their head!!
Oh my word….I must confess this is the first book I have read by Laura Barnard, but will certainly not be the last!! I discovered Tequila & Tea Bags on a whim. Amazon kept throwing it up as a Recommended Read when I shopped. So - the curiosity got me. After all - the title is certainly an attention grabber!!
What I discovered was a superbly HILARIOUS read that left me literally laughing out loud. There is no way to avoiding those LOL moments when Rose sets her sights on that trip to Mexico!! The insane antics are so far fetched at times you will shake your head and turn that page quicker than you imagined. A welcome relief when I had be lacking for a book that just made me feel ‘something’. Well - I got my wish when I opened Tequila & Tea Bags!! This is one hilarious book that you don’t want to miss out on reading!!
Rosie is still living with her parents and after one “walk of shame” too many her parents have had enough. She is horrified when she is sent to her nun-in-training cousin Elsie’s home in the English countryside. Rosie’s first order of business is finding a way to Mexico to work as a club rep with her best friend who is already there living the high life. Elsie, a devout, religious woman immediately drags Elsie to the local care home for soul-enriching volunteer work. After learning she could win a free holiday to anywhere if she logged enough volunteer hours, Rosie quickly finds her “giving” sprit. Throwing herself into her task with gusto, Rosie does not immediately lose her selfish ways. As she meets the residents of the care home and the village, however, she begins to look outside of herself and question her beliefs on life and love.
At times I cringed; I laughed and in other moments simply became teary. The story is a whirl-wind of events and emotion. At first, Rosie did not seem to be someone I really wanted to know – she was selfish, and seemed to only think of herself. That may have been true at first but that first impression was completely reversed by the end of the story. The author, with a flair for human quirkiness and a great sense of humour, revealed Rosie as she matured through one scene and escapade after another. I groaned at some points – some of the choices Rosie made were astounding – but they made me laugh and really showed how far she came by the end of the story. I loved how Rosie came to care for Betty, the other residents and even her fellow villagers as the village became her home. And not only Rosie was changing and growing as she brought along those around her on her journey. Those changes allowed Rosie to have that happy ending I was so hoping she would receive. The author’s ability to make me wince, smile and cry seemed effortless. I really enjoyed this wonderfully “soapy” book and will be looking for more by this author.
Tea bags and tequila 5***** I had tears running down my legs!!! Laura has done it again! I've read a few of Laura's books and there all fantastic, there not your everyday read, she has a great sense of humour and it comes across so well in her books! Tea bags and tequila.... we read about rose's endless journey of trying to setting in to small Yorkshire village she's been sent to live in by her dad. She is an southerner in north territory, who can't quite seem to get a break, the little white lies don't help tho.... Where does she really want to be??? Mexico of course. But money, polos and MEN get in her way from going on her adventures! Can she raise the money she needs to escape or does LOVE get in the way?? Laura your humour is so funny!! Baby and the bride had me in fits, but Tea bags and tequila had me wetting myself. Vaseline will never be looked at the same way in my house! You need a pick me up read, something light and laughable then this book NEEDS to be on your shelf. She will have you giggling in minutes. The book is well written, catchy and real. Being British I get the Yorkshire lingo, American you may not but Laura writes it in a way you can still understand what's going on. The characters have great personalities, will is a sweety you really wanna wrap him up and keep him in your pocket but then we get some sexiness with James. Although I really wanna meet Bertie and Mavis now that's a couple!!!! This read is mischievous, refreshing and different from all the erotica, dark reads that are around. So glad I got my self some Tea bags and tequila.
A delightful diversion! Rose’s story had me laughing, shaking my head, crying, and wondering what else could possibly happen.
Growing up South of London, 23 year old Rose led a life of partying and one night stands. When her parents have had enough of her antics, they send her to a small village in Yorkshire to live with her cousin, Elsie, a nun-in-training.
Within 24 hours, Rose has a plan to escape to Mexico to join her friend working at a resort and living the good life. This plan depends on her putting in the most volunteer hours at the local care home in order to win an all-expenses paid getaway. And Rose will let nothing stand in between her and that prize - including doing ANYTHING to make other volunteers turn on their heels and run in the opposite direction.
Over the course of her time in Yorkshire, Rose makes friends and comes to find she enjoys working at the care home. She even catches the eye of the care home’s handsome but infuriating director, Will.
Her journey to personal growth isn’t without its ups and downs, due in large part to her antics, and misunderstandings. But it’s a fun ride.
Laura Barnard is a weaves a charming story filled with humor, romance, and self-realization. This was my introduction to her work and I cannot wait to read her other novels.
When I started reading this book, I dove in with an open but apprehensive mind. I wasn't really sure what to expect (Laura is a new author for me) and the synopsis was enough to get me to try it--but I wasn't convinced I was going to love it....
...then I met Rose.
To say she is all over the place would be putting it mildly. She's a freaking mess! But as I got to know her and as her story began to unfold, I totally fell in love with her. She's so ridiculous and she gets herself into so much trouble that I was tempted to not feel sorry for her--but then when she laughs at herself or has an emotionally charged moment of self-awareness, she totally had me rooting for her again. I wouldn't say she's relate-able (at least not to me, she's so over the top!) but she's beautifully human and I adore that.
Then there's Will. Their love story was so fun to watch unfold. He was wonderfully endearing! Not to mention, the anticipation and the anxiety that came along with their relationship...when I wasn't laughing, I was holding my breath. When I wasn't holding my breath, I was yelling at them to get it together! It was great.
There's also many other characters that I came to know and love. Each one contributing to the evolution of Rose. I would definitely read this story again. I think, in the beginning, there was something I didn't particularly like--but I got too carried away laughing to remember what it was, now. So--bravo, Laura. You've brewed yourself 5 stars!
So, I signed up for this tour because I liked the title. I admit it whole heartedly. I mean, how could I go wrong with a book that had "tequila" in the title. Which means, I went into this book with no idea of what to expect. I had never heard of the author or read her work before.
When I began reading, I quickly realized that it was written in British English. Until recently, I hadn't realized the differences between the Brit's version of the language and what us American's mangle... um... use every day. Thankfully a British friend recently informed me that a "vest top" is a "tank top" or I would have wondered. Lots of other words left me a bit flummoxed as well. But, I look at it this way, I had a lovely cultural journey without even leaving my bed. Because, yeah, I began reading this at about midnight in my bed.
I will admit the story started a bit slow for me and a few times I wondered if we could move the story along, but... I could not put the book down. I think I read for about 8 hours straight, before I read the last word.
Poor Rose, there were times I wanted to smack her, times I wanted to cuddle her, and then there was Betty... this book made me cry, laugh, and sigh with happiness. You've been warned.
My recommendation: Read it and give Laura Barnard a try, I believe you will be glad you did.

Wow just wow. This is the first book of Laura Barnard I've read and this has become one of the best romantic comedy books I've ever read.
This book is about Rose, who was sent to live with her cousin Elsie in the Yorkshire countryside, Rose has only one thing on her mind; joining her friends as a club rep in Mexico. When she hears about a council incentive offering the promise of free flights to the person who clocks the most volunteering hours at the local care home, she’s got her plan set.But she doesn’t plan on bonding with the old ladies, going after the village bad boy and trying to persuade Elsie not to become a Nun.And she sure wasn't prepared for William :D
The characters were so well drawn that I practically felt like I was walking through the whole book with them, feeling what they were feeling, seeing what they were seeing. Specially Rose, she is a klutz, liar and she steals money but yet she is my favorite. She made me laugh so hard. This character is just so full of life. Then Will, he is the type of Prince Charming like character that every girl is bound to fell in love with. All the characters were perfect from their own standings.
All in all I loved the book and I so hope that there's gonna be a book on James and Elsie :)
I was given this book for an honest Review at Books Are My Escape. The blurb had me very interested from the start. Then I started reading it and I really could not put this book down. It went everywhere with me, to the doctor, to the bathtub, and into the night, when I was reading instead of sleeping. This is the story of Rose, and how she is sent to live in the country with her cousin Elsie, who by the way wants to be a nun. When you are a party girl who is looking to go live it up in Mexico, nuns are the last thing you want to be dealing with. Trying to get her way paid to Mexico, she hears about an incentive program to clock hours working in a care home for the elderly. The person who volunteers the most, get a paid holiday. So it is off to the care home for Rose, where she meets a very perplexing boss. Then there is the village bad boy, and a slew of friends that she didn't think she would ever meet, let alone like. This story is sweet, sassy and emotional! I cried, laughed, yelled, and cringed right along with Rose. I will admit, that my English is American English, so some of the terms got me, but not enough that I didn't know what was going on. I would highly recommend this book to readers that like a good story with all the fixings, bad boys, good boys, parties, nuns. Yep, has all that and more..Tequila and Tea Bags, is a great read!

I was given this book to read in turn for an honest review!!!
Being a city girl, Rose struggles to settle in to life living in the countryside. Mexico is her dream and she will do everything it takes to win that ticket to freedom. Will Yorkshire hold more for Rose than she can imagine? Can she find love and affection like she has never felt before?
Overall I found the story funny and inspiring. First few chapters I found a little slow going because Rose and her personality were a little frustrating, as the story developed so did Rose and I soon started to love her character. This is a story of self-discovery; Rose had no true aim in life or any real guidance. It’s during her stay in Yorkshire she discovers her true personality; finds true friends and finally finds what she deserves. Her journey was a tough one, and nothing ever went to plan. I felt this story inspired me to believe that no matter how alone you feel there are friends out there waiting to meet you and help you to discover your true self; those friends will also forgive and support you no matter your mistakes. This book is full of laugh out loud moments; I often found myself crying in laughter!
If you love a romance with plenty of humour you will love this book.
I won this book some time ago, and I am slightly embarrassed to say, I put it into my treasured book case and plum forgot about it. After reading Laura's other two books, I went downstairs to make and cuppa and retrieve this book to settle in. I just knew it was going to make me laugh and keep me entertained all evening.
Rose is a spoilt brat that has upset her parents once again, and she is shipped off to her country cousin - Elsie. Elsie has her own issues, having lost love, and feeling she will never find it again, she has decided to become a nun. She is hell bent on doing all the right things, and drags self centred Rose with her to the care home for volunteer work. Rose is not at all happy until she finds out that she could win an all expenses paid holiday to any destination if she logs enough hours. She desperately wants to meet up with her BFF in Mexico and drink away her blues.
Things start out rough for Rose, but she soon discovers there is more to life than drinking and sex. The antics and hilarious shenanigans Rose goes through will captivate you. This story will tug at all the emotions with each character, especially with Rose and Will. It is a highly recommended rom-com.
Rose's adventure in Yorkshire is hilarious. She gets herself into some crazy situations. When she arrives, she is miserable but finds herself in the village bad boy's bed. She soon realizes she doesn't want to be that girl anymore- the one who thinks with her "LuLu". She volunteers at the local care home and even know her initial intentions weren't honorable she soon loves it there and all the residents as well. Things slowing evolve, and she finds herself in a relationship with Will but just when things are going well they turn to crap, and she doesn't know how to make it right. Will is leaving, and all she has to do is tell him how she feels but Rose has never been in love, so she isn't quite sure what these feelings are. Elsie, Rose's cousin, is pretty funny as well with quite a love story of her own. As far as things working out for not only Rose but Elise as well that's for you to find out. The sex scenes are kind of skimmed over - no details. Overall the book was a Romantical Comedy. The ending was Fabulous.
TEQUILA AND TEA BAGS is a hilarious and heartbreaking tale of one woman’s journey to maturity. Rose’s behavior has led her to be sent to live with her cousin Elsie in the country. However, Rose has a plan…get the heck out of Yorkshire and met up with her best friend in Mexico to be a club rep. Rose learns of an incentive for volunteers at the nursing home, she’s the first in line to sign up. Yet things don’t always turn out the way Rose plans. TEQUILA AND TEA BAGS is filled with quirky and unique characters who wormed their way into my heart. Each character really stood out and I was definitely emotionally invested. Rose’s choices kept making me shake my head at her lack of restraint and her unintentional thoughtlessness, but I had to crack up at some of her exploits. TEQUILA AND TEA BAGS made me both laugh and cry with the wit and wisdom of the author’s words. I loved the fact there is a happy ending which doesn’t feel forced and is totally believable. Kudos!
Let the laughs begin. I giggled through the majority of this book. It really was an adventure! Written in British dialect it was neat to read.
Rose is a woman who's goal is to sleep with as many men as possible, party, never fall in love (because it doesn't exist), get drunk, and go to Mexico to be with her best friend. When her parents have had enough they send her to live with her cousin, Elsie. Elsie want to be a Nun!
Elsie lives in a small village where there is nothing to do. She has Rose volunteer at the local home for the Elderly. This is where we meet Will, the douche! Rose has so many misadventures, she makes some great friends and some terrible decisions. Can the party girl be tamed? Will she finally find what she doesn't even know she is looking for?
Such a wild ride is taken with Rose. She really does make some horrible choices. The cast of character's in this is hilarious! Truly an adventure to take!
This is an incredibly written story that has pretty much everything in it! You want a love story you say? Well take a look you have Rose and Will. You want a sassy grandmother figure in the book, who also has a story to tell for every problem out in the world...look no further you have miss Betty. You want a cousin who is quietly going through her own turmoil...Enter miss Elsie. This book is written as if it is a diary but it is so much more. The story line flows effortlessly and the twists and turns in this story will have your laughing your hinder off one minute or tearing up the other. This book is written with British dialect so I did have to do a little bit of research on some of the terms...Jumper is a sweater or a sweatshirt. I had a very fun time reading this book, in fact when I started it I had a hard time putting it down. Excellent job Laura Barnard I loved this book and I can't wait for more from you!
I was given this book by the author for a honest review. When Rose is sent to live with her cousin in the small dull town she decides she will do anything to get out of it. So when she finds out she can win a trip doing charity work at the old folks home she jumps at the chance. There she meets an old woman named Beth who is at the end of her life and regretful of her lost love. She also meets William the man who runs the home and it seems like he doesn't like her from the beginning. Needing to let loose she hooks up with the bad boy James and starts a series of one night stands with him but when she and William get to know each other better and she falls for him she has to deal with her problems and set right the wrongs she's done or risk losing him forever. I was sucked into this book from the very beginning. The characters and plot of this book were well written.
