Love's Suicide #2

Love Survives

Rate this book
Imagine being in love with the same girl since you were ten years old, only to have her fall for your twin instead. This story is rocky. It will rip you apart and possibly put you back together again. I know this because it's my story. The pain and anguish experienced in this is what it was like to hold onto hope that some day we'd find each other again. I won't sugar coat the details of what I went through to have her, nor will I apologize for any actions that led me right back into her life. Sometimes love isn't enough. For me, it took some bad experiences, a little fate, and a lot of time.

“This little girl was saving my life even if she’d never be able to understand how. She was my reason for existing. She was my everything. My heart didn’t just belong to Kat anymore. She was going to have to share it with our daughter.”

Love Survives is Book two in the Love Suicide Series. My recommendation is to read Love Suicide first. Why? So you can connect with Kat more and understand her situation. Love Suicide was written from Kat's POV. Now Love Survives is from Brook's POV. I really needed his POV. I liked this book a lot and The Epilogue? Thank you Jennifer for that!

I'm not quite sure what to say about this book...

It had it's pluses and minuses for me. There were many 3 and 3.5 star worthy moments, but equally, the story drew me in. Those parts made me realize a 3.5 certainly wasn't fair, but neither did I feel the story deserved more than 4 stars.

Now here's my reasoning why.

While it's not the tense that bothered me (it is, after all, told in third person), it's the tone -- while reading, I couldn't help but feeling that it was told in a reflective sort of way. The book was more internal dialogue than actual conversation. It was almost as if the book is Brooks sitting down, months after the end of 'the end', reflecting on how he and Kat came to be... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just not a me thing.

As a dialogue reader, I felt that the book was lacking. I found myself bored with his thoughts. That's not to say I didn't like him, because I did, I just ... wanted more from the book. The parts that were dialogue driven, though, certainly helped push the story along in my opinion. Those moments I savored.

...granted, at times the dialogue didn't seem to be 'age appropriate' but beggars can't be choosers.

I liked Brooks and Kat -- as friends and as lovers, as children and adults. My problem is they were both pushovers. Brooks allowed his twin brother to demean his feelings for Kat and he let Branch go after her -- even though ever.y.one knew Brooks and Kat were meant to be. As kids, Brooks was her protector. As preteens when her world falls apart, Brooks was her savior. As teens on the anniversary of her parents' deaths, Brooks... under the disguise of Branch... was her shoulder and release.

Brooks has been there for Kat from the get go and still she believed every thing Branch tells her, and ends up with Branch.

...but that's all for Kat's story.

On Brooks's end, you see the heart break he goes through and the struggles he faces, knowing that he's the "lesser twin". But buddy, the problem with all that is this: you know you want Kat, your family knows you want Kat, your twin knows you want Kat... Well, go get Kat. If you don't, someone's going to swoop in on that. And someone does. Two someones, as a matter of fact.

When Branch and Kat start to get serious, Brooks acts out and does his best to make Kat jealous -- as any teen would do. When that doesn't work and he realizes he won't be enough, he enlists in the Army. After much pleading on his parents' part, he comes home for Branch and Kat's wedding, only to 'crash' it the night before, setting off a new whirlwind of events.

I enjoyed reading this story in Brooks's voice. Like I said earlier, there were parts I wish I had more of, and others I wish I had less of, but in the end, I kept reading because I wanted to know more.

I wanted to see where the story was going to take us.

It was interesting to see the emotions on Kat's face through Brooks's eyes. I liked the pauses and the hang-ups which lead to immediate call backs -- made me want to know what was happening on Kat's end of the deal...

So while I had issues, I have every single intention of picking up LOVE SUICIDE and reading their story through her eyes. She runs hot and cold in my book... pulling Brooks along and then pushing him away... but I still want to see the story through her eyes and maybe get a better understanding for her and how she was so completely blind to Brooks until... well, until she wasn't.

A good read. Not my hands-down-favorite, but a good read. Brooks is a good guy -- a good man, a good son, a good father... I just love the man.

...even if I felt he was over-emotional at points ;) Still liked him.

~ 5 "I LOVE Brooks" Stars ~

I have to say I was lucky enough to be able to Beta read Love Survives for Jennifer Foor. To this day Love's Suicide is my All Time Favorite books of Jenn Foor's, so when I heard she was writing another version (Brooks's POV) I was stoked. Love Survives was just as fabulous as Love's Suicide. This book just reiterated why I LOVE Brooks Valentine so much. This was not an easy book to read for your emotions. There were some really hard spots to read, that really broke my heart, but I think it is a side of the story we needed to have.

While reading the first book I always wanted to know how Brooks was feeling and thinking and now we have those answers. Love Survives isn't a complete retelling of the first book, because it is from Brooks's POV so there is a time when we don't see anything about Katy. If you have read the first book you will understand what I am saying. I would recommend that you read Love's Suicide first because you need to know Katy's side of the story first before you dive into Brooks's. Things will just make more sense to you if you read book 1 first.

This book is just as long as the first one, but just like in Love's Suicide, Jenn is able to suck you in and hold onto your attention throughout the whole book. You will want to keep turning the pages until you get to the end. AS usual this is another book I didn't want to see come to an end. Even though I knew what happens, this book still felt fresh and new to me. I am not going to rehash all the details of the storyline, because if you are aware of what happens in the first book, then you know what this story is about.

What I did really enjoy was seeing what Brooks went through while he was a ranger in the Army. Jenn put such detail into that part of the story, that she made me feel like I was there with him. What he experienced in the Army was horrific, and I couldn't imagine having to see everything he did. It truly made me appreciate the sacrifice that the men and women of the armed forces take on to protect our country. During this time of the story we were introduced to some new characters, who were friends of Brooks in the Army. These friends and love he had for Katy is truly what helps him keep going on.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, but especially if you are a fan of Jenn Foor's. You truly don't want to miss these two fabulous work of literary art!!!

The first book in this series was out a year ago and that's when I read it. There are a few hundred books from then to now in my mind, so when I started reading Love Survives it sounded very familiar, but I didn't realize why. Glancing at my Goodreads and seeing it checked "Want to Read" I just shrugged and kept on reading, not looking into it any further.

Turns out that Love Survives (which I had read) is the same story as Love's Suicide only from Brook's POV and I kind of wished I would have stuck with the first one, as I'm not into this mushy, wimpy guy stuff. Brooks came off as a total push over the way he totally changed his life for Katy. I didn't like to read and read about how miserable he was, didn't care if he died on the battlefield and cut out his entire family because of her.

I disliked Katy in the first book and if anything, I hated her even more this time around. She comes off as a selfish b-word even after learning everything Brooks has gone through for her. While I am a Jenn Foor fan, this book didn't hit the mark for me. I was satisfied with Love's Suicide and the way it ended, I didn't like hearing how miserable Brooks was for so many years.

I didn't read the first book in this series, and didn't need to.

Brooks Valentine is hopelessly in love with his next-door neighbor, Katy. She is his first everything. Shame she is also the first everything to his twin brother, Branch.

The whole time Brooks is miserable. His brother knows this, knows he loves Katy, and lies to keep Brooks and Katy apart. His parents know Brooks loves Katy. and, probably Katy knows Brooks loves her, but she listens to Branch's lies.

Brooks joins the army to get away from them, but he returns home for their wedding. It's a pretty brutal affair that leaves Brooks reeling on the verge of an Afghanistan deployment.

While trying not to get KIA, Brooks learns to cope with his losses--then Katy contacts him, and his new mission is to stay alive for her love. Well that goes pear-shaped. Brooks returns home, wounded, to find so many surprises, I was shocked his brain didn't explode.

Add in the drama of reuniting with his family, and his conniving brother, and it's clear this family was one brief phone call away from appearing on Jerry Springer. I know a lot of people liked the first book, but I couldn't find myself liking Katy at all, and all I really had for Brooks was pity.

I know others find this book to be excellent, but the storyline was convoluted and borderline creepy, with too many coincidences. Had Brooks once opened his mouth, Katy would have been his in high school. He didn't. He trusted his brother, when he knew his brother was a selfish d-bag. Throughout the book I wondered at the voice, mostly because it read as if Brooks was a 50 y/o jilted, desperate woman. I may be more in tune with a male POV because I read a metric ton of gay fiction, but I'm pretty sure teen guys don't sound like he did--and my hard proof of this is being a mother to teen boys.

I'm not going to go into my grievances with the language of this book, which was clunky, but I'm hopeful that a final edit was made to dispose of the many homophone/grammar errors. I can appreciate this book was meant to mirror the previous one, in Brooks' POV, but it was about two times longer than it probably needed to be, due to the many plot contortions. Every time it seemed we'd reach a happy ending, another twist snapped loose and Katy, or Brooks, or both, was on the run. It wasn't heart-tugging, for me. It was exhausting.

Love Survives is book two in the Love Suicide Series by Jenn Foor. You do not have to read book one in order to read book two. That being said. I did not read book one.

I was conflicted with this book.

The story is of Brooks Valentine and his lifelong love for his next door neighbor, Kathryn Michaels. Brooks has been in love with Katy since they were 12, the only problem is Branch, Brooks twin brother, has always been in his way. This causes Brooks' life into a downward spiral. The whole time Brooks is miserable. Everyone in his life knows this, his brother, his parents, they know he loves Katy. Branch's lies keep Brooks and Katy apart. And so in order to flee from the pain, he enlists in the Army.

I guess my pain problem with this book is that as much of a great guy Brooks is, he was such a pushover. Everyone knew his feeling for Katy, including Katy, yet he really did nothing about it. There wasn't a lot of dialogue but mostly inner thoughts of how Brooks saw everything that was going on around him. Katy I had a real love hate relationship with her too. She knew the real deal with Brooks. And as soon as it looked like things were finally going to come together for her and Brooks...they would run. It was frustrating to say the least. Brooks actions should have spoken louder that Branch's lies and deception. Brooks was always the one to be there as her friend, her protector, her savior. It was painful to watch how brutally mean Branch was to his brother, deceiving both Brooks and Katy into believing they were better off as friends.

There is so much more to their story, but I'm not one for giving the full rundown on a book. But I will tell you, if you enjoy angst. This book is full of it and you'll enjoy the book. I'm not the best at taking large quantities of angst and so this book pushed me a little over the edge. Was the story good? Yes. Would I read book one to see the story from Katy's POV? More than likely yes.

An author writes to tell a story, to push buttons, to make you think. And Jenn Foor did all those things and more.

I liked Love’s Suicide, but I think I enjoyed this one a bit more. I love to read a male’s POV and I was looking forward to hearing from Brooks. Even though many scenes are the same in both books, we get to experience what Brooks endured after walking away and joining the military.

Brooks faces the devastation fighting overseas while he is still trying to recover from the loss of Katy. He goes through so much misery, pain, and loneliness that it will break your heart. In the meantime, Katy is fighting her own battles trying to make a bad marriage work that was never meant to be in the first place.

When these two characters finally find each other again, they still face many battles, but they now have one another for support and to guide them through.

This journey will bring you through many emotions… angst, heartache, loss, joy, discovery, and so much more. Above all, the author tells a tale of a love that survives time, distance and any obstacle in place.

I recommend Love Survives to anyone that loves a second chance romance and is ready for an emotional ride that will tug on your heart strings.

I didn't think I could love this series more.

Being in Brooks Valentine's head made me love more. Made me cry more. Made me feel more.

He may have wanted to be numb but my goodness I felt everything.

I can be sceptical at times of the same book but from the opposite protagonist's PoV. But I knew that Jennifer Foor wouldn't do that to us.

For starters, they were apart for years! We know what Katy did. We knew where Brooks was. But how was he? What was he doing? How was he coping?

The most emotional times of the book stemmed from reading his experiences in the Armed Forces - particularly in Afghanistan.

To read the remaining parts from his side, from discovering Katy to finding out all of the secrets that came to light in Love's Suicide were a pure treat. Yes, they were soul shatteringly painful but he has such a sensitive personality that his words came across as very deep.

Adored the story just as much this time around. So, thank you Jenn. Thank you for sharing Brooks with us even more! Another gem of a series from you! <3

I absolutely loved Love's Suicide and completely fell in love with Katy and Brooks. I was quite sad when the book ended. One day when scrolling through my emails I seen that Jennifer was offering ARC's for Love Survives and I screamed. Yep, I'm in love with a fictional character and I am not ashamed.

Reading from Brooks' POV puts the story in new perspective. He went to war and saw things that have scarred him for life yet he held onto his reason for living... Katy. He loved her and his love for her kept him fighting when all he wanted to do was lay down and die. His inner dialogue was heartbreaking. Brooks fights for what he wants in life even if it means letting it go but that didn't happen he held on with all he had.

Brooks and Katy will forever have a place in my heart. Both Love's Suicide and Love Survives are seated comfortably on my favorites list and that's where they will stay.

"She doesn't need to be given away since she's always been mine."

There's no use denying my love for Brooks Valentine. I loved him in Love's Suicide and I believe I love him even more after Love Survives. As much of this book that is the same, there is so much that is different. Obviously if you read Love's Suicide you know how much time Brooks and Kat spent apart. To get Brooks' POV and to feel his hopelessness and despair at times was utterly heartbreaking. But I absolutely adored the way he loves Kat. And truth be told Kat kinda annoyed me from Brooks POV so I'm glad we got her POV first because I truly rooted for her in LS. Overall as far as alternate POV's go I enjoyed this one. Thanks Jenn Foor for giving us more of our beautiful, broken hero, Brooks Valentine.

I fell in LOVE all over again for Brooks Valentine in this emotional sometimes heartbreaking account of the events of his life from about ten and his time with his family including his twin brother , Branch and their next story neighbor and best friend Katy. Love's Suicide was told from Katy's POV and this one is from Brooks. It is the same story and it's not . He recounts things that happened in first book but, in a totally different way and in Jenn's writing you get a whole new pieces of the puzzle like times when he was deployed . It is a must read , do NOT miss !

I was pulled into this story right from the get go, which is where I stayed until I had read every single word that was written. At the same time I had my mini movie playing along in my head. Love it when that happens.
Emotions run rife through this book, I went through each and everyone of them along with the characters. I have to admit though, there was a character or two I really wanted to punch, but they redeemed themselves before the end of the book. I might of cried once or twice, so if you are anything like me you might want to make sure you have tissues on hand.
There are surprises throughout this story, some you may see coming, where others you won't. Some are large while others are small, some of the surprises may hit you square in the face, where others may pull on your heart strings. But each and everyone of them holds equal importance within the book.
I have read this book on more than once and have enjoyed it each and every time, even cried at the same places.
I highly recommend this book and this author.

I have many pet peeves on reading...lol. I hate nothing more than to read a book and then have to turn around and read the exact same book in the heroes POV. Why? Couldn't you just put both POV's in one book. I feel like its a waste of my time, and thats why it took so long to finish. I couldn't get my focus on the story. Been there done that. There were a few instances where you did some new information but for me it wasn't enough for a second book. Truthfully this book made Katy more unlikeable for me. Brook needed to get a back bone and not take all the crap that Katy and his brother dished out. There were instances that Katy should have stood up for herself but all she did if confronted was bawl.

Jennifer Foor made us fall in love with Brooks Valentine in Loves Suicide. Katy and Brooks story was heartbreakingly beautiful. We were ecstatic when we heard Jenn was writing Love Survives, told in Brooks' POV, we were dying and hoping that one day Jenn would give us his story.

We don't know how it was possible for Jenn to make us fall even more in love with Brooks but she did. The pain, loss and love just radiates through Brooks. If you thought Loves Suicide touched your heart, be prepared to have your heart hurt while you feel all the emotions that Brooks go through. Love Survives surpassed our expectations and then some. Loves Suicide is one of our all time favourite books but it has just been knocked off by Love Survives.

Love Survives is not a complete retelling of the first book, being in Brooks' POV we get to see what he went through while being away from Katy and his family for 2 years.

Sometimes love isn't enough.
Sometimes it takes a little fate, some bad experiences, and a lot of time.

Brooks' heart was broken, the one girl he loved since he was young and had given his heart to was in love with his twin brother. Branch stopped at nothing to prevent the love between Brooks and Katy ever evolving. Not willing to sit by and watch his brother with the other half of his heart in a relationship, he enlists in the army. It's not easy walking away from the person who your heart belongs to; but your heart can only take so much heartache and Brooks can't take much more.

"I literally needed to walk away from my family so that they could be happy. It was the only way; the only choice I could make. I loved her enough to let her go; to give up hope on us ever being together."

Going through training and then being deployed we get to see no scratch that we were able to feel what Brooks was going through, with his mind focused on the task in front of him his mind is constantly wandering back to Katy and how she is.

"I’m better off gone, because another day, week or month in this place is going to rip me apart until there’s nothing left."

Kristy - I have to say one of my favourite parts of this book was reading Brooks' journals and letters to Katy.

Brooks reconnects with Katy through letters, those letters giving him hope and strength he needs to get through this deployment. When he returns home he discovers the biggest surprise of all. Once again there is something in the way of these two being together. Seeing each other again though is electrifying, their connection and pull towards each other is indescribable.

"I don’t want to be your friend, because I need more than that. Open your eyes woman. I want to be your everything. I always have.”

When life finally lets these two become one, it's not as easy as it should be, they do have obstacles to overcome. These two have loved each other since they were kids, together their strength, love and devotion surely they can conquer what comes their way together.

"I’ve made a ton of mistakes, but there’s one thing that I’ve done right in my life, and that’s loving you. Brooks"

Love Survives is one of those books you want to continue to talk about in a review, we could both sit here all day giving you a play by play and sharing so many of the lines we just adored in this book. It's books like this that make us glad we have each other to read with, we are extremely fortunate enough to have beta read this amazing book and let us tell you it was not an easy thing to do. There were so many times we were messaging each other in tears over particular chapters. It felt like life went on hold while we were reading this book, we were so wrapped up in this amazing story, Brooks feelings and devotion for Katy was miraculous.

Kayla- I never at any point in the book felt like I had already read it; even though I knew what was coming and how it ended I still felt like I was experiencing a new book. That proves how talented Jenn is at what she does.

"I felt like it was a miracle; like you’d come back from the dead to save me from myself.”

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

I have been waiting for this book for what feels like forever. I really loved Love's Suicide and felt like the biggest thing missing was Brooks' POV. I wanted to see inside his head, and also see what he experienced when he was away from Kat. This book was such an emotional read for me, and I think I felt the story so much deeper this time around. I didn't think it was possible for me to love Brooks any more than I already did, but Jennifer Foor proved me wrong with Love Survives. Brooks was even better than I had known, and this book was beautiful yet heartbreaking.

Love Survives is the same story as Love's Suicide, but we are seeing it from Brooks rather than Katy this time around. While there isn't a ton of new content, we do get to see several things we didn't before. While Kat was on her own after leaving Branch, we didn't get to see what Brooks was going through overseas. This time however we got to see all of the horrors that Brooks was experiencing first hand. We got to see him writing in his journal as a way to cope and his letters to Katy. While I didn't expect him to be celibate (especially since Katy wasn't either) it was hard to see him with the other girls. I understood his need for some companionship and comfort though, and he and Katy weren't together so it wasn't cheating.

I have to say that I felt so much more emotionally invested in this story than the first book. While the first book was emotional for me and I felt for the characters, we didn't really get to see all the pain that Brooks had felt. This book was very hard to get through at times because of that. I felt so badly for Brooks because he had been in almost a constant state of pain since he was twelve years old. He had loved Katy so much and so deeply, and it really tore me apart to see him give that up because of Branch. I think I ended up hating Branch even more after this book, because we really got to see how thoroughly he messed with Katy and Brooks. The worst part is that Branch didn't really seem to be sorry for what he had done. He was jealous and wanted to take what he could so that Brooks wouldn't have it, and he never really seemed to feel any remorse. Katy and Brooks were always meant to be together and that was even more obvious after reading this story. These two had gone through so much, and yet they could never fight what was between them. Their connection was undeniable and these two would never have fully worked with anyone else.

I loved seeing Brooks with his daughter in this book. He was adorable with her before, but I really loved seeing his thoughts and feelings upon first meeting her. Brooklyn stole his heart instantly, and Brooks could not have been a better father. Brooks and Katy were great together, but B completed them. Their family was so special, and I just loved seeing them finally get the happy ending that they deserved. While I really loved this book and seeing it through Brooks' POV, I only gave it four stars because I would have liked to have seen a bit more new content. Much of this book was what we already knew but just from a different angle. I would have liked the epilogue to have been longer, or maybe seen a bit further into the future and down the road in their lives. I still really loved this book though, and I think that if you have read the first book then you will absolutely want to read this one! If you haven't read these yet, I definitely recommend them. Jennifer Foor is a really great writer and she always delivers emotional and heartfelt stories. Parts of her books are heartbreaking, but she always gets her characters where they need to be in the end. Brooks and Katy and their little girl will always have a special place in my heart, and I know that I will read their story again in the future. I can't wait to see what else Jennifer Foor does in the future.

Readers who read the previous book in this series, Love's Suicide, will already have an inkling of what to expect from this book. For those new to this emotionally intense read you'll be put through the wringer to see the actions of that story in a whole new light as told from the perspective of Brooks. While you can read this book on its own you'll find a more well-rounded and emotionally compelling story by reading both books as there's lots of thoughts and feelings not spoken aloud. On its own, this book kept me fully immersed in the dangerous world and hidden pain Brooks went through and left me conflicted by all the sacrifices he made to make Katy happy. On a whole I was enthralled by this story's constant twists and turns but frustrated by those things too.

Brooks has loved Katy since he was a boy but was led astray by a brother who's far less chivalrous than him, who kept him from telling Katy how he felt. He always felt he was the lesser twin to the more outgoing Branch which had him stepping aside as his bother laid a claim instead. This left Brooks pining for her for years with running away to the Army his only chance at peace. With one last chance to claim her before her wedding though he makes a questionable choice that leads to big ramifications and even more pain in his future. Returning home a wounded man, both physically and emotionally, he's desperate to fix all that's broken in his family and finally form a relationship with Katy based on truth. Brooks's love for Katy was undeniable and he would do anything to make her happy even if it hurt him. While this is romantic it's also a bit sad as Brooks was a good guy who deserved a more worthy woman than the fickle Katy. His love blinded him and led him to poor choices and lots of emotional self-flagellation. I was drawn to his supportive side though which was always there for Katy when she needed a shoulder to cry on, but on a whole he left me hot and cold as he could've grasped his happiness much sooner if he'd only been more assertive.

Thankfully Katy was often in the background in this story as her actions left many people in ruin. She was emotionally manipulative as I felt she played with Brooks's feelings. She believed Branch's lies despite the connection she always had with Brooks. Her poor choices led to even more heartbreak and her distracting nature put Brooks in jeopardy when he ran off to war. As a heroine, she was frustrating and I'd hoped for better for Brooks as he deserved someone just as committed to him as he was to her.

While this story left me frustrated, the characters still pulled me in with their twisted web of lies, heartbreak, and emotional tug of war. The main characters made me angry at times as well as become a bit misty-eyed which kept me turning the pages despite my frustration. That shows how talented Ms. Foor is in that I kept reading against my will. Surrounding these two flawed yet compelling main characters is a cast of secondary characters that add to the emotional highs and lows. They too didn't always do the right things but their actions took us one step closer to Brooks finally getting the girl of his dreams. Ms. Foor has crafted another intensely emotional read that challenged and frustrated me but left me satisfied once the final page was turned.

Love hurts, but it survives as long as there’s faith, hope, and steadfast commitment. But, sometimes, regardless of how much effort is put into making a relationship work, fate steps in and plays its role – a role that can destroy as well as heal…imprison as well as free.

Love Hurts, book one in Jennifer Foor’s Love’s Suicide series, teaches readers that true love never really dies…it just has to find the perfect time to LIVE! That message is illustrated even further in Love Survives, Brooks Valentine’s point of view, as we are given insight into his true thoughts and feelings as he stands on the sideline and watches his brother with the woman he loves, as he endures years of fighting in a war that almost destroys him both physically and mentally, and as he works to claim the woman who has always been his and fights to put the past behind them and make up for the years of miscommunication and lies.

I didn’t know what to expect from Brooks’ side of the story. I knew it would be more than a simple retelling of the events that tore him and Katy apart and brought them back together. With the amount of time spent apart, there was a significant gap to fill in, and this is where Jennifer Foor delivers such a poignant and heartbreaking story, even more so than his turmoil experienced with Katy. Through Foor’s words and her ability to portray the debilitating effects of the war on Brooks’ mental state, readers understand the sacrifices of a solider and the demons that can drag him into a darkness that threatens on a daily basis. Brooks’ feelings of pain, anguish, and defeat permeate from the pages and overwhelm the readers as we witness Brooks almost give up by withdrawing and falling apart.

My feelings for Katy in book two fluctuate between frustration and anger, which is interesting to me because I don’t remember having those thoughts about her when I read her point of view, which shows the power of varying perspectives. Both Brooks and Katy have made their fair share of mistakes and shared the consequences due to those choices; both don’t fight hard enough to be with the person they truly want and both allow miscommunication to alienate them from those they love, but for some reason, Brooks’ self-less actions and protective instincts do such a number of him that it’s hard to not blame the woman who forced him into some of those situations.

In my opinion, Love Survives is Brooks’ reflective response to all of the torment and heartbreak he experienced in his life; it’s also, in a way, a love letter to Katy – a way to express everything he never felt strong enough to say out loud. Brooks waited his entire life for Katy – over twenty years of watching her with the wrong brother and away from her while he was at war, thinking of her constantly and hoping for a way for them to be together.

And, somehow through it all, Katy and Brooks’ love survived and even though fate made their path to each other difficult; ultimately, they made it through despite the distance, time, and pain they caused one another.

Love Survives by Jennifer Foor is the second book in the Love Suicide series. I have read the first book in this series, Love’s Suicide. It is from the heroine’s POV. The second book is from the hero’s POV. Love Survives can be read as a stand alone romance.

Out of the two books in this series, each from a different characters POV, I have to say I liked Love Survives better. Love Survives is from Brook’s POV. In my opinion, he was the main focus in this series. He is the one that was loyal to those he loved. He made great sacrifices that led his life in a direction he really didn’t want. He didn’t want to be a soldier. He wanted to build a life with Katy. He left his family and his ruined relationship with his brother behind. Although he was physically absent, his heart and mind still belonged to Katy. His life in the military was miserable. He witnessed horrific acts of war, watched friends die, and disconnected himself from the people that surrounded him. And then the letters from Katy started coming. She gave him hope again.

When he is injured and has to return stateside, he does everything in his power to be stationed near Katy. When his endeavors finally lead him to Katy, he will find that his hopes were all for nothing. Katy has once again deceived and betrayed him. It may have been for what seemed like the right reasons but it was the final straw that finally broke him. Now it is up to Brook to chose his future for himself. Is it with Katy? Or can he finally move on?

When I read the first book, Katy irritated me. When I read the second book, I absolutely hated Katy to the very end. No matter what her reasons were, good or bad, she was a self absorbed individual. She never really proved that she gave her heart completely. She couldn’t make constructive decisions. The decisions she made hurt the one man that would always love her. She about destroyed his family as well. And then her final betrayal was appalling. As a woman, I could not forgive or respect her. I could not understand how Brook could forgive her. She was weak and only truly cared about how she would come out of all the messed up situations. I have to honestly say that she is one of my most hated female characters.

Brook was an incredible person. His heart was pure. He was loyal to the ones he loved. When he made mistakes and betrayed his brother, he paid for it in more ways than the heart. He always forgave Katy even though she didn’t deserve it. When he finally had enough I was rejoicing for him. He stayed true to himself and never intentionally hurt anyone. He was a stand up guy.

Jennifer Foor aptly named this series Loves Suicide. It was an angsty story that was heartbreaking and infuriating. The book is well written and takes the reader on an emotional ride. I would recommend reading this book.

**JEN'S REVIEW**

“This story I’m about to tell you is rocky, It will rip you apart and possibly put you back together again. I know this because it’s my story.”

I knew there was a reason why I loved Brooks so much from the first book. This book totally solidified all those reasons why I fell in love with him in the first place. Love Survives in essence is a retelling of Love’s Suicide but in Brook’s POV. HOWEVER, Jennifer gives us so much more than just a retelling. We get a front row seat into Brook’s head, how he felt and most importantly we get to see what he was up to all those moments from Love’s Suicide when he was gone. If you think you are rereading Love’s Suicide in an alternate POV only, let me reassure you that the parts in Love’s Suicide that you already know are just half of what you really get in this one.

“I won’t sugar coat the details of what I went through to have her, nor will I apologize for any actions that led me right back into Kat’s life.”

Jennifer gives us a very raw and emotional insight into Brook and his life. The story takes us on a different kind of journey where we see how hard life for Brooks really was living in the lies and deceit that his brother orchestrated all so he could have Kat all to himself. We get to see how much Brooks is affected. We really get a very deep understanding to the level of depth his love runs for Katy even though he can’t have her. There are many ugly and emotional moments that happens throughout the course of the story that definitely will keep readers on their toes. Hearing about all that time when Brooks and Kat were apart after that night when they finally were able to be honest with each other was hard to read. All of Brook’s time in the service is gut wrenching at best but honestly it certainly gave me a greater appreciation for people in the military.

“My only focus was to get to her, hold her, and contemplate never letting her go.”

Brooks love for Katy never died not even for a second and I really love how this author gives us that time with him to fully appreciate and understand their story. Brook’s perspective is filled with so much anguish, angst, despair, love, hope and determination. Knowing how this story ended didn’t take away from feeling everything Brooks went through. His heart being shattered and torn apart was really hard. His level of despair and sadness was overwhelming. Jennifer really did an amazing job writing this book and giving us a different spin on a story we all fell in love with. Both books can be read as a standalone but I’d highly recommend reading them in order because you’ll have a greater appreciation for their love story.

“I had to pursue her because I’ve loved that girl since we were children. She’s everything to me.”

CRISTINA'S REVIEW
5 Stars

I enjoy reading from a male’s perspective and was excited to find out that Brooks Valentine’s version from the first book, “Love Suicide (Love Suicide #1)” was coming out! We learn then that when Brooks is in love with you he falls for you HARD…emotionally and physically.

I would have told her after our first kiss that she was going to be my future.

Best friend and his first love, Katy Michaels was the girl Brooks knew was the one for him but being young and naïve he believed that she did not feel that way about him because his twin brother, Branch kept telling him that is what she is always telling him. That in turn held him back constantly in officially declaring his feelings and his brother pursing more of a relationship with her. Though early on, Brooks would sense something more (or hoping) from Katy but nothing more permanent would come from it because his twin brother was always in the way.

"Does he know you’re in love with me?”

However, no matter how much time has past and even being together and engaged with his twin brother the love for her never falters. But how long is to too long to hold out for someone that you cannot have and/or may not feel the same way about you?

"How long have you been in love with me, Brooks?” I smiled. “That question isn’t going to get answered.”

I got to experience a roller coaster of highs and lows on Brooks life since he was still a kid and the emotional heartaches and hardships that he faced. I loved reading from his POV especially since it gave me a better sense of his frame of mind on the decisions in his life making this story come full circle. I was more wrecked and overwhelmed by this beautiful being this time around. Total DIBS on this Military man and his 5 stars book!

LEEANN'S REVIEW

If you have read Love’s Suicide, you will be familiar with The Branch, Brookes & Katy love triangle.
This is the same story but told from Brookes’s POV.
Being from Brookes POV, the only real difference between the 2 books is that we get to see what happened to
Brookes while on his tour of duty & what he went through while he was over there.

It is interesting to see the same events from another book through a different characters eyes.
Jennifer Foor is an absolute star. She writes beautiful love stories and includes just enough of the
right ingredients to make it well worth the read, so, although I had already read this story in Love’s Suicide
she was able to still make it interesting enough for me to want to keep reading until the end.

Even though I knew how the story ended, I still found myself teary while I was reading the last page!!

If you like stories about wrongs being made right no matter the consequences and true love prevailing
then you will most certainly enjoy this story!!

Anyone who reads my reviews knows I cannot resist a male POV , it can be a stand alone , a continuation or a story just retold by him and I will read it !! I love being in the guys head especially when the story is so heartbreaking like this one. I mean Love's Suicide ripped me to shreds , yes I had moments of annoyance and moments of dread but the story as a whole was beautiful and heartbreaking so I know this will be worse because Brooks is such a great guy , so genuine , selfless and everything you want in a guy !! I had said I always wanted to read Love's Suicide again but now I don't have to because I have Love Survives !!

Once again we get the story of Katy , Brooks and Branch. Too cute , the childhood friendship turned into love with twin brothers fighting over their best girl !! Branch was a conniving little SH** right from the start. This time around it seems almost worst , I don't know if it is because we get more details or just because we are getting Brooks suffering but it was horrible and Branch had to gain my forgiveness all over again LOL !! I felt such a connection to Brooks , his emotions , feelings and honesty were just out in the open for all to see. He may not have spoken to many about Katy but it was plain to see by all that he was hurting. Being away overseas with him was crazy. Getting to know his friends and his struggles with the war made him that much more amazing. Brooks has suffered so much and I honestly have to say he is one of the most genuine loving book boys yet !! Even the few things he may have said wrong or actions that may have been questionable really fade away compared to the way others treated him. Learning about B through Brooks eyes was a treat. that little girl just stole my heart over and over again. The description of her , her talking , my imagination when it came to her OMG she was awesome and I loved seeing her through Brooks. He was such a proud and loving dad it was super sweet. So without blabbering on and repeating myself over and over I will say MUST READ !! Brooks deserves your love and devotion !! He is one bad a$$ military man with tats and hotness oozing out of him !! Man he knows how to work it !! Gave me the chills reading about him and the yummy things he could do !!

Love Survives by Jennifer Foor

Katy “Kat” Michaels has had it rough. The lost of her parents on the most horrific time in 2001. She however had the best family to help her pull through it. Branch and Brooks her best friends will always be her favorite people in life. So she thought. Branch was more the funny twin the one who would pick on her since she was young. Brooks was her survivor always caring and loving to Katy. Once they are older Branch wants more he want Katy and he made sure that he had her.

Brooks Valentine loved Kat as long as he can remember. He tried and tried to understand why she picked the wrong brother. He could no longer watch the brother and the woman he loved so he decided to enlist to the Army. The night before Branch & Katy wedding everything become clear and he knows that his life will never be the same.

Jennifer Foor novel titled Love Survives. This novel is Brooks point of view. It will be helpful for the reader to read Love Suicides first. I love this author she is my go to author. Jenn has a way of pulling you in her stories you get to 20% of the kindle asking yourself what else can happen. This writer has a phenomenal writing style. I personally tend to focus on the male character in novels Jenn has a way to make you fall in love with all her characters. And now we get Brooks POV.
What a love triangle. From the prologue, this gripped my heart and wouldn't let go.
Katy was raised by her parents best friends due to the tragedies of 9-11. But, along with her guardians came twin sons, Branch & Brooks, who were there for each other through lifes trials and tribulations.

Falling in love with both brothers and only getting one was a hard choice for Katy. Deciding if she had made the right choice was even harder. Throw in the mix that one brother was fighting for her love and attention in his own messed up way and the other was always by her side. Didn't make for a life of easy choices.

Just when she thought that marrying her long time friend would make everything better, life again through her for a twist. Leaving and starting over was what she felt was best for all involved. Her broken heart wasn't the only thing she left with though.

Starting over in a strange new town proved to be easier then she thought. Finding someone who would be willing and wanting to help her was not what she expected. Bobby was the hometown boy who everyone loved. He did no wrong in their eyes and had his eyes set on Katy the day he met her. Being there for her through thick and thin was his plan. He was falling for her and willing to do what ever to help her. But as they say, things aren't always what they seem behind closed doors.

Brooks fought long enough to keep his distance. Katy knew deep down that she would always love Brooks and needed to find a way back to him. But, Bobby wasn't willing to release her.

Reconnecting with Brooks was more eye opening for him then he anticipated. The shock and awe of it proved to be just what helps them put their lives where they should have been all along. Enough time had been wasted by both. But it didn't come without cost.

This was full of twists and turns and every emotion possible to pull at you. Absolutely amazing book.

Good God Woman! Even though I knew the story of Brooks and Kat, I still was not prepared for reading/hearing it from Brooks POV.

Learning how Brooks dealt with all of Branch's selfish and very callous attitude. Branch really did not deserve to get Katy.

It seemed everyone in the family knew how deep the love Katy and Brooks was, except her!

Seeing how Brooks dealt with the knowledge of being the one who was there for Katy on the anniversary of her parents death, with how he coped with his deployment, with trying to deal with it all on his own, including his colleagues, was quite sad. I was happy that he finally let Trevor in, and they became firm friends, only to loose him during combat. I liked Spense, she was a distraction and that helped him get through the ordeals of loosing the love of his life , and also his best friend, but Brooks also helped Spense through her ordeals.

I loved seeing how distraught Brooks and Kat were once they both realised Kat was marrying Branch, how he was when he thought he was going to get her, but only to have her drive off alone.

He really was struggling once he realised that he and Kat had made a beautiful little girl, I loved how they both bonded and so quickly. Full credit to Brooks, not wanting to step on Bobby's toes even though it was killing him.

So lovely being part of their early reunions and how he always knew what and when to say the right thing.

I also loved the reunion between, Kat and Branch how she handed him a new ass about how selfish he had been and with how Branch took the news.

Its been a real - rip your heart out to have it pieced back together read.

Thanks for letting us have Brooks POV, it could have not been easy to have written, highly emotional I imagine.

This was beautifully written, the characters were all great, Yes even Branch.
