The author takes a small historical instance and researches it quite extensively. The writing in the main is uninspiring, but it does at least maintain a more or less objective tone. Acadia is a too-neglected part of North American history and this book brings to good light the travails of those expelled in 1755 and who eventually arrived in Louisiana. The endurance of the Acadians and Cajuns is an amazing story, a testimony to the power of the past.
