Skylar Reign’s life has been epic since moving to the small town of Willowhope.
His bestie is a psychic medium.
His mentor, a clairvoyant.
And his new interior design business kicked off with a bang.
All he’s missing is for Kingston Porter, his large, grumpy and completely oblivious friend, to realize that he wants to climb him like a tree.
The problem is, Kingston’s dream walking has gone from exploring the creepier parts of their little beach town to being drawn inside the mansion of a man he’s never met before, and it’s starting to consume his every waking thought.
Skylar’s nothing if not an optimist, and he isn’t ready to give up hope. He’s just not sure fate is still on his side.
There’s something more sinister going on than the two men realize, and it’ll take them working together to save the souls being tormented in their dreams.
But with the help of their meddlesome family, a handful of friendly ghosts, and a psychopomp or two, Kingston and Skylar are on the road to becoming the protectors they never knew they were destined to be.
Sammi Cee was raised in a family of readers. Summer vacations consisted of a good book while sitting lakeside from as far back as she could remember. After growing up and having her own children, her appreciation of how the written word could transport you on an adventure, bring you to tears, or give you hope, took on a whole new meaning.
These days Sammi is watching her children develop into fine young ladies while doing the things she enjoys most: drinking coffee, eating chocolate, and writing her own stories.
Sky’s Guide To Getting His Man & Banishing Ghosts is the first book in The Dreamwalkers series by Sammi Cee. It is a spinoff of The Secrets of Willowhope series. This book is about Skylar 'Sky' and Kingston and they are really good together. I loved them and I really liked this book. It's really well written and I can't wait for what the next book brings.
It took a while till I got into it, but as soon as I did, I couldn't put it away. I have to say though, I was confused. I didn't read The secrets of Willowhope series and the ghosts just acted different then I was used too. After a while it became less confusing but at first I was kinda lost. At first I wasn't a big fan of Skylar. I'm just not into very confident extroverted characters, but he really got endearing to me. Kingston though, ugh, what a babe. Seriously, he is a perfect example for my favorite characters, shy, blushing, quiet guys.
I really enjoyed the book and I'm interested in the next one.
I enjoyed this. It’s an expansion of a story already released in the Willowhope Manor series, and starts off its own series following Sky and Kingston as they dreamwalk together to banish spiritual beings. There seems to be a lot of opportunity for this story so I can’t wait to see where it goes next.
First in this series but I missed out on the previous books that led to this delightful spooky romance. I really enjoyed Kingston...his coming to find his own and the truth about his heritage and the crush Skylar has on him. Their back n forth was cute and their eventual bond was wonderful. Their adventures looks like its going to be sweet, sexy and entertaining. I can't wait to read Book 2:)
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
3.5/5 This didn’t quite come together for me the way I wanted, possibly because I was impatient, lol. I know book in a series can’t (and shouldn’t) reveal everything. But for a book that’s titled a “guide”, I didn’t feel like there was any guiding. (It’s also been years since I read the Willowhope books, so maybe having them fresh in mind would help.) We basically time skipped over any discussion that was supposed to share paranormal info, but several times people complained about “how little the MCs know”—but they’re the ones who first chose not to tell them anything and are now supposed to be doing the sharing. So stop complaining and EXPLAIN THINGS.
I was left very confused about the supernatural roles the two MCs had and how they worked together. I’m assuming this will be expanded upon in a future book, but as a newbie like Sky (and Kingsley in some ways), I just couldn’t understand why these knowledgeable people weren’t sharing their knowledge (when they care about the MCs and we know there’s real danger, even if we don’t understand how/why at all).
I had a few nitpicks like the fact that the sword Sky couldn’t hold with one hand was apparently a fencing foil or the fact were suddenly told Sky could summon fire. What? When? (I assume it was in the original series, but it landed weird here, since there’s zero explanation here. I spent most of the book thinking Sky was a magical tether but not otherwise magical and not understanding what he was doing with Elyse.) And I was just sad that Sky didn’t feel comfortable about his freckles or his glasses and always covers them up and wears contacts. I think I needed a bit more time with Sky doing things. (We mostly see him flirting, making things uncomfortable at Willowhope with his cousin, and learning about the dream world’s existence. But what about training, using his abilities, or even being an interior designer? I think that would have helped ground me a bit more.)
I enjoyed the flirty/shy banter a lot, but we hit a point where I couldn’t understand why Sky didn’t simply choose to be direct. (I got why shy Kingsley was holding back.) And Sky’s reticence about Ego needlessly muddied the waters to my mind. (It made Sky seem very young and immature.) I liked the ghosts and the constant interaction between the ghostly and the living, but it felt a bit like we were coming into the middle of an already-established band. (Which I assume we were from series 1.) I found it a very promising world, but I didn’t feel like I was actually getting enough of it. I’m intrigued enough to try book two, though.
I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.
I really enjoy the fun and whimsy style of Sammi's writing along with her always making found family as some sort of component in her books. I love seeing the characters she creates come together and be there for one another no matter what. Seeing as this is a spinoff series we see characters from the original series make frequent appearances throughout this book, which is so amazing! I love that the Scooby Doo gang is back together.
Sky and King themselves are opposites, Sky is outgoing, confident and sassy, whereas King is shy, reserved, and awkward. Both are different but they compliment each other in a really refreshing way. I can relate wholeheartedly to King, I myself am awkward, and shy, so for his character to be like that as well was nice to see. Sky is the perfect partner for King, he helps get the shy man out of his head and convinced him to take risks, whereas King shows Sky how to plan things out more thoroughly and to live life with a bit more caution.
The plot was engaging with different twists and turns that kept me engaged and very interested. I enjoy how in-depth Sammi got with creating/explaining King being a dream walker and how Sky is his tether. I found that to be quite unique and I'm excited to read more about this dreamy pair! (See what I did there?) This does end off with a HFN, so all of the mysteries won't get solved in this first book, it'll continue throughout the series with an overarching plotline. I absolutely adore this cast of characters and I LOVE the Scooby Doo references too, so cute!!
(I received an early copy of this book and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.)
This is a spinoff of The Secrets of Willowhope series; however, the series does not need to be read to understand this story. But if you truly want to feel the dynamics and love of this found family, then highly recommend to read Willowhope. Also, the MCs Skylar and Kingston are first introduced there. Sky and Kingston were complete opposites but so perfect for each other. Sky's sassy sunshiny attitude was exactly what Kingston, the shy sweet gentle giant, needed. There was an instant spark the moment they met but they kept tiptoeing around each other. Truth is it was mostly due to Kingston being completely oblivious of Sky's every attempt to "climb him like a tree" (and boy did Sky try, he was no quitter, lol). Good thing Fate's plans aligned with Sky's and was more than willing to lend a helping hand. Unfortunately, those plans also included creepy evil "ghosts" that needed to be stopped and a few more surprises for this loveable found family (alive and 👻 members). The creepy moments were perfectly balanced out with humor and sweet tender moments. The suspense, action, and twists and turns definitely kept me glued to the book and invested. The world building was detailed without making it boring, especially the intriguing dream walking. It does end with HFN, which means (to me) that the author did not rush and skimp on any of the intriguing storyline. There's just too much to explore and secrets to discover. I'm so happy that I'll be getting more from this wonderful world.
Skylar Reign’s decisions to move to Willowhope and be with his best friend is turning out to be the best decision ever. He is building his dream interior design business; his bestie is a medium; and his mentor is clairvoyant. Now there is just one thing more, Kingston Palmer. Sky must have him in his life. But King is a Dreamwalker. His dreams are becoming increasingly realistic and dangerous. There is something or someone in his dreams that wants him. Sky may be the one to help.
Willowhope is an amazing town. It is filled with spirits, ghosts, and more. Sky is happy here but would be even happier with King more in his life. Both are afraid to express their desires, but soon have no choice. With so many quirky residents, it is no wonder that Sky and King find some signs that they should be together. Once in, there is still some trepidation, but both men know they need each other and the residents of Willowhope if they are to survive. While there is legitimate danger, this is a story that will delight and amaze the reader. This book may be over but the story is not. There is more to come and how happy are we!! If you like paranormal, danger, some heat and a few twists, Sky’s Guide to Getting his Man and Banishing Ghosts is perfect for you. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
The story struck me as truly tender and sweet, with a heartwarming quality that makes it very easy to connect with the characters right from the start. However, it doesn’t rely solely on sweetness; there’s also a subtle touch of mystery woven into the plot, which keeps the reader intrigued and turning the pages almost without noticing the passage of time. On top of that, the narrative is sprinkled with moments of humor that bring freshness and lightness, making the reading experience both entertaining and engaging.
It’s the kind of book you can read quickly, yet it leaves behind a pleasant aftertaste, like the feeling of having spent time in good company. At this point, I’m really eager to dive into the other characters’ stories, because I feel the need to get to know the family they’ve built in its entirety before moving forward with the rest of the series.
One thing I always admire about Sammi Cee is her ability to convey tenderness not only toward her protagonists but also toward every little detail of her plots. Her stories carry a cozy, comforting atmosphere—like a literary refuge you want to return to again and again. In short, this book is a quick, heartwarming, and delightful read that leaves you wanting more, ready to continue the adventure alongside Sky and King.
This is the first book in The Dreamwalkers Series and it is off to a great start. This series is a spinoff from The Secrets of Willowhope series but you can read this book as a standalone read. This is the story of Skylar Reign and Kingston Porter. We have met them already in the earlier series but this book the focus is on them. Sky and Kingston are complete opposites but perfect for each other. Sky is sunshine and happiness. He lights up the room when he enters. Kingston is a sweet gentle giant who prefers to be in the background. He is shy and awkward. He is also a dreamwalker. When the two meet, there is immediate attraction. Sky wants to "climb Kingston like a tree" at first blush. Luckily Kingston is oblivious to Sky's attempts to lure Kingston. Mainly because Kingston can't believe someone like Sky would want him. This is their story. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. This book is well written and easy to read. I enjoyed learning about their found family and the home that they are creating. Of course there are some twists and turns along the way. They book ends with a HFN as the series will continue with more of their adventures. I enjoyed this book.
Sky’s Guide To Getting His Man & Banishing Ghosts (The Dreamwalkers Book One)
So I received an arc for books one and two of this spin-off series (not realizing I had already snagged book one) and didn’t get very far in when Sky mentioned Chance and Jetty, and a thing that happened. And I’m like, okay, I feel like I’m missing out here so I checked Sammi’s backlist to see if there was another series and lo and behold, yes, there is, and total score, I actually have books one and two and won book three in a giveaway. So I totally had to read those first and I’m kind of kicking myself for not reading them sooner.
It’s been a whirlwind the last three days reading the other series and I totally loved them and can also totally see this as a series of movies.
I think technically you could read this as a stand-alone series but trust me, you should really dive in to the first series first. It enhances the world building and story telling so much to have that background knowledge first.
Highly recommend. Best enjoyed in series order starting with Willowhope Manor.
I received a free copy of this book (although I read the zon version) from Gay Romance Reviews and am voluntarily leaving a review. Now for book two.
First in series (The Dreamwalkers). Paranormal. Found family. Slow burn. Soulmates. Quick read. Dual POV.
Interior designer Sky has a large sized crush on mutual friend Kingston who happens to be a dreamwalker, and is intent on getting his notice. But even though all the supernatural goings on in the small town of Willowhope are new to Sky, he soon has to jump in to help Kingston with his growing powers, and Kingston is happy to have Sky by his side.
Some familiarity with the author’s series the Secrets of WIllowhope might help but is not necessary as the reader is immediately introduced to the paranormal setting and established group of found family that are support characters to Kingston and Sky. This story is a sweet and scary beginning for Kingston and Sky, whose mutual attraction is something much deeper and who immediately feel connection and joy with each other as they encounter their first dangerous adventure. The “Scooby gang” they are surrounded by are important as helpful friends and family, but it really is the moments between Kingston and Skylar that make the story resonate. Looking forward to more from this series.
I’ve been on this ride since the beginning, watching these two meet for the first time, Sky falling in love and King being so unaware but this story gives us the insight of how he was feeling the whole time. King and Sky are freaking adorable and yeah their relationship is just starting but it’s already something special and built on the friendship they’ve built since meeting. The found family they’ve surrounded themselves with is beautiful, they’ve always got each others back and now they’ve included Sky's cousin, can’t wait to see how he reacts when he finds out about ghost if we see more of him and I have a feeling we will. 😉
This was the perfect beginning to their story and I love how Sammi flawlessly intertwines her stories and how they just grab ahold of you so you feel like you’re apart of the world with them. I really enjoyed the reference to RIPP (hoping that means we’ll get another story in that world sometime soon). Sammi does amazing work and I can’t wait to see what she brings us next. ❤️😁
Going into this book I had not read The Secrets of Willowhope series, however through out this story I did not feel that I was missing out on anything, everything that was important to know was explained. Skylar was so full of life, a ray of sunshine, he has embraced everything thrown at him since he has moved to Willowhope. Although the one person he wants is Kingston, the complete opposite to Skylar and whilst Kingston is totally ignorant to this, fate isn't. This was an enjoyable read and the worldbuilding was excellent. The scenes were described in detail and I could easily imagine scene by scene. The unique skill of dream walking that Kingston had me excited to see what would happen and the part Skylar had to play. I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes and getting more of Skylar and Kingston and I am going to read The Secrets of Willowhope series as I loved all the characters and ghosts
I was confused and lost more time than I should've. There are so many characters and references from Willowhope trilogy (which I haven't read), that I didn't know what they were talking about and why people felt the way they did. So truthfully I think you'd be better off reading the Willowhope trilogy first. That being said it was a good, short story. I liked Kingston (King) and Skylar (Sky) together. It was fun to watch them dance around each other. I liked how Sky dealt with Ego and his introduction. It showed his mischievous side. I liked the paranormal/fantasy aspects. I didn't like that King's grandparents (Rosie and Lee) were and still are keeping secrets from him. I also didn't like Sonny. He was just an AH for no reason. I wanted more time with King and Sky together. Time with their friends. Time with the dreamwalking part. The sexy times are few, late in the book and quick. We're left hanging with their knowledge and training with their relationship at HFN.
Great start to a new series. You can start with this series without having read The Secrets of Willowhope series, but I recommend you don't as you meet these awesome characters. Skylar is the cutest and he has his eyes set on Kingston who is so very shy. Kingston doesn't think that someone like Sky could ever like someone like him. So, it turns out that King is a dream walker, and his grandmother knew about it but has held off revealing this to him. She also hasn't revealed who she is & what she & his deceased grandfather were able to do. By the end of the first book, our MC's have started to learn more of what they can do & what each other means to the other. Off to read then next book as there is something going on in this town & I can't wait to see where this goes. I also hope that Ego gets his own book as he needs love.
I received a copy of this book from GRR, and this is my honest review.
Sky and King are already established characters in the Willowhope universe, so although this book is all about them, it might be helpful to read at least the first in the previous linked series to get a proper feel for Willowhope town, the manor and the found family / spooky vibes.
As for Sky and King, they're great characters leaning into the opposites attract trope, which totally works for me. Sky’s pursuit of King is relentless - he's not even a tiny bit subtle about it, but King is more shy, reserved and generally more unsure of himself than the smaller firecracker chasing him. These guys just balance each other out beautifully.
And there are secrets! Family secrets are revealed on both sides of this budding relationship which are going to shape the story of the following installments in the Dreamwalkers series. I'm looking forward to book 2. 4*
An ARC was provided by GRR. This is my honest review.
Sky’s Guide to Getting His Man & Banishing Ghosts is the first I’ve read by this author. I liked getting to know Sky and King. Their characters are well-developed and interesting, and I can see them carrying the load of this new series. I wish I had known that this was a spinoff from another series so that I could have read it before starting this one. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if I had had the backstories for a lot of the characters appearing in both series. The magical storyline that Kingston and Skylar found themselves thrown into kept my attention, and I was waiting with bated breath for the action at the end. I would have liked to see more of the paranormal aspects pertaining to this specific book, but what was there was well done. I am pleased with King and Sky’s budding relationship. They have great chemistry, both physical and emotional, and I am satisfied with their HFN. I look forward to more from this author.
I thought that this was going to be the first book in a new paranormal series, and it is…sort of. It’s really a continuation of the Secrets of Willowhope three books series. Overall Cee does a great job of catching the reader up during the first 30-40% of the book, and to some extent it really feels like it’s also laying the ground work for the next book. Definitely a satisfying HFN without a significant cliffhanger, I do think you can start here since the focus is less on the inhabitants of Willowhope Manor (but they’re definitely connected to it), though now I really do want to go back and read the first set as well because I want to get to know chance and jetty. But i digress. There’s enough characters that we haven’t got the deepest of dives into our two MCs but again I think there’s more to come in book 2. Overall an interesting read and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
Sky has had a thing for Kingston since coming to live by his friends now running Willowhope Manor, yet Kingston seems to not see it or want anything to do with it. Well, the fates don’t see that as a choice and continue to push these men together, until Kingston is able to see Skys true intentions. Fate has intertwined all these men’s lives to start them on this journey to help those who need it. Neither man is truly prepared for what is coming, but with the guidance of those before them, they will in time be able to overcome these odds. This was a great introduction to Sky & Kings arc to this universe, showing how expansive this series has the potential of becoming. Prior reading is not necessary but recommended to understand the full scope of the relationships of the inhabitants of Willowhope Manor. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My review is solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
A great start to a spin off series. I have not read the Secrets of Willowhope series and I had no issues with this story. Any background and connections are explained well and did not detract from the story. Though I am interested now to go back and read them. Sky and Kingston were so cute. Kingston is shy, awkward, and more introverted. Whereas Sky is extroverted, sassy, and confident. They are opposites and perfect for each other. Their connection is undeniable from the beginning and eventually with some push from friends and family and some funny situations they are able to create a true bond. Also with the support of the “Scooby gang” around them they start on their new ghostly adventures. This story is fun, interesting, has great characters, and does end with a HFN. I’m really excited to see what adventures they’re going to have next!
1. I'm just so happy that Sammi Cee has returned to the world of Willowhope Manor to fill in the details in Sky and Kingston's relationship. 2. Friends to lovers with a totally oblivious character is my favorite use of this trope. Lightbulb moment for the win. One of the recurring themes in Sammi Cee's stories is found family. It just tickles my fancy that not all members of this found family are alive. But they're supportive. King is so introverted and Sky is so... not. But they bring out the best in each other, their personalities mesh so well. And no, we're not getting a HEA yet. Lot's more relationship to explore. Lot's of mystery to solve. And since we're in a familiar universe, hoping to see not only Jetty and Chance, but Harry and Buck too. I received an advanced copy of this story and this is my review.
My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If not, I respect your opinion. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous.
It started a bit confusing because this is a spin-off of another series. I wish authors were not so full of themselves to think everyone had read all of their books, especially since it is not welcoming to first-time readers. If you overlook that, the story and mystery are good, nothing gory, not super scary. The characters are lovable, even people I personally won't like. I didn't mind them on page. I think the only character I did not quite like was the grandmother because she is a bit full of herself and a bit disrespectful, so someone needs to slap her down a notch. Overall, I really enjoyed the read and will be looking forward to the next book!
First of all this is a spinoff of the Willowhope trilogy. While you could read this as a standalone, you will enjoy Sammi’s newest more, if you read that trilogy first. But yes, we get part of Sky and Kingston’s journey, respectively Chance and Jetty’s best friends. Sky is our fabulous open book interior designer while our sweet Kingston is guarded. We find out why. To be honest I do not care for his grandparents, too many secrets, too vague. I’m hoping they get put a bit in their place in the next story. But this one is still lovely. Kingston and Sky are so good together. The mystery is creepy, carrying over to the next book. Of course we get to see our friends at Willowhope but Sammi adds more to this found family. Oh, I think we get the setup for the next couple after Kingston and Sky get their HEA!
I love Willowhope, such a good group of quirky characters, with so much love for each other.
Skylar has his sights set on Kingston, the quiet and gentle mountain of a man. But sweet Kingston cannot believe for the life of him that the vibrant and outgoing Skylar could be interested in him, so he doesn’t even entertain the notion. But fate has other ideas.
But they have to get out of their own way and find out a few truths for their chance at love, and what is bound to be a fascinating future.
This intriguing plot encompasses amazing characters and thorough world building. I haven't read the Willowhope series, but I was able to enjoy this book nonetheless. I loved how Skylar and Kingston are opposites and they work so well together. The community they live in is fascinating, especially the ghosts and Kingston's grandmother. They have to deal with some scary stuff, but they have each other, their found family and many heartfelt moments. I'm keen to read the Willowhope series to get more of the background on the characters. The MCs get a HFN ending; I'm looking forward to the next book to see where things go from here. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is book one in the author’s new Dreamwalkers series featuring Sky—exuberant, outgoing, hot for King, golden retriever, Sky.
I hate to admit it but I accidentally read book two first😬. What? The covers are so similar and both titles start the same! Sure, once or twice I wondered about something going on but I just assumed it had been addressed in the previous series but it was always something so minor that I was able to get enough information from the text to figure it out. When I realized it and came back to read this one to catch up, first of all, I loved the story, it was fun in a funhouse sort of way (you know, fun but a little creepy too?) but I was a little disappointed at the actual romance. It was extremely low heat but the reasoning behind it is clear, I just wanted more. Don’t worry though, this one allows Sky and King to get to know each other so that the storyline is set up for book two… but don’t stop here. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger or anything, it ends naturally but it’s definitely not finished either. I’m not sure if that makes sense but I can’t think how else to say it. Anyway, even though you COULD read book two as a standalone, you’ll get a much clearer picture, and way more enjoyment, by reading this one first so check it out. 4.25 stars
I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow, what a fantastic book. My mind is blown. It isn't long, but it packs a punch. How Sammi Cee comes up with stories like this is beyond my ken. The storyline is so clever.
Skylar has moved to Willowhope to open his own interior design business. Willowhope has ghosts, witches, mediums, and dreamwalkers. And it doesn't faze Skylar. He is hot for Kingston, a local township clerk. He's the type of person who goes after what he wants. Kingston grew being the weird kid, so he's painfully shy. He's also a dreamwalker.
I really enjoyed myself reading this book. It's a HFN, and I can't wait for the next one. Easily recommended.
What a great start to a new series. We have met both Sky and Kingston in the Willowhope books but this is all for them. Skylar has a huge crush on Kingston and has been trying to get his attention. Kingston lives with his grandmother and has been having a lot of bad dreams. She always gives him hot chocolate with some other herbs to help him sleep. What Kingston doesn’t know is that his grandmother is a high priestess. As she starts letting Kingston know more of his abilities and that Skylar is his mate. I am hoping for more books with Sky and Kingston as they learn more about their abilities.
It taks a village. Skylar, is living his dream building his interior design business. Skylar, has found his tribe in his found family made up of his bf a psychic medium, and ghosts. Skylar's secret crush, Kingston. Kingston is being pulled into dangerous dreamscapes that pose unexpected dangers. There is an extraordinairy danger lurking that everyone can feel. Sammi's strongest talent is the characters and relationships they create. The enemy, is strong and will need everyone to work together. Great story absolutely enjoyable, nice cover art! I redceived an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
