As early as middle-school, I was interested in writing. I tried to write a novel titled, "That Boy Rik." It wasn't until after God delivered me from being a child abuser and also healed our dysfunctional marriage that I wrote for publication. First an article telling my story published in 1978, and then telling my story in a book published in 1984. Now, my 58th book was just published: "God's Intriguing Questions: 60 New Testament Devotions Revealing Jesus's Nature" co-written with my husband, Larry. We are parents, grandparents, writers, authors, speakers, and lay counselors. We've traveled the world speaking and ministering. We love sharing with others the hope and trust we can have in God who is faithful. We live in Southern California.

What an awesome scriptural toolbox for growing in a successful Christian life! Kathy Collard Miller and her husband, Larry Miller have co-authored ‘Never, Ever Be the Same’. One of the best summaries of what the reader will come to understand and grow through is: “The Wound creates a Message of Wrong Beliefs and Distorted Images, resulting in a Vow, creating a Sinful Strategy, and when the Strategy is threatened we become Hooked.” Basically, when we have negative reactions to similar situations, something/ someone from our past has Wounded us enough that we build a coping mechanism. Usually that is a Sinful Strategy that hurts us by keeping us from having an authentic walk with Jesus and hurts those who are witnesses, or recipients, of our behaviors.

Most of us have been hurt at one time or another, but not all of us have been able to live free of continually reacting to similar behaviors. The authors help the reader by means of scripture and personal examples to identify the reason we do what we do, and show how to let the Lord to heal us. What the authors have learned and share with us, is Repentance, Surrender, and the Process of Growth.

It is not a set of special formulas. ‘Never, Ever Be the Same’ is what the Miller’s live every day after taking a sabbatical from ministry to meet with a soul-care provider and work on themselves. They spent countless hours studying, seeking God in prayer, and seeking His loving correction. They demonstrate the Biblical path to freedom to live a life of obedience and holiness before God. They will look at their distorted responses to situations for the rest of their lives. I believe the Lord has gifted them with a way of life that they share here, and I believe that this way of life, being according to Scripture, can help countless Christians.

For those of us who are addicted to any person or substance, or were abused or neglected, this is the gift of a God-pleasing way to understand our behaviors. As a veteran of twelve-step groups and one who has struggled with why I do what I do, I wish I had this book in hand several years ago! I could immediately identify with “Sucking Mud from the Cistern of Ungodliness” rather than the pure, living waters of the Holy Spirit, and knew this is a book the Lord wanted me to use. I studied several chapters, used some as a daily devotional, and will finish studying it because I believe it works. This reader is tired of going to the Lord with the same old laundry list of sins, and wants to pursue holiness rather than perceived happiness. Sometimes I now look for the motive and the initial Wound that I used to justify the Vow that resulted in the Strategy that I hoped would work to protect myself from ‘something’. Identify the Wrong Beliefs and Distorted Images, especially those that led me to run from the Lord and bury the childhood faith that would have sustained me had I understood how to seek the Lord consistently.

This study is a keeper, to be read, studied, re-read, and loaned to others. I highly recommend ‘Never Ever be the Same’ to Christians who want to work through their challenges into a healthy, trusting walk with God and other people of faith, and to those in twelve step groups who want to know why they do what they do and how to stop doing them in a tested and tried scriptural approach to wholeness. It is absolutely worth the read, and the study.

With a grateful heart, I received a copy of this book through the “For Readers Only” group at The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own, and no monetary compensation was received for this review.

Great breakdown of the subtle but powerful struggles we have in life. The book could also be titled, “what to do about your lack of self-awareness”. Some great info on dealing with your own wounds from your past and how to surrender them to God. It also gives insight into the nature and behavior of people you don’t understand and find manipulative, controlling, and toxic. I’m finding that behind every relational conflict is a story of pain and hurt that is revealing itself from deep below the surface of a person’s life and a reflection of a troubled past. I’m coming to realize I’d probably think, say and do the same thing if I had what happened to them ... have happen to me. Learning Jesus grace and love are greater than a wounded past.

Never Ever Be the Same: A New You Starts Today

About the Book:

Have you ever proclaimed, "I will never be the same" about something in your life you absolutely wanted to change? This book will not only help you say it, but also make the statement a reality and it can start today.

About the Authors:

KATHY COLLARD MILLER and LARRY MILLER, who were high school sweethearts, married in 1970 and had no idea the journey God had for them. Almost divorced after seven years of marriage, God healed their marriage and opened doors for writing and speaking. Larry has eight published books; Kathy, fifty. Larry teaches men's Bible studies and is a retired police lieutenant. Kathy is a member of AWSA (Advanced Writers and Speakers Association) and CAN (Christian Authors Network). They are lay counselors. Their website is LarryAndKathy.com. The Millers have two grown children, one grandson, and live in Southern California.

My Review:

Change is inevitable in this life. Good change, bad change doesn't matter it can NOT be avoided. Sometimes during that change we have a hard time and can actually repeat patterns that we have always done that usually get us nowhere. This book can be used to address things such as this. We all know we need to confront the problem, but what do we do to change? And how can we be reacting that may be creating issues to begin with? These are just some of the questions this book may be able to answer and in doing so could change your life forever and for the better.

In Never Ever Be The Same, the authors take real life issues and situations and use them as a catalyst for change for us all. some of us react mainly out of fear. But today true freedom can be found within the pages of this book. When we leave God out of our reasons for being afraid or even angry that is when things go terribly wrong. In the beginning of the book the authors discuss how events from our past, without us realizing it can create problems for us in the future.

With it's insightful helps and encouraging words Never Ever Be The Same is surely a read that will cause you to think twice about reacting negatively and it spurs you on to live in freedom.

“Have you ever proclaimed, “I will never be the same” about something in your life you absolutely wanted to change? This book will not only help you say it, but also make the statement a reality—and it can start today.

Never Ever Be the Same by Kathy Collard Miller and Larry Miller empowers Christians to look honestly at their motives and break free from the lies that fuel sinful patterns. We all respond in ungodly ways at times. We try to figure out why we fail in our words and reactions and even pray for God’s help, but before we know it, we’ve succumbed again to distrusting God and taking it out on other people.”

The opening lines of this book say it all… “All of us have reasons for what we do. They are reasons, not excuses. God wants to make a difference in our lives by unearthing the underlying causes.” This particular chapter goes on to teach about identifying how and why we often times respond to situations in ungodly ways. Other chapters include repentance, surrender and learning that the heart is where the underlying cause of our ungodly reactions arise.

By using biblical principles and personal stories, the authors help us as we begin to discover how to bring to light the underlying causes of our sin while we trust God with our inner man transformation.

Forgiveness, Grace, and a New Life

Larry and Kathy Miller have written a truly enlightening book. Through stories of their own lives and by using Biblical examples, they lead the reader to a new purpose and a better life. Our past shapes our present, and this book teaches us how to change our future for the better by trusting God to transform our lives.

Each chapter of the book ends with discussion questions which help the reader to better understand themselves and to learn how to apply the concepts of the book to their own lives. The way to "A New You" must begin with turning away from being self-serving. We must surrender our heart to God, trust His purpose, and follow His lead.

This book gets the reader started on a journey which allows the Holy Spirit to guide our steps as we continue through life. By applying the teachings in the book, we really will never be the same. Through the process of repentance and surrender, we can learn to grow in our relationship with the Lord. We can find more joy in life with God as our foundation.

If you desire healing in your life and wish to discover the way to contentment and peace, you need to read this book. It truly is life-changing!

I have just finished reading this book and I will "Never Ever be the Same". This book has already changed my life, and I still want to delve into it further. I thought it was excellently written, so easy to understand, so easy to follow, just an overall great book.
Kathy and Larry Miller start off by asking the question "Why Do I do What I Do". They don't just ask you this question, they explain what it means to us by giving their life experiences. ?Their questions to you make you want to learn why you do these things you never want to do. And you can learn this and much more from their study. They also use examples of others they have met and counseled and numerous scriptures from the Bible.
By the time you get through this book you will also know The Hook, The Wound, The Message, The Vow, and the Strategy. After you learn all about these you will then be filled in with Repentance, Surrender and the final Process. At the end of each Chapter are study questions that speak right to your heart, to help you understand yourself better and how to get through this process.
This is not one of those heavy study questions book, it makes you feel lighter, more free, and more in tune with God's promises for you. I recommend it highly.

"Never Ever Be The Same" is a life changing book. Not only for myself personally, for my walk with the L-rd. I agree completely with Katie's Review. I couldn't express myself any better.

I was at a Women's Bible Study and Kathy was speaking. I have now seen her twice and I am so thankful to her. By her honesty and her past mistakes, she is helping other people learn to be better people and give our children better lives. This book and the scripture they use has strengthened me so much. I have much less anxiety than I use to. Many times we think we understand situations, and I'm sure to a degree we do, only Kathy and Larry lay out their teaching in such a way that we reader's understand and are able to apply it to our lives. Not only that, we have the Bible as a reference! Who could want for more?

I totally encourage everyone to read this book. None of us are perfect and many times we just don't see some of our flaws. Sometimes we don't know quite how to correct a flaw. Maybe we don't know which Bible verse to read to encourage us. All the information one needs to begin an improved life is in this book.

Thank you Kathy and Larry for this incredible book and your honesty. The L-rd is using you both in the lives of many. G-d bless!

Never Ever Be the Same is a book that will help you to Never Ever Be the Same. It teaches us that we react to certain situations in certain ways for reasons that maybe we don't even understand Why? we do it. However, through using their own and others life experiences, the authors help us dive deeper within to find our answers. They then show us how to overcome this way of reacting and change how we do things for the better.

Through their stories and encouragement, one comes to understand that by leaving God out of our reasons and reactions that is when we have problems. But it is our fear, anger, or past experiences that propel us to do what we do every day. If we take the time to bring God back, we find that we can change how our actions are in the future.

Great read. I do plan to go back and re-read and really stop to think about the follow up questions at the end of each chapter. I received this book through Bookfun.org in exchange for my honest review.

"Never Ever Be the Same" is an excellent book. This is not one of your heavy, hard-to-read study books. The authors have written in such a way that it is very easy to read and apply to your life. There are also stories woven throughout the book to keep your attention.

This book centers around your motives and why sometimes we act in a sinful way. We always say we're going to change but that rarely happens. Larry and Kathy Miller show us how different experiences and ways we learned as a child could be making us act and react a certain way. They show us how we can change those life experiences into acting and reacting in a way that is pleasing to God.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. This is a must-read to keep handy. I also plan on reading it more depth later on. I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinion.

Biblical insight, a realistic approach, a step by step approach in dealing with sin, this book will help you know how to approach your life in dealing with the things that keep you from running your race strong. Want change? Is something holding you in your life and you can't break free from it? Are you looking to understand where you sin stems or maybe you cannot pin point where your sin starts, this book gives great insight and allows you to learn to listen to God in an more intimate way. I found this book to be extremely helpful and would be awesome for a small group to walk through together as it would be an awesome tool for accountability. I think this book is awesome. A NEW you is Waiting! Don't wait to pick this up!

This book was a really great read. It was easy to relate to and easy to see how to incorporate the themes into your own life. I especially enjoy how each of the chapters end with having questions for discussions and reflections. It helps you to look introspectively at your own life and find out the real reasons why you react the way you do. The motive is to change, for good, and that with God is the only way in which long term change can be a reality. I highly recommend this book for anyone, especially for those who want a real, long term change.

This booked WOWS me. It is very well written and practical. It tackles many issues that all of us have and then helps you grow. True to the title, this is a life-altering book. Most of us spend so much of our lives trying to figure it out that we miss out on life. This book helps to shorten that growth period. It is written with wisdom and honesty. Never Ever Be the Same is a great choice for personal study as well as for small groups. I am impressed with the quality and value it gives. I highly recommend this book.

This book lives up to the title. And it is impossible to be the same after reading this book. I like how the Bible is incorporated into each point. Each chapter includes some great reflection and group discussion questions. It is a really thought provoking book. Some of the points hit too close to home and drew me into reading the entire book. Through reading this book, as promised in the description, Never Be the same points out underlying causes of sin and focuses on how to trust God more for inner transformation.
