This gorgeous story of instant connection, separation, trauma, healing and love really got me in the feels.

When star hockey player Marek meets popstar Nikki at a hockey event, despite his rules of living a fun and light life because you don't know how long you're here for, he falls head over heels for her. They agree to see how things go, but their schedules conflict, and they drift out of contact. On New Year's Eve, Marek's resolution is to get over Nikki - until he finds out there has been a terrible disaster at one of her shows. Frantic to know she's okay, he turns up at her condo - and finds a broken shell of the girl he knows. To get her away from the lurking paparazzi, he takes her back to his place - and slowly tries to help her process her trauma. But will she be able to move past it, and if she does, will it be with Marek at her side?

The characters in this novel, despite being a hockey star and popstar, so not in my same air breathing range at all, are actually quite relatable when you break them down. Having been through his own trauma, Marek knows that Nikki needs the right support, but his own experience misinforms his intentions. He was surrounded by every type of help he could possibly need, which left him in a position of not recognising his own mantra for life is as flawed as Nikki's perfectionism. His determination to allow her to heal is admirable, but he doesn't get it quite right. And that's the most natural thing in the world - because nobody is perfect, the lesson he is hoping that Nikki will learn. That perfectionism she feels is so utterly relatable for me. I have spent my life fearing I am letting people down, in anything and everything I do. As a star musician, she has a lot more people to feel she is letting down than I ever will, so I winced, a lot, as her story progressed, knowing just how I feel now, and how utterly amplified it would be for her.

The pacing of this novel is really well thought out. Their meeting is a love at first sight thing for Marek, who even until act three isn't sure he believes in love at all, and it's adorable watching him struggle with the concept on their own personal rollercoaster ride to coupledom. He knows he hates being without her - but can't bring himself to acknowledge that it is truly love he feels, because that doesn't fit with his 'live fast in case of short life' ethos. When Nikki takes flight after seeing her parents, all the hard fought progress she has made under his care is torn down, but she's unwilling to accept the love that's clearly there, because she doesn't think she deserves it. That hit really hard for me too. The pacing really allows us to see that healing is far from linear - and that is particularly true for Malek.

Mabel is my A grade supporting character! She is a little piece of magic. Unashamedly herself, she manages to say and do all the right things. She has the ability to get to the crux of exactly where both Marek and Nikki are going wrong, and isn't afraid to tell them. Without Mabel, the final act doesn't come about, so she is the true hero of this book.

As always, when it comes to sports romance I am a big fan of actual sport content, and this ticked some boxes, but I'd have loved to have seen a little more.

Overall this was a sweet romance that struck a lot of chords with me, despite the two characters being as far removed from my own life as they could ever possibly be! It teaches a lot of little life lessons, whilst delivering on a beautiful romance and gentle spice. I look forward to reading more in this series!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

Kelly Jamieson’s On Thin Ice is the kind of book that grabs you by the collar, dumps you in Vegas with a hockey god and a pop star, and then dares you not to care when everything falls apart.
Boldwood Books—thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my gifted ARC.

Let me be clear: I came here for hot hockey romance, messy feelings, and maybe a little escapism, and somehow I ended up emotionally invested, slightly teary, and very attached to a man whose love language is quiet consistency. Rude, honestly. This book starts with chaos energy—a one-night stand, instant chemistry, and two people who absolutely should not be catching feelings—and then calmly says, actually, let’s talk about trauma, healing, and what it means to stay when things get hard.

Marek is the kind of MMC romance readers hoard like treasure. He falls first, falls hard, and never pretends otherwise. No games. No swagger masking emotional cowardice. Just a man who knows what he wants and shows up, over and over, even when Nicki can’t meet him halfway yet. And Nicki makes sense. Her fear, her hesitation, her need to control her world after losing it in a very public, very violent way all rang painfully true. Did I want to shake her sometimes? Yes. Did I also understand her? Unfortunately, yes again.

What really worked for me was the tone. This book is cozy without being fluffy, sexy without being hollow, and heavy without being overwhelming. The humor sneaks in sideways, often self-aware, often dry, and always welcome. The spice is there early, but it’s the emotional intimacy that lingers. Recovery isn’t linear here. Love doesn’t magically fix everything. And that choice—to let healing be slow and imperfect—elevates this from “fun hockey romance” to something with actual staying power.

One quote that stuck with me: “He didn’t try to make me feel better. He just stayed until I did.” That’s Marek in a sentence, and honestly, that’s the whole book’s thesis.

Is the Vegas connection fast? Yes. Is the premise a little indulgent? Also yes. But Jamieson earns it by grounding the romance in patience, care, and real emotional labor. I finished this book feeling comforted, slightly bruised, and very ready to keep reading this series. If this is the emotional baseline for the New Jersey Storm, I’m in trouble.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ out of 5

Lately, I have been deep in my sports romance era, and hockey romances in particular have completely won me over. Add in a second chance storyline, and I am instantly interested. There is something so compelling about watching characters revisit their past, face what went wrong, and try to build something better the second time around. That curiosity alone had me excited to pick up this book.

From the very first chapter, this story pulled me in. I loved that it is told in first person with alternating perspectives, which made it easy to understand both characters on a deeper level. Being able to see inside their thoughts helped me connect with their emotions and motivations, especially as they navigated a situation that felt complicated and uncertain. It is the kind of romance where you want both characters to be happy, even when the path forward is not at all clear. That tension kept me turning pages because I genuinely did not know how everything would come together.

I also appreciated how the book handled heavier themes while still weaving in moments of humor. The balance between emotional depth and lighter scenes worked really well for me. As someone who has personally felt the weight of parental expectations, I deeply related to the FMC and found her journey especially moving.

All in all, I really loved this book. It had heart, humor, and a romance that felt earned and satisfying. Knowing that the MMC’s twin has a story of her own makes me even more excited, and I will definitely be picking that one up next. I cannot wait to see what this author releases in the future.

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

I'm loving all the Hockey romance novels that are around at the moment and On Thin Ice certainly didn't disappoint. It had everything that I could want in a sports romance novel and more. The story was easy to follow and there was a great cast of characters. Plus the pacing was just right. There were also plenty of spicy scenes. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author.

I'm quite the fan of the old "one-night in Vegas" trope and anything ice hockey romance related, so when I came across this little number, I snapped it up.

🃏 One-night Stand in Vegas
🏒 Hockey Player x Pop Star
💙 He Falls First and Harder
🩹 Surviver's Guilt
⛓️ Forced Proximity

The MMC, Marek, is adorably delulu from the start, which I loved. He just set his sights on the FMC, Nikki, and in his head, he was already planning their entire future 🤣...he reminded me of Nikolai Sokolov (IYKYK) but nowhere near as violent. His nurturing instincts were also mega cute, and his patience with Nikki was second to none. He's such a sweetie pie.

Unfortunately, I was not a fan of Nikki; she came across as being all take with very little give, which left me feeling like Marek had been done dirty. Her sense of humour redeemed her slightly, but not enough for me to forgive and forget.

There was also a lot of miscommunication in the book, which I personally loathe, I feel that it made the story a tad repetitive in parts. I'm also kinda upset there wasn't a dog in the epilogue, too. I feel like a dog would've made everything better 🙈.

Overall, not a bad read; there are a few sweet moments, some funny moments, and some spice. It just wasn't the book for me on this occasion.

Check TWs before reading, as even though this book isn't dark, the specific trauma may be triggering for some.

This book had a strong setup and plenty of emotional potential, but the execution landed a little uneven for me. The Vegas one night stand between Marek, a pro hockey player, and Nicki, a pop star, quickly turns into something much bigger, especially after Nicki’s life altering accident. I liked the idea of two people reconnecting while both are dealing with trauma, and I appreciated that the story didn’t shy away from tough topics like recovery, fear, and survivor’s guilt.

Marek was definitely the highlight for me. He falls hard and early, and his protectiveness and devotion felt genuine. I enjoyed seeing how much he wanted to take care of Nicki, even while juggling the pressure of his hockey career and his own unresolved trauma. Nicki’s struggles made sense given what she’d been through, but at times her hesitation and emotional distance felt repetitive, which slowed the story down for me.

Where the book lost a star was in the romance itself. The connection leaned heavily into insta love, and because of that, the relationship sometimes felt more surface level than deep. While the emotional moments were there, I wanted more development and buildup to really believe in their bond. Overall, this was a solid, readable hockey romance with heart and heat, but it didn’t fully stick with me. Fans of protective heroes and recovery stories will likely enjoy it more than I did.

On Thin Ice by Kelly Jamieson is a romance novel about an NHL hockey player and a pop star who feel an instant, intense connection—but the timing couldn’t be worse. Both are deeply committed to demanding careers. Marek plays for the New Jersey Storm, while Nikki is at the peak of her music career and based primarily in Los Angeles.

After they part ways, a year passes with only one-sided contact from Marek. When he learns about an accident involving Nikki, however, he rushes to her side. Nikki has never been one to ask for—or accept—help. Perfection has been ingrained in her from an early age, and vulnerability does not come easily. As she processes the trauma from the accident, she reluctantly allows Marek to care for her, slowly breaking down the walls she’s built around herself.

Despite everything, Nikki feels a strong obligation to return to her music as quickly as possible. Marek, though, is done pining from afar. For him, it’s all or nothing: she chooses to be with him, or he moves on. With an entire team depending on her, Nikki is left facing an impossible choice.

This novel is compelling and authentic in its exploration of love, trauma recovery, the illusion of perfection, and the importance of living in the present. I really enjoyed this book, and I’d like to thank Kelly Jamieson, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for the ARC.

On Thin Ice is one of those romance reads that sneaks up on you in the best way. What starts as a supposed one-night stand between Marek, a professional hockey player, and Nikki, a famous pop star, quickly turns into something neither of them expected: love at first sight.
Going into the story, Marek is painted as the typical player, someone who doesn’t do commitment. But as the pages turn, you realize just how wrong that assumption is. He falls hard and genuinely for Nikki, and it’s refreshing to watch that emotional shift unfold. Both characters carry heavy baggage from tragic moments in their careers, which adds real depth to their connection. Their shared mindset of you only live once makes the story feel raw, honest, and incredibly relatable.
What stood out most to me was how Marek cared for Nikki when she was at her lowest. The way he made her feel safe, supported, and truly seen is everything. At its core, this book reminds us that life won’t always be sunshine and rainbows, but how we navigate the hard moments, and who we choose to walk through them with, is what really matters.
This was such a heartwarming read with emotional depth, strong chemistry, and let’s be real… the spice was on a whole other level 🤏🏼🤏🏼🤏🏼🤣.

I won’t lie, this hurts. Nikki and Marek definitely have a lot between them. Work, distance, a year of wondering on both sides of the desire, and then some serious trauma. But when Nikki thinks she’s all alone in this and is losing herself, Marek is there to pull her out of her head. To remind her that there is purpose in her life, even now. And to help prod her to finding what she truly wants for herself and her future.

And honestly, Nikki does the same for Marek. While his sister helps both of them, they each have pain to work through and realities to face. The author doesn’t shy away from the very real survivor’s guilt, nor does she pretend that PTSD doesn’t exist. In fact, she makes an excellent case for why everyone needs someone by their side. Someone to lean on when it’s rough and to celebrate with when it’s going well. Someone who understands, or who can just empathize and help get to the root of the issue.

Luckily, both Marek and Nikki figure out their missteps quickly enough. They both do the work to heal, and they both find that they have the chance at a beautiful future together.

But I’m still wondering about two others going through a lot of pain. Maybe we’ll see some recovery for them in the future, too?

On Thin Ice was a solid sports romance that really leans into the hockey setting and the pressure that comes with it. You can feel how much the characters’ careers influence their choices, which adds a nice layer of realism to the story. The locker room atmosphere, team dynamics, and competitive edge all helped ground the romance in its setting.

The relationship develops through proximity and shared stress, and I liked how their connection felt gradual rather than rushed. There’s definite chemistry, but it’s balanced with hesitation and personal boundaries, which made it more believable. That said, some of the emotional beats felt familiar if you read a lot of sports romances, and a few conflicts were resolved a little too neatly for my taste.

What worked best for me was the mix of romance and personal growth. Both characters have things to figure out outside of their relationship, and the story doesn’t ignore that. The pacing is steady, though not particularly fast, and it’s more character-focused than dramatic.

On thin ice is the 3rd Jersey Storm book which is a Hockey Romance series. This book focuses on Marek and his love story with Nikki Sullivan a pop star he met during an All Stars Game.

After an electric night of passion (seriously hot 🥵) , they fell for each other but lost touch due to busy schedules & insecurities (let’s call it what it is).

This book charts the highs and lows of realising they’re in love, working through their individual traumas and fighting for each other.

I was sent this book as an ARC and I hadn’t read the previous books but felt I needed to (personal preference) but you can definitely read this as a stand alone.

If you love hockey or sports romances where there is a bit more meat in the storylines and the men fall hard, then this book is for you.

All in all I loved it and I kind of want the next book (if there’s one) to focus on Alfie & Ayla and their second chance romance.

Regardless, I can’t wait to read whatever else Kelly Jamieson writes!

On Thin Ice tells the story of Marek, a hockey player who has been quietly, almost platonically in love with a famous singer for some time. When he finally gets the chance to meet her, those long-held feelings quickly turn into something much deeper. Nikki, on the other hand, feels a strong connection to Marek as well, but her career and business ambitions always come first.
Everything changes after a tragic accident leaves her struggling with anxiety and survivor’s guilt, and it’s Marek who steps in as her support—determined to protect her, even if she breaks his heart in the aftermath.

I’ll be honest: sports romance isn’t usually my go-to genre. However, after reading a few books in this series, I can’t deny the pull these characters have. There’s something undeniably charming about them, and I keep finding myself curious to see where their stories go next, even though this book was not my favorite so far. I guess this series is officially becoming my guilty pleasure. 3.5 star for me

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Marek and Nikki’s story- the ice hockey player and the pop star!
These 2 meet and get together at the All Star event and then lose contact for almost a year before a tragic and traumatic accident causes Marek to seek out Nikki again. She needs a safe place to land and he offers that. Whilst Nikki has been busy growing her career, he’s never gotten over the time they spent together. He’s also no stranger to trauma and recovery himself.

There are some heavy topics in this story and I’d recommend checking your triggers, but Kelly deals with them well, and with empathy- it’s clear she wants to do them justice.
Marek is head over heels for Nikki and all in from the start, but she is more hesitant and at times I found her a bit frustrating but I also understood why she behaved how she did. The way he loves and takes care of her is beautiful. I really hope we get Alfie and Ayla’s story next!

The hockey player and the rockstar!

Marek and Nikki were perfect for each other and I so wanted them to have a happily-ever-after. I felt so sorry for Nikki … the way she thought of herself being responsible for things that were beyond her control. And Marek is this hunky rock of a man who didn’t waiver in his protectiveness of Nikki. That alone melted my heart for him. This is a great addition to the series.

Marek and Nikki share a passionate night in Vegas and then go their separate ways. Months later, the roof collapses at one of Nikki’s concerts and people die. Nikki feels responsible. Marek is worried sick about her and when he shows up at her New York residence, he feels justified. He ends up taking her to his place so she can avoid the paparazzi surrounding her place. The more time they spend together, the more their feelings for one another develop … will they be able to keep it casual?

Usually, in sports romances such as this, the man has the upper hand, being the famous one who women are chasing. Although that is still true in this story, there is much more balance here. Our heroine Nicki is a star in her own right. Marek and Nicki are very similar in what they are able to offer each other, and despite electric chemistry between them, their busy lives keep them apart.
This is the third New Jersey Storm book; like the previous books, there is a little more going on here than simply being a sports romance, and it is all the richer for it. I really enjoyed this story and the romance between Marek and Nicki, both of whom grow as their relationship develops, adding to each other's character and making a much stronger pairing once they are together.
This was a great read and one that I really enjoyed.

When I saw Kelly Jamieson was starting a new hockey series, I was excited. Her books are always filled with a gripping plot, two amazing characters, and a love story to swoon over. The only thing that bothered me about this book was that the start was more tell than show in the first chapter or so before Marek's interactions with Nicki started. Marek and Nicki were so sweet together. They had an instant connection that should have immediately blossomed into more, but it took them both a while to get their emotions in line with their actions. Nicki had something really stressful and tragic happen to her, and I loved how Marek was right there to support her. Overall, I loved reading this book and I’m happy Jamieson is giving us more hockey romance.

Marek might be at the all-star game, but his real goal is to meet music star, Nicki Sullivan. They spend one night together only to go their separate ways. But one year later, after a tragedy leaves Nicki reeling, Marek knows he needs to be by her side.

Read if you like:
-Hockey Player x Mega Star
-He's Obsessed
-Insta-Love
-Protective/Caretaker MMC

I went back and forth on how to rate this. Nicki healing after tragedy on turn lead to extreme burn out? 5 stars. Marek's obsession with Nicki that bordered on creepy at a few points? 1 star. I think it's fair to say it averages out to a 3. There was a lot of good mental health rep in this book. Some sweet moments where he helps her through nightmares and surrounds her with love and support. I just wish they hadn't been accompanied by his obsession. It went just a bit too far beyond the 'he falls first' trope.

The beginning of this book sets up a one night stand between Marek and Nicki and then tragedy strikes shortly thereafter. The two reconnect after the incident and end up sharing a lot of time together. They spend this time connecting as friends at first and they each reveal the trauma they have had to endure. Their relationship grows and becomes intimate but the healing isn't quite done yet. We do eventually get our HEA and by the time they find each other again, the wait is worth it. This book ended up being a bit deeper than I had originally thought it would and I really enjoyed it. Great hockey & Pop Star romance story.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the insta-love and one-sided attraction in the opening chapters - it honestly almost made me want to DNF. That said, I’m really glad I stuck with it because the story became so much stronger after the 11-month time jump (around Chapter 7). I loved Nikki’s vulnerability and growth; I didn’t connect with her character at first, but by the end I genuinely adored her. And Marek - who doesn’t love a kind, protective MMC? If anything, I would’ve loved even more hockey teammate banter, since the snippets we did get were some of my favorite moments. Overall, this was a solid hockey romance - 4 stars!

3.5 stars.
A super protective and caring Alpha hero and a celebrity heroine going through a hard time feature in “On Thin Ice”, by Kelly Jamieson, a story filled with passion, anguish and sex.
Marek is a wonderful hero: devoted, tender, thoughtful and generous. The way he cares for and cherishes Nikki is amazing.
Nikki suffered a devastating experience and is in deep pain because of it. Professional mental health care is expected immediately in these situations.
I liked the relationship, the fondness, affection, desire and sexuality between these two celebrities, who are both grounded individuals, especially Marek.
I felt the story was too focused on Nikki, and I didn’t really connect with the character, so…
It was great to meet again Ben, Mabel and other characters from previous stories.

I love a good hockey romance and this was a great hockey romance. I read the entire book in one sitting. It starts off with easy going Marek and Nikki who is not as easy going but Marek convinces the pop star to have a bit of fun. Things go south as they often do and he swoops in to be her shoulder to lean on when everyone else thinks she's fine and dealing with the tragedy well when she's clearly not. I really enjoyed this book so much. Their connection was so good from the beginning, I loved their banter it was really funny. Marek's sister Mabel is amazing, I adored her she is the best. This was a fantastic book and I will be looking forward to more in this series.

I received this book as an ARC thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books but all opinions are my own.

This is a fun, entertaining, emotional read. Marek and Nicki are relatable character who drew me from the very beginning until the very end. I enjoyed their romance and the path it took to get to their HEA. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I love getting to see characters from other books in the series make appearances. Jamieson has a way of balancing romance with tragedy and does it again in this story. The two are able to work cohesively together to the benefit of each other.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Continuation of New Jersey Storm series. This one following Marek, Mabel’s brother, as he has a one night stand with pop star Nikki Sullivan after an All-Star game. You don’t need to read the previous book, but Benny and Mabel are in this one a lot and there are references that help in having read it. This spicy story has a insta-love trope, which admittedly is not my favorite trope to read. The story does get into some deep topics, like survivors guilt. It kept my interest and I would be fine getting this from a library.

Thank you, Boldwood Books, for providing this book for review consideration through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

This is a five-star read that is so well written the feelings shown are palpable coming off the page. Nicki will have you wrapped up in herself, and feeling for her so deeply. I loved her meet cute with Marek, and how they came together over hockey, their love and passion is so deep, but sadly that’s not always enough is it. Trauma isn’t often done well in books, but this time it was done beautifully, and the trauma itself plays a part in the story, and I feel that it how it was so beautifully done. You won’t be able to stop yourself from falling in love with this pair, they just bounce off each other with such passion.

This was another great read by Ms Jamieson, especially if you’re into hockey romance. Marek has been enthralled by Nikki for quite awhile but when he actually meets her and spends some time with her, he can’t believe that she has exceeded his expectations. They both have stressful careers and have no time for any kind of personal relationship, they leave each other with no expectations. When Nikki experiences a horrific event at one of her concerts, Marek arrives to help her cope. With his patience and determination to help her cope, will that be enough for them to manage and have their happily ever after?

Thin Ice may be labeled a hockey romance, but at its heart it’s really about the emotional connection between Nicki, an up-and-coming singer, and Marek, a professional hockey star. Their instant attraction leads to a one-night stand, but busy careers and life circumstances pull them apart. Neither can forget the other.

Later, tragedy at one of Nicki’s concerts sends her into a deep depression, and Marek re-enters her life when she needs support the most. Their reunion is emotional and complicated, and they have plenty to work through together.

This story balances romance with deeper themes of healing, timing, and second chances. Fans of romance will really enjoy this one. Four stars!

Thank you NetGalley and the Boldwood Books for the ARC

There’s just something about hockey romance that just feels comforting and this book was exactly what I needed right now. Marek and Nikki’s relationship went from a one night to second chance, but it was about so much more than just the insta lust/love. The support and recognition of seeing a person for who they are, not perfect, but someone who has flaws and trauma and being there for them when they can’t seem to ask for help. The sensitivity on heavier topics like grief, and self worth was so well done, and real. This was my first book by Kelly Jamieson and it will not be my last.

Marek and Nikki fall hard and fast, but their lives are messy and tragic. After an incredible night together, they fall out of touch. Marek vows to move on, but fails. Nikki is in an accident that shakes her to her core and is traumatized. Marek tracks her down out of worry and comforts her. She's trying to work through the trauma and he's falling deeper everyday. Nikki's journey is heartbreaking and when they aren't together, you feel it. Mabel's place in the story is perfect. I definitely need Carson and Ayla's story to break me.

Another steamy novel from this author with a hockey player as the main male role and a female popstar. Easy and quick to read, fairly good storyline covering more than just romance and good times. I loved the character of Marek who was gentle, thoughtful and kind despite having been a player before he met her. But I found Nicki a bit annoying and selfish to start with. I also felt like she toyed with his emotions which he did not deserve and kept beating him down.
A predictable conclusion but some angst along the way.
