Melody
I can't get caught. Not after what happened in Chicago. I ran across the country to disappear, to fade into obscurity. And I'm doing a really good job of it—until someone starts following me. They leave little trinkets in my apartment, letting me know they were here. Watching me. Every step I take leads me closer to them when all I want to do is run away.

Dante
After my father's death, everything I've worked toward my whole life is finally within my grasp. Except for one teeny, tiny little in order to truly ascend the ranks, I need a wife. I need to produce an heir, the next generation of our organization. Imagine my shock when the perfect, murderous woman plops into my lap.

The Hitch is book 1 of The Dantalion a dark romance that may not be suitable for all readers. Please review the author's note in the beginning of the book to make sure this is for you. This book ends on a cliffhanger.

About the author

Beatrice Keane

4 books10 followers
Beatrice Keane spent the vast majority of her teens and twenties hip-deep in demonology and ancient civilization mythos lore, wistfully wishing for a sexy devil to appear in her cramped apartment, showering her with demonic love and wealth. Unfortunately, that never happened, and she does not live in a lavish castle in the depths of hell. Instead, she lives happily with her (very human) husband, their (very human) child, and a (very human-like) cat somewhere in the Northeastern USA region.

She deeply despises the cold, and could be described as a southern gal who was unceremoniously dumped into the part of the country that actually has a winter season.

She loves highly-caffeinated beverages (ask her about “chaos coffee” sometime), homemade pasta, and daydreaming about owning a hobby farm. Her favorite animal is a chicken. Her favorite color is lavender. She doesn’t have a Starbucks order because she prefers the bougie local coffee shops, even though she can really only afford that once or twice a month. If she can swing it, though, she prefers an iced mocha with a triple shot, no whipped cream. Oh, and an everything bagel with egg and cheddar cheese, salt-pepper-ketchup.

Thank you, Beatrice Keane for letting me get my hands on an advanced copy of The Hitch! At first I thought the book was a little slow, but man, am I glad I stayed! This book has got it all! Complex characters, spice and a GREAT plot! Twists and turns, and plenty of excitement! This book gives a sort of Haunting Adeline vibe, but carries itself perfectly through its own story. I think I experienced every emotion possible while reading this 🖤🖤. 4/5 would definitely recommend!

Start with the characters.
At first, I see a loose canon. Both of them. The guy is an heir to a supposedly mafia throne, but he buried his own kill? With a second in command that sounds more like a British Butler than a capo/captain or whatever a second in command supposed to be.
And the woman, she looks like abused poster child with manic behaviour, psycho with urge to kill when the mood strike, have time lapse memory with trauma and unbalanced mental.

But then, the mafia thingy feels more like secret society/corporate thing with people above him who held his leash. He, as a Dantalion, don't have the ultimate power. Not like any mafia romance, he doesnt seems to have soldiers, or hierarchy, or code of conduct like the usual mafia troope. So i'm not sure this book can be called mafia romance.
The fml, Melody's state of mental with her voluptous figure was refreshing. Her fear of having baby with her mental state also very normal, I like that.
Both of their bloody activities together was unhinged and demented, but it is dark romamce afterall, so the author delivered there.

But, then the character felt changed to sappy with all story line that felt lulling and dragging. And then boom! Melody did something I tought very stupid with the cop.

Overall, good in the beginning, quite steamy segs, but dragging and turn to sappy in the middle to the end. Not sure I want to continue for second.

Bea did an amazing job of keeping me on my toes with this book and Dante and Melody had me cracking up the entire book, but when something happens and they are torn apart, I was rooting for Melody to be successful and for Dante to be ready…What I wasn’t expecting was the plot twist.
Warnings: The book ends on a plot twist so if you don’t automatically have Book 2–BUY IT!
I would rate this a 10 if I could. It was such a good book. I cannot wait to see what happens in book 2 of the Dantalion Duet.

A Thrilling, Twisted Ride

The Hitch by Beatrice Keane is a dark, gripping psychological thriller that pulls you in from the first page and refuses to let go. What starts as a simple act of kindness—picking up a hitchhiker—spirals into a chilling nightmare that had me holding my breath with every chapter.

Keane’s writing is razor-sharp and atmospheric. The tension builds steadily, layered with secrets, suspense, and shocking twists that hit like a punch to the gut. The characters are complex and deeply flawed, making them feel all too real. You never quite know who to trust, and that uncertainty keeps the pages turning at lightning speed.

What I loved most is how Keane blends psychological depth with edge-of-your-seat action. The pacing is perfect, the dialogue is smart, and the ending… absolutely jaw-dropping.

If you're a fan of thrillers that mess with your mind and leave you thinking long after the last page, The Hitch is a must-read. Beatrice Keane has crafted a masterclass in suspense. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

The Hitch was an intense psychological thriller dark romance. I ate this up!!!! Melody left Chicago and is on the run for committing a crime. She was doing a great job at staying hidden until one day, she realizes she's being watch, followed, stalked. She thinks it's linked to the crime she committed and that maybe she was found. And she was found, just not by the people looking for her. She happened to catch the attention of Dante. Dante is in need of a wife to produce an heir and Melody looks like just the right type of girl for the job. Dante needs his child's mother to be just as twisted as him. The he didn't know was that Melody might be more twisted than he thought. He basically forces her hand into the marriage, and while she tried to fight it at first, there was no way she would be able to keep objecting to that man! The character are amazing. They're well written and detailed, the plot is twisty and attention grabbing. The spice is spicy. I recommend giving this one a read, but beware, it ends on a cliffhanger!!

Dark romance with so many of my favorite tropes in this genre. I loved this book right from the beginning. Author Beatrice Kaene does an amazing job pulling the reader into this world and these characters. The action and suspense were fantastic. What do you get when you put two unhinged people together? You'll have to read and find out.

This book is for you if you enjoy:
Alpha man
Obssesive
Possesive
Stalker
Serial Unaliver
Spicy
Breeding
Secret society
Toxic love/relationship
Dual POV
Check TW

Melody (FMC) is a fantastic character. I liked her right from the start. Her unhinged thoughts had me cracking up.

Dante (MMC) is intense. I couldn't get enough of this alpha bosshole. He was as unhinged and psycho as our FMC.

Their toxic relationship was written so well. I loved these two morally-gray characters together. Their banter and dynamic were entertaining. I enjoyed how the relationship evolved.

I can't wait for the second part of their story!

The Hitch by Beatrice Keane was just wow! Now I can’t wait for the second part of this duet and it doesn’t come out till October!
This book seemed to have a little of everything… occult/secret societies, stalking, murder, slight torture, and emotional impacts on both side sides.

Melody is slightly disturbed, despite the fact that she tries not to be. Dante is the Datalion and is drawn to Melody after a chance meeting due to her being slightly disturbed. Both of their murderous inclinations will bring them closer together, but they will need to learn to communicate as well and the deal they have made about that? There’s also the Seraph who are out to get them, but why?
Will they be able to defeat their pasts or will it come back to get them just like the Seraph?

This is a good dark romance book to read if you don't mind the warnings that are in this book. So be sure to read or understand what the author uses and take the warning if you think you shouldn't read it or should. But overall I enjoy reading the story; the characters are intriguing, and I love the banter between both of them. Now I have to wait till we get the next book, to be honest, I am bum because I need to finish it, anyway, I enjoyed it a lot.

ARC read. Basically , mafia boss falls for a random women he meets randomly. Well maybe don’t fall at first but became obsessed with her first. Melody the FMC is totally bananas, but it’s totally understandable due to her tragic past. Dante loves her so completely that you feel his love through the writing. They both try to resist falling for each other, which in turn is a lot of yearning. But they would ruin the world to save each other. Major cliff hanger at the end made me want to immediately reach for book 2. Be prepared for that…

These two are the perfect match. From the moment she tries to stab him Dante knows melody is perfect for him. He needs someone strong and she seems like the perfect fit. Slowly she begins to fall for her husband and everything seems perfect until she is kidnapped with her bodyguard Helena. Helena ends up in the hands of someone who she should have been able to trust and melody is on her way to jail. I can't wait to see how this unfolds in book 2!.

*book club pick written by someone in the book club!*

3.5⭐️This book had great writing, nonstop action, and some truly immaculate spicy scenes that hit exactly the way you hope they will. However, some of the characters’ choices pulled me out of it..like killing a guy over a pretty tame verbal comment? I get that these over the top reactions are part of who they are and the world they live in, but the emotional escalations from both main characters was so dramatic sometimes.
Overall, I had a great time with the pace and intensity; it kept me reading.

Absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for book 2 in the duet!

At first I was all wide eyed and wondering where the story was going but when I say this was a great dark romance that sucked me RIGHT in and made me fall for the characters as they fell for each other, it did! It’s been a while since I’ve read a book and them IMMEDIATELY went and pre-ordered the paperback but I did it for the hitch!

We love when the MMC is crazy, right? Well, the FMC is crazier AND I LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

This was my first book by Beatrice Keane, and I appreciated it.

I am not sure if it gave mafia vibes, but I liked the whole secret society type feel.

And if you are wondering if there is spice in here? Well, yes, yes there is and it's good, so don't worry!!

I think the FMC and MMC were written well, the plot was great, but it does end in a cliffhanger!

Overall, a good read!

tbh I loved her

this book hit so many of my little kinks that im just a giggly ball of happiness right now

I think the romance plot had pretty good pacing, and bow-wow because I really didn’t expect the protagonists to be who they were. Female rage is a guilty pleasure of mine and I LOVE how psychotic Melody is. *chefs kiss*

P. s. THANK YOU for including a little snippet from the next book. Otherwise I think I might have died.

Melody's life changes when she takes the life of her stepfather and abuser, she runs but it ignites a blood lust. Dante in need of a wife and when he sees Melody he becomes obsessed, if only he knew she matched his crazy and what it would lead too! Well written engaging, action, violence, desires, stalker, and a cliffy!

This is a fantastic read! It has so much going on and Dante and Melody have so much chemistry, it makes the book so much hotter! I'm not a fan of cliff hangers! But this is worth the annoyance of waiting for part two!!!.

This book was just meh for me, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. To be honest, I’ll probably forget about it tomorrow. I did like how obsessed Dante was with Melody but there really wasn’t much going on with the story until the end. I do realize that this is a duet so that’s maybe why the pacing was slower but I’m not interested enough to read part 2.

⚠️Trigger warning ⚠️ please check them prior to reading!

Demolished in a day! I quickly became obsessed with these 2. Melody is a badass fmc, and Dante is the perfect, overly obessesive man for her. One final warning is that the ending cliffhanger is a steep!!

I wasn't a big fan of the beginning of the story with the MMC and FMC but as the story progressed I enjoyed their chemistry and toward the end actually enjoyed the two of them to together. The book ends on a cliffhanger will consider reading the second book down the road
