Princess in Black meets Monsters, Inc. in a zany, heartwarming new series for early listeners 4-8! Written by the acclaimed Corey Ann Haydu, Zoomi and Zoe explores the wonder and anxiety of life's first big transitions with warmth, whimsy, and plenty of silliness.
Zoomi and Zoe were proud to conquer their first Tricky Turnaround together, but the second book in the series brings more changes for the new Zoomi and Zoe are both going to be big siblings!
Zoomi thought her family was pretty great as it was, but then her parents bring home a new baby. (In Zoomi’s humble opinion, Fizzle is very boring and kind of rude.) Meanwhile, Zoe’s dads have a wonderful Zoe is going to be a big sister, too! But Zoe’s new brother doesn’t seem to like her very much. Why does he keep crying when Zoe is around?
Fortunately, Zoomi and Zoe have a Baby School! With help from Izly and Doug, these unlikely friends are positive they can teach their new siblings how to be better babies—starting with how to sing the alpha-bing, and how to appreciate their big sisters. But teaching Baby School isn’t as easy as it sounds. Can Zoomi and Zoe come to terms with the changes in their families, and even learn a thing or two about these loud, smelly creatures along the way?
Enter through the Pineapple Portal to join Zoomi and Zoe in their second adventure, and keep an eye out for the other books in this zany, hilarious new series for emerging The Tricky Turnaround (book one), and a third title releasing in 2026!
My six and four year old happily reviewed this book for me:
My six year old, who reads at a second grade level found this book fun and simple to read. It was perfect for her current reading level and she felt so grown up reading a chapter book! The illustrations were so inviting, the characters silly, and she’s now on the hunt to find the first Zoomi and Zoe. Five stars from her!
My four year old enjoyed the story and found Zoomi so so charming. Both of them are older siblings so it was nice to see a book that highlighted the struggle of bringing home a new baby. I loved the representation (Zoe having two dads, one of the magical creatures is addressed by “they”) and the sweet, harmless story of bringing home a baby.
Absolutely would buy this book for anyone that has a beginning reader, a lover of books (and babies)!
Zoomi and Zoe are both welcoming a new sibling, and both are equally excited and frustrated. I thought the emotions were well decribed and easy for kids to identify with their own experiences. Zoe having to explain so many things to the monsters and they to her is a wonderful tool to increase vocabulary and descriptive language in the book. I didn't really enjoy all the faciful names, as it stops the flow of my reading, but using so many made up names is a great way to make kids use their phonics skills on words they have never seen. The resolution is satisfying, and the characters are fun and funny.
I received an electronic ARC from Quirk Books through NetGalley. The two friends are back for another first adventure. Both become big sisters but struggle with the new babies in their lives. Neither does what they expect. When they decide to hold a baby school to teach them what they want them to learn, it does not go smoothly. However, the outcome is wise as Zoomi and Zoe learn more about their little siblings. Readers will connect with the characters' feelings as they navigate a new situation.
This book has such a lovely message. Both Zoomi and Zoe are getting ready to add new additions to their family. They both are so excited to have a new sibling, yet sometimes our expectations about a new addition don’t always match the reality. Zoomi and Zoe both have to learn that about how amazing a new sibling can be. This is such a lovely book for anyone with little older kids who are going to be welcoming a new addition to their family. Thank you so much to Quirk Books and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Zoomi, a monster, lives in a make-believe world. Zoe lives in the human world. Zoe is Zoomi’s Helpful Human. They both are getting a new sibling. When their new sibling don’t act the way they think they should, Zoe and Zoomi decide to make a baby school where they can teach them how to be the perfect little brother or sister.
The lively illustrations and easy language, make for a perfect beginning chapter book.
“But sometimes, with the right person, you might find a new side of yourself after all.”
Zoomi and Zoe and the Sibling Situation by Corey Ann Haydu continues the story of Zoomi and Zoe, but this time they each are expecting a new sibling. When the new babies don't seem to really care about the older siblings, they decide to open Baby School. Of course that doesn't go as planned but in the process the two learn a lot about being older siblings. Again, this is a well illustrated book with a good story for the younger readers.
Zoomi has a new baby sister. Baby being the optimal word. So while Zoomi has been very excited to get a baby sister, she doesn’t understand that babies are not born ready to play with their big sisters. Zoe will have to help her learn what can and can’t be done when your sister still a baby. This story is lovely and kids just beginning chapter books are sure to love the full color illustrations and a story relatable to many of their life situations.
This was a cute book overall. The names are very similar though and most of the words in the book started to get confusing because of how similar they were. This might be difficult for a dyslexic reader or a child who had trouble focusing. Otherwise the story was very cute as Zoe and Zoomi learn how babies are different and the same.
a cute story about being a big sister. This series is full of whimsy and fun. The creatures and made up words are reminiscent of those found in the Dr. Seuss books. Thank You to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC copy.
