The Villa Next Door is an absolutely fantastic book, which I struggled to put down as I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next. From page one, I was completely addicted and totally invested in the incredible story.

Ryan and Emma win a luxury holiday. They cannot remember entering the competition and cannot believe they have won. But after checking the details out with the holiday agent quoted in the email, it was all confirmed as being genuine so they decided it would be a fantastic chance to spend some time together as a family, with their young daughter Callie. They had been going through a very tough time in their marriage and they hoped that this holiday would bring them all back together again and help them heal the cracks in their marriage and move on from the past.

The book is set in beautiful Menorca – such an idyllic setting and Ryan, Emma and Callie, are staying in a stunning villa. The perfect holiday destination … What could possibly go wrong?

When Ryan and Emma arrive, they meet up with other holiday makers and their families and spend time in each other’s company. Emma senses something isn’t quite right about their holiday neighbours but cannot quite work out why and feels that maybe she is just being an overprotective mother but is her intuition right? It is a very unsettling read which will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you wondering and trying to work it out all the way through.

When things started to go wrong on their holiday at first you think okay incidents happen, second time, you think maybe something is not right here but there was nothing else to think otherwise and then – well I was totally shocked with what happened next! I was speechless at quite a few times in the book!

Ryan and Emma’s world crumbles, their marriage is pushed to the limit, pushing each other further and further apart. Secrets surface and nothing stays hidden and then we see the consequences from these actions. Oh my goodness, this book was just so good. I was completely invested in the story and the characters and really struggled to stop reading.

My suspect list kept growing and I trusted no one but I did not think any of my suspicions were correct. I knew who it could not be, but that still left a very long list!

I could not believe the ending! I was totally stunned and this never ever occurred to me. The writing is exceptional, the atmosphere was very tense and put me on edge a lot! It is an extraordinary book, with a very clever storyline and concept. So many twists and turns that blew me away and like a bolt out of the blue, they were so totally unexpected. I wasn’t expecting the ending, and it completely floored me (in a good way!)

An incredible psychological thriller which I will be recommending to everyone. Beverley Harvey is such a talented writer, her writing flows so well, the emotions are felt and you are just so immersed and deeply connected to the characters and storyline. I cannot recommend this book enough! It is just sensational. A gigantic five stars!

Thank you very much to Bloodhound Books and Beverley Harvey for my advanced copy. This review is based on a NetGalley ARC provided in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.

I liked this book. The story was strong and very relevant - every parent's worst nightmare in the pages of a book!

The cover is what you would expect for a thriller. The colours are good and it was well done.

The book is well written and flows nicely. The writing is good and helps keep the reader guessing. There were plenty of twists that made this a page turner.

The book is predominantly set at a villa complex in Menorca. The area sounds tranquil and the perfect setting for causing mayhem!

The characters were good and fit in nicely. It was difficult to know who to trust. Both Emma and Ryan had unlikable qualities which works well in the context.

I recommend this to all of you.

The Villa Next Door by Beverley Harvey is a thrilling read that is busy, suspenseful, and occasionally frightening, featuring an intriguing premise. This narrative taps into the fear of scam holidays and forces you to confront the greatest fear you might encounter.

The characters are well-developed, and the alternating perspectives of past and present kept me engaged as the story gradually unfolded. I certainly didn’t see the shocking twist at the end coming.

Emma is thrilled to have won a holiday to Minorca, but she starts to have doubts since she doesn’t recall entering any competition. After receiving confirmation that everything is above board, she and her husband, along with their daughter, head to Minorca to enjoy what they hope will be the time of their lives. However, things quickly begin to unravel, and she starts to regret her choice to accept this gift, which slowly morphs into a nightmare.

With some fantastic twists and surprises, this book is a real page-turner because you think you know what’s happening, but you really don’t, so you keep guessing.

An intriguing premise for a story, playing on people’s fear of scam holidays and the like.
I thought the characters were strong and the past and present POV kept me interested as the plot slowly unfolded, I certainly didn’t expect the bombshell at the end.
In a way it spoiled it slightly for me as it tarnished a character I actually liked, hence the four stars rather than five.
Couldn’t fault the smooth writing style however and will read more from this author.

I had reasonably high hopes for The Villa Next Door – the blurb promised secrets, lies, and a holiday that doesn’t go to plan. But the reality was a far more subdued affair. From the outset, I kept waiting for something to happen. The story starts with the Burrows family heading off on a summer break to a luxurious villa in Spain, and the opening chapters are very much focused on the day-to-day details of their trip. Swimming, sunbathing, mealtimes, and mild family friction – it was all very... ordinary.
That in itself wouldn’t be a problem if there had been an underlying sense of unease or a thread of tension running beneath the surface, but for a good chunk of the book, it felt more like a domestic drama than a thriller. I don’t mind a slow build if it leads somewhere, but this felt like it was treading water. There’s a sense that something’s not quite right, but it never really bubbles up in a satisfying way. I kept thinking, Surely we’re about to kick things up a gear, only to be met with yet another chapter of family routine.
When the “Then” chapters began to appear about halfway through, I genuinely thought we’d turned a corner. I was ready for layers to be peeled back, for revelations to start landing – but they didn’t. Those chapters filled in some gaps, yes, but not in any way that surprised me. In fact, most of what was hinted at had already been spelt out earlier in passing. I kept waiting for new information or a deeper perspective to emerge, but it just never quite got there.
There is a central event that serves as the book’s turning point – the big drama moment – but even that felt slightly underplayed. It lacked the emotional punch or high stakes I expected, and the fallout was surprisingly restrained. The characters themselves seemed oddly detached in places, and while the writing is accessible and easy to follow, I never really felt invested in anyone’s fate. I wanted to care more, but the emotional depth wasn’t quite there.
I read it quickly – it’s definitely pacey in terms of chapter flow and readability – but that was more down to hoping for a twist that would reward the build-up, rather than being fully immersed in the plot. By the time I reached the final chapters, I was still expecting that one last shock, a twist in the tale that would change how I saw everything. Instead, what we get is more of a quiet fizzle. There is a reveal, technically, but it didn’t have the weight or impact I was hoping for. It left me thinking, Oh… is that it?
Overall, this wasn’t a bad book – just a very tame one. It would probably work better for someone looking for a light read with a hint of mystery, rather than a proper psychological thriller. If you enjoy character-driven fiction with a holiday backdrop and minimal suspense, it may hit the mark. But if, like me, you’re after twists, tension, and surprises, this one may leave you feeling a little deflated.

The unknown dangers of infidelity

This is the sixth novel by Beverley Harvey I have read, the others being the Eden trilogy, followed by The Perfect Liar, and Close My Eyes. I have very much enjoyed all these stories, including this latest novel - a psychological thriller, which keeps you guessing right to the end.

Emma and Ryan are clearly trying to get past a previous problem in their relationship, and winning a holiday to Menorca sounds like the perfect solution to enjoy familial closeness and relaxation.

The novel is split into 'now' and 'then' timelines, so we learn more about what has caused tension between the married couple, as well as seeing how their longed-for holiday in the sun progresses.

At first, all is well at the small villa complex the couple and their young daughter, Callie, arrive at. There is a retired ex-pat couple in one of the other villas, who are most welcoming. Another family soon arrives at the third villa, which includes two playmates for young Callie.

Things begin to go wrong - and suspicion develops. I will not give any spoilers here. All the while, we are being told more about the back story, which concerns infidelity in the marriage. The two narratives work in tandem throughout the rest of the novel - which is a very clever device, and adds to the tension in each strand.

Threat levels towards the young family increase to a point that would have previously seemed beyond imagining. It's just meant to be two weeks in the sun, right? Well - yes and no. There's a whole lot more to it, as you will discover.

Both the penultimate and final twist I did not see coming at all, as Beverley Harvey skilfully misdirects the reader into considering other possibilities, or by drip-feeding information - which keeps you wondering and trying to figure out who and what is behind the steadily growing menace.

As always, with Beverley Harvey's writing, the characters are brilliantly drawn, and very believable; as is the principal setting of Menorca.

The psychological interplay between the characters is gripping, and will have you trying to pre-empt the resolution - only to be blind-sided time after time. The novel explores deeply the marriage of Ryan and Emma - and questions whether a relationship can ever finally withstand, and move past, infidelity.

This book is so good and I greatly enjoyed reading it. There are so many twists, turns and a few total zingers in this book. If you are looking for a book to keep you on the edge of your seat from page one until the last page this is it--"The Villa Next Door" is the book for you. Read it and let us know what you think.

We start with Emma Burrows winning a three week trip to a Villa Complex called Cala Savannah in the Mediterranean. They just need to pay for the air fare. Sounds like a dream come through and just a little too good to be true. So Emma calls and is told that it is in fact true and she just probably did not remember entering the contest. That night when Ryan, her husband gets home she is so excited to share the wonderful news. Wow a free vacation to such a gorgeous spot how lucky can she be. Their 6 year old daughter, Callie is over the moon with excitement. She wants to learn how to swim while on the trip and this will be the perfect time to learn. They are such a happy family that nothing could ever come between them. And this vacation will be a fresh start for their happy marriage.

They are having a wonderful time on vacation and meet some new friends. Max and John invite them to a party the very night they arrive at the villa. A few days later they meet Jack and Sheena and their two little boys. This vacation is just what they needed until Callie is taken right from her bed one night. A ransom demand follows. Now what do they do? No police can be involved or they will never see Callie again. Why is someone doing this to their happy family?

There was something so immediate and real about the way the story began.

Ryan and Emma, along with their daughter Callie, win a luxury holiday to Menorca. The setting in Menorca is described so vividly. Callie learning to swim, Emma trying to hold her family together, and Ryan… well, you can sense he’s holding onto something heavy. Almost immediately, there’s something unsettling in the air. Emma can’t shake the feeling that they weren’t meant to be there—or that someone doesn’t want them to be. I really felt for her—her quiet anxiety is so relatable, and the tension builds slowly but surely.

When things start going wrong, at first they feel like little accidents, but then the darkness creeps in. It becomes harder and harder to figure out who’s safe and who’s hiding something.

Ryan and Emma have their own troubles—they’re trying to rebuild trust after some serious mistakes—and the author doesn’t shy away from showing that relationships are messy, emotional, and layered.

I kept making mental notes, suspecting everyone, doubting the obvious. And still, I never saw the ending coming—it was jaw-dropping in the best way. Even though I’ve read quite a few thrillers recently, this one stands out. I was deeply invested in what would happen to each character.

What really moved me, though, was knowing how much care and strength must’ve gone into writing and publishing this book. To create something this intense, this thoughtful especially under difficult personal circumstances is deeply inspiring.

I really enjoyed this domestic thriller that follows the Burrow family! Getting to know the family dynamics and characters individually made it easier to connect with the storyline, and there was a lot of following their daily life and character building and background in the beginning of this book.

The Burrows win a luxury holiday to Menorca. What could be better? After a catalyst of events a family holiday is just what they need to relax and reset, although the holiday turns out to be anything but that. I became suspicious of everyone. Ryan, Emma, the family next door and the ex pats next door the other side. I did not forsee the major events unfolding in the way that they did or the culprits being the 'villians' but gosh it really added to the plot that my predictions were wrong. I was certain I knew where things were going and who did what, but I was so wrong. Nobody is really the person you think they are, they all have secrets.

I did feel like this was a little slow paced but that wasn't a problem for me personally. This was one of those reads that kept me up til 2am because I was so engrossed I couldn't put it down.

Definitely a read worth picking up! I was lucky enough to be a part of the love books tour for this book, and purchased my own physical copy as I enjoyed it so much. 😀

I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The story starts off strong with a compelling setup: a struggling couple, Emma and Ryan, win a luxury holiday in Menorca, hoping to reconnect and reset. The idyllic setting, friendly neighbors, and warm sunshine seem promising—until their young daughter disappears, and everything spirals into chaos.

The author captures the tension of paradise turning sour quite well. The sense of unease builds slowly but effectively, and the kidnapping raises the stakes considerably. Emma’s paranoia and the slow unravelling of secrets keep you guessing, and there are definitely a few twisty reveals along the way.

However, for me, the novel doesn’t fully deliver on its early promise. To me, some characters and the relationships seem really surface level and underdeveloped, and a few of the twists are either predictable or overly far-fetched. How many times do things seem too good to be true? Would you really think winning a holiday for a competition you didn’t enter was legitimate? The pacing also lags in places, especially in the middle where repetitive inner monologues slow the tension. While the emotional strain of Emma and Ryan’s marriage is explored, it often feels surface-level, missing a deeper emotional punch. Emma is quick to forgive without talking to Ryan and addressing their issues. And I’m amazed that they just went home after the events that happened without seeking some justice.

After such a slow burn, the book ends rather abruptly and you’re left guessing how Emma and Ryan’s lives end up.

Overall, this is a solid beach read with a decent amount of suspense, but it lacks the tight plotting and character depth that could have made it truly gripping. Recommended for readers looking for a quick, sun-drenched thriller—but don’t expect to be blown away.

Ryan and Emma are surprised when they win a luxury break to Menorca. Checking with the travel agent involved, they discover the prize is genuine. On arrival with their six year old daughter Callie, they meet the flamboyant Max and her husband John next door, who pull them into their social get-togethers. When another couple (Jack and Sheena) arrive with two young boys they soon begin spending time with them, although Emma is wary. It’s clear Ryan is a little too interested in Sheena, and after what happened back in the UK, she had hoped the holiday would enable them to get their marriage back on track. Then the unthinkable happens, Callie is abducted. But who would carry out such a cruel act, and why?
The Villa Next Door is a story of mystery, betrayal and karma. Ryan is a serial flirt, but we soon learn he’s responsible for far more than flirting and has taken his marriage into dangerous waters. When things go wrong in his adulterous relationship he appears to think of only himself and cares very little for his other woman. Is someone out there aware of this and about to extract their own revenge.
Ryan is a dreadful individual. His only saving grace is his devotion to Callie and it’s clear someone knows this is his Achilles' Heel. Suddenly everyone is a suspect. But who? And why?
A well written suspenseful novel.

I was provided an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Burrows family are like many, stressed, burnt-out and in desperate need of a break. The toil of their everyday lives is straining their marriage and there are hints all is not well in their home, but then Emma wins a competition for a villa in Spain for a much needed family break, could this be just the thing they need?

Emma, Ryan and their 6 year old Callie jet off for some much needed fun in the sun, at first the trip is going well, they make friends with the neighbouring properties - Max and John an older couple and Jack and Sheena and their two young boys. Sounds idyllic right? Well it's not always fun in the sun...

One night Callie disappears and the couple are plunged into their worst nightmare, who has taken their daughter and how will they get her back?

As a mum of a young child, this book is the stuff of nightmares! The story draws you in as you learn more about Emma and Ryan and why their marriage is under strain and the characterisation of the neighbours in certain situations set the hairs on the back of my neck prickling with suspicion. The tension builds nicely through the plot and the flashbacks to past events before the holiday help you to understand Emma and Ryan and their motivations / back story much better. My heart was in my mouth from the moment Callie is taken (not a spoiler!) and I found that section of the book I was tearing through the pages to discover the outcome.

An enjoyable suspense read, perfect for a summer holiday (but perhaps not if you are staying in a villa in Spain...)

When Emma and Ryan unexpectedly win the holiday of a lifetime it all seems too good to be true, until the travel agent confirms it is real and they arrive in their own little piece of paradise. Then weird things start happening involving their little girl Callie, and with only an older couple in the villa on one side and a young family in the villa on the other, who is the culprit? And why? With Emma and Ryan's marriage already under strain, will it all be too much for them or will they come out of this stronger?
I finished this in one sitting and was kept guessing, although I had a couple of theories as to what was going on. I guessed the motive correctly, but not who was pulling the strings as there were suspicions surrounding everyone.
The scene was set beautifully and the characters developed well with enough background on the important characters so that you are able understand their emotions and intentions.
A completely believable situation, proving that secrets will always come to light and that grief can manifest itself in the most unbelievable of ways.

Wow this book was a real white knuckle ride. First thing to say is that I was totally gripped, I couldn’t put it down and so I tore through the pages. I’m going to tread carefully so as to avoid spoilers but the plot had me reeling from pillar to post, suspecting everyone and trusting no one. Early on in the story, there was a night where the three couples in neighbouring villas spent an evening together and the two couples with little ones were taking it in turns to do a baby sitting stint. When one of the fathers was found sleeping on the job, I really thought it was going to be a Madeline McCann type situation! (Not quite but my heart was racing). There are so many twists and turns, enough to keep me in a choke hold until the very end. What a fiendish web of secrets and lies. A really good read … I was going to say ideal for those hot sunny days around the pool … but maybe not. You need to stay alert! Loved it!

When Ryan and Emma Burrows win a luxury holiday to Menorca, it feels like the fresh start their marriage desperately needs. Seventeen nights in a sun-soaked villa with their six-year-old daughter Callie. Everything seems perfect, until Callie disappears.

This was a fantastic book that I just couldn’t put down. So much so, that I finished it within a day! Whilst the pace of the book begins slowly, it builds a great background for the main characters and about halfway through the book it becomes a total page turner. The ending took me by complete surprised, and I LOVED it. This was an incredible psychological thriller, perfect for lovers of Lisa Jewell and Freida McFadden, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Emma and Ryan have the perfect little family with 6 year old daughter Callie. It's taken two years to get back on track after Ryan had an affair, so when Emma wins a holiday to Mallorca it seems like perfect timing. The holiday in a beautiful villa is just what they need even if the ex pat couple next door are a bit full on. And are the other family in the complex all they seem? All is well until Callie goes missing. Every parent's nightmare. What follows next is a roller coaster to get her back and even though the reader knows it must be connected to Ryan's affair, which we are learning about as the story progresses, the twist at the end was not what I expected. Excellent read. #bloodhoundbooks #thevillanext door

Oh my goodness! This is physcological thriller at it's finest. I was unable to put it down from the first page because I became so invested in the characters and the story. Ryan and Emma win a holiday and when they arrive at their destination it's stunning. There are two other couples who are there neighbours. When Ryan and Emma's daughter disappears is when the real trouble starts. A family drama that had me gobsmacked and I had predicted something completely different to what actually happened so I felt surprised too. The major twist is a good one so I got quite excited and was screaming out loud at the end.

- If only Ryan knew the dark, fetid secret she keeps, the one that has robbed her of sleep -

Based in Menorca this twisty thriller will keep you turning pages like you have nowhere to be!!

A break from reality is just what Ryan, Emma and Callie need, they win a chance in a lifetime trip to Menorca which almost seems to good to be true! Secrets are revealed, trust is betrayed and friends are blamed when Callie goes missing in the middle of the night.

You think you know who's behind everything until the last minute!

Read this if you enjoy an easy to follow book with plenty of twists and turns 🥰

When Emma receives an email saying she's won a holiday she's suspicious but the travel agent assures her it's genuine.

At first the holiday goes well and they get on well with the couples in the nearby villas.

Then tragedy happens and it becomes a race against time and everyone is a suspect.

A great story with many twists and turns. I found it slow going at first but the second half was an exhilarating read. The conclusion was not what I expected.

I received this book for free but all views expressed are entirely my own.

Thank you to Beverley Harvey and Love Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book!

There's so much I want to say and gush about, but I don't write spoiler reviews! I read this book in literally just a few hours. This book is a gripping thriller that follows Ryan and Emma's journey on what is supposed to be a relaxing and long overdue family vacation, but suddenly turns upside down with the disappearance of Callie, their six year old. Sounds like a pretty solid thriller plot, right? Without revealing much, trust me when I say this story is NOT that simple. Ryan and Emma have thier own issues that are uncovered throughout this story and EVERYONE has secrets. Literally everyone. There are several twists throughout this book that catch you off guard, and Beverley does a great job of leading you to think one way, then hitting you with a twist that forces you in another direction. This was my first book by Beverley but I will definitely be reading her others. Her ability to tell a gripping story is amazing!

I absolutely loved this novel. I couldn’t put it down. Telling the story of Ryan, Emma and Callie their before and after. They come to the island of Menorca for a well deserved holiday for 17 days. They have an amazing time in their villa and have made friends with Max and John who love to party and Jack, Sheena and their two boys take the villa next door. All is well until something happens that makes Ryan and Emma panic for their lives. The story unfolds and the ending I didnt realise the person was capable. Five stars from me.

I was very excited to see that Beverley had a new book out as I have loved all her previous books. This one did not disappoint either!

The synopsis is based around a family that are having ongoing issues who go on holiday and end up in a parents worse nightmare. There are a few twists near the end which are great. The book had me hooked and I finished it the same day.

It comes under a psychological thriller genre. It is easy to read. Do order it and get lost in reading this excellent book!

The Villa Next Door by Beverley Harvey.
I really did enjoy this book. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. It's very twisty and gripping. I thought i knew who it was. But nope. My jaw was on the floor. I liked the writing style and the story. This was very cleverly written. The author knew what she was doing. Oh, my word the ending. I was so surprised. This was so twisty I got lost. I definitely recommend this book.

A psychological thriller that had me completely addicted! Set in Menorca, which is so vividly described I could have been there!
Characters that are well fleshed out that I was invested straight away in this story. I had no clue who was to be trusted, and it ultimately made this a suspenseful read.
The twists had me rethinking constantly, and I was turning the pages so fast! I needed to know everything! A great read!

This book was so good I could not stop reading it. I did not see the ending coming I was surprised I really thought the other Family was involved too but they were not and I really thought the situation would end differently she seems very passive and does as told.

I received a free copy of this book via Bernard's Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.

With so many twists and turns you won’t see what’s coming, especially not the ending, that was so completely unexpected.
The characters are very believable and real, both in the good, and especially in the bad sense, you truly get into the story and into the relationship between Emma and Ryan; and shows that a mistake from the past will always come up at any time.
