Shopping for a Highlander #.5

Shopping for a Booty Call

Rate this book
Getting a 3:00 a.m. booty call from one of Scotland’s hottest footballers is every woman’s dream, right?

No.

It’s my worst nightmare.

My sister’s marrying a billionaire. I’m a bridesmaid, and the groom’s Scottish cousin, Hamish, is a groomsman. We’re paired together in the ceremony, and the man is so full of himself, he’s bulging at the seams.

Biceps bulging. Thigh muscles bulging. Everything bulging…

Overflowing with charm and oozing animal attraction, Hamish is irresistible sunshine.

And he knows it.

But I’m not looking or admiring, because once this wedding is over, he goes back to Scotland and does his cute little job, where he runs around with a bunch of other grown men who all get paid obscene amounts of money to chase a ball around on grass. And I can get on with my life and my goals.

That call, though.

That call changed everything.

How can I hate someone and want them so desperately?

Because it’s him. That’s why.

* * *

A short, hot, frustrating prequel. ;)

Long before Shopping for a Turkey, the first book in my Shopping for a Highlander series that features uptight Amy Jacoby and the ever-sensuous Scottish footballer Hamish McCormick, Amy and Hamish were in a wedding together.

Her sister and his cousin’s nuptials, to be specific.

This is the story of Hamish’s intensely steamy booty call, a subject mentioned over the years in my Shopping for a Billionaire series, especially Shopping for a Highlander, but now, dear reader, you will learn the truth about that infamous 3:00 a.m. call.

Every dirty word.

Fans of Julia Kent’s laugh-out-loud romantic comedies will devour this delicious mix of witty banter, heart-melting romance, and wedding-weekend chaos, packed with the irresistible charm (and hot Scottish heroes!) readers love.

[Note to this was originally a 10,000 word short story, released in 2022 in an anthology. It’s been more than doubled and now includes Hamish and Amy’s perspective of the wedding they’re in. Have fun!]

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 5 New York Times bestsellers and more than 21 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French, German, and Italian, with more titles releasing in the future.

From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire in a rom com).

She also writes romantic suspense as Meli Raine, sexy shifter romances as DJ Jennings, billionaire shifters as half of the author team Diana Seere, and co-authors with Elisa Reed.

She lives in New England with her husband and three children in a household where she is the only person with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.

Julia Kent never misses. Shopping for a Booty Call delivers everything I crave in a rom-com: sizzling chemistry, laugh-out-loud moments, and characters who feel like chaotic best friends you can’t help but root for.

Hamish is the kind of hot mess you secretly wish would text you at 3:00 a.m, and Amy? The perfect balance of sass and restraint. Their banter is electric, the tension delicious, and the payoff... let’s just say it’s worth every page.

I especially loved how this story ties into the broader Shopping universe. Even as a short prequel, it packs emotional punch and sets the stage beautifully for the wild ride to come. Julia’s writing is crisp, cheeky, and deeply satisfying. Can’t wait to keep reading!

Isn’t a prologue supposed to introduce the reader to the characters and their backgrounds? This book is clearly written for people who have already read Julia Kent’s other “Shopping”series, which I have not. Everyone’s relationships with one another are assumed to be understood. In a prologue for what purports to be a separate series.

The story is one of those ridiculously outrageous over-the-top ones that I guess some people find comical but just seems clownish to me. And has Kent met a simile she doesn’t like? I counted SIX on one page at one point. Thank goodness this was a free download. I will not be buying the next one in the series.

I loved this prequel. It is brilliant to see things from another vantage point. And it's amazing to see how it all started with Amy and Hamish.
I have always been an Amy fan. The youngest child who can be unseen. It's fun to see her perspective.
Hamish is a riot, full of charisma and so much self belief. His turns of phrase are spectacular and appropriate.
I loved this story and these characters, it is beautifully written as always by an excellent author who i highly recommend.

I remember reading the short story when it first came out, and I remember thinking it was so stinking funny! But somehow, the author has managed to raise the bar even against herself with this extended version. I loved this opportunity to see the start of the sparks between Amy and Hamish. Also, I laughed so hard seeing this different perspective on the disaster that was the original McCormick-Jacoby wedding.

This is a short prequel for Hamish & Amy’s story… Here they’re paired for a ceremony, and Hamish is oozing charm and basically irresistible… What’s annoying for Amy is that he *knows* the effect he has on her…

A nice booty call, then a quick going off each on their own way, and that’ll be it, right?

It’s a wedding Julia Kent style… with an interesting side bet & a striptease, of course!

Yeah, no… It’s just the start…

If you've read Shannon and Declan's wedding story, have you ever wanted to see it from someone else's point of view? This is your chance to see how Amy and Hamish really started and see all the action through their eyes. no shortage of laughter and emotion and well, hot Scottish ginger, what's not to love.

Love this Revisiting New Start

Greatest thing ever. Revisiting Shannon and Declan's bizarre fiasco of a wedding from a different perspective. And watching this catastrophe unfold while Andrew and Amanda reunite. Top it off with the beginning of what promises to be a wild and crazy ride to love with Amy and Hamish. It doesn't get any better.

JOYOUS and LOL

Author Julia Kent captures so many cinematic moments in the stories she brings to life. I don't care who you are, her books are just so damn funny, feel good, and thigh clenching, that you can't wait for the next snippet of brilliance. And, BTW...Hamish fir the WIN 😉

Fun, funny and oh that mouth on Hamish!

These two spark light a match to an oil tanker. Hamish is so open and honest that it makes Amy crazy. But it is a delightful kind of crazy and a fun intro to the rest of their stories if you have not read them.

Love Hamish and Amy. Could not wait to see where everything was going. Hamish knows what he wants but doesn’t go about it the right way. Amy puts him through the wringer. Love the way they go back and forth with each other. Must read.

This expanded version of the origin of Amy and Hamish spills some spicy tea. It was good to get both sides of their story from that first spark. Soooo looking forward to the wedding story.

A fun start to this series.

A short read, but a great view into Hamish and Amy’s behind the scene introduction. I cannot wait to see how the rest of their journey turns out.
