‘Electric Devolution’ is a really great short story. Thilbault Delavaud doesn’t waste any time with the story as he digs deep into the main plot right on the very first page. Something strange is happening with either the elderly Rikyu or his ancient robot Kikai, and it’s up to Rikyu’s family to figure out what’s actually going on. Delavaud dives deep into the mind of Kikai, which makes for a very interesting read. I also really enjoyed the Japanese backdrop for this Sci-Fi story—it seemed very fitting. After finishing this short story, I’m curious to see what else this author has to offer to the genre.
Electric Devotion is the rare kind of book that had me intrigued from beginning to end. The plot is very well written with just the right amount of fantasy, thrill, and suspense that had me wondering what would happen next. All of the characters, my favorite being Akira, are all interesting and unique throughout the story. For my first time reading anything from Thibault Delavaud I must say I am quite impressed. Curious to see what is going to happen in this series next since this was the first book.
