Sacred Arbor Realm #2

Curse of Ash and Flame

Rate this book
I was born with no past, no power, and one rule—avoid the executioner’s fire.
Then a glowing sigil appeared on my skin, a dragon tried to eat me…
And everything I knew burned to ash.

Sold into servitude in a land that burns magic-wielders alive, Serafina survives by staying small, silent, and far from anything enchanted. But when a forbidden symbol sears her skin, her forgotten past awakens… and something ancient takes notice. As monstrous creatures tear through her village, she flees for her life—only to fall into the claws of a dying dragon and his infuriating caretaker.

Thorne lives with the weight of failure and the relentless countdown of his ailing brother’s curse. After all he’s endured, he refuses to let the sharp-tongued hellcat his meddling sibling dragged home ruin his last shot at redemption. But the longer Serafina remains in their crumbling mountain stronghold, the harder it becomes to ignore the fire she ignites.

As darkness rises and destiny tightens its fist, Serafina and Thorne are drawn together by forces neither of them can escape. She’s reckless, he’s ruthless—and the heat between them is a dangerous distraction they can’t afford.

With the comet fading and a kingdom on the brink, they’ll have to choose what they’re willing to sacrifice—duty, desire, or each other. Because if they fail, the throne won’t be the only thing that burns.

Will they rise from the ashes stronger than before… or go down in flames?

Perfect for fans of slow-burn enemies-to-lovers, dragon curses, and magic that refuses to stay buried.
Order now and dive into a world where fire, fate, and forbidden desire collide.

(Each installment in the Sacred Arbor Series introduces a new couple navigating a connected world of passion, chaos, and enchanting happily-ever-afters.)

Great book! I really enjoyed the twists and turns that went along with the romance. I did not read book 1 but still enjoyed book 2 so feel free to just skip straight to this one.

I loved Thorne the MMC. I also loved how Sera the MFC kept true to herself throughout the book. Definitely recommend. More than just romance, there's a lot of plot to enjoy.

Thank you BookSirens for the ARC! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

thankyou to netgalley for the ARC

This was sooo good! This book is the 2nd in the series but follows different main characters and plot but does have crossovers! This one has dragon shifters which had me hooked immediately. The tension and banter were good throughout and I loved the world building, Can't wait for the next book of the series

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½

Curse of Ash and Flame is a compelling, emotionally rich continuation of Stephanie Storm’s Sacred Arbor Realm, delivering romance, danger, and an expanding fantasy world that pulls you deeper with every chapter.
This installment focuses on Seraphina, a heroine whose story is layered with loss, sacrifice, and resilience. Her journey is powerful and heartfelt, watching her remain true to herself while discovering her strength was one of the most rewarding aspects of the book.
Thorne is everything a dragon shifter hero should be: commanding, protective, and irresistibly magnetic. His connection with Seraphina is intense and beautifully written, woven with fate, longing, and difficult choices. The slow-burn romance unfolds naturally, making every emotional beat and intimate moment feel earned rather than rushed.
What truly elevates this book is how the universe expands. The plot grows darker and more complex, revealing secrets, curses, and consequences that stretch beyond a single storyline. There’s a wonderful balance of banter, emotion, tension, and warmth that keeps the story engaging from beginning to end.
This book can technically be read on its own, but starting from the beginning allows readers to fully appreciate the characters, world, and emotional depth.
A captivating fantasy romance filled with dragon shifters, forbidden love, slow-burn tension, and a fierce FMC, I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

Ahh Stephanie Storm strikes again!

I absolutely devoured the first book in the series, Kingdom of Stolen Crowns, and when I saw the second book was open for ARC requests, I hit the button so fast!

I wasn’t sure where this story would take us after Runa and Victor’s story ended with a pretty little bow and although Yaga teased a little drop of what was to come in book 2, I had no idea this story was about to unfold.

Firstly, let me start by saying Thorne does not disappoint, he is the alpha, dragon shifter we all need in our lives - never mind the fact that his brother Alaric is the “alpha” he doesn’t live up to the title.
When Thorne and Seraphina first meet and he takes a bite out of her tush, it’s a sign of good things to come 😝

Seraphina is the kind of FMC you’re rallying for, you’re cheering that girl on with all your might as she bloody deserves someone being in her corner, as her story unfolds you learn she was sacrificed by her parents, abandoned, blessed by a goddess, briefly adopted only to be solved into slavery - can the girl get a break please?!? Then she’s saved at deaths door by a dragon, you think okay, the tables have turned but noooo Alaric (the d-bag) binds her into oath after oath leaving her effectively enslaved again! Thank goodness Thorne is there to bolster our girl and help her realise her potential.

I loved how the story evolved. It was like a delicious blend of Rings of Power (the dwarves who mined too deep) and Beauty and the Beast (I was literally waiting for Beast’s reaction to Belle exploring the west wing with the roaring “GET OUT!” from Alaric the irredeemable beast).

I cannot recommend this series enough - and having an adventure with Kronk and Drazen was perfection, and seeing Runa and Victor again made this book incredible.

If you love a fantastical, romantic, forbidden-esq, hero/damsel, true mates, the good guys win in the end book, this is for you!

At first, I wasn’t sure how to feel about an interconnected standalone, or really what to expect from Thorne in his own book.

However.. I absolutely loved the relationship and growth between Serafina and Thorne! They had the type of slow burn that had me yearning for them to just figure it out already!!

There was humor, character growth, difficult choices that are made, and even some characters that make some cameos.

I am loving this series and can’t wait to see what comes next!!

Truly enjoyed this story. The characters and all that went into telling their story couldn't have been done better.

Stephanie is an excellent storyteller, and I really need to pick up Book One in this series, which I missed, as Stephanie brought in the characters from that story and enticed me just as intended.

This story has romance, steam, humor, danger, and plenty of excitement. You couldn't ask for more.

I really enjoyed this ARC of A Curse of Ash and Flame by Stephanie Storm. The story is rich with danger, magic, and slow-burn tension, and Serafina is a compelling heroine whose strength is shaped by survival and hidden power. I loved the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Serafina and Thorne, as well as the dragon lore and high stakes surrounding curses, destiny, and sacrifice. This book taught me that you don’t have to stay small to survive—sometimes rising into your power is the only way forward. A gripping fantasy that sets the stage for an exciting series. Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this ARC. ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

In the second instalment of the series we encounter Sera. Her tough working life has not been easy. Forced to serve the dreaded Lady Penelope, Sera longs for a life where she can choose her own destiny and be free.

Through a turn of events Sera encounters Thorne, a dark and broody dragon shifter. Who despite his better judgement, links himself to Sera. As the adventure develops, we witness the relationship between the two characters develop. I love Thorne’s cinnamon roll personality. He fights with all his might to avoid his developing feelings for Sera and really doesn’t like to give in easily. The back and forth between them both was great to read, Sera really does give him a run for his money.

“Since that little chase you led me on when we first met, my beast has been itching to take another bite out of you.”

The plot was actioned packed. It was great to see a few previous characters and I’m completely intrigued by what’s to come next!

Thank you BookSirens for the ARC! I really enjoyed this book! I didn't read book 1, but I didn't feel lost while reading book 2 as a standalone since it is following a different couple. I will probably go back and read book 1 now since I feel like I'm missing some "aspects of the world" I loved both Sera and Thorne and their banter. The spice was good and didn't takeover the plot. Overall, I had a good time and the book was engaging and I read it in 1 day. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was so happy to see one of my favorite characters of book 1 got their own story.
I loved Thorne as a side character and loved him even more as the MMC.

The banter between characters is fantastic and the romance was so genuine. The plot didn’t pull me in quite as much as book1 but it was still very enjoyable. The world building is very well done and creates a landscape you can visualize vividly. I love the magic system and how the fates are connected.
I will continue the series and can’t wait to see who gets the next book.

4.8 stars!- I ate this book up! The world, the plot, the characters- everything was chef’s kiss! I wish the story kept going! Sera and Thorne’s banter, yearning, and chemistry were perfection! My only issue was that the ending felt slightly rushed, considering the lead-up to the ending. However, I absolutely loved this read and can’t wait to read more of the series!

This second book in the Sacred Arbor series is just as good as the first! I really liked Thorne, so I'm thrilled to discover his story! You don't need to have read the first book to enjoy this one, as it can be read independently, but it's better (in my opinion). The characters remain true to themselves, and I love that! Plus, the interactions between the male and female protagonists are hilarious!

I received an ARC copy for free and this is my honest review.

✨Review Highlights✨
- Interesting plot
- Good romantic sub-plot (wanted more romantic development between the characters but I still really liked it)
- Likeable characters
- Dragon shifters
- Loved the world but wanted more world building
- Slow to start but I really loved the ending
- Spoiler at the end of review

I really enjoyed my time reading this book. It took me a little bit to really get into the book. The beginning was kind of slow for me, but it really picked up at about 15%. I really enjoyed the overall plot outside of the romance I think that there was a lot going on, but not too much and I feel like the main plot points were well resolved by the end of the book. I know that there will be more in the next book. This is why I enjoy interconnected stand alones because you can read one and get to have a satisfying ending, and you can continue the series and get all of the HEA's along with the satisfaction of knowing the end of the overarching plot of the series. One thing that I would have really liked to have more of in this book was the worldbuilding, because this is such an interesting world and I feel like I didn't get enough of it in this book. I wanted to know more about the Arbor trees and what kind of magic they provide to the different sovrans in the realms. I wanted to know more about why some of the people reject magic and the Goddess. There was just so much more I wanted to know about this world, it just felt like pieces were missing.

I liked the romance in this book, I loved how slow it was to start even with the bond starting pretty early on. I just would have enjoyed more of a slow burn. I wanted more of the tension between the characters. I would have enjoyed more moments between them that we really get to dive deep into their past and why they are the way they are. I feel like it would have made their relationship that much more believable.

I loved the dragon shifter aspect, and I wanted more of it. I'm not sure how I just wanted more. Maybe more information on how the dragon shifters bonded or more on the history of them. Again more world building/history.

I would recommend this book, I had a good time with it. There are things that I would change, but I still had a good time with it.

********SPOILER************
I really wanted a more devastating reaction to the betrayal towards the end of the book. I feel like as the reader we were programed to not like Alaric because we know from the POV chapters that he was not a love interest or the HEA. I feel like if the book was written in a way that we feel more for him and we really liked him, that stab in the back at the end would have hit so much harder and I would have loved it that much more. But I am a person that enjoys when a betrayal is very emotionally damaging.

Finally, this wonderful continuation is here!

ARC Review. No Spoilers.
I loved the first book, and I’ll admit - when I first read the blurb for book two, I felt a little sad knowing this wouldn’t be Runa and Victor’s story anymore, but would instead focus on another special character from book one.
And it’s great! The vibe, the style, the humor, the lightness that shines even in the darkest moments - it’s all still here, with perhaps even more emotional depth.

I didn’t expect this book to carry me away so completely and so quickly, straight from the very beginning to the last page.

This book can technically be read before book one, but I recommend starting there first to fully step into this universe and meet the characters you’ll encounter here - and maybe even cross paths with again. The story takes place after book one, with a few flashbacks woven in.

It’s not only about different characters - this universe expands, reveals more of its story, and… some darkness affects more than one place.
I loved everything about it - the plot, the curse, the characters and their personalities, all layered with banter and depth, jealousy and possessiveness, hunger.

And of course… FMC Serafina and the MMC. Oh, the man. Thorne had me wrapped around his finger already in book one, but what he and Sera share here is something else entirely - so romantic, intense, tangled in fate’s threads, difficult choices, and an undeniable magnetic pull. Until that first kiss, I genuinely thought something would go up in flames if they didn’t do something about it.
And let’s talk spice. This isn’t fast smut - it’s a slow build, made of very satisfying moments and a true joy to read.

Some scenes were so raw, honest, and heart-warming that I had tears in my eyes.

Thank you @booksirens for this ARC - I’m left hungry once again and, of course, can’t wait to see what comes next!

This book completely swept me away.

From the very first page, the voice, humor, and emotional depth pulled me in and didn’t let go. While this is technically book two in the series, it can be read as a standalone—but I highly recommend starting with book one to fully appreciate the world, the stakes, and the characters who continue to weave in and out of the story.

What I loved most is how the universe expands here. The story doesn’t just shift to new characters—it deepens the lore, reveals lingering darkness, and shows how far-reaching the consequences truly are.

Serafina and Thorne absolutely shine. Their chemistry is electric, layered with longing, duty, and sacrifice. She carries the scars of abandonment and servitude; he bears the weight of a fallen kingdom and a devastating curse. Together, their connection is intense, emotional, and utterly magnetic. The slow burn is smoldering—full of yearning, banter, jealousy, and restraint. By the time they finally gave in, I was practically holding my breath.

And yes… Thorne. A broody dragon shifter with a tortured past? Say no more.

The romance unfolds gradually and beautifully—this isn’t rushed spice, but a slow, satisfying build that makes every intimate moment feel earned. Some scenes were so raw and heartfelt they genuinely brought tears to my eyes.

Add in dual POV, rich fantasy elements, and tropes like:
• Slow burn
• Slight enemies to lovers
• Curses & lost kingdoms
• Magic
• Dragon shifters
• One bed
… and you’ve got a fantasy romance that delivers both emotionally and narratively.

If you love immersive worlds, character-driven romance, and a slow burn that hurts so good, this book is absolutely worth your time.

I would highly recommend reading this as a stand alone however it is technically book two of a series. While I had neutral feels regarding book one I very much enjoyed this book!

I loved the chemistry, banter, humor, and longing between Serafina and Thorne. Their feelings of abandonment, loyalty, and duty are their biggest struggles. She was sacrificed and then sold into servitude, He holds the weight of his fallen kingdom and his brother’s curse on his shoulders. Their romance is the slowest of burns and there is so much yearning, the tension is chefs kiss! And let’s be honest… who doesn’t love a broody dragon??? now make that dragon a shifter so we have a broody man as well??? Superior.

Alone they are strong, together they are powerful.

I’m a sucker for a well done dual POV and this did not disappoint!

This is an fantasy romance with a good plot, and tropes including:
*One Bed (not steamy)
*Slight Enemies to Lovers
*Slow Burn
*Curses
*Lost Kingdoms
*Magic
*Dragon Shifters

Honestly, my reasoning for the four star over five star review is that (just like with book one) I couldn’t get passed the use of the word “flark” instead of just using the f-word. It was distracting and had an almost immature quality to it, and I felt like the end was rushed when there was such a build up for it. Other than that, very solid read!!!

ARC Review:

I really enjoyed this book, even though I guessed a few of the plot lines early on. I still stayed up until 1:00 AM because I had to know how everything would unfold!

I already liked Thorne from the previous book in this series, and I was excited to read his story. While the books share a world, they’re standalone, each with a different couple, so you don’t need to read the first book to understand and enjoy this one. That said, I do recommend reading it first if you can because it gives you a bit more background on the characters and enriches your experience. The first book is also really good, and you’ll appreciate the characters more with the background from the first book.

I loved the main characters and their playful banter. The silly insults they trade made me laugh more than once. The book also has a few short spicy scenes, but they never overwhelm the plot, which I appreciated as a reader who loves a good story first.

Overall, this was a fun, engaging read that kept me turning pages and I’m already excited for the next book in the series!

Add this book to your TBR if you like:

- Dragon shifters

- Enemies to lovers

- Forced proximity

- One bed

Thank you to Book Sirens for the ARC.

Plot 4/5
Characters 3.75/5
Ending 3.75/5
Interest 4/5

Overall 3.75/5

-Once again, I feel like the pattern of the first book was sort of followed exactly just with a slightly different plot and different characters. I liked the aspect of the curse and how it relates to the rest of the world and the characters. But as a whole, I felt like they weren’t trying very hard to break said curse because there was so much stuff going on around them that it felt like it lacked an actually main plot line and side plots. It just consisted of various plot lines.

-The characters were alright. Again, it kind of feels like copy pasted but that doesn’t end at just these books, it’s everywhere. I would have liked to have more diverse characters with more varying personalities. The relationship itself just felt very physical and kind of sudden. They’re attracted but don’t like each other and then suddenly they’re in love. It always happens and I just feel like it never makes sense. Alaric was probably the most interesting character but he also seemed very 2 dimensional.

-Similarly to the first book, this book ends with the conclusion of every plot line one by one instead of a whole gathering of them all and linking them to each other. It just felt like it was step by step and I would have liked something less so.

I really liked this book. It has a bit of everything in it. From humour to romance. Some tragedy and trauma but you have to go through the bad to get to the good things in life.

I liked the slow burn romance throughout the book. The back and forth between the characters. The snide remarks, the jest but ultimately the love.

I really liked how the MFC has being written, she is strong, brave and knows what she wants. She is loyal to friends and will do anything for them…..she even stood up to a dragon so her friend could escape.

Sera is witty, and I like her one liners she comes out with.

As for Thorne and Alaric now they are also written great….the details you get helps visualise them. They are moody, angry but also funny at times. Two characters you can’t but help to like.

This book also has a couple of villains which keep the story going.

This is a great retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

It kept to the story but with twists and turns throughout.

The author is a great storyteller and I look forward to reading more books in the future.

Curse of Ash and Flame by Stephanie Storm
(The Sacred Arbor Series — Book 2)

Curse of Ash and Flame is a fiery and immersive fantasy romance that expertly blends mythic worldbuilding, fierce magic, and slow‑burn chemistry into a passionate and engaging tale. As the second installment in The Sacred Arbor series, this book deepens the stakes, expands the world’s lore, and delivers plenty of heart‑pounding moments that fans of the genre will adore.

The story weaves together rich fantasy elements — including cursed dragon kings, ancient magic, and a world shaped by fire and fate — with a romance that grows organically and keeps you invested from enemies‑to‑lovers tension to tender emotional payoff. The characters are vivid and memorable, each with their own inner turmoil and layered motivations, and their journeys feel both exciting and emotionally grounded.

Stephanie Storm’s writing shines strongest in her ability to balance action, magic, and heart, making Curse of Ash and Flame satisfying on both the romance and fantasy fronts. While the plot moves fast, it never skims on worldbuilding or character development, and the emotional beats land with genuine impact.

I enjoyed the book! The characters were great, and I loved the banter between them. Interestingly, I started with the second book in the series, and this is the first time I feel compelled to go back and read the first book.

The story is a light read, and with that I have a few issues. I wished for more world-building and a more hard-fought ending. The conclusion felt a bit too easy, as everything fell into place at just the right moment.

I understand that the series needs to progress to ultimately confront the villain, but I think it would have been better if they had defeated the minion on their own.

Another issue I have is when the book has intimacy, but does not address the important topics of protection or the possibility of pregnancy.

Overall, I really enjoyed this light read and look forward to the next book in the series!

Curse of Ash and Flame is a darkly enchanting fantasy that pulls you in with its atmospheric world‑building and morally complex characters. Stephanie Storm crafts a tale full of tension, magic, and betrayal, with enough twists to keep the pages turning (well, it would of been if I weren't using an ebook reader). The heroine’s journey is compelling, and the interplay between duty, desire, and destiny adds real emotional weight.

Storm’s writing is vivid and immersive, and her ability to balance romance with high‑stakes conflict makes this a standout debut.

Overall, this is a gripping read for fans of dark fantasy and enemy-to-lovers romance. It’s not flawless, but it’s memorable, and I’ll be looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Some things to note!
Book #2: while each book features a different couple I HIGHLY recommend reading book 1 first. There is a lot of world building and information that helps in telling the full story.

POV: Dual 1st person between Serafina and Thorne

Language: some, not excessive, tasteful

Spice: yes

As was my experience with book 1, book 2 did not disappoint. The character growth and development is fantastic. Since each book features a new couple, I feared that the story would be rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The world building adds on to what we saw with book 1 as well as some characters who make a reappearance. This is really great in telling a more complete story and having the books connect. Can’t wait for book 3.

The second book of standalones in the Sacred Arbor Realm series, tells the story of Serafina and Thorne in this fantasy romance. Even as a standalone, I think it’s best enjoyed after Kingdom of Stolen Crowns to get the full effect of where our characters come from and the world that has already started to develop. There are so many layers to peel back from these characters, you find yourself lost and vested in their world. Emotional, curses and magic, and chemistry that builds to an epic climax after an intense slow burn that just feels right. Highly recommend this series and author!.

What an adventure this heroine has been on. I loved how fierce she was when she first stood up to a dragon. And how amazing their love story is throughout this wonderful novel. The love scenes are smoking hot. Her loyalty to her friend is immense; she never gives up on him. No spoilers here but let me just say I was surprised at who the actual antagonist turned out to be. The author does a beautiful job of tying in characters from the first novel and sharing insight regarding future novels.

I enjoy the story and journey. There’s a lot of backstabbing, inner turmoil, and just general frustration. Serafina and Thorne are thrown together by a twist of fate. As they struggle for the truth, they find horrible secrets have been kept. This is not specifically a continuation of book one, but there are several references. I wonder where the next book, if there is a next book, will be the same. It’s a good read.
