*Can be a standalone but makes WAY more sense when following How to Kill Your Neighbors.
In a job where the only things more toxic than the coffee are the people drinking it, we learn that sometimes, "team building" may mean covering up a murder... or two.
Everyone has that one coworker - the one they imagine stepping just a little too close to the curb as they accelerate through the parking lot. Maybe it’s the incompetent manager who couldn’t lead a paperclip out of a drawer, or the smug new hire who acts like they run the place after only three months. Around here, it’s not a question of if they need to go. It’s how soon.
Picking up where the hilarious novelette How to Kill your Neighbors leaves off, Raya is just trying to make it to 4:00pm without catching a felony. But, when petty office drama escalates into full-blown homicide, and cover-ups slide neatly between budget meetings and coffee breaks, she realizes the fastest way up the corporate ladder... is by kicking a few bodies off it first.
Filled with true stories of backstabbing coworkers, fake concern and real bloodshed, How to Kill Your Coworkers (and get away with it) is a deliciously dark, wickedly funny, and disturbingly relatable cautionary tale. Perfect for anyone who's ever smiled through gritted teeth at a Monday morning meeting and You could die, and I’d still eat my bagel.
I’m not sure how I enjoyed this one just as much (or maybe even more) than book 1, but this was one helluva sequel! Maybe it’s because book 2 is more relatable to me lol, but I know this was definitely a treat. These characters have just the right amount of comedy and wit.
I enjoyed seeing Raya in the workplace, as book 1 she was strictly at home (hence how to k!ll your neighbor). Seeing her personality in a work seeing was definitely a treat!
J.R. Mason has truly began a masterpiece, and I’m not sure if she realizes how far she can take this series. (In laws, ex, ex’s new boo, LINDA) I mean the potential is endless.
Per usual, I am in awe of her writing style & definitely recommend this for fans of well written manuals, I mean stories with dark humor mixed with a little gruesome unaliving.
Beta reader. Another J.R. Mason masterpiece! This book will have you laughing, side-eyeing and clutching your imaginary pearls. She leaves you hoping for and wanting more… more please, please and thank you. I love all of her books! I love love love her humor and writing style.
As someone in the HR field, this is totally relatable and I see it every day unfortunately! Quick, spicy, and impossible to put down thriller that will make you want more! If you’re craving a fast-paced read with just the right amount of heat, twists, and totally relatable drama, this is it. The plot keeps you on your toes, and she always has me guessing what wild move she’ll make next. Honestly, I hope she keeps these “how-to guides” coming because I’m hooked!
"Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a ki1ling!" Welcome back to class!
I had the pleasure of reading the new J.R. Mason manual - I mean, novella - and it was a TIME! Think (the movie) 9 to 5, produced by Lifetime and directed by Antoine Fuqua. At this company, we take action - and lives. I was tickled at the appearance of some well known characters from H2KYN and the ending drops you back off in the same neighborhood with more drama and tension than an "ending" has the right to have! Eagerly anticipating the next one - who are we ki1ling next, JR? 😃
How to Kill Your Coworkers was dark, twisted, and ridiculously entertaining. I spent the entire book trying to outsmart the plot, only for it to prove once again that I should stop pretending I’m a detective. The characters had me questioning my morals more than once, and I got way too much satisfaction from things I absolutely shouldn’t have enjoyed. Sharp, unpredictable, and wildly fun—I couldn’t put it down and immediately wanted to pick up the next book.🔪😅
Guaranteed a laugh with this one! 😂 I know I’ve had coworkers in the past that have drove me nuts. This book delivers those moments where the “inside voices” take over and those pesky coworkers start dropping like flies!😂😂
JR Mason is a very creative author. Her sense of dark humor will have you eating this series up!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I don’t know if I should laugh, be afraid, feel sorry for the characters or all of the above! This was a spicy, page-turning quick read! I wonder what is next in the series?
I loved this book down!!! J.R. Mason definitely did her big one with this read! Kept me engaged from beginning to end and is one of my favorite reads of the year! I love the humor that JR Mason adds to her writing that adds so much personality to her characters. Many of us likely have held some workplace frustrations and this book gives you a chance to live vicariously through the main character Raya and her coworkers in the most devious of ways… I would highly recommend this book and the entire series! It is a chef’s kiss! Definitely a big fan of hers after this series!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC REVIEW Title: How to Kill Your Coworkers (and get away with it) Author: J.R. Mason
Whew! Let me tell you 📣 📣 J.R. Mason did what needed to be done with this one! This was a five-star read from start to finish, and I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough.
I read this book in one sitting, that’s how locked in I was. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, disturbingly clever, and just the right amount of chaotic. If you’ve ever had to force a smile through a team meeting or fantasized about "accidentally" bumping into a coworker at full speed in the parking lot, this book will hit a little too close to home (in the best way 😂).
While it can be read as a standalone, trust me, it hits differently if you’ve already read How to Kill Your Neighbors. The continuation is smooth, and Raya’s voice is just as sharp, messy, and hilarious as ever.
Mason masterfully blends satire, suspense, and petty workplace drama into a dark comedy that had me grinning and gasping. This ARC was a treat, don’t walk, RUN to read this one when it drops.
ARC Review “Think Desperate Housewives meets The Office—with body bags.”
J.R. Mason returns with another laugh-out-loud, blood-spattered satire that proves the only thing deadlier than suburban drama… is workplace politics. In this twisted sequel to How to Kill Your Neighbors, Raya finds herself dodging disaster at a new job where petty grievances escalate into deadly vendettas faster than you can say “mandatory team-building.”
Between passive-aggressive emails, fake HR empathy, and coworkers you wouldn’t mind seeing disappear, How to Kill Your Coworkers leans all the way into its dark humor. Raya’s narration is sharp, unhinged, and just a little too relatable as she figures out that the fastest way up the ladder might involve clearing the path—permanently.
✅ Best enjoyed if you’ve read Book I ✅ Packed with sinister sarcasm, corporate absurdity & jaw-dropping turns ✅ Perfect for fans of dark comedy and office horror stories that hit too close to home
📌 Final Verdict: Hilariously homicidal. Occasionally over the top, but in all the right ways. A wickedly fun read that will make you side-eye your next Zoom meeting.
This was a fantastic sequel. Honestly, I think I enjoyed it even more than book one. While you can read these as standalones, I strongly recommend reading them in order. Book two picks up immediately after How to Kill Your Neighbors, and we’re back with Raya on day one at her new job.
And just like at any workplace, there’s always that one person who irritates everyone. Only this time, a little office drama escalates into homicide. The real question becomes. How many more bodies will drop before 4:00 p.m.?
I had so much fun with this one. It’s one of those rare cases where your favorite narrator also happens to be a genuinely talented and hilarious author. I laughed the entire way through. I highly recommend the audiobook. The delivery elevates the humor and sharpens the dark comedy.
This book is dark, fast-paced, and ridiculously relatable. Perfect for a reading slump, when you need something quick, or when you just want to laugh at the craziness of work life. And at only 138 pages, it flies by.
Now that I’ve learned how to kill my neighbors and coworkers without getting caught, I guess it’s time to read How to Kill Your Readers (and Get Away with It).
I am having the best time with this series. Full on belly laughs with these situations . Trust me , You are going to want to know the “in office situations”.
Oh the banter in this book had me snorting when I laugh. And some of the descriptions .. let’s just say they were severely disturbing truths .. that were so spot on you couldn’t help but dive in deeper
..quick read .. side splitting entertaining .. highly recommend this read.
I don’t even know how to write this review without spoilers just know:
1. This was better than book one, but maybe a smidge less funny. 2. Beyoncé was right. Ashes to ashes… and this why you can’t ever brag about a (redacted) 3. Them people ✋🏻prove all the time how they started the plague 4. Linda is a raggedy (redacted) who needs her (redacted).
The twists were twisting in this book. April’s dirty tail threw me for a loop but she got everything she deserved in the end. Darren also! I’m curious to know if Chad’s is ever gonna return to work and thank goodness Trinity isn’t! Now I’m curious to see what’s gonna be done about Linda……
I finished reading this and my 6 yr old daughter asked me “so now you know how to kill your coworkers?” 😂😂😳
This felt like a whole movie in my ears. It was vivid, and messy. Had me locked in from the first chapter. My coworkers better watch out because I’m not playing with them and their antics, they already get on my nerves now.
“Unlike your💩 neighbors, coworkers are optional.” Y’all better leave J.R. Mason alone! She, I mean Raya will unalive your ass. 💅🏾 In her defense them people are nasty and playing in her face. Darren, I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you!!! 🤬 🤣
I’m still laughing at how funny the story is.. Great writing great story telling.. Part 2 is just as good if not better than part one.. Anyone who picks this book up will definitely enjoy Keith book Korner
First thing... this isn't a book it's a workplace manual on how to get rid of annoying coworkers(lol). Just joking. What I can tell you is that this book is an adventure from start to finish. If you've ever had that annoying coworker you wish you could get rid of this book is for you. From page 1 I was pulled back into Raya's world (back in meaning please read book 1)and here for the drama. So pour some wine, sit on your porch, and dive into this killer book you won't be disappointed.
J.R. Mason is hilarious and unhinhed! I'm positive I looked just as crazy reading this in public and literally laughing out loud. This was so good that I've recommended it to all my friends and coworkers because it's so hilariously relatable...minus the unhingedness. I really hope she continues the series because its so much fun to read. I beg!
I just finished an advanced copy of this instruction manual and wow! What a ride. I now know how to get away with it. Notes were written down! I appreciate J.R. Mason’s writing style where she can effortlessly blend humor with brutally unaliving characters. It’s very entertaining and always has me questioning my sanity. I’m just glad to know it’s not me and it’s all the ideas she puts in my head :-)
Brava! J.R. Mason's second guide-I mean book in this series was bloody, suspenseful, and funny! I loved every syllable, comma, and period!
J.R. captured with accuracy and humor, the daily dramas that go on in the workplace. I know this will resonate with a lot of readers.
MC Raya tried so hard to keep her hands clean while dealing with all the work drama, and she was managing quite well until someone pushed the wrong button so hard that she had no choice.
Luckily, for this reader, the results were devilishly divine!
Patiently waiting for a 3rd sumptuous course, if it pleases this amazing author!
So I think I enjoyed How to Kill Your Coworkers even more than its predecessor. There was still plenty of laughs to be had. Plus, I was there for all the office drama, including the toxic, problematic boss, and the weird and highly unsanitary coworkers.
I do wish this sequel went a bit lighter on the naughty scenes, though, because I felt like I was reading straight-up smut in some of these paragraphs. I mean, did we really need to read about Raya getting down and dirty with her man first in a restaurant parking lot and then in her driveway? I swear, if I saw one more description of Darren's well-endowed manhood and what Raya wanted to do with it, my eyes would remain permanently rolled. Like, we get it, girl, you're thirsty for it.
That aside, I liked the excitement and unpredictability of this story. Several surprising twists and side plots helped shake things up quite a bit. Also, I wasn't expecting the novella to end on such an unexpected cliffhanger. Makes me wonder what's in store next for this wild and witty series.
If toxic workplace culture, dark humor, and absolute chaos had a baby, it would be How to Kill Your Coworkers. This thriller had me laughing one minute and staring at the wall questioning everybody’s life choices the next. The twists kept coming, and several of them genuinely caught me off guard, which is rare for me with thrillers. This is the second book in the series, and I do think reading How to Kill Your Neighbors first would make the character dynamics hit even harder. But you definitely won’t be lost if you jump in here. The workplace satire mixed with murder and dark comedy made this such a ridiculously fun ride. That ending though? Whew. I’m going to need a little emotional recovery time before I pick up the next book because I am still processing my feelings about certain characters. 😁
This instruction manual... I mean book was funny, fast, and full of chaos... just how I like it!
It was so much fun to read, I finished it in no time. The characters were all so distinct, and the plot had me hooked from the jump. I appreciated the wit, the pacing, dark humor I have come to expect from JR.
Hooowwwwever, Linda is still a thorn in my damn side, and if there's a 3rd installment (fingers crossed) I hope she finally gets it... IYKYK.
It also didn't hurt that I inspired one of the characters 😁 so I might be a little biased lol but even if I didn’t, this would still be a five-star recommendation because the writing is strong, the author's voice is loud (in a good way), and I can’t wait to see what Mason comes up with next.
A quick read I didn’t even know I needed! Raya never fails to get her "lick back," and Linda never fails to be the nosy neighbor we all love to side-eye. The new characters didn’t disappoint either—Sheena aka Dimplez has officially stolen the spot as my favorite coworker.
What gets me every time is how nobody ever takes the warnings seriously… and that’s always their biggest mistake. Several people had to learn some hard lessons in this book.
I really enjoyed the author’s writing style—you can tell she’s got a sharp sense of humor, which makes the dark comedy hit even harder. I truly hope this "How To K🔪‼️" series keeps going, because I’m hooked!
If you haven’t already, start with How To K🔪🍴 Your Neighbor—the nosy neighbor is the absolute worst, and the chaos only builds from there.
But on to my review. I loved this story so much and it was so damn real, or maybe that’s just my job. This book picks up on a different side of Raya life. After the drama with the neighbor, Raya has a new job and child like any job folks is extra messy, breath stank and they leave the funk at your desk after they have walked off. Raya is trying to mind her black business and do her job and go home to her man. Accept CHAPTER DAMN 12!!!!! Anyway this entire book/ series is a guarantee laugh out loud with moments that will have you giving your own co-workers the side eye
J.R Mason was at working peeking round them corners and in the shadows taking notes, because the way this book is extra relatable.
I'm usually not a fan of novellas because they leave me wanting more. Now, did this leave me wanting more? Yes...but in a satisfied way. I'm not left on a cliffhanger, but the author is so good that she leaves me searching for the rest of her books as soon as I finish. Andddd she never leaves me waiting long for the next book. The way she writes is relatable and written in the way my brain thinks. Her mind goes places I'm never expecting! I don't like when a book is predictable and this kept me on my toes! Phenomenal writing, phenomenal storyline! Time for book 3
Book two in Mrs. Mason's How To Kill series, book one being How to Kill Your Neighbors.
We get to see Raya in a work setting, instead of on her porch, and you would like to think that the situations she finds herself in, would be unbelievable... However 👀...
Let me continue on, on why the 5 stars.
1) I had no clue what was going to happen 2) I got triggered by a particular unhygienic scene 3) I was happy, and 4) surprised to see who ended up on the wrong side of the mystery! 5) AND a bit of anxiety arose at the end of this read.
J.R. Mason delivers again with another gripping read!
Raya starts a new job determined to steer clear of workplace drama—but that plan quickly unravels. She finds herself drawn into a whirlwind of secrets, “accidents,” and even murder. As if things couldn’t get worse, one of her new co-workers has eyes for Raya’s man, adding even more tension to the mix.
In the end, Raya gets her revenge—but in true J.R. Mason fashion, karma makes a dramatic return in the form of her neighbor, Linda.
The twist? Absolutely twisty!
Excellent work, J.R. Mason. I’m already looking forward to the next one! 😁😬
