The Future Guardians of Arakrona, land of the greatest minds of the world, are scheduled to attend a field study in the Borealian Mountain Range in less than a week. Completing their engineering homework on time seems to be their biggest challenge, but tensions rise in Umbra as the Guide adopts increasingly progressive policies without explanation. They realize not only that secrets older than they are at risk, but that the very order that defines their fate is under threat—and it's up to them to defend it.
When their plans derail, the Future Guardians make unlikely friends and form tentative alliances in the untamed wilderness as they desperately seek guidance they can trust.
I feel so lucky that I know the author of this book personally. I’ve looked up to her since my freshman year, both literally and figuratively and reading her work was such a privilege.
The world building, character development, and storytelling were full of life and personality, and I’ve never read a book quite like it. The world of Arakrona was so fun to delve into and learn about, and is what kept me hooked throughout. That and the illustrations, Karuna’s drawings are so detailed and wonderful and each time one came up I had to sit and stare at it because of how amazing it was.
I loved this book, and am now anxiously awaiting the sequel. Congrats Karuna!!
Congratulations on your debut! I'm not used to reading YA so it took a while for me to get used to the development and pacing of the characters and story itself--but once I did I found all of the wonderful charm a debut novel holds. From the love and care placed into relationships and dialogue to the twists and turns of classic fantasy. Karuna Kotak, you're going to do great things and I'm so glad to be here at the start of a grand adventure. Can't wait for Book 2!
