I received this book as part of the Murder and Mayhem Box Set. It was a novella length story, but I failed to see how it could be included in something marketed as action espionage, thriller, murder mysteries. I continued to read it, but I didn't think it was good, at all. Worse there are two of these novellas back-to-back, the second worse than the first. As a high school teacher that deals with serious issues daily, this story seems overly trite and cavalier about matters of significance. (To young people, there are a lot of things that are "significant," but in this case there are serious matters and they are handled with deft, literary agility.) This is more romance, YA, soap opera, slice of life, than it is any genre that I find interesting. So take my opinion on this story with a grain of salt. Still, ugh!

So, I started this book and was immediately drawn in. I found it a bit cheesy at first. I mean, the good girl gets hooked by the bad boy? Very cliche and no one would deny that. But the twists and turns that occur, kept my interest. Grace was a likable very flawed character that one could very easily relate to. Danny was the boy that everyone secretly wants to date and "fix" but no one really rarely ever does.
Now, I do not condone underage drinking or drug use of any kind. But I felt that this was part of the story that could not be erased or deleted in any way. I felt that without that aspect, you would not have any story whatsoever. Storm is a very messed up character that is the epitome of evil in this story. And the side story of the bi-racial brother was a bit random but in relation to the rest of the plot, it fit perfectly. I have to say that I was left wanting just a bit more.
Now I thought long and hard about the rating on this one. I am not normally a fan of novellas unless they are a side jaunt from a true novel. (I.E. #0.5 in a 4 book series - giving you just a teaser or side story to the main plot) But with three novellas released together to form a complete novel is a bit different. I am giving this a 3.5 star rating but Goodreads and such only do whole numbers so I will round it up to a 4.

I read this book as part of the Murder&Mayhem omnibus, and to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure where this story fits in. There was no murder, and no mayhem. It is a story of a girl falling for a bad boy, who is supposed to get her hooked on drugs and take some video of her and blackmail her.

Probably the thing that turned me off this story was the typos/spelling errors:
"waiting for my student brake in class"
"She was like a sea angle"
"No-one would ever ware an outfit like that"
"sat down next to her on the coach"
"her cold exterior finally brakes"

Seriously.

This is very much a teaser/taster of the series, designed to get you hooked. The series follows Grace as she dates bad boy Danny in an effort to get her father's attention but finds herseslf falling for him (shocked, not shocked). This is very much a YA series and one that seems suited to the younger end of that spectrum as both Grace and Danny, and many of the other characters are immature and very naive. Not a bad read but not really for me.

Needs some serious proofreading! I was reading it as part of the murder and mayhem collection and got as far as chapter 7 before I just couldn’t take any more.

As an example, “when an infectious disease brakes out” - this kind of glaring error really ruins a book for me.

2.5 really. I want to like this book more, but just can't... The characters are quite childish and annoying, and the "plot twist" at the end is really easy to guess. No point in reason more in the series...

I didn't know what to expect with this. The first book is just a teaser really, the second book is pretty INSANE!! I def learned so much about drugs that I didn't know. I'd recommend this to all my friends as it's very relatable to real life.

I guess this is a pretty good start to a book.... Too bad it's shorter than a novella:( And with the sequels being priced at 2.99 on kindle it's not worth it if they're the same length as this one.
