Wrecked - [New Beginnings]

Rate this book
A New Adult Romance Novel by USA Today Bestselling Author Priscilla West

“There would be no happy ending for us. He was too damaged. I was too broken.”

Two years ago, Lorrie’s mother was murdered. But that wasn’t the end of it. Reeling from the tragedy, Lorrie’s father spiraled into alcohol, depression, and finally suicide.

The two most important people in Lorrie’s life are both gone but she’s still alive.

Trying to recover from the tragedy, Lorrie returns to campus, ready to pick up the pieces of her life. All Lorrie wants is to get back to “normal.”

Then she meets Hunter. The man, the legend, “The Hammer.”

Hunter is a cage fighter who takes on every fight like he’s got nothing to lose. His life is a tangled mess of girls, booze, and fist fights. And while it may seem like he’s got a devil-may-care attitude, he’s fighting a private cage-match with a monster he can’t defeat.

Lorrie knows that Hunter is exactly the type of guy she should stay away from, especially in her fragile state, but Hunter has other ideas.

As Hunter and Lorrie grow closer together, will they be able to overcome their pain and heal each other? Or will they both end up wrecked?

This is not a standalone book, it is an extended teaser for the full length Wrecked (The Forever Series).

* I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review *

Okay, so once getting on Goodreads, I'm slightly confused. I'm not sure if is part of a series, or what's going on. But this cover matches the story I read, so this is the one I'm going with.

Onto Wrecked itself. Wrecked, wrecked me! It wrecked what should've been a wonderful nights sleep. It wrecked my heart. It wrecked me the next day because all I could do was think about it. Ms. West, you WRECKED me!

I'm generally a YA fan, but I do like to kick things up a bit from time to time, and I'm so glad that I found this on NetGalley. "They were both broken."

When you hear words like that, it evokes this impossible heart wrenching scenario where you just know you are going to love and hate both characters. Your heart breaks for them, prays that somehow they can find a way to mend each other, make it work.

Ms. West did an incredible job fleshing out both Lorrie and Hunter. I have to say, Hunter was really pi##ing me off with his whole "arrangement" thingy with the other girls, and the mysterious Ada relationship (ex-girlfriend, but they remain friends, crap), but dear lord...when I found out what the deal was. I did NOT see that coming and instantly wanted to pull Hunter from the pages of the book and sooth him in my arms. Sigh....

Lorrie, let's not forget all the crap she's went through.

There were also laugh out loud moments which was a nice reprieve from the seriousness of the situation.

Lorrie and Hunter work so well together. I simply cannot wait to get the conclusion to this story.

I just loved it. What else is there to say?

When I first got this I didn't realize it wasn't the full book and I certainly didn't realize that it was a teaser for the 4th book in a series.

That being said I really enjoyed this teaser and I definitely want to read at least the 4th book in the series because I need to know what happens.

Lorrie and Hunter's banter between each other was hilarious and I loved it. This book barely touches the surface of what' going on but it definitely sucks you in and hooks you.

I will definitely be reading this series at some point so I can find out what happens with Lorrie and Hunter.

I'm not much of a YA genre fan but I'm so glad I requested this on Netgalley. This book is quite emotionally draining for me. Both the main characters are broken and I find that they could have resolved many issues had they communicated. With both seriously damage and broken lives how can they work? Ms West wrote a book that will leave you wrecked and raw.

WRECKED is the first storyline in Priscilla West’s contemporary, new adult duology Wrecked series focusing on MMA fighter Hunter Jensen and Lorrie Burnham-the woman who has stolen his heart. Both of our leading characters are haunted by their own pasts; mired in the muck that continues to pull them down; and in the end, their demons will rear up and kill any chance of forgiveness and love. This is not a story with a happily ever after-this instalment will leave you reeling and wondering where it had all gone wrong.

Lorrie has recently returned to college following a leave of absence due in part to the death of her parents-two deaths that have affected her life in more ways than the perceived obvious-her mother was murdered by her step father and her father, who still loved her mother, killed himself after leaving a note asking for his daughter’s forgiveness. Lorrie had to endure eighteen months of lawyers, court cases, television cameras and her own grief only to return to campus where she will become the fodder for gossip and innuendo. Meeting Hunter Jensen was something Lorrie had never expected. Hoping to keep their relationship at the friendship level only-Lorrie pushes Hunter away at every opportunity only to watch him go from woman to woman when she refuses to acknowledge her feelings and emotions.

This is a story about two people whose lives are snowballing out of control. Lorrie refused to admit she was falling for Hunter and at every opportunity she would purposely push him away only to realize that in the end it was too late.

Much of the storyline follows the emotionally draining back and forth of a growing relationship that was destined to end in tragedy and disaster. And Hunter’s big secret-well, it will become the last brick in a wall that has been slowly building since the beginning of their friendship-a wall of secrets that will find our couple spiraling out of control and lost.

Priscilla West has written a storyline that is gritty, emotional and painfully heartbreaking. It is also a story that is predictable as are many of the new adult storylines. The impassioned need of one man for the woman who has captured him heart and soul is tempered only by the demons and truth he refused to admit.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Quick blurb on the book: Following the death of her parents, Lorrie lives with her aunt and family until she decides that she wants to try and get back to some semblance of a normal life and go back to colleague. What Lorrie did not expect was to fall for the local bad boy, Hunter. Lorrie meets Hunter in a lovely “nonchalant” way, when he saves her after a nasty fall into a freeze lake. Obviously being the hot guy that Hunter is, Lorrie’s quickly attracted to him but with his reputation, she is wary to get involved. They start off as friends and decided to give a real relationship ago. The story follows there story.

My summary: I really loved this book. I have a thing for bad boys that are actually decent guys underneath and it takes the right girl to settle them down. I thought Lorrie’s background was really sad and I found myself with a tear or two in my eyes reading this and seeing how far she has come especially as the story unfolds. In general did feel this was an excellent emotional rollercoaster journey; I felt myself getting drawn into the book as if I was there and could really feel the emotions written on the bag.

I love the fact I can find out more about Lorrie and Hunters story in the next book. Overall I loved this book and will definitely be reading rescued.

Wrecked by Priscilla West is the first book by the author that I have read and it was a surprise read. I heard about it from a friend and just had to try it and I am so glad I did.

This book had me stumped at many points and came off totally unexpected. The story of a MMA fighter and a woman who has seen so much tragedy, I was hooked right from the start and kept thinking I knew what would happen next but it never did!

Priscilla's writing is expressive, heart wrenching and brutally honest. She gives us two broken characters who each look imperfect and then when the reality is revealed they come as the most beautiful people that leave us feeling raw and thinking about them long after the book ends.

The story is multi layered, complex and a quick read but no less memorable.

All in all, Wrecked by Priscilla West had me entertained throughout and then thinking about it long after I had finished the book. 4.5 out of 5 to it and recommended to all lovers of heartfelt, complex and angsty romance.

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Priscilla West never disappoints the reader. I keep falling more and more in love with her writing with each book I read. Wrecked is the story of two college students that accidentally meet on a cold winter day and Lorrie falls into the icy cold water and is rescued by a stranger named Hunter. They both have secrets and pain in their lives, but they are drawn together and develop a strong friendship. They both want more but are afraid that they are so broken that they will just cause each other more pain. Come and find out if they are each others saving graces and does their love survive and make them stronger. This is a must read, you will not be sorry or disappointed. Thank you Priscilla West for sharing your wonderful heart felt stories.

Absolutely amazed by this start to the set. I will attempt not to post spoilers but I am only human.

Now, this starts out as a deeply dark depressing story. Which quickly changes from that to a more deeper story with other twists that will keep you guessing as you read on. As, much as it was depressing I was compelled to keep reading. I needed to see what happened between these two main people.

How do they form a friendship.. get past all their baggage to trust each other? I have to say I was HIGHLY impressed and now compelled to grab the other sets to keep reading. If you can buy the full set do so it is so worth it!

I love the story but I'm devastated that this is just a sampler. I thought I was reading the entire book! All of a sudden it's done and the author is thanking me for reading the extended sample. WTH??? Now I have to pay $4.99 to read a book that I've already read the first half of.....I'm sure the complete book will get a five star rating from me, but this book is a waste of time. It should be specified at the beginning that it's a SAMPLE.

2.5 STARS!

This is a heart wrecking story. Well written and with great characters, but I didn't know I was just getting a teaser, which I'm okay with. However, I'm rating it with 2.5 stars because is a cliffhanger, and for me, cliffhangers are a killer cause I definitely bot getting a book just to read the other half of the story.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange of an honest review!

Great story but sold in incomplete pricey parts

I really enjoyed this story and the characters are very likeable. I would by the second part but it is much to pricey for an incomplete story that is sold in parts so I am going to pass on this one and hope to catch it on sale later.

As I was reading, I get the impression that it is going to go to pt. 2 (next book) showing that this fighter has a dominating controlling personality that leads to be harmful to the one he may care about most. I may be wrong but it seems like it is going in that direction.
