These are not very well-written books by most standards so I wasn't expecting much.
Unfortunately, Mr. hemming seems to have turned over most of the writing to a 14-year-old girl..... I'm talking about some really terrible writing here, bad grammar and nearly the entire book is something that belongs in the teen romance section of the bookstore. "does he like me?"... "does she like me?"... "I can hardly wait to have a life together with him".
Those are the kinds of lines you hear almost nonstop interspersed with a little bit of action. It's like you can see where one sentence ended with her writing and then he took over and wrote some fairly interesting action sequences... but then he had to go out to get a beer or to go to the store and she started writing this tripe again....
As many reviewers have already said, this "maybe" qualifies as a $0.99 first-timer-I'm- just-learning-to-write-so-bear-with-me-until-I-get-better-novel... For $6.99 it should at least be be both edited and written by someone older than 12 years old.
Now that I've vented on how cheated I feel at this story, let me give kudos to Mr. Hemming himself... he wrote a trapping and snaring book which I have to say is one of the best practical books I've ever read, so he obviously knows how to write and I'll gladly forgive him for some of the literary shortcomings of the parts of these books (the parts that HE actually wrote). Things sometimes get a little preachy and most of the characters are so shallow or so completely over-the-top that it often takes the story into fantasyland instead of keeping it grounded (where he does his best writing)... but the action sequences are wonderful and they really are page-turner's, unfortunately, those are only the parts that he writes......
