Hot listed by Amazon on the first day of its publication under "Vocational Guidance," Mentoring Power: Key to Sustainable Economic Growth and Innovation is packed with useful information and priced at 99 cents. Mentoring is key to innovation and continues to depend on personal relationships, support systems, national and international collaboration, and commitment. The short review includes interviews with some of the major players involved in mentoring programs today. Tertiary tools are introduced to organize some of the many mentoring resources and expanding database of literature. The challenges and obstacles to successful mentoring include funding, attracting mentees, acquiring and retaining mentors, developing systems to follow the mentee, and time. Several innovative, sustainable programs related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are introduced as examples.
As one of the three authors, I think that "Mentoring Power," is unique in that it includes an overview of the subject of mentoring, is a how to book, includes interviews with some of the major players, identifies some incredible results of mentoring and collaboration in the life sciences and links to tertiary tools for more information. Although the examples included in the Ebook relate to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and the emphasis is the life sciences, the information presented relates to any subject area. Mentoring can have a beginning and an end or occur throughout the lifespan. The peaks and pitfalls of the process are included and no matter the technology, the process ultimately depends on personal relationships.
