Rayven T. Hill was born in 1954 in Markham, Ontario. He has had a variety of occupations and careers since then, spending the last fourteen years as a computer programmer and web site designer.
His first novel, written in 1960, was an instant hit with his mother and one sibling. He then put his career as a novelist aside for half a century to concentrate on making a living, but has now ventured back into the world of writing.
His first real novel, Blood and Justice, was published as an eBook in June 2013.
I had a hard time justifying a good rating for "Justice Overdue". Rayven Hill's version of what defines good parents is certainly far different from mine. I will now explain why I take that high road without trying to sound like a total snob.
Let's look at a couple examples. The father leaves two children alone in a forest and they quickly get lost and encounter a bear. Yikes. He also leaves them alone knowing there is a dead body on the side of the beach in full view of everybody and goes and looks for a cabin they saw in the first incident. His wife joins him in the forest and he leaves her alone while he looks for this criminal who has escaped from a max. prison. She gets abducted. She was so far from the kids that he could drag her off. They find another body and this continues. I was speechless at the laxity of these two parents.
There was a serious attempt to make these book suspenseful and intelligently written but it was far from the mark. The bottom line is the ending is somewhat lax and, heaven forbid, predictable.
2.5 stars. This book should be classified as action adventure rather than a mystery. Grammar, sentence structure and spelling are better than 99.9% of all Indie books ever published.
While the book is set in Canada, it is one of the strongest arguments for the Second Amendment in the United States I have ever seen. Concealed carry in Canada is technically possible, but unless you are a police officer or a judge, a "concealed" handgun is practically impossible. A handgun can only be "carried" in a locked trunk in a locked box with a locked trigger guard. There can be no ammunition stored with the gun. Ammunition must be stored in a seperate locked box.
Of course, criminals may be bound by the same rules, but they simply ignore them.
Open Carry is technically legal, but due to public perception, walking down a street in any medium to large town will probably end with the person carrying the weapon lying on the ground face down in a modified Iron Cross position, followed by a trip to the closest confinement facility.
OK. Enough editorializing. The characters in this book seemed to all be cosumed by a case of gross stupidity aggravated by blinding ignorance.
The Dad, searching for his wife, goes off without even a tire iron after his son finds his mother locked up in an old log cabin locked on the outside with padlocks.e with padlocks. IF he were to have super strength, I guess he wouldn't need anything additional.
Twice he tells his son and friend to stay and DO NOT LEAVE The Camping area. Sure, 8 year old boys listened to those instructions for nine minutes before they were more qualified to find the mom than Dad was. Can you spell Hah!
'Justice Overdue' was definitely a thrilling adventure. The storyline was well written and well thought out, as with the previous books in the 'Jake & Annie Lincoln Thriller Series'. The way the story played out was full of mystery, beautiful scenery, suspense and a massive manhunt. Jake and Annie were caught in the middle of a nightmare. Matty played a huge role in this book. He stepped up and his bravery was astounding for an eight year old. I look forward to reading more of this series. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.
Whenever you have a book by Rayven T. Hill, you know that you are in for a good read; They are good straight forward stories, no messing about where each chapter is a different person, or year, so that you lose the thread (well I do) No these go smoothly through, ramping up the excitement on the way, making for a brilliant read.
PI Jake Lincoln, Jake's son Matty, and Matty's friend Kyle decide to spend a few days camping in Algonquin Provincial Park. What they don't know is that serial killer Varick Lucas, having escaped from prison, is also planning to lie low for awhile in the Park ...
Jake Lincoln wanted a relaxing weekend away camping with his son Matty and his son's friend Kyle. Meanwhile Vargus Lucas escapes from prison. There is a lot going on as their paths cross. It's tense and has some twists. Good story.
I love this series and this one is no different. Jake and Anne never disappoint. The mystery in the book is great. There's always a twist you don't see coming!
When private investigator Jake decides to take his son and friend camping in a remote area, he never dreams what dangers await. When he discovers a man's dead body and learns a vicious escaped murderer is holed up in the area, he seeks aid of local police.
The action and fear level escalates from there...
When Jake's wife Annie goes missing, he suspects the killer has her. What he discovers next is chilling.
What does Jake do to get his wife back. How do the boys help? What delays the local police? And why does it take the Canadian Mounties so long to find the escaped killer?
In a surprise twist, you'll never believe who saves the day.
This author really knows how to involve his readers. I really cared deeply for this likable family and worried about them. Very well-written, excellent pacing. I look forward to reading more from this author.

First experience with this author, but so far so good. The character development was excellent and as a result I felt like I knew them all. The plot was also well developed with some unexpected, surprising turns. I have to say though I was terribly leery of Andy after he quickly left the camp without taking Jake with him and then when he saw the dead body and identified it as Otis and stated he was harmless and had been in the cabin basically forever, as though that was normal. All the while, I kept thinking that Otis had been buried by the lunatic and not left in clear view. Admittedly, though, I was hanging over a cliff when we knew for sure that Andy wasn't Andy. I expected more from Jake and was disappointed that he didn't shine much at all throughout. His wife and son definitely stole the limelight and they were both great characters!! Other than a few typos, an excellent, easy, exciting read.
It was the second book I have read from this author. It is fair and an easy read.
The characters are well developed and you do get a feel of empathy for the good guys, antipathy for the bad guy.
However, for me, it was a little to formula. That is to say, the danger just did not feel real, mostly because all of it could have been avoided for the hero's and was completely unavoidable for the bad guys.
None the less, it does get a 4 stars rating, because it was entertaining and easy to read.
VARICK LUCAS escaped from prison and on the run, taking hostages and killing them in cold blood on his way Finally losing the Royal Police Sargent Brewer by leaving false clues, he heads for a deserted cabin to hide out.
Jake and his wife, Private Investigators, get involved when innocently involved in a family trip ends up finding dead bodies in their camping grounds.
Great mystery that holds your attention through an intense story of a sound family striving to do the right thing in a face of drastic criminal acts.
I enjoyed Hill's story, characters, and excellent writing style. I bought this on a sale because I have never read any of his books before. However, I'll definitely look at more books in this series. Clean murder mystery without cursing, but very realistic. I loved his prison escape idea.
I have enjoyed the series, but this one less than the others.
It was hard to imagine the realism of some of the situations and whether people would really behave in that way. There was an element of humor that was brought in with one of the bumbling characters, but it was annoying a bit.
The author of this story keeps you in. Suspense you just can,t put it down nothing boring throughout the whole book. Intend to read all his series. Great Book enjoyed it.
Good story line. I enjoyed the description of the action happening in a Canadian forest park. I liked the characters. It was a good read - not five stars but enjoyable just the same.
This one is as good as the preceding ones. A page Turner for sure. These books stand on their own. however I have decided to read them in order . So far I have not been disappointed.
I enjoyed this book very much but it wasn't as good as some of the other books I've read by this author. It lacked the thrills and excitement the other books had. Still it was very good and I definitely recommend it.
Great Suspense as the weekend progresses. One becomes suspicious when neither the park personnel nor the local police don't respond relatively promptly.
This book held my attention from beginning to end. There was no offensive language and plenty of mystery. I am anxious to read more books in this series.
