Demon Debacles #4

My Demon Neighbor

Rate this book
Demons made great neighbors. I'd know, I had one...

Pythor might've started off teaching me how to defend myself, but he soon became my friend, and the only man I felt safe around.

The more time we spent together, the less I feared leaving the home I'd spent the last few months hiding in, especially when I knew he was just across the street.

With him and a sweet demonhound named Hella watching over me, I felt safe for the first time in almost a year.

Finding out he was my mate threw me for a loop, but it couldn't stop me from wanting him in my life. And when the past came calling back, I knew my demon would protect me.

My Demon Neighbor is an MM paranormal romance featuring a protective demon, a human on a mission to get his life back, and the sweetest dog. It features a low spice romance with lots of sweet, gentle moments, sky dates, trips to an art store, paintings, and more, and is the fourth book in the Demon Debacles series.

While My Demon Neighbor has a complete romance story, the series follows an overarching storyline and would be best read in order.

4.5/5 This is (generally) sweet and low-angst while still dealing with the topics of trauma and recovery from SA. (Do mind the triggers, but it centres around recovery with minor references to past events.) It was very empowering to see Codie recovering and figuring out how to get his life back (in an adapted way because there is no reset button here). Pythor offers a lot of help and support (as does Hella, the best dog ever), but Codie also does a lot of work, challenges himself, and takes care of himself.

I enjoyed seeing Codie come to realise he could completely trust and rely upon Pythor. I celebrated every win with him as he became more comfortable with the world again. I liked how Pythor’s support was practical (defense and physical presence) but also just understanding (play that music if it soothes you, don’t go outside if that’s too hard right now, wear that coat as often as you need to). Pythor’s the sort of partner I want everyone to have (if they want him, lol)!

I enjoyed the art, the flying, and the fun date idea. Also, Codie’s full acceptance of Pythor’s demon form. (And I’m laughing about the eill cookies had in everything.) I’m still curious to know what the dark souls are up to. We got a few more hints, but I’m ready for Demon Hacker!

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book and it has all the sweetness that I’ve come to expect from one of Stella Rainbow’s stories. I thought it was another good addition to the Demon Debacles Series. This book is connected to Stella’s Otherworld books it can be read as a standalone but you’ll get more enjoyment out of the book if you know the inner workings of the world that Stella has created.

This is fated mates story between Codie (human) & Pythor (demon). I thought that Codie and Pythor were perfect for each other. Man, my heart hurt for everything Codie has suffered through. I really hope that Codie’s best friend Nessa will find her own mate so she can learn all about the world that Codie is now apart of and find someone who’s protective and loves her and her daughter Alia greatly. All I can say is Codie is so bloody strong.

I’m glad that the monsters that hurt him and multiple other men totally got what they deserved, now their afterlife’s will be spent in the burning chasm which is nothing less than what they deserve for choosing to live their lives hurting others and getting away with it due to having money. I’m looking forward to reading the next book, My Demon Hacker when it’s released, as well as more books by Stella Rainbow in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

******I received a copy of this book because I’m a member of Stella’s Patreon. I happily reviewed this book and I would do so even if I purchased it. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******

My Demon Neighbor is an absolute treat, soft, tender, a little dark around the edges, and full of the gentle care that makes this series so addictive. Pythor and Codie’s story leans beautifully into comfort, healing, and quiet intimacy, and I adored every moment of it.

Codie’s trauma is handled with sensitivity: nothing graphic, nothing gratuitous, just enough to understand the weight he’s been carrying. And Pythor? He is exactly the kind of protective, patient demon anyone would be lucky to have across the street. The way he supports Codie so steadily without pushing, always creating a sense of safety really made my heart melt. Add Hella, the sweetest demonhound to ever exist, and this story becomes a warm hug wrapped around a second chance at life.

Their romance is low spice but rich in emotion: sky dates, art store trips, soft touches, slow trust, and the kind of relationship that builds itself out of care rather than grand declarations. Finding out they’re mates only deepens what’s already there.

This installment does have slightly darker undertones than the previous books, but it’s ultimately hopeful, gentle, and full of love. Pythor and Codie are perfect for each other, and by the end I was already desperate for the next book.

A sweet, comforting paranormal romance that continues the series’ overarching storyline while giving us a beautifully complete love story. Highly recommend!

~* ARC Review*~

--Fated mates-- Sweet/ low steam romance-- Who hurt you?-- Demonhound we all know and love-- hurtxcomfort-- painting as therapy + music as comfort-- self defense training--learning how to trust--

As a Stella Rainbow fan, this book is probably one of my favorites. With a low steam storyline, the sweet love, trust building, hurt x comfort aspect and overall bonding really really sold me.

Anytime I enter back into this realm, I know I will always get low angst, usually a sad backstory for 1 or more of the characters and SO much love and understanding. And this book is no different.
I love the beginning of the story where it feels like it will be an enemies x lovers aspect, but it's really just an annoyed neighbor x recluse loud neighbor.

The demon group chat confirms that lol.

Codie and Pythor make one of the cutest and patient couples in this realm. Codie is reclusive, afraid, paranoid and withdrawn due to a past incident. While Pythor isn't aware of this in the beginning, he slowly begins to understand. And why Pythor is a large fearsome demon in his normal form, he is the patient, loving and supportive partner Codie really needs in his life.

Throw in a nosy best friend, a heap of demons + mates and an adorable and comforting demon hound to round out the crew for this book.

I feel like the theme for this book is giving yourself more grace in life & learning how to rely on and lean on people around you. Even when it's scary and difficult.

Filled with growing love, found family, conquering personal 'demons' and finding inner strength, this story will keep you warm during the holiday season for sure.

For me, each and every book Stella publishes is fantastic. As an avid reader of her work, I have yet to find a character that I can't stand or that I wish was written differently in some way. Even when there is a heavier subject matter introduced in the story, in this case domestic violence, I consider her books to all be my go to comfort reads. She does such a wonderful job at delicately broaching tough topics without ever being offensive or disrespectful. No one's pain or life experiences ever feel minimized. I always feel validated and seen as a reader, and that means so much.

Codie and Pythor's book was awesome. I loved how aware Pythor was of Codie's boundaries and while he tried to be encouraging, he never pushed Codie or made him feel bad. He treated every accomplishment of Codie's as if it was important and meaningful. I would say that Codie did the same for Pythor in terms of their relationship. He was perfectly okay with only going as far as Pythor was comfortable with and didn't rush to define their feelings or be too intimate or sexual.

Hella also acted as an adorable comfort animal and companion . I wanted her to stay with them all the time. I never wanted the story to end. Thank you for letting me read an ARC copy!

(3.5)

I enjoy reading Stella's books, their characters are fun, dynamic, and I enjoy the overarching plotline that Stella has within this series.

The reason why my rating for this book was lower is because this one just fell a bit flat to me. I didn't feel much of a connection between the two MC's, there wasn't really a moment where I felt chemistry between them. Having said that though, I did like how Stella wrote about a really sensitive and raw topic in a very respectful way. I loved getting to see Hella again and we learn a bit more about Mammon, and how things might not be as they seem.

I also want to say, I liked that Stella wrote about characters who's main priority or want isn't about s*x. Often times in romance books there are Soo many steamy scenes, or where the focus is on steamy times more so than on deepening their character's relationship, but Stella didn't do that with these characters. Which I appreciated!

I also really loved the Recipromantic rep, I haven't come across that representation very much while reading and I enjoyed seeing that featured in this story.

All in all, not a bad book, this one just wasn't for me, but it could absolutely be for you!

Aww okay this one was cute

I deeply enjoy this series, and the fluffy and nice take on demons is unusual and enjoyable! I always know that when I need to read something cute and low-angst, I can go with those.

This one is no exception, despite Codie's past and struggles. That being said: I knew going into it that this book would be low spice, though, and it was proven to be true- but since I knew that fact going into it, I won't complain about that.

What I'm going to complain about is absolute backseat that the plot about the dark souls took- they nearly weren't talked about AT ALL, except for one and a half chapters, maybe? That really frustrated me- especially since the romance was really slow, and I had nothing else to focus on, hence why it took me a while to finish the book.

Still, I really enjoyed it! It was cute and the MCs were really liable. I'm curious about the next pairing, and I REALLY hope to see the story finally progress again!

I didn't care what the fated mates thing meant to him. I didn't care if it would be romantic or platonic for us. I didn't care about anything except the fact that I needed Pythor. I needed him, and he wasn't here because I'd stupidly sent him away.

Codie, scarred by past trauma, finds unexpected safety and companionship in his demon neighbour, Pythor. What begins as self-defence lessons grows into deep trust and friendship, with Pythor becoming the only person Codie feels secure around. Supported by Pythor and his loyal demonhound Hella, Codie slowly regains confidence to step beyond the isolation of his home. Discovering that Pythor is his fated mate surprises him, but only strengthens his desire to keep him close. When Codie’s past resurfaces, he knows his protective demon will stand by him.

This story blended trauma recovery, trust, destiny, found family, and empowerment into a narrative about how love — even in its most unconventional forms — can heal and transform. I loved that it was rich with emotional and symbolic layers. After his sexual assault, Codie had isolated himself, hiding from the world. Pythor giving Codie self-defence classes and Hella being his protector were more than enough to give him his confidence back. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

Sweet Demon!

This was a very sweet low spice and pretty low angst romance between another one of the demon’s and a human who’s on a journey of healing. Codie went through a terrible experience and since then has stayed inside his home unable to leave. He’s trying his best to heal and wants to learn how to defend himself which is how he and Pythor his neighbour and a demon who happens to be his mate end up spending lots of time together. From the moment they meet Codie feels that Pythor is a safe person and all Pythor wants to do is protect his mate and make sure nothing bad ever happens to him again. Which includes “giving” Codie a demon hound to keep him company and protect him. Most of this book is incredibly sweet and I loved seeing these two get to know one another and seeing Codie heal. There were a few darker moments but they were either talking about Codie’s past or totally deserved. Overall this book was very sweet and I especially loved Codie’s relationship with his best friend!

When Pythor moves into his new home he doesn't expect to be kept up all night by a noisy neighbor. He especially doesn't expect said neighbor to be his mate! Codie is stuck inside his home across the street from Pythor due to his PTSD. As they become acquainted and he helps Codie with self-defense training, he forgets about the security cameras and oops! He's got some explaining to do! Of course, Hella the demon pup is there to help along with the rest of the mated couples from books 1-3.
This book is a slow burn tale of overcoming fear to grab what makes you happy with both hands. Also includes hurt/comfort, Hella shenanigans, and a heaping helping of revenge/justice (mind the T.W. list) while the overarching search for Mammon continues. Will be watching for book five in this series!

Codie and Pythor’s book is so good. When they meet it’s clear to Pythor that something happened in Codie’s past. I love how Pythor is a soft, sweet, kind, and understanding mate. He does his best to help Codie through his trauma and regain his life with the help of Hella, the bestest demon doggo ever. This book has major hurt/comfort vibes, very low angst, low spice, but full of emotion and safety. While this book does go into what happened to Codie it is handled with respect and there is no graphic detail, just enough to let the reader know what happened. This book is emotional and well written, I enjoyed it very much.

Love these Demon-human mate-matches. Pythor was perfect for Codie, sweet, protective, understanding & supportive, in all the ways needed. He helped make Codie's life a little brighter, more magical, and infinitely safer & more comfortable all around. Hella makes her appearance in this book, too, missed the good girl. With a bit of magic, help from friends, and perhaps Fate, they overcome past trauma & embrace a friendship/relationship that changes both of their lives. Loved the cameos from past books/series, revisiting old friends & making new ones. A hurt-comfort, sweet & satisfying romantic read.

Codie and Pythor’s story honestly gave me all the warm fuzzies. The minute they meet, you can tell Codie’s been through something and Pythor just gets it without making a big deal out of it.

He’s soft, sweet and ridiculously patient in that ‘I’m here, but I’m not pushing’ way. And Hella? That chaotic little demon dog is my new favorite creature.

I loved how Codie’s past was written in such a way that it didn’t require to be graphic or dramatic. It was respectful, just enough to understand him and the focus stays on healing and comfort.

Super low angst, barely any spice but so full of emotion and safety. It was just such a feel good story.

My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If not, I respect your opinion. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous. My review is honest and voluntary.

This series is entertaining enough, nothing grand, but a fun read overall. Almost didn't read it because the cover looks like the model is from the 80s. Sometimes I wonder why authors constrain themselves to the specific look of a model rather than describing a character so that the reader can "imagine" them. Other than that, it was a bit predictable but sweet. This one was a bit darker than usual.

On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

CODIE AND PYTHOR ARE SWEETNESS DIVINE!

Codie has dealt with a tramatizing experience, and now he is trying to cope with it. Codie, sweet precious Codie, I felt so much for him. Each time he had a panic attack, I wanted to hold him, each little positive step he took, I rooted for him. Pythor is such a perfect and wonderful mate to Codie. He's there for him and being so helpful to Codie. Hella is a wonderful emotional and protective support fur baby. I really loved them!! Beautiful read!

Pythor and Codie! This was such a cute book, though it did have some darker aspects than others. Nothing was shown in the book, just briefly talked about. Poor Codie, he went through a horrible experience but thankfully Pythor was there for him in the exact way he needed! This was such a good book, I cannot wait for the next one!

Another fantastic book by Stella! Pythor was an absolute sweetheart and I loved how caring, protective and patient he was with Codie.

Poor Codie had a traumatic past and my heart broke for what he went through. Pythor slowly bought Codie out of his shell, encouraging him, to take control of his life once more. I was rooting for these two.

A beautiful fated mates story!

Emotional read

Pythor and Codie is a story of love healing one's soulmate. Annoyance turned into wonder and a slow courtship that gives strength. Codie learns to move on with help from friends, lover , and emotional support hellhound. The story references sexual assault and it's aftermath. You get Mamon and dark souls making an appearance and still nothing on what the ultimate goal is.
