A satisfying cryptid tale.
🏕️The writing was descriptive enough to make me feel a little lost in the woods. The story had a good deal of Wendigo lore and background on how this creature comes into existence and how it is sustained.
🏕️The Wendigo is an interesting cryptid because it inhabits the basest of human cruelty. It's sort of an animal representation of the worst of humanity.
🏕️This is a great intro to the Wendigo story because it provides the folkloric background of the beast, so if you don't know anything about the Wendigo, this is not a bad place to start. Some of this repeated information dragged the story a bit, but overall this was a very entertaining short story with a satisfying conclusion. It was spooky, descriptive, and has me excited (and terrified) to go tent camping in the mountains this summer!

This one ended up falling flat for me. I enjoyed the first part of the story. Then it started getting repetitive and long winded. The second half didn't really seem needed. It just didn't work for me. And the second half dragged out the story and did not really add much (of interest/importance/detail) to the story.

Oh boy writing the first review of this book is a lot of pressure😂😂
Overall I definitely enjoyed it. The setting was creepy and I love a good deep woods cryptid horror story, especially the Wendigo, which happens to be my favorite cryptid.
It was very very descriptive, almost making me feel like I can hear the wind howling in the real world. At some points the descriptions do get a bit repetitive with the same descriptive words consecutively in a few sentences. But that's just a personal pet peeve.
I also believe the story was a bit longer than it needed to be, repeating the same ideas over and over a couple of paragraphs from when the idea was originally mentioned. I think the story would have flowed a bit better with some removal of repetitive ideas, it made me lose interest in the story just a tad.
It did have a great ending and is definitely worth reading to the end for, especially if you are a big Wendigo fan like myself!

Chose to read this because I have a fascination with the Wendigo of Algonquian folklore and the subject of Algernon Blackwood's 1910 novella. The "Wendigo" in this book by a completely different Blackwood uses the Wendigo as an all-purpose antlered monster of the north woods without understanding the myth. My first experience with AI narration--didn't make the book any better, but I have heard lots worse from real human narrators.

I do enjoy Ethan Blackwood’s stories. I find them intriguing, creepy , scary and highly addictive!
