Let the world burn

Rate this book
In the heart of Transylvanian forests, a man bound by shadows lives between the realms of myth and sorrow. Known as Contele Carol, Karl is the last of a cursed bloodline, an immortal soul bearing the weight of a fate he never chose and a curse he refuses to pass on.

When Charlotte Ivanovici, a brilliant and driven historian, arrives to uncover the truth buried beneath centuries of history, she awakens more than old legends.

Drawn to one another by forces neither fully understands, their bond defies time, logic, and the fragile line between life and death. But love, in Karl's world, is never without consequences.

As ancient truths rise and destinies unravel, the line between salvation and damnation grows perilously thin. In their hands lies a choice that could end a legacy of suffering or ignite a tragedy greater than any that came before.

Will their love conquer the curse?
Or will their world burn to ashes?

About the author

Anne M. Garnette

4 books5 followers
Anne writes emotionally layered contemporary romance that delves deep into love, loss and the resilience of the human heart.

Her debut novel, "Until I find you again" introduced readers to her signature blend of lyrical prose and raw emotion, while her darker standalone, "Let the world burn" was the book that she wrote for her own soul, a bold and cathartic exploration of healing through darkness.

Anne holds degrees in Spanish Literature and Modern Greek Literature, with a background in Classical Studies. Away from the pages of her stories, she balances her corporate career with her creative life, a contrast reflected in her inked skin and her stories' unapologetic honesty.

She lives with her husband, their daughter and a ginger cat who's certain the world revolves around him.

This was a turn from what I've been reading lately (mostly romantasy). It was a pleasant surprise, different but in a good way. It was closer to a 3.75 star but Im still ok with the 4 star rating.

I enjoyed the different take she had on a MMC and who he was. The way he was written made it more believable that it could have been real.

I liked the spunk of the FMC too. I wish there was a little more pulled out in how the story wrapped together, sometimes felt a little "jolty" but was still a good read. It picked up more for me after the hallway point and had me teary eyed at the end. I usually like different types of endings, but this one fit this story and was beautiful. Made you think more about your life and what's important in it which is why I think ending on a 4 star sits well.

Hopefully others give the book a shot, it was enjoyable and a pleasant departure from my norm which I think any reader should do from time to time. Happy reading all!

I loved the book! As a Romanian myself, I was immediately drawn in by the setting, it’s heartwarming to read about your favourite places and about bits of your history, and Eminescu’s lines blend in perfectly!
I appreciate how subtly you handled the touch of mystery - it added a richness to the story without overwhelming it.
But what really impressed me was the way you wove together history, humor, and suspense to create a narrative that's both engaging and unpredictable. There were moments that had me laughing out loud, and others that kept me up late at night, desperate to know what would happen next.
And I have to admit, I'm not typically a fan of fantasy or paranormal themes, but you managed to make it work in a way that felt authentic and captivating.
The ending was emotional and heart-wrenching, leaving me in tears. Your courage in blending genres and pushing boundaries paid off in spades, I am very proud of you! 🤍

This book was very well written. Especially the MMC. Now he’s a man I can easily fall for, and did. The story was really compelling and I just kept reading and reading until I ran out of pages and it was 3 am. Oh and the plot twist…did not see that coming! I thought I knew what I would be getting when I started this book but I was very surprised at how much better it was than I expected. I went in thinking it was going to be just another vampire romance, but it had much more to it than that. This story was beautiful. And the fact it’s based in Romanian lore made it even better.

I had the honor of receiving an ARC copy of this book.
Anne is an extremely talented author and I must say that she has taken me by surprise with this one. I was expecting a normal exotic vampire romance; but what I got was so much more.

Let The World Burn is not your typical vampire book... no, this book is based loosely on actual Romanian lore. The MMC is so beautifully written that one can't help but fall in love with his gentle nature.
There is a plot twist here which I thought I had figured out but I was so wrong.
The first half of the book is sprinkled with little gifts of Romanian history which helped me create this sacred world in my head, gifting me the ability to visualize the scenes like a motion picture.

Charlotte and Karl have a beautiful love story, one that is bound by a curse but ultimately ruled by the purity of their love. He would literally let the world burn for her. They are tested through trials of fates cruel hand; but love conquers all right?
Is there a happily ever here?
I think that is subjective and depends on the reader. Personally I do feel that they did get their HEA, making this masterpiece beautifully tragic in the best way.
Yes, you will cry.
If you are looking for a vampire romance that is a little different from the rest then I highly recommend this one.
An overall wholesome read with the yearning, the romance, the spice and history all wrapped up in a pretty little package.

Thank you Anne for allowing me the opportunity to read something so special and dear to you.

As a Romanian reader with a lifelong passion for history, Let the World Burn by Anne M. Garnette captivated me from the very first page. The author masterfully blends rich historical detail with powerful storytelling, creating a narrative that feels both immersive and emotionally resonant.

What impressed me most was the authenticity of the historical atmosphere—every scene is crafted with precision, offering a vivid sense of time and place without ever feeling overwhelming. The characters are complex, their motivations deeply human, and their struggles echo the timeless themes of courage, loyalty, and sacrifice that any history enthusiast will recognize.

Garnette’s writing strikes a perfect balance between tension and reflection, making the story impossible to put down. I found myself completely transported, eager to follow each new twist while also appreciating the thoughtful nuances woven throughout the narrative.

Let the World Burn is a beautifully written, gripping, and unforgettable novel. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who loves history, compelling characters, and stories that linger long after the final chapter.
