Quick and sweet story. I liked the plot and the characters. I quite enjoy Christian romances, however, I found this to be a bit too preachy. Other than that, Derek & Rose’s story was cute albeit a tiny bit dull.
This is another wonderfully inspiring story by an amazing Christian author. Jessie's books have real characters with relatable stories and how they dealt with real world type problems such as divorce and honesty and crisis of faith. This story also has a happy ending and few life lessons for us, as well.
Rose's husband left her for another woman. He had been telling Rose that he wasn't ready for children and then married another woman who had children. Rose was brokenhearted and left without the one thing she wants most; children and a loving husband. Her ex-husband and his current wife are really rude and mean to Rose and in a moment of weakness, she tells them that she is dating something and they are almost engaged.
Derek's wife left him for another man. He also is left without children. He returns to the small North Dakota town to help his parents with their farm; hoping to buy it from them. He is also looking for a caregiver for his grandparents to help them with some of the tasks that are more difficult for them now. When he overhears that Rose has just lost her job at the diner, he offers her the job and agrees to be her fake boyfriend for a month. When that relationship becomes less fake and more real, will they want to extend the expiration date? Will they both find their happy ending?
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I enjoyed this book. I liked how the fake relationship changed into a real one quickly. I liked how Derek was willing to go along with the whole scheme. I also liked how Rose and Derek were able to be there for each other and understood each other since they had gone through similar things. I also liked how they liked each other for who they were instead of how they looked.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Cowboy Walking Away, the first book in Jessie Gussman's Coming Home to North Dakota series, gives readers new characters to meet in a familiar town: Sweet Water, North Dakota. It takes place a few years after the Sweet Water series because by the time of this book, Sawyer and Georgia have been married for 10 years, and Lark is a veterinarian, a profession that requires seven years of training. Rose, younger sister of Coleman (featured in book 6) and a recent divorcee due to her ex-husband's cheating, runs into her ex, Harry, and his second wife, Leah, who he married right after leaving Rose, at the annual Valentine's Sweetheart banquet, where she and her unattached sister Lavender are serving. Both Harry and Leah are rude to her, prompting Rose to telling them that she's in a serious relationship. Derek, who has returned to Sweet Water after being left by his wife in The Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul), rescues her by saying that he's the boyfriend and is crazy about her. She was goaded into telling the rude couple that she was in a serious relationship, and they didn't believe her. He tells them he's so attached to Rose he won't let her go. Charlene, elderly Piece Makers quilter and Sweet Water matchmaker, suggests that Rose and Derek enter the town's Newlywed Game, and Harry and Leah promptly announce their own entry. Rose and Derek are now apparently fake dating, though their divorce scars cause them to agree to one month only, until the end of the Dating Game. When Derek visits his grandparents, whose ranch he's considering buying from them, he learns that their previous hired man stole animals, equipment, and money from them, leaving them with hardly any stock and no way for Derek to run the farm successfully. They don't intend to prosecute the thief, which impresses Derek despite his disappointment. He tells Rose but convinces her not to tell anyone else in town. Sweet Water is, like most small towns, a hotbed of gossip, and he doesn't want to embarrass his Gram and Pap. Derek and Rose are attracted to each other, but every time they're about to kiss, someone interrupts them. The biggest offender is the mother of Naomi, a sweet little girl who seems more attached to Rose than to her mother, who assumes Rose will watch her daughter and leaves her with Rose for several days running. Rose always wanted children, but her ex put her off--and then got his second wife pregnant before leaving her. So she jumps at the chance to care for a child, and Derek surprises her by letting go of his plans to join her and Naomi for an evening of games and a trip to Rose's family's auction barn. The little girl has a wonderful, exhausting time, and Rose is charmed by his knack for childcare and his devotion to helping her watch Naomi, when her ex would have resented the change in plans and told her so. The Dating Game day arrives, and the couples answer the questions separately. Vicki, another Piece Maker, emcees the game, which includes Brawley Parker, a gregarious single man, paired with a shy woman he's never met; Rose and Derek, who've been "dating" for a month; her ex and his wife, who've been married for one year; and Sawyer and Georgia, who've been married for a decade. Unsurprisingly, Brawley and his assigned partner hardly match answers at all; Harry and Leah argue whenever their answers differ; and Sawyer and Georgia take the lead. Surprisingly, Rose and Derek are a strong second, having paid attention to each other. The final question is "What question are you afraid to ask your partner?" and Derek has answered, "Will you marry me?" Of course, Rose says "yes", and Vicki commands them to kiss. Finally, there are no interruptions, and the newly engaged couple can express their emotions! Jessie Gussman has the gift of writing well, and she skillfully creates nuanced characters. Even the thief promises to return what he stole from Derek's Gram and Pap, and the problem Derek anticipated with the farm is no longer a problem. Gram and Pap's dedication to doing the right thing, instead of pursuing the world's idea of "justice", is rewarded, and Rose and Derek agree that it was God's answer to their Biblical response to the thief. Gussman's Christian references are inserted subtly within the context of the characters' beliefs and don't feel awkward or cheesy, which is a criticism I have of "Christian" novels where everyone gets saved, my own faith notwithstanding. I rooted for Rose and Derek from the start, and I hoped their path to true love would run smooth. I shouldn't have worried; their only problems within the story were Derek's bleak farming future and Rose's persecution by Harry and Leah, which were both to be expected. Despite the puzzling title (who walked away?), I very highly recommend this book, and I'm eager to read the rest of the series!
Rose's ex had told her he wanted kids right away before they were married. So had Derek's ex, who'd told him she didn't want to be a country girl and had demanded he move to the Cities. When both of them had married in their separate lives, both their exes had said it would be better to wait to have kids until they were more "established." Then both had discovered their spouses were cheating on them - wirh people who already had multiple kids, amd in Rose's case, the other woman was pregnant. Both had been divorced and left without the families they had craved. Rose is helping out with the town's Valentine's Day banquet as an unattached female, and her ex is being more catty than his new wife, making belittling comments about her being unable to find a man because no one can stand her. Hurt and angry, not to mention betrayed, she lies and says she has someone, eventually having to backtrack and admit the lie, eventually having to face her ex. As for Derek, he moves back, because he always wanted to take over the ranch and his grandparents could also use some help. When he is in town to get supplies for repairs, he stops by the diner for pie and overhears as Rose is laid off to make room for the owner's niece to take the job, something her family is pressuring her to do even though the niece is unreliable and Rose is very reliable. He recognizes Rose as someone with whom he was graduated from high school. As he sees her flee the diner, he pays the bill quickly and follows her, wanting to hire her as a helper for his grandparents after having heard the owner's praise of her excellent work ethic. She accepts. He knows her family holds the local auctions of all sorts of animals and farm equipment, and works late 2 nights a week for her family. Amd so they make arrangememts for her to help his grandparents. But the ranch is in much worse shape than he realized. Can he make a go of it with his limited resources in the face of the losses? With Rose's natural affinity for kids (and theirs for her), her love of ranching, her astute questions when they need information on a venture that may save the ranch, his love for kids, have the 2 of them got more in common than their cheating spouses? Is this the continuation of a childhood friendship or something more?
Joy Comes in the Morning … but a lot of pain comes first
This is very different than I thought it would be. I love a sweet, clean storyline showing how faith works in everyday life. This definitely did that, maybe a little too much. It seems like Rose used ‘faith’ as an excuse to be in denial. I don’t doubt her guilty feelings but her ‘turning the other cheek’ on anything and everything almost seemed like she allowed fear to rule.
Rose is right, revenge is not hers to take, but allowing others to run all over her isn’t good either. Harry and Leah are two good examples. Allowing them to constantly berate her helps none of them, Rose, Harry or Leah. It only allows Harry and Leah to continue in their ‘sin’. They both ‘rub it in’ on Rose that Harry, her adulterous ex, left her for Leah. They chide her in private and public and no one challenges them on how they justify their diarrhea of the mouth, let alone their actual adultery . It seems Harry/Leah claim to be believers since they are church ‘pew sitters’ , but where is their repentance? There’s no remorse, let alone guilt, only smugness and callousness on their part.
🤔 WANTS, DESIRES, OBSERVATIONS
✒︎ I wanted more depth into Harry’s and Leah’s inner thoughts, especially Harry’s. We get Rose’s loud and clear, but not Harry/Leah. We are ‘told’ they will pay for their sin(s) but we never ‘see’ it, whether it be feelings of remorse, guilt, or?????. It’s just not here. King David was a man after God’s own heart, but he still paid for his bad choices and scripture let us ‘see’ how.
✒︎ We get to ‘see’ the redemption of the man who stole from the elderly grandparents. His contrition is real but he’s really not a major part of this story.
✒︎ Yes, it’s good to ‘see’ Rose and Derek get their HEA, especially with what they both suffered. Adultery never is easy for the one left behind and, yes, the cheater one day will suffer the consequences, but it would be nice to see just how the cheater deals with his/her choices.
The start of a new series is always fun to read as you meet many of the characters that will be in other books in the series. This series Coming Home to North Dakota has something extra to offer as it gives us a peak into some of the characters in the Sweet Water Ranch Western Cowboy Romance Series about ten years later.
This story is about second chances at happiness after both the H and h have been abandoned by their spouses. Rose Baldwin's dream from childhood was to be a wife and mother. Her dreams were crushed when her husband of five years chose not to have children and after cheating on her with a married woman- Rose has to sit by and watch him with his new wife and children. When they taunt her at a Valentine's party- she comes out with a lie that she is seeing someone. Now in this small town she either has to come clean or come up with a fake boyfriend.
Derek Fields left town to go live in the big city to satisfy his wife. When she left him for someone else he decided to go home to North Dakota and buy his grandparent's farm. His grandparents were getting older and he needed to hire someone to do small jobs around the house to help them out. When he accidentally overheard Rose being let go from her waitress job- he decided she might be the one to help him out.
When the Ladies Quilting Group decides to help Rose out of her predicament they decide that Derek would make the perfect fake boyfriend and Dating Game partner in the Piece Maker’s Dating Game.
These two have a hard time telling people they are dating because they both hate to lie. So instead they decide to date for a month so they won't be lying. Could that one month turn into something much more ?
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Leave it to Jessie Gussman to bring us back to North Dakota with romance. Derek is back in Sweetwater taking care of his beloved grandparents after he found out his wife Stephanie was cheating on him. Not only that she said she didn’t want children and left him for a man with three. On the other side of the broken heart we have Rose, her husband Frank left her for a vicious woman. Frank also said he didn’t want children then left Rose for Dee, Who promptly had his baby and added it to the three she already had. While helping Patty, from Patty’s café caterer sweetheart dinner in Sweetwater. Unfortunately that included Frank and D. After she has enough of their snide comments she unexpectedly blurted out that not only does she have a special someone, but he’s about to propose. The only problem is… It’s not true! This is when the quilting bee gets together and decides that Rose should get a fake boyfriend. Now this conversation is happening less than an hour after she finds out her boss at the café have to hire her knees and she must let Rose go. She is having the worst day and now would be a great time for a hero to enter the picture and he does in the form of Derek. This book was so good I am so happy Jessie Gussman decided to bring it back to Sweetwater those are my favorite books ever and I include this one in the bunch. If you love love and get a thrill from slow and steady romance you would love this book, I did! I highly recommend it to those who love contemporary romance and don’t mind Jesus being a main character. Please forgive any grammatical or punctuational errors as I am blind and dictate my review but I’ll opinions on my own.
Cowboy Walking Away is a story about Derek and Rose that grew up together and was in the same grade at school in Sweet Water. Derek married Stephanie that said she didn't want any children and he always thought that you married and had a family of your own. She wanted to move into the city away from Sweet Water. He had received his business agree and was working in corporate America for the last 10 years. He accepted the fact that Stephanie was not going to have any children so he was just trying to keep their marriage going. Little did he know she had hooked up with another man , with children, and left Derek. He wanted to come back home to help his grandparents on their farm and let his heart heal. He knew his grandparents needed a little help. Derek wanted to find someone that would come in some during the week to help them while he worked the farm.
Rose had always wanted to be married and a mama. She had married Harry and he had said they would have children when they were more financially prepared. Rose was hurt but she had accepted the situation until he leaves her for another woman who has children and they are pregnant when they marry. What is worst Harry and Leah are attending the same congregation as Rose. At the Valentine's sweetheart banquet Rose and one of her sister's were doing all the serving for the couples. Harry and Leah were acting all lovey dovey to spite Rose. They even made a snide remark about Rose having to serve since she has no boyfriend. But the words that came out of Rose's mouth would set her life in a different direction and swoop Derek right up in there with her.
Rose’s dream of marriage and children ended in catastrophe when her husband left her. After denying her children for five years he lost no time starting a family with another woman. Rose tried to keep a Christian attitude toward the couple at the Valentine’s Day Sweetheart’s Banquet but when they seemed to imply that no one would want her she lied and said she was in a relationship. Rose never lied and she knew she needed to confess but it was hard. When the ladies in her quilting society suggested she hire a temporary boyfriend, Rose decided it was the solution she needed to negate the lie.
When Derek Fields followed his bride to the city he never thought he would return to the small town of Sweet Water, but when she left him for another man Derek returned to his roots. Helping his aging grandparents on their ranch he realized that he loved North Dakota and wanted to stay. He still needed to hire someone to help them and when he approached Rose Baldwin about the job and overheard the quilting ladies discussing her problem and why she had lied, to begin with, Derek volunteered to be her “boyfriend”. Besides, there was something about the woman that made him want to spend more time with her.
I loved the chemistry between Rose and Derek. They seemed meant for each other. I received a free book but this review is voluntary and honest. This is a clean romance that I really enjoyed.
This book offers readers a sweet second chance at love romance between two people who have good reason to have guarded hearts. Derek and Rose both had spouses who deceived and cheated on them. Despite this, they are both open to love and relationships again, though this time they are seeking God’s guidance. They are not complete strangers to each other having grown up in the same town and being in the same class during school, but Derek has just returned to his grandparents’ farm after ten years of living in the city. He is ready to go back to his roots and run the farm like he has always wanted to do. Rose is once again living with her mother and sisters, working a couple of jobs to keep busy. At a Valentine’s Day event, an encounter with her ex and his new wife leads to lie that is laying heavily on Rose’s conscience. Derek is willing to act as Rose’s fake boyfriend in order to help her and to keep her from being humiliated. Both soon agree, however, that perpetuating the lie is not the right way forward, but they also agree to go out on a real date. Spending time together proves to be no hardship for either of them, and they find they have a lot more in common then just their disastrous first marriages. Learning to follow God’s guidance and wishes is hard , but Derek and Rose soon learn that doing so has great rewards. Their story is full of wisdom and inspiration.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review
I am going to put a little disclaimer on this review by saying that Christian romance isn’t my forte, or my preferred choice of genre. Hence why my review might sound critical when I’m not meaning to be it was just how I was feeling while reading it. Plus going into it. I didn’t know this was a Christian romance and I just thought it was a sweet romance so when the Faith base stuff kept coming, it was a little shocking to me because I wasn’t expecting it.
Overall, I really did enjoy the romance between Rose and Derek. I thought it was very sweet and wholesome. It felt very romantic at time as they spent more and more time together. And it was beautiful to see them fall in love over the course of the story. Plus, I just really liked them together and thought they fit well. My issue with us was how much religion and faith based language was in there. As stated above, I was not expecting that so when it kept hitting me again, and again, it just felt a little much to me. It was too preachy at times, and it was just a lot thrown in all one cent. Even though the romance was good, this was it the example of why I stay away from Christian romances, because of how much faith and religion is put into the story. That’s just personally not my cup of tea, and some thing that I can take in small doses, but not Inundated with it throughout the story. It just became too much for me personally.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
To be honest the only reason I had picked up this particular title was because I needed a book for the State of North Dakota and this one was the first book series that popped up.
While I wasn't much for Christian influence or the cleanliness of said book. It was a really good book over all, the characters were really well written and I did like how Rose (FMC) was made to feel validated in her feelings with jealousy over the fact that her cheating ex-husband Harry had stepped out of their Marriage and into another marriage with an already married woman. And she felt like she wasn't loved because everyone else around her were getting their happy ending and she wasn't getting hers'.
I also love how Derek was willing to go along with the lie at first but when it came time to tell his Grandparents who he had hired Rose to help Gram since they are getting on in age and Rose had been let go from her job. I really loved the Chapter Headers that were helpful and honest marriage advice from different woman in many different states. I also loved how Derek stood by her as Rose confessed that she had lied initially about her relationship status even though she was seeing Derek. It was pretty humbling to see people not just preaching God's words but also following the advice themselves.
Is she honest or is she not? Nothing is harder to do for a divorced woman than to have to wait on her ex and his current wife that he cheated on with while still being married to her. I pondered this story trying to think of what was meaningful to me. I wanted to listen to this a second time in order to grasp the full meaning. Yes, I did catch a lot of things the second time around that went over my head the first time. Jessie’s words and Jay’s talent with bringing those words to life are a plus. Derek and Rose started off with a fake relationship by mutual agreement initially because Rose lied about having a serious boyfriend. I appreciate the fact that Rose felt guilty with the lie and wanted to make it right and Derek wanted to help her. This is a great Christian principle that warrants a good example and this book by Jessie Gussman delivers. There are other examples in this book of the importance of living good Christian lives which are well spoken but not preachy. I love all the characters in this book. They are all well written and illustrate real life people. I can easily highly recommend any of Jessie Gussman’s works. I can never get enough of them.
After being fired from her waitressing job and coming face-to-face with her ex, Rose Baldwin lets a little lie escape.
She forgot there is no such thing as a “little” lie.
Knowing she has to go and confess that she lied, she allows herself to be talked into playing The Piece Maker’s Dating Game and somehow ends up “fake-dating” her partner.
Derek Fields is a rancher intent on buying his grandparents farm. His wife left him and he’s ready to come home and settle down.
But he needs a caregiver and the one that seems to have fallen into his lap is his Dating Game partner and also the woman he’s agreed to “fake-date.”
Only neither one of them are good liars and their straw house could never survive the wild North Dakota wind…or could it?
Do they have the character and faith to face their problems and build a solid foundation together?
Cowboy Walking Away (Coming Home To North Dakota, Book 1) - is a full-length complete sweet romance audio book written by USA Today best-selling author Jessie Gussman, narrated by Jay Dyess.
We are back in North Dakota with this new series titled Coming Home to North Dakota. If you have read previous stories by this author, you’ll be familiar with some of the characters that make cameo appearances. This story centers around Rose Baldwin and Derek Fields. These two individuals have been betrayed by their spouses and left to pick up the pieces of their hearts and lives. Neither is looking for a relationship but when a “white lie” leaves Rose needing a “fake boyfriend” and Derek needing the services of a caretaker for his grandparents, he sees this are the perfect solution. What happens when the make believe starts feeling real? Will they take a chance at love once again, or will their past hinder them from finding true love? This was a sweet, clean , Christian story that will touch your hearts. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I really liked this first book in Jessie's new series! The book was filled with wonderful characters searching their faith for answers to their heartfelt questions. It was thought provoking at times and made me ponder what I would do in the same situation, It also made me feel closer to the characters, especially Rose. Rose and Derek felt so real with their perceived flaws. I found I could really relate to Rose, her divorce, and her love of children. I think Derek was one in a million and I enjoyed the Dating Game that he and Rose played. I liked Rose's family and Derek's Gram and Paps. They were such fun supporting characters. This story was full of humor too, which made it so much fun to read. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
All Rose wanted her whole life was to be a mom, so when she got married she thought her dream was finally going to come true. Her dreams were put on hold for a while due to circumstances beyond her control but God had everything under control. I love all of the characters, well maybe accept Harry & Leah lol. If I can love some characters and others make me mad then Jessie did an amazing job. This was such a fun story and there is a part at the end that I just love. The way Jessie Gussman wrote this story was like I was living on the farm with Gram & Pap, Dereck & Rose. I also love how the quilting ladies rallied around Rose and would do anything to protect her even coming up with some outlandish scheme. A job well done by this talented author. “I received ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.”
I really loved his book! The strength of character shown by Derek and Rose and how Rose, especially, had to endure a real trial by fire before she got her happily ever after was inspiring!
The side story of Derek’s grandparents just floored me and at the same time made me think about what I would have done in a similar situation. I, like Derek, was humbled and inspired to take a hard look at the things I place importance on.
I love Jessie Gussman’s books because each one not only has interesting plots and fun farmer/farming descriptions, but each one really causes you the think about your own Christian values and the practicing of them in your own life.
I have yet to read a Jessie Gussman book that I didn’t love and I’ve read them all!
As much as I enjoyed this story, I felt like the title didn't fit. Though I'm not sure what it should be at this point, it may come to me as I read more of this series.
Derek and Rose definitely complement each other. If they didn't believe in soulmates before, they do now.
Quotes from the book I liked:
"Once you have it all and you lose it, it makes you appreciate it because you realize what the true blessings are in life. The things that money can't buy." Page 96
Base your marriage on faith in God. Stand by your vows. Love is a choice, not just a feeling. Choose love, even in the hard times and there will be hard times. Remember no one is perfect, even you. Learn to forgive quickly. From Chapter 15.
Coming Home to North Dakota (12 book series) Enjoy and happy reading!
Another fantastic book by our Jessie Gussman! Cowboy Walking Away is a story of a married woman, who was a faithful wife, yet her husband leaves her for another woman, with three kids, even though he kept putting off having children with his own wife, Rose! So, Rose ends up being a server to her ex and his new wife, and embarrassingly blurts out that she is engaged. Oops! Why did she do that? And how is she going to explain this? Well, her old boyfriend, Derek, whose wife divorced HIM so she could marry someone mire appealing to her, has returned to town. He finds out about her debacle and says they can be “fake” engaged. But, the old love they had for each other, in their school years, starts shining through, as Jessie leads us through their tale of adventures and misadventures! lol It is written so well, with lots of fun and laughter and some melancholy, that you are kept entertained from the first page to the last. What I love about it, is the message of Jesus’s mercy, grace, and hope for those who love the Lord! Better not let this book slip by you because it is extremely great! ♥️🙏
I love Jessie's books. They are down to earth with characters that are just like you and me. She has faith in her books, and we all could use a little of that every now and then.
Rose and Derek both didn't have the best 1st marriages. Rose lives in the same town with her ex, and his new family, that's not easy.... at all! Derek luckily if you want to call it that, was able to escape his ex and HER new family and come back home to North Dakota to family and new beginnings. One lie changes everything.
If you're looking for some small town family, friends, and where everyone knows your name... and your business, this is the book for you!
I was gifted an ARC copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Great characters and storyline. Fun beginning to a new series with godly messages. Rose was married to Harry for five years before he left her for a married woman. A “little white lie” on Valentines Day becomes a big problem. Derek has returned to help his ailing grandparents after being in the city for several years. His marriage had ended a few months ago and he was ready for a change. Some of the ladies in town come up with a crazy idea that they pretend to be together, just for a month. What can possibly go wrong, or will it be right? *I received this book for free for my unbiased review.
I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Great start to a new series by Jessie Gussman! Rather than being put down again, Rose Baldwin lies to her ex-husband and his new wife, and others at a Valentine Banquet about having a serious boyfriend. Derek Fields who just moved back to Sweetwater to run his grandparents farm agrees to fake date her until the Dating Game I which they’ll participate. Since she lost her job he hires her to assist his elderly grandparents. Themes of honesty, forgiveness, faith, and what it takes to build a relationship are addressed. I'd highly recommend reading this book.
Rose let the lie slip, knew she needed to admit to it, but had a hard time with it. Then she is fired from her job through no fault of her own. However, she runs into Derek and he offers her a job helping his grandparents while he tends to the farm. They were going to fake date but instead decided to date until after they participate in the Dating Game. There are a lot of life lessons in this sweet book. It was wonderful to return to Sweet Water, North Dakota! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
This is another great and inspirational beginning to a new series by Jessie Gussman. Derek had left the farm because his ex wife didn’t want to be married to a farmer. She then divorced him because she found someone else she would rather be with after ten years of marriage. Now he has returned home to help his aging grandparents. First on his agenda is to hire someone to be an aide to his grandmother. Rose has also been dumped by her ex husband for another. She becomes the aide for Derek’s grandparents after losing her job at the diner. Derek and Rose begin a fake relationship but will they be able to keep it fake when everything feels so real.
Interesting twist to a common trope. I sympathized with the h and cheered for the H in their quest for a real relationship in the town that they both loved. Each had been used and abandoned by their former spouses; each dodged a bullet that while painful spared them a lifetime of pain and allowed them to find their soulmate.
The h's ex-husband and his new wife were losers and their behaviors reinforced how fortunate the h was to be free of them. Her need to tell the ex the truth was something I would have found difficult until it dawned on my pea brain that it was for her not for them.
The H won in all categories and I loved how he proposed and the setting. Great ending.
Listened to this story on YouTube and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Derek and Rose as they came to terms with their previous separate martial heartaches while discovering the best may yet to be!
Enjoyed the spiritual discussions peppered throughout the book and were good for mediating on…especially waiting on God’s perfect timing…that applies to every part of our lives, not just relationships!
Farm animals feature strongly with the rough and tumble of farming thrown in along with the cute factor too! Lovely to revisit farm life for those who came from that background yet very educational for readers who haven’t experienced farming up close!
