I should’ve dnf’d. The pacing felt off, everything happened very fast, there was no build up, no character development. The MMCs had 2 interactions and by the 3rd she had already fallen for him (1 interaction he just walked her home from the bar as a stranger, the other he was giving her a ride and they ended up at his place where they had sex). It felt so random. There was much more telling than experiencing. We didn’t really experience them together much other than a spicy scene. There was zero chemistry.

This book seemed to be contemporary romance other than 2 very random bits of darkness thrown in there that didn’t really seem to fit the characters at all.

The mmc says: "I'm going to take you out back, and I'm going to slit your throat. I'll watch you bleed out on the cold pavement while I sip on a bottle of top-shelf whiskey, and then I'll pour it over your dying body and set fire to it. You'll burn in my version of Hell long before you get to yours."

To a guy who won’t stop touching the fmc the first time they meet. It was so random and I really should’ve DNF’d there. I’m a dark romance girly, it’s what I mostly read but it needs to fit to make sense and in this case it just didn’t.

During their spicy scene he has her go to the ice naked and cuts her with one of his blades on his skate, cuts himself and whatever. It was just so random. He could’ve easily done that in the locker room where they’d been originally having sex.

He fucks her with the taped handle of his hockey stick at one point and then uses it during his game the next day against her brother’s team. During the game the handle hits her brother IN THE FUCKING MOUTH 🤮 and the mmc asks the fmcs BROTHER how HER PUSSY TASTES 🤮🤮🤮🤮 if it were her ex I would’ve laughed my ass off but that’s her fucking brother, that’s disgusting. Then he tells HER BROTHER that he fucked her with the hockey stick the night before. WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU TELL HIM THAT?!?? The entire interaction gave me the ick and it was just gross.

The way the guys talk to/ about other women wasn’t great either. I actually ended up checking to see if the book was written by a man when Dukes teammates were talking to Olivia. 🥴

In conclusion this book wasn’t for me. If you’re looking for dark hockey romance definitely check out S Massery’s Hockey Gods series or CR Jane’s The Pucking Wrong Series.

I received this as an arc and I’m so glad I did I absolutely devoured this book anything Dana and Melissa write will always keep me hooked.

I absolutely love Duke and Aspen, thier chemistry is amazing I love that duke was always so protective of her and that he would drop anything for her and was willing to do anything.

Also chapter 21 Jaw. On. The. Floor the authors did warn you about it and I do suggest you buckle up.

If you like dark collage hockey romance, spice you will love this book!!!!

This is everything you expect it to be. It’s a dark college hockey romance. It’s a quick read. And the trigger warnings are there for a reason. I loved it. I loved Duke and Aspen. I loved how protective Duke was and how he was willing to let everything go for Aspen.
I loved the possessiveness of Duke and how Aspen wasn’t an innocent girl!

The authors tell you to buckle up for Chapter 21 and yea… buckle up indeed! 🔥🏒

This was fun and def recommend if you’re interested in a short, dark, and spicy read!

I was privileged enough to read this as part of the ARC team.

First, this is a college hockey dark romance. After the introduction of the main characters (which are the first two chapters) the book is impossible to put down. I read this in one sitting.

The obsessiveness the mmc showed towards the fmc made me love him and he even gave off “touch her and die” vibes. I did love how the fmc wasn’t a virgin and she had spunk to her too. And chapter 21….. my mouth was on the floor.

Overall, it was an easy, fun read and would recommend to my book lovers!

I was given the opportunity to arc read this and my god, I absolutely fell in love with this book and completely devoured it in one day, I did not want to put it down. I loved Duke and Aspen, the chemistry between them, the way Duke would do anything for her. Aspen was down to earth, sassy and knew what she wanted, and damn right that was our boy Duke <3
If you're looking for a quick smutty Hockey romance, with good plot I would definitely recommend this book, I will definitely be adding this to my top reads of this year.
And oh, chapter 21, you're in for a ride because the way my jaw dropped ;)

i knew i was going to love this when it was set in nyc and had stalker tendencies 🥰 but duke … i loved him the moment he met aspen and he was immediately attracted to her 🫠 he has such a dark side that i would’ve loved to see more of but when he showed his possessiveness over her … good lord was i down bad !! this man was ready to risk it all and i literally swooned so hard. i loved everything about aspen. this girl knows what she wants and doesn’t give a flying fuck. she’s always been steering clear of these hockey boys, but when duke shows up for her in times of need, she couldn’t help but fall hard. these two are so perfect for each other 🩶

Short, spicy and dark hockey romance. This was so good, packed with steamy scenes, fake relationship drama, hockey rivals, off limits girl and secret romance, protective and obsessed MMC, and some insta love.
Check your triggers on this one, but it's a fast paced spicy rollercoaster, and I loved Duke and Aspen together.

As soon as i started reading this i was hooked from the first Chapter! I loved Duke and Aspen! How much Duke would go for her was..my fucking heart.

Aspen was such a beautiful person, I love how i kinda felt i could connect with her, with how her brother was and how that is something I’ve been through before on how protective he is of her and how mine is with me.

Duke has become another one of my book boyfriends and I love how he was a captain, I have things at the moment for Hockey/Ice Hockey captains and I loved it!

Please everyone read this book it was perfect but please read the triggers before you read, as i know somethings aren’t for everyone! If you like quick reads this is for you!!

Also the spice in this was gahhhh Had me in all the feels 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Where do I even begin? I love me a hockey romance and when two of my favorite authors write a DARK hockey romance? I’m OBSESSED. I absolutely loved Aspen and Duke.

Duke is the captain of the Makos hockey team and falls for his rivals little sister. Aspen is in school to become a veterinarian but after a night at the bar, she falls for Duke with no question. The chemistry between these two was INSANE😍 and can we just talk about chapter 21!?!😮‍💨 This book was exactly what I needed to get me out of my reading slump, fast paced and SPICY, just the way I like it! I absolutely love Dana and Melissa’s writing, they just know what we want 😉 This is a DARK college hockey romance, so if you’re looking for a dark & spicy hockey romance, I highly recommend picking this one up!😍

This book was a quick, spicy read and I loved it!!

Duke and Aspen had some HOT sexual chemistry, her being the rival captains sister made it that much better.

Chapter 21 had my jaw hitting the floor, definitely the first time I’ve read about a hockey stick being used that way. 🙊

If you’re looking for a quick hockey romance read I definitely recommend this book. At just over 150 pages you can read it in one sitting. I loved the instant love at first sight attraction between Duke and Aspen. Also, loved how Duke did everything in his power to keep seeing Aspen while trying to not risk his future NHL career. But when he was threatened to choose it was like there was no choice it was always her and he know what he wanted. Chapter 21 definitely lives up to the hype and I’ll look at hockey a little different after that scene. But hey it helped his game. Lots of spice with some hockey thrown in so win-win for everyone.

I was able to read this as a ARC and I am so thankful. This book was AMAZING, it definitely drew me in and I couldn’t put it down. I LOVE that it was such a fast paced read but I am a little heart broken that it is a standalone. I would love to hear more about the Makos or even the Knights but such a nice ending.

This was my first dark romance and it was definitely a great start. It is giving possessive/obsessive MMC and FMC, college ice hockey, rivalry, betrayal, fake relationship (in a great way) and of course, dark romance. I love Duke and Aspen, the fact that he is willing to drop everything for her and that he was so protective over her 🥵

Definitely check for trigger warnings, especially for chapter 21 (if you are into dark romance, this will likely be up your alley).

I would recommend picking up this book if you are looking for a fast paced dark romance - especially if you are just starting out with dark romance! 🥵❤️‍🔥🏒

The hockey stick?! NO.
I cannot get over how unhygienic that is.

Plus the fact that they lie naked on the ice and it’s thrown in some blood play and it was just so random and weird.


The first time they meet the mmc goes off at another man touching the fmc and what he says to him here just doesn’t fit him and feels so out of place.

This is a super short story, insta love with them obsessed over each other after like 2 interactions. Their relationship was extremely shallow to me as well, and there is no character development at all.

Im telling you when these two authors join forces the results are PHENOMINAL. And I simply cannot get over it.

Follow along as Duke a young hockey star that has everything going for him has to play a game of what he wants most. Is it the hockey career of a lifetime or the love of his biggest rival's little sister. They say it's just a game but to Duke and Aspen its sooo much more than that.

Okay so Duke is freaking hot, but he's not the only thing that was throwing some heat because the spice on these pages...Hot Danm. It was so good. I mean Chapter 21, you weren't lying when you said I was going to love it.

And the plot. It gave boy obsessed, found family, heartbreak, teammate relationships, fake dating(but in a way you wouldn't expect), and a love so hard nothing else mattered. And I freaking loved every part of it.

It was fast and quick to get through, as well as addicting. Once I started, I couldn't stop turning the pages.

Im a big fan of the Makos. I mean with a roster like that, who wouldn't be. Consider me big sad this is a standalone and we won't be getting any more from the team, I defenitly could go for more Makos. Especially Stanley...wink, wink!!

Chapter 21 🥵🥵🥵🥵 oh my GODDESS that chapter, I was warned but it still exceeded my expectations.
I read this book over my extended lunch break, I COULD NOT put this book down. I absolutely devoured it and left not one crumb.
This is a dark hockey romance so please read all the triggers before reading!
I loved this book, so so much. I had the privilege to read this early, and I’ve already recommended it to multiple people! I was hooked the moment Duke and Aspen were introduced. Touch her and die vibes are STRONG with my new baby daddy Duke Lexington, and Aspen has this special kind of spunk to her!
Their chemistry is off the charts, you can feel the sexual attraction radiating off of the pages.
The only thing I would change about this book is the length, I need 400 pages of Duke and Aspen, 150 just wasn’t enough to scratch the itch I now have for them!

Everything about this was *perfect*. The story was well balanced, the writing really good, the characters are well developed and the story was really easy to get wrapped up in. ⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚

ೃ⁀➷ this story is short (158 pages) and I would really recommend to anyone that tends to like any spicy romance.

Overall, truthfully more of a 3.5 ⭐️

I was super excited for this book and am so grateful to have gotten to read an ARC of it. The reason this didn't get a higher rating from me was because it wasn't as dark as I was expecting. Oh yes, it was totally filled with all the spice 🌶 that I knew would be there and it was an attention holding story.

Unfortunately I personally didn't get absorbed into the story. I liked the characters well enough, Duke wasn't as intense but more honest and thoughtful with a big dash of dirty (that good kind of dirty 😉 ). I did like the hockey rivals aspect.

For a dip into a hockey romance full of spice and a dash of darkness, I do recommend this book!

This was a quick and spicy read and I loved every bit of it.

Aspen is the little sister of Dukes hockey rival and the only girl who’s off limits to him.
But when these two meet they find it hard to stay away from each other.

But Aspens brother doesn’t want her dating hockey players because of their reputation and Duke is in a fake relationship with his coach’s daughter.

But they agree to a season of secrets, time to sort out the complications in their lives. But of course things are never that easy.

Full of spicy moments especially chapter 21!

This was a really great book that had a good amount of plot for as tiny as it is. I really loved that you immediately got the rivalry between the teams and you got drama from the start. The authors said there wouldn't be any more but I want more 😭. The characters were too interesting for me not to want to know more!
The spice was there *there were some items that I never thought about in that way but definitely have me second guessing now* and I just really liked it. I think it was a perfect little morsel of a book.

I am a big fan of hockey romance and dark romance so I never pass on the opportunity to read a dark hockey romance !
I really enjoyed this book, it is fast paced and the spice is really great.
I loved the chemistry between the characters. I however feel like it was a little too insta-love but it didn’t prevent me from enjoying the book.
Please mind the trigger warning even if I expected a little more darkness but that’s on me !

I’m so torn with this review because there were parts of this book I loved, but the whole story felt so rushed. This book felt like a novella, but there needed to be so much more to it. Conflicts were solved within a page and then it was onto the next. Even their relationship felt rushed.

And honestly, some of the conflict resolution felt so unbelievable. For example, the OG woman drama basically disappeared without a fight and that wasn’t how her character was described.

BUT, I will say, Duke was a great morally grey MMC and the spice scenes had my mouth DROPPING. I think overall, I would have liked this more had the book been longer & not so rushed.

The only reason it took me a couple of days to finish my ARC was because I had to be a responsible adult.

But holy smokes...

I know this is a standalone but I'm going to be daydreaming about Duke and Austin for a while.

What's not to love about Duke? Protective, a gentleman... creative 👀

All I can say is I'll never look at hockey equipment the same way.

If you're looking for a quick read that is steamy enough to melt the ice, then you're gonna want to grab this book.
