When I ran from the church on my wedding day, I had one destination in mind…
Marcellus Falls—the same small town I swore I’d never return to.
As luck would have it, my big escape didn’t turn out as planned. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, I found myself without a job and a place to live.
Until the man I walked away from years ago offered a solution.
He was smug and bitter about the way we left things.
But he needed something from me, too.
Pretending to be in love shouldn’t have been hard, considering our history.
Except he knew how to push my buttons, and we both had a hard time keeping our hands to ourselves.
Every touch started to feel real.
Each kiss had me falling for him all over again.
It suddenly felt less fake.
At least…for me.
So, how was I supposed to convince him to give me a second chance when he kept reminding me at every turn that this was all just an act?
Grab this second chance, small-town, enemies-to-lovers, fake-dating, marriage of convenience steamy romance filled with tension, heat, and all the feels you can handle.

I devoured this book! I couldn’t put it down and wasn’t ready for it to end. The tropes came together seamlessly. There’s witty banter, a lovers-turned-enemies vibe, and a marriage of convenience that happened completely by accident. And, it all just worked!

The second-chance storyline brought tension and had me hooked. Brooks and Harlow’s deep love for each other never faded, and when she had nowhere to go after fleeing an “arranged” marriage, their forced proximity brought all the feels and slowburn goodness.

The small-town setting, the close-knit group of friends, and his amazing family gave the story so much heart. And BROOKS!! He brought the possessive, protective energy I love but in the best, good-guy way. The kind of guy everyone wants to be friends with… except Harlow’s ex and her father (don’t even get me started!).

Bring on Brooks’ brothers because I need more books in this series! His family felt like a warm hug, made me laugh with their antics, and left me wanting more. Especially the epilogue, it had me LAUGHING out loud with a side of second-hand embarrassment.

This was a sweet second chance romance that was a quick, easy read. I didn't really get the whole hard fought vibes that I like with second chances, but it was nice to have some closure and redemption for Brooks and Harlow.

Trust me when I tell you that nothing is as it appears here. Nothing. Brooks has his views on what went down. So does his best friend. And the entire family. But nobody knows why Harlow really broke Brooks’s heart years ago. I had an idea of what happened, but I found myself as surprised as everyone else when the entire truth came tumbling out.

This is an excellent start to a new series and reminds us that communication is key. Hearts don’t just forget. Some loves never die. And when it’s your first and only love deposited on your porch, you step up to help. While Brooks holds onto his anger for longer than necessary, he’s also clinging to that anger because his heart so desperately wants Harlow back for good. Lucky for him, she’s always been his.

I devoured this in one afternoon. That’s how invested I was in finding the truth. And I’m not even a little disappointed by what we found in the end!

Brooks & Harlow

A small town, second chance romance! Harlow runs away from her wedding and her controlling father right back to the town where she had her first everything with the only man she’s ever loved.

But of course it’s not the best reception upon landing in town. Then when left with nothing at all, reluctantly Brooks steps up and takes her in.

There’s tension and angst as these two fight their undeniable connection and devise a plan to keep her safe and they become fake engaged

You could tell from the very moment they were in each others orbit again their feelings had never gone away. The fire between them was sizzling
The small town element was beautiful and I loved all the side characters in the story

This story will have you hooked from the get go, a sweet romance about the one that always was!

Wish I Didn't Want You Back kicks off the start of the Marcellus Falls series by S. Jones and it's packed with drama, tension, so many feelings and so much more.

3.5 ⭐

When I say that Harlow and Brooks' second chance is filled with twists, turns, setbacks and more, I mean that you need to buckle up because it's a crazy ride! Not only is Harlow booking it from her very fancy wedding to a powerful man but she finds herself not only in the small town she chose to leave 5 years ago but staying with the one man that she had seen a future with before choosing to shatter both of their hearts.

Everything in this book feels like it's quick paced. The tension builds high and I swear it touches on so many different tropes. It's got runaway bride, love to hate to love again aka second chance, fake relationship(s), small town, protective hero with some splashes of danger and manipulation for good measures.

From a plot standpoint- I liked this book. It was well planned, I enjoyed the way that the layer of truth slowly unfurled through the story while still building the pieces of mystery, rebuilding trust and the intimacy between the MCs. I was easily able to sit down and read the book in it's entirety in one sitting because I was interested to see how it was all going to play out.

Now, you know how sometimes when you read a book you become so fully immersed with the characters that they become almost real to you? That's the connection I always seek out and unfortunately, I didn't ever really find myself truly connected to the characters here. I'm not sure if it was just how quickly things kept changing between Harlow and Brooks in the story, or if it was because it seemed like I was getting all those dramatic highs without the balance of just some normalcy with their relationship. I just felt a bit disconnected and a little ambivalent with the quick shifts in their status.

So overall, Harlow and Brooks' second chance was a solid book- just not my favorite of Sandy's. But I'm sure I'll be back for more of Marcellus Falls!

Drama with a capital D!!

This whole story is filled to the brim with so much drama.

BROOKS and HARLOW are getting their second chance at love. It’s not an easy road but in the end it was so worth it.

It was filled with so much love—more love than I ever imagined feeling. For the first time, I finally understood true happiness.

Against all odds and adversity the HEA is a beautiful thing!!

Harlow walked away from her wedding because it she wanted more for her life. She ends up back in the town where she fell in love with her ex Brooks. Is a second chance in the cards?

This was ok. Second chance romance and fake engagement mixed in. Nothing too interesting or unique. I did not really feel the chemistry. I wish we would have gotten some flashbacks or at least some stories about how Harlow and Brooks were before the breakup. Spice was fine-not much of it. I would say probably skip unless these are your favorite tropes.

I wasn’t ready for it to conclude and found it hard to stop reading. The clichés merged flawlessly. A marriage of convenience that occurred entirely by accident, witty exchanges, and a lovers-turned-foes dynamic are all evident. And everything simply functioned!

The storyline of second chances created suspense and kept me captivated. Brooks and Harlow’s profound affection for one another remained constant, and when she had no place to turn after escaping an “arranged” marriage, their enforced closeness ignited all the emotions and slow-burn charm.

The small-town backdrop, the tight circle of friends, and his wonderful family infused the narrative with deep emotion. And BROOKS!! He brought the caring, safeguarding vibe I appreciate but in the most positive, honorable manner. The type of guy that everyone wishes to befriend… except for Harlow’s ex and her dad (let's not even go there!).

Harlow is escaping a marriage that was never meant to be. She cannot truly spend her entire life enduring that mistake. With memories that feel so far away, her closest friend takes her back to the village. The place that always made her ponder "what if" was the site of her first and only romance. Her friend halts right in front of Brooks Dawson's "what if's" place, and he is displeased to spot her.

To say the least, Brooks is unhappy that his ex appeared at his doorstep. Although she is beautiful, he will not provide her the gratification she merits and seeks to understand what transpired and why she is in his house dressed in a wedding dress. He's setting boundaries because she abandoned him.

This serves as a reminder that communication is crucial and serves as an excellent start to a new series. Hearts are not merely forgetful. Certain affections last a lifetime. And you assist when your one and only love is waiting on your doorstep. Although Brooks holds onto his anger longer than necessary, he does it because he genuinely desires Harlow to come back for good. He is lucky because she has always belonged to him.

*Thank you to S. Jones for providing me with an ARC of this story. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

4⭐️/ 3🌶️

If you ever mention a story that has small town, it’s an immediate yes, and with the way S. Jones wrote this book it was sweet, spicy, and entertaining. I loved how this story ended up being fast paced, easy to read, and I liked the characters. I’m not sure if there’s going to be more books but if there is, I’m definitely down to read a book on Brooks’s brothers, Tuck and Hayes.

Anyways, before I got sidetracked haha I just wanted to say this was a book that was entertaining and I didn’t expect to actually like it this much. I mean, I knew this book was going to be a story I would enjoy but it hit even more than I initially anticipated. Harlow and Brooks’s story showed them getting a second chance at being together, but in a twist of events had them getting engaged in order to enter a…marriage of convenience! Not to mention that Harlow was a runaway bride which was intriguing.

I liked both Harlow and Brooks! As if those two weren’t perfect and meant to be together, I liked them individually as well. Brooks was a grumpy, hunky, hot man and I absolutely adored the way he was still VERY MUCH IN LOVE WITH HARLOW! There was even some little moments in which Brooks got jealous at seeing other men check out or flirt with Harlow haha. I also loved seeing how Harlow was just a sunshine that was subtle but also capable of being sassy and strong. Together, Harlow and Brooks’s were great and I’m happy to see the way their story played out. I would definitely give this book a read. In some ways, this book kind of reminds me of the vibe of Lucy Score’s small town romances since it had lovable characters, cozy atmosphere of the small town that made me feel relaxed and comfortable. All in all, good book and a fast read that kept me entertained and would recommend.

Harlow is running from a marriage that should never be. There's no way she could live with that mistake for the rest of her life. Her bestie takes her back to the town with memories that seemed so long ago. The place where her first and only love always made her wonder "what if"? When her friend stops, it's right in front of "what if's" place, Brooks Dawson, and he's not glad to see her.
Brooks isn't happy to say the least, about his ex showing up at his front door. He wants to know what happened, why she's in his house in a wedding dress and even though she's absolutely gorgeous, he won't give her the satisfaction. She walked out on him so he's setting boundaries.
When her beach house is flooded, Brooks offers to let her stay at his place with him. Why torture himself? He has no clue.Yes he does, he still loves her.
Harlow had to admit to herself why she ran. Because it was time to stop letting her father control her life and find out who she really was. It was time to start over, do what she want's. But, she would still do whatever it takes to protect Brooks. Again.
They both try to deny their feelings but it's no use. When she needs him, Brooks steps up to the plate and stands up to her father. Now, they have to go along with a fake engagement or she'll lose the only thing she has left. He has as much to gain from them being together as she does. Maybe the most valuable thing they have to gain is, , ,each other.
Now, if they can just get on the same page.
Second-chance romance with intimidation, bullying, low life tricks, doubts and even a laugh or two. But don't worry, it ends in a HEA that's a swooner.

ARC Review
Wish I Didn't Want You Back by S. Jones is a heartfelt small-town romance filled with second chances and swoon-worthy moments.

Harlow Bennett ran away on her wedding day and returned to the only place she ever felt safe: Marcellus Falls. But that safe haven also held the person she hurt the most—Brooks Dawson. Five years ago, she left him behind to follow her father's wishes, and coming back wasn’t going to be easy. Things quickly went off course, leaving her without a home or job. Surprisingly, Brooks took her in. Before they knew it, they were pretending to be engaged. But could they keep up the act without catching real feelings?

I loved this book! It’s a fantastic second-chance romance that blends several of my favorite tropes—enemies to lovers, fake dating, marriage of convenience, and a grumpy main character. The dual POV added depth, the plot was engaging, and the writing was smooth and enjoyable. The small-town vibe was so warm, and I loved how friendly and supportive the townspeople were. The banter between Harlow and Brooks was super entertaining, and the spice (especially from the midpoint onward) was seriously hot!

Among the side characters, the grandpa completely stole my heart. And Brooks? He was protective, caring, and sweet—even when still hurting from the past. The way he stood up for Harlow melted me. One of my favorite scenes was when she met his family for the first time—it was so emotional and real.

If you love cozy romances with a bit of heat and a whole lot of heart, this one’s for you!

Wish I Didn’t Want You Back by S. Jones

If you love small-town second chances with just the right mix of spice and heart, Wish I Didn’t Want You Back will absolutely hit the spot. This story follows Harlow and Brooks, former first loves torn apart by expectations, family duty, and the ache of choices made too young.

Harlow was raised to follow the rules, her father’s and her fiancé’s. But when her heart refuses to cooperate, she pulls a bold move and runs from her arranged marriage straight back to the only place she’s ever felt like herself, Marcella Falls. And right into the arms (and house) of the man she once left behind.

What follows is a slow-burn, emotionally charged journey full of forced proximity, fake dating tension, and the kind of chemistry that only years of unresolved feelings can bring. Brooks is the grumpy small-town hero we all secretly want, and Harlow? The perfect mix of vulnerable and brave.

The angst is just enough to hurt a little, in a good way, and the spice? Three chili peppers worth of tension, teasing, and toe-curling payoffs.

Perfect for readers who love: Rebuilding trust, swoony redemption arcs, and protective hometown heroes.

A heartfelt, steamy, and satisfying read that proves true love does wait… even if it takes a few wrong turns (and one runaway bride) to find its way back.

I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This first-in-series book is written in first person from an alternating dual POV, can be read as a standalone, and ends with a HEA.
Harlow decides at the last minute that she cannot marry the man chosen by her father and makes a run for it. When she returns to the small town of Marcellus Falls, NY, and the lakeside cabin her mother left her, she is thrown back into proximity with the man she left 5 years before.
I love Harlow really comes into her own in this story. I love how she finally finds the courage to see her father for the man his is and break away. She learns to stand on her own and realizes what she really wants out of her life. I love that Brooks is there to help and support her before he even realizes that he is doing it. His protective instincts toward Harlow are swoon-worthy. I adore that once they communicate with each other, secrets are revealed, truths are revealed, and their love is inevitable. Steamy times, tense plot moments, and powerful breaking free make this book one that is hard to put down. A beautiful second chance without a third act break up, it is a wonderful start to a new series.

I am seriously becoming a sucker for small town romances like this one. Wish I didn't want you back starts off with a runaway bride, immediately grabbing your attention and sucking you into the story. Her name is Harlow and she is running back to Marcellus Falls, a small town that she had never planned on returning to. This is where she is brought to Brooks, the man she left behind years ago. Brooks allows her to stay the night and due to unforeseen circumstances, one night turns into several weeks, which turns into a fake engagement, which turns into soooo much more. They have so much chemistry together but try so hard to fight their feelings so there's lots of tension between them. Harlow is a great character. She's so smart. We watched her go from being basically broken, homeless, and jobless at the beginning of the story to standing up to everyone and what she felt was right in her heart. I loved watching her character grow. Harlow and Brooks are a great couple together and the whole town and everyone around them saw that. They lost out almost 5 years because of people forcing her hand and neither one of them will stand for it any longer. This was a great story that I really enjoyed. If you like small town, second chance, forced proximity romances ,this is definitely one to check out!.

Did I stay up until 3 am reading this book?? Yes I did.
Was it worth it??
100% yes!

Wish I Didn’t Want You Back is an enemies to lovers, fake dating, marriage of convenience, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, second chance, runaway bride, small town romance between Harlow and Brooks.

I really related to Harlow. The way she’s taught herself to constantly control her emotions is something I do as well, and I would struggle just as much as she does to remind herself that her relationship with Brooks is supposed to be fake. I loved how the more she’s around Brooks, the more she feels safe enough to say what she thinks and stand up for herself, and readers will absolute love her.

I loved Brooks so much, and so will many readers. Even when he refuses to show it, he’s completely obsessed with Harlow in the best way. The more he opens up to her, the more that it’s clear that he would do absolutely anything for her. He turns into such a softie for her, and the banter between them is top-notch. I can easily see why Harlow falls for him, and readers will find it impossible not to do the same.

Thank you so much to @sjonesauthor and @theauthor.agency for this beautiful arc! I will definitely be reading more from S. Jones in the future.

I'm a little obsessed with my small town romances at the moment so of course I grabbed this, the first in the Marcellus Falls series.

I mean, just look how damn cute that front cover is!

I actually love that this isn't all pink and fluffy - the deep, dark colours really drew me in!

After fleeing her wedding, we follow Harlow back to the only place that ever felt like home - and back in the vicinity of her one true love.

I loved how this story unfolded and we discover the pain that both characters felt after what happened when Harlow left Brooks the first time.

So many misunderstandings and terrible communication really should be a lesson to us all!

I loved both our main characters right from the off - it was absolutely clear where this story was heading and their chemistry was jumping off the pages - but it took them a while to open up and communicate properly that this was really what they'd both wanted all along!

The setting was wonderful and I was totally immersed from start to finish!

I can see myself heading right on back to Marcellus Falls for the duration....especially as two of my favourite small town romance series' have just finished!

Perfect timing.

The community was lovely - once people came round to the idea of Harlow being back - and I can see so much potential for future storylines.

The writing style hooked me in and I just couldn't put this down, finishing it in only two sittings!

A great first read by this author and brilliant start to this new series.

I'm excited to see where book 2 will take us!

I just fell in love with this small town, second chance romance!! When you pick up a book, you just get a feeling, and I got all the feelings from this story. Sandra has this way with words that will keep you flipping the pages until the end. And then you go through that feeling of not wanting it to end. I love it when that happens!

Brooks and Harlow get a second chance at a once in a lifetime kinda love. She thought she was doing the right thing and he thought she had left him. But when the truths come out, both are trying to put the pieces back together.
Harlow runs from her wedding and goes to her only true friend that she has. Once back in the town that she left her heart, she comes face to face with the man that still holds it.
I loved these two together! You know they belong together, and the fire that still burns never died out. But things aren't always that easy. When reading, you keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. I love that feeling when reading a book!

I really hope we get more of this little town and the brothers of Brooks! I will already say they will be just as amazing!

When Harlow runs out on her wedding she runs right back to the town- and man- she left five years before. Brooks isn’t impressed to see her at first but he reluctantly gives her a place to stay and then makes her an offer- fake a relationship so they can both get what they want. Sounds easy until fake becomes real and the things Harlow was running from run after her. Will Brooks and Harlow realise this is for keeps and get their happily ever after? Or is past betrayal too much to move past?

I find second chance romances can be super cringey sometimes but that was absolutely not the case with this book! I don’t want to give too many details and ruin the plot (we know I hate spoilers!!) but I loved the way this story unfolded and how Brooks and Harlow navigated the present while dealing with the past. I need to read Finn and Molly’s book asap and definitely need to keep an eye out for the next one! Think I may have a new favourite series!!

Second chance romances aren’t always my favorite, but I did enjoy this one! You get grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, small town & fake dating alongside some great banter.

Harlow is a runaway bride, who borrows a phone from a stranger in a diner to call her bff, to come rescue her, literally still in her wedding dress. Her bestie rescues her, takes her back to her hometown, and then drops the bomb, she is going to have to stay the night at Brook’s house. Brook is conveniently the man she left 5 years ago, for the guy she just left at the altar… the drama!

I liked how while Brook’s family does rib on Harlow a bit, you can also see the love there. His parents & brothers do still have a fondness & express that for Harlow. I think sometimes writers make it too angsty, but I think S. Jones did a good job of balancing that. I liked how in the end, while Brooks does help Harlow, she also confronts and stands up to her dad. “You raised me to be strong. You just never expected me to turn that strength on you”

It was a quick read, I definitely recommend it and cant wait until the next to see how Hayes story turns out.

Thank you to S Jones for the ARC!

This is a sweet quick read that starts of this New series Marcellus Falls.

What to expect

💙Forced Proximity
💙Small Town Romance
💙Marriage of Congo
💙Runaway Bride
💙Fake Dating
💙Hate to love

Harlow is a runaway bride after her father tried to set her up for an arranged marriage. She finds herself back in a town she wasn't expecting.
Brooks is a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve and when the woman he once loved turns up on his door step years later he can't turn her away.

These characters have a connection between them and everything happens very fast. I did love the side characters too.
This story does feel a little predictable at times and I felt like I knew exactly what was going to happen next, this sometimes stops me from becoming completely immersed in the story. I think I would have loved more twists we wouldn't have seen coming.
I do love this authors writing style and the way she writes these small towns it makes me want to live there. I look forward to reading more in this series.

This book was so freaking amazing I’m absolutely in love with it! I’m super excited to continue this series… cannot wait!!

Harlow is a runaway bride and needs to go back to the last place she felt peace. The only problem everyone there hates her for leaving years ago minus her best friend. Her mother’s house end up being vandalized and inhabitable. Defeated with no where to go her best friend enlists Brooks, Harlows ex boyfriend to let her stay with him 😳 let’s just say things get tense and hostile! Brooks regrets his decision to let Harlow stay with him the minute he agrees to it. His construction business is on the cusp of greatness but he needs a wife to seal the deal and guess who he chooses?!? But someone is sabotaging their lives and they need to figure out who it is before irreparable damage is done.

This book has the perfect amount of tension. And the banter between the brothers is so hilarious! The small town vibes are immaculate, I absolutely crushed this book, LOVED it, cannot wait for the next brothers book 😏🤩🥳

I really wanted to give this one 4 stars, but unfortunately, I am giving it a 3. While the book was indeed nice, the MMC was overprotective, and there was no third-act breakup; there were just a few crucial things missing in the book. For one, I never got to understand the MCs and their personalities as individuals. I never really understood the extent of their past story together; the storyline was cliché and predictable. I also felt that the fallout of the past was made to seem too dramatic as compared to how it actually unfolded, especially given "how wrecked the MMC felt". I really thought something too big had happened, and even though it kind of did, I think that whole storyline was not handled strongly and brushed off a lot. The story lacked emotional connection and stronger reasoning and plotlines. If you are someone reading such tropes for the first time, it might give you an idea of how similar trope books would look like, although not to the emotional or deeper levels, and it might be a safe and cute read.

I didn’t plan on running from the altar—I just knew I couldn’t say I do. With nowhere else to go, I found myself back in Marcellus Falls, the one place I swore I’d never return to.

Things went from bad to worse fast. No job. No home. No plan.
Then he showed up—the man I left behind all those years ago. He wasn’t exactly thrilled to see me, and he definitely hadn’t forgotten how we ended. But he had a proposition. One that would fix both our problems.

Fake a relationship. Play pretend. Easy, right?

Not quite. Not when every glance turned heated, and every touch started to blur the lines. What was supposed to be fake started to feel all too real—at least to me. But how do you ask for a real second chance when he keeps reminding you this is all for show?

Dive into this steamy, second-chance, small-town romance packed with enemies-to-lovers tension, fake dating, a marriage of convenience, and enough angst, heat, and heart to leave you breathless.

A beautiful second chance romance!

She was a small-town girl thrust into city life for an arranged marriage orchestrated by her father. On her wedding day, standing at the altar, she realizes this life isn’t hers—and walks away from it all.
She runs back to the only place that ever felt like home.
He’s the boy she left behind—the one she loved deeply before everything changed. But after disappearing without a word five years ago, she’s the last person he wants to see. And the first person who can still break his heart.

With tension simmering and old wounds resurfacing, they strike a risky deal: a fake engagement to keep her safe. But faking forever is harder when their connection was never pretend to begin with. As secrets unravel and sparks reignite, they’ll have to decide if they’re willing to risk their hearts for a second chance.

If you love cozy romances with a touch of heat, a whole lot of heart, and second chances wrapped in small-town charm—you will want to read this one!

Just look at the tropes... how many of my boxes did this book check? Spoiler alert. A lot of them. Added bonus of runaway bride, which I'm really beginning to love when it's done well. And here? Oh, it's done well.

I adore Harlow and Brooks as they get their second chance at love. I went in expecting a romcom, and yes, there is some comedy yet there is so much depth to this book. So many emotions and feelings here, but still, S. Jones creates comedic relief with the banter between Brooks and Harlow. I suppose the best way to describe this book is layered. Between Harlow's meddling father (not a good meddling) and Brooks slowly letting Harlow back in, it's hard not to fall in love with this book.

When I tell you this book pulled me in from the very beginning, I mean it. I couldn’t wait to dive into it and continue reading. I devoured it. The banter between the two main character, Harlow and Brooks, was on fire. They had so much tension between them. The sarcasm flowed from them. They tease one another and push one another buttons to the limits. You can feel the tension between them. It’s almost their foreplay without them knowing it.

I laughed out loud more than I could count, I cried, and I cheer them on. I cannot recommend this book enough. I will be reading more of S. Jones. I highly recommend if you love:

S. Jones another new author for me. She has written. A sweet second chance romance. I really think a bit more Spice would have made it even better. I tell you the spark between Brooks and Harlow was undeniable.
Harlow is on the run from her arranged wedding to a cold ruthless man. Now she finds herself back in Marcellus Falls to stay in a her cabin and regroup her thoughts. Only problem her cabin was sabotaged and only place she had is back at her ex Brooks house, she left him 5 yrs ago a broken hearted man.
Brooks is cold and doesn't like Harlow. Despite trying not to, he still loves her deep down.
This was a journey of finding themselves again and discovering the truth about 5 yrs ago.
I loved how Harlow grew as a character and found strength to fight her father and ex. Also to fight for the man she never stopped loving.
Loved the Dawson family and the banter the brothers had.
This was a very enjoyable read and I'm excited for more in this series.
