When You’re Missing Me is a story aimed to help children who experience separation anxiety when their loved ones aren’t near. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings—there are a lot important relationships in a child’s life, all of which present unique situations where a child might find themself missing someone close to them.
There are many understandable scenarios that keep children away from the people they long days at school, busy work schedules, divorce, health complications, long overdue vacations, etc. This story will remind children that they are loved, no matter the distance or time between them and their loved ones.
This book also suggests tools to alleviate any separation anxiety a child may feel. Simple solutions such as holding a photo of them and their loved one close, or writing letters to the person they are missing. There are many ways to cope, and every child will respond uniquely to different techniques. Find a method that works for them, and encourage them to try it the next time you are apart.
And above all else, make sure they always know, that no matter the distance, they are always in your heart.
“When You’re Missing Me” was the first book I bought for my son at C2E2. My son is so attached that when he we leave for work or we drop him off at school he gets really upset. So when I ran across this book, I thought the message within it was perfect. Granted he is only 2 years old, but he actually sat down and paid attention. I was so impressed that I went back and bought the rest of her kids book. We now have read this book several times and he loves it. He also loves “Motion is Potion” which is the second book I have added to our rotation. Next week I will add “Beyond the Beehive”.
So far I love the messages of all the books she has written.
